It's so sad to see she hasn't got married until now while missing her ex lover and daughter. She was already devastated to part with her ex lover and later on had to send her daughter away without knowing what's the future would be. She's so loyal but we can imagine how lonely she was. I'm crying.
It can be also that she didn't remarry for other reasons, mayb sh didn't meet anyone that she fell in love with or maybe she was married at some point. I don't think she talkedabout it?
I think that is a testament to how sincere she is regarding the love she had towards her daughter and guilt she felt for having to separate. Mainly vietnamese used American men when it suited them for status during the war and when the war ended they ditched the children (some even abandoned them on the street) because they were concerned about the stigma of having a mixed American child and so they could find a spouse and start new family. This woman is exception although no longer with the american she truly loved her daughter and seperated solely to give her baby a better life and tried to keep as much contact to find her even when she was an infant (this is how you know she is sincere).
Beautiful story... sad that Mother felt she had to let her go, then suffered for 44 years wondering what happened to her. She was stunningly beautiful... and still a beautiful lady. I'm so happy they found each other!
She didn’t feel like she had to let her baby go. She absolutely knew she had to for the sake of her baby. It was the same in Korea during that war. Mix raced babies caught hell. They would have had a horrible life.

She was heartbroken and then scared after finding out she was pregnant. She cried to my grandmother who told her to “get it together. I will help you raise the baby and if you don’t want to raise it I will!” Well my aunt did get it together and my cousin is one of the best people I know. I have really cried over this three story. it was beautiful to see that mother and daughter were reunited after 45 years. I wish these two women the best things and long life forever together. God Bless you!!...... Francesco from ITALY.
My cousin is in a similar situation. His mother met his dad during Vietnam War in 1975. When I was very little, I overheard the conversation that his mother had made an effort to find his dad in the U.S. so that the dad and son can reconnect but no prevail. With advanced technology, I believe it’s much easier to search now a day. Her son has been in the US for 40+ years. Sometimes I wonder if he ever had the curiosity to search for his other side of family in the US.
This story is unfortunate, but it is significant for reuniting the daughter and mother. I came to the US with my half-Vietnamese and American sister. When I was in the Philippines, we gave the US embassy my half-sister's father's dog tag; the US embassy was able to locate my half-sister's father in America. He is still alive but won't accept my sister as a daughter because he has a good family in America. He even wrote a letter to us and said, "Thank you" for caring for my daughter, but I guess because of his second wife and family. He rejected my sister, and she cried a lot. Unlike this story, she found her mother, and I am very happy for them. I understand the mother's story; I hope the daughter will forgive her. I grew up in Vietnam, and the majority of mixed kids would be punished either by the Vietnamese government or become the children of the dust.
My families left Vietnam in 1975 also. Unfortunately my grandmother didn't want to leave with us. She pass away with a broken heart. I'm so glad mother and daughter able to finally reunited.
May I ask the reason why your families decided to leave Vietnam? heard that many left in 1975, even though they didn’t sure about the chance of survival.
My dad works for the U.S. embassy . The government mentioned that if we stay, we will probably end of Dead. Dad thought that would be best if we left. Unfortunately, my parents struggle to start all over again in the United States. Now, both of them pass away. I always wonder what our life would've been like if we did stay.
I am Amerasian, and my father was on the last helicopter that left the roof top of the US Embassy. My mom was 2 months pregnant with me during the Fall of Saigon, so I consider myself the last of the war babies from VN.
