    Very Nice! I especially love the effect the black epoxy gave to the top grain of the wood! I’m going to try the same finish with quarter sawn white oak, but with Rubio black.

      Tanks Henry. I have worked with Black Rubio in the past. Make sure to order a small bottle and try it out first on a scrap piece. It will stain your oak pretty dark, much darker than on this project. What you can also do is to apply the black Rubio, then sand the wood lightly with 240 grit to remove some of that black, and apply a "Pure" layer, that way you can lighten it up...

      Thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely keep it in mind when I’m putting it together. 😁

    Fabulous project -thanks! It’s exactly what I am doing now but I don’t have a belt sander. what size orbital sander would you recommend? Table is 2.6m x 1m.

      Thanks Jenny, I am happy to hear that this is helpful to you 👊🏼 I have put together a list of low budget sanders for another project, which you can find here: docs.google.com/document/d/1OqcxlS7rJNbSmtKQ58L9rgkJ1WTKvEgEzW8pA8zeD24/edit

    Why did you use linseed oil on the botton instead of Rubio Monocoat?

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  3 роки тому

      Hi James. I use linseed oil on the bottom side because it’s much cheaper and much easier/faster to apply. Because both Rubio and linseed are oil based, there is no risk of warping due to different coating, so I always opt for that combination.

    That came out awesome! I really like the choice of black epoxy against that wood color 🙌

      Thank you so much for your kind words, Jonathan. I also like the nice contrast between oak and black epoxy :D

    Looks awesome! thinking of doing it myself, but i have 2 questions. 1. how long did you let the epoxy harden before you sanded it the first time? Was it a full harden (e.a. 24 hours at room temp)? and 2. why the linseed oil on the bottom?

      Thanks 😊 1) I let it dry for a week, but it depends on the kind of epoxy you use on how long you have to wait. I recommend to wait longer than the instructions state, to prevent the epoxy to shrink after sanding. 2) I use linseed in the bottom because it’s much cheaper than Rubio Monocoat and it cures faster. Have fun!

      Is that like a 12' belt sander? I am literally doing this same thing right now, filing a bunch of cracks in a table I made with epoxy for an accent look. Not sure how my orbital sander will perform.

    • @Woodensoul
      @Woodensoul  3 роки тому

      @@chrimarsh1480 The belt sander uses a sanding paper that is 315 inch long and 6 inch wide. Your orbital sander should do fine - I have sanded large amounts of epoxy with orbital sanders too. Take 40 grit paper and wear a mask and be patient. And have fun!
