A buddy and I were lost trying to find our group with a head full of acid. I saw some random guy hitting a bowl, and walked up to him to ask if he could help us out. He called our friends and pointed us in the right direction. Everybody who was there in that moment in time has a story to tell.

Tom Petty was such an amazing, talented musician! I don't know what it is about this particular performance of Tom singing "Learning To Fly," but the tears flowthe most whenever I watch this video from Bonaroo! Tom sings this poignant song so beautifully always! But there's something special about this performance. For me, it's partly because that large outdoor crowd is silent, hanging onto his every word, and witnessing his brilliant light. And as the song comes to the end, the tears really flow because, I know that none of us will ever witness that man and his stirring voice LiVE again! :-( So thankful for this video, and all the videos that exist for all of us to feel Tom's spirit through his music. We miss you and love you Tom. ♡

If I had to pick my personal Mount Rushmore of great American songwriters, it would be, (in no particular order), Chuck Berry, Smoky Robinson, Bob Dylan and, my absolute favorite, Tom Petty. I have listened to his music, dissected his songwriting and admired him as a person my entire life. He wrote and sang songs about real people, real life and situations that we can all relate to, while never losing his wide eyed wonder at the joy of making a living playing in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Your contribution to my life is immeasurable and I will miss you for the rest of my days. Rest In Peace, Mr. Petty as you fly up over your troubles and over your worries and thank you for everything.

His Passing has hit me harder than ever ! Last Friday would have been his 67th Birthday ! I count myself as very fortunate to have seen him 3 times ! The last time was in July in Hyde Park ! I had tickets to see U2 on the same day , but as soon as I knew Tom & Stevie were coming I sold the U2 tickets ! To be honest it was Stevie I wanted to see as I had never seen her solo ! But to see them on the same bill was incredible ! Since his death I have been on here watching his Concerts Videos & interviews . I expect he will now be Knocking on Heavens Door with some of his friends like George Harrison & Roy Orbison ! RIP Tom !

This song, and specifically this version from Bonnaroo live, became my anthem in 2016-17 when I was walking through the dark days of cancer. Still raw emotion to this day when I hear it. Beautiful, epic, and when the crowd begins, it sounds like a chorus of angels. Saw Tom at his final concert at Red Rocks May 30, 2017, and after all I had been through, when he played this song and the crowd chimed in, I cried my eyes out with gratitude. Tom was gone just 4 months later. RIP TP, and I know you finally learned the true meaning of learning to fly ❤

The last show was in Montreal at the Belle Center. Even for the Frenchies, every opening guitar bars of each songs would bring the crowd to its feet roaring. The entire crowd sang the refrains from "Free Falling" and "Learning to Fly" with Tom telling everybody, such do a fantastic job. Do not miss this band if they are coming near to your town or city.

God, I miss him so much. Been listening to him ever since I was 4 years old. This is one of the most heartfelt performances I've ever watched. He brought so much great music to the world, rest in peace, Mr. Tom Petty.

Brilliant rendition. He got the audience to sing as he did counterpoint!

I fist became aware of Tom, about 30 years ago. At the time my favourite band of all time Electric light Orchestra, were on a hiatus. in those days of course, there was no internet. I was trying to find out what my hero Jeff Lynne was up to, looking out for any new music and anything, he was involved in. That's when i came across Tom's music, as Jeff had produced. Full Moon Fever. I still to this day love that album and play it at least once a week. The follow up Into the great Wide Open, which this song is from, is also wonderful. Tom's ability to tell a story within a song is amazing. He is a legend. We really miss you Tom. Still love Tom, Jeff, ELO, The Wilbury's everything.

Lost him 4 years ago today. Still haven’t recovered. In one desperate moment there, he crept back in our memory.

When I watch a performance like this I never understand why people spend thosands on pop stars and all their wardrobe non-sense.
As a metal guy pyro and light shows add to the experience but bands like Tom and The Heartbreakers know, knew it's ultimately about the music. And the emotion behind it is what connects with us the fans.
    A lost art!
Here's to Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and music.
Glory to GOD for the gift of music too!

omg... I didn't know he was getting on in years. I should see him next time he swings through. I'll probably regret it if I didn't. That audience participation and him singing over it is beyond incredible.

I just listened to this 5 times on the way home from work off a CD I have and now another 5 or 10 times on here. Almost gets better every time. I rolled the windows down in the car to share it with the world.
