The guitarist Brad Gillis played on Ozzy Osbourne’s “Speak of the Devil” tour and live album.. absolutely killed it! Amazing guitarist and band, very under rated.
Jack Blades is a great songwriter. He's written songs for other artists and has been in other bands when he left Night Ranger for awhile. He was in Damn Yankees, then he and Tommy Shaw formed Shaw-Blades and before going back to Night Ranger, Jack was in the 3 man band Revolution Saints with former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo and former Whitesnake (and a few other bands) guitarist Doug Aldrich
This reaction brightened up my day as Night Ranger was one of my favorite eighties hard rock bands and I have a lot of great memories to go along with this band. Night Ranger is so high energy and they totally bring their 100% when they perform. They made it big with their song “Sister Christian” and entered on to the rock scene with “Sing me Away” and of course “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me”. Please check out the official video “You Can Still Rock in America” which was their follow up song from their most popular and follow up album “Midnight Madness “.
Singer, bassist Jack Blades also plays bass in Revolution Saints, which features Deen Castronovo on vocals, drums (Journey, Bad English, The Dead Daisies, Hardline, Ozzy, Cacophony, Paul Rodgers, GZR, Fear Factory, Hole), and Doug Aldrich on guitar (Whitesnake, Dio, The Dead Daisies, House Of Lords, Hurricane, Lion, Bad Moon Rising, Burning Rain).
Got here a little late but I am glad I found you, your reaction was awesome! I am a 53 year old man who grew up in the 80's and I loved some Night Ranger. Thank you, it was great.
This band had a huge problem with their record company tellingl them to only release ballads, after " sister Christian" was so big. I blame MCA for inadvertently killing their career in 89. Most of their stuff was pretty rockin, but the record company didn't want to face that reality. This made the rock fans feel slagged, and made Night Ranger a band that ladies liked for the ballads. They got back together not too long after their breakup, and are still rockin to this day. Brand new album last year. My favorite is the 2017 album " don't let up". They haven't listened to record company demands since the 80s lol
Night Ranger is one of the best live bands I’ve seen. Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson are the all time beat guitar duo in my opinion. 2 distinctive styles that you can tell who is playing a solo without having to see them. Band is still releasing new records and touring today. Another great song by them Eddie’s Coming Out Tonight - live from Japan. Amazing guitar work on that one
Night Ranger nails it every time. These guys have been around since the late 70s and are still Rockin. In 2022. I still remember meeting Brad Gillies at Steamboat days in Burlington ,Ia. We talked about when he finished the Speak of the Devil 😈 tour with OZZY. The whole band kicks ass. Peace ☮️ Out
Saw them multiple times 1st time in 83. They are touring again and I'm taking my 35 year old daughter to get a taste of the 89s as they open for Joan Jet in Durant Oklahoma August 12th. So excited to show her why the 80s rock scene was so energetic!
Night Ranger puts on an AWESOME live show! For a banger try "Touch Of Madness." For mainstream rock listen to "When You Close Your Eyes." For another softer, sentimental vibe go with "Goodbye."
" Four in the morning " is a great song by Night Ranger. Yeah they were well known, and very popular. Alot of metalheads thought they were soft, and never felt they were metal, but they never were metal, but rocked like it. I think they are amazing.
Saw them in concert two years ago. Still sound good. Couple different members but still good. Enjoyed it. Definitely underrated band from the 80s. I personally like Touch of Madness. The intro is cool
Night Ranger put on some of the best live shows ever. Not stadium size shows like say U2 and others but anybody who saw them KNOWS their live shows were energetic, full of power and great musicianship. Jeff Watson and Brad Gillis are severely UNDERRATED guitarists from this time period. Their hooks TORE IT UP!!! Long live THE RANGER!!!
I was 10 when MTV showed it. It's the 1st live performance I've seen by a hand (although not in oerson). This band and concert were very instrumental in my musical direction and love for live music.
This is from their "7 Wishes" tour in 1985. I saw the show in Lincoln, NE and it was one of the BEST shows I've ever seen! You were so right when you said they are underrated! This was at the end of the show, right before the encore. Have loved them since 1982 when this song first came out and I still follow them with their new material that came out within the last 2 years. Still touring like this harder than ever! They are still playing, they took a "break" in '89 and did some of their own stuff, but they did get back together with a minor lineup change and are still kicking it to this day.
1985, Hot August day in Dallas, TEXXAS, didn't make it to see the first three acts, (bon jokey, who cares) got there in time for The Motor City Mad Man, then Night Ranger took the stage followed by The Scorpions and Headlining the show was Deep Purple. 1985 TEXXAS JAM, just me and 100,000 of my closest friends. What a frigging great day!
Night Ranger still to this day is Rocking America!!!!and they are almost 70 I'm going to see them here in Atlanta in August....check out Rock in America
Hey T........Night Ranger has been back together for many years now. They are still touring and recording new music. I saw them about 6 years ago and they still rock!!
Night Ranger singer, bassist Jack Blades and guitarist Brad Gillis both played in Rubicon before Night Ranger. Blades also played in Shaw Blades with Styx singer, guitarist Tommy Shaw, and played in Damn Yankees with Styx singer, guitarist Tommy Shaw, Ted Nugent, and drummer Michael Cartellone of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shaw Blades, Accept, Joe Lynn Turner. Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis also played with Ozzy replacing Randy Rhoads when he died. He was offered the guitar job but formed Night Ranger instead. Night Ranger singer, drummer Kelly Keaggy also played in The Mob (singer Dug Pinnick of King's X, KXM; guitarist Reb Beach of Winger, Dokken, Whitesnake; bassist Kip Winger of Winger, Alice Cooper; keyboardist Timothy Drury of Whitesnake). Night Ranger guitarist Jeff Watson also played with Mother's Army (singer Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, Deep Purple, Hughes Turner Project/HTP, Sunstorm; bassist Bob Daisley of Rainbow, Ozzy, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Living Loud; drummer Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Rod Stewart, Ozzy, Blue Murder, Beck Bogert & Appice, King Kobra, Ted Nugent; and drummer Aynsley Dunbar of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Frank Zappa, Sammy Hagar, Whitesnake, David Bowie, Ian Hunter, Journey, Jefferson Starship, Ronnie Montrose, Michael Schenker, UFO, Jake E Lee, Pat Travers).
It was very weird watching it for the first time. Was so sure at times that it wasn't _fully_ Live, and other times that I was sure it definitely was. I'm still freaked out about that.
Saw these guys 4 times in the 80's...always a great show!!! They did get back together and recorded new music on a regular basis and still tour to this day! Just released a new album not so long ago
They broke up in '89, but reformed years later, around '99-ish and I think are still going. This was my favorite band in the mid 80's before i got into metal. I recorded this concert off MTV and watched it almost every day for a while. The shirtless guitarist Brad Gillis played with Ozzy briefly before Night Ranger formed. He replaced Randy on the Diary of a madman tour in '82. There is a concert video with him on guitar.
Nice reaction, Brad Gillis played with Ozzy Osbourne for awhile, Jack Blades played with the Damn Yankees along with Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw. They had lots of great hits, I have seen them 3 times always a great performance. Rock in America, Rumours in the Air, Sentimental Street, Sister Christian and more.
T, I'm glad you liked it. I knew you would. Their biggest hit was the ballad Sister Christian, sung by drummer Kelly Keaggy. Great song but overplayed. Any Night Ranger reaction you see is usually for that song.
Solid hard rock. I recall this getting some fair amount of radio play at the time, though early 80s metalheads never really gave them a fair shake due to the use of keyboards in most of their songs. Doesn't deny the awesome talent.
So my funny Night Ranger story is they were my second concert I ever seen and they had the Outfield opening for them. After the concert on the way back my buddies and I pulled into McDonald's to grab a bite to eat. When we pulled in there were two girls that had a flat tire my buddy step brother change the tire my other buddy said on the hood of his car while I was talking to the girls good times man good times
They broke up in 89 because the record label wanted them to only release ballads as singles. Breaking up was the only way out of their contract. Bassist Jack Blades immediately when to join Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw to form Damn Yankees. Night Ranger reformed with the original members in 1996/7, and have been releasing new music since then. Two member left, but always replaced with top tier talent. I've seen them almost 30 times since 1981 (when they were called "Ranger"). Was able to get to two shows this year. Their latest album came out last year: ATBPO (And The Band Played On) sort of a tribute to making music while enduring the pandemic - ua-cam.com/video/Szs1Yi6gKb8/v-deo.html The knock on the band in the 80s was two fold - albums could never capture the energy of their live shows, and once they went big with "Sister Christian" the record company only wanted ballards.
Night Ranger released Feeding Off The Mojo without Jack Blades, Jeff Watson or Alan Fitzgerald in 1995, just as a 3 piece of Gillis and Keagy with Gary Moon on bass. Neverland and Seven was original line-up. Hole In The Sun was original line-up except that Great White keyboardist Michael Lardie replaced Alan Fitzgerald on keys. Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, Michael Sweet, Hoekstra's 13, Amy Lee, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) played guitar on Somewhere In California and High Road with Blades, Keagy, Gillis. Keri Kelli (Saints Of The Underground) played guitar on Don't Let Up and ATBPO (2021). Eric Levy has played keyboards on Somewhere In California, High Road, Don't Let Up and ATBPO.
Jack Blades also plays bass in Revolution Saints, which features Deen Castronovo on vocals, drums (Journey, Bad English, The Dead Daisies, Hardline, Ozzy, Cacophony, Paul Rodgers, GZR, Fear Factory, Hole), and Doug Aldrich on guitar (Whitesnake, Dio, The Dead Daisies, House Of Lords, Hurricane, Lion, Bad Moon Rising, Burning Rain).
My very first concert was Day On The Green at the Oakland Coliseum in July 1983. The headliner was Journey with Triumph, Eddie Money, Bryan Adams and Night Ranger. Night Ranger was the opener, so they were the very first band I saw on stage, ever! Unfortunately, they had some mic problems that day so they didn’t sound great, but their energy was just like this video. Great show. By the way, I’m in a small percentage of people that think Jeff Watson is a better guitar player than Brad Gillis.
Saw these guys in their prime and was fortunate to meet Jack Blades- they rocked so hard and Jack couldn't have been nicer. Teenage years in the 80s were rad, man! Try Four in the Morning for one; they have several great tunes.
40 years! 🎂 Great rocking song! 🤘🎸 Being a San Francisco native, I remember the bands these musicians were in before Night Ranger was born. Kelly Keagy, drums + lead vocals, Alan Fitzgerald, bass + keyboards, guitarist Jeff Watson and lead guitarist Brad Gillis were in Alameda All-stars with the late Gregg Allman. The 4 quit. Keagy and Gillis joined Jack Blades, bass + lead vocals, in Rubicon. Alan Fitzgerald was in Montrose. The other notable members are Denny Carmassi (born in San Francisco), drums, and Sammy Hagar, lead vocals. Hagar left to go solo. Carmassi left to join Heart, replacing Michael Derosier, who quit. Randy Rhodes died in the same year this song was released. RIP. Ozzy Osbourne hired Brad Gillis. He stayed for 1 year. He quit to form Night Ranger with Firzgerald, Blades, Keagy and Watson. UPDATE. Night Ranger reunited in 1995. Same members. Alan Fitzgerald retired. Night Ranger fired Jeff Watson . 2 other musicians replaced them. Night Ranger continues to perform today! 😃 Suggested songs: 1 Sister Christian 2 Sing Me Away. 3 Secret of My Success (theme from the movie of the same name, released 35 years ago! 🎂) 4 Four in the Morning ⏲☀
Alan Fitzgerald also played on some Sammy Hagar solo albums as did Denny Carmassi before joining Night Ranger or Heart. Night Ranger released Feeding Off The Mojo without Jack Blades, Jeff Watson or Alan Fitzgerald, just as a 3 piece of Gillis and Keagy with Gary Moon on bass.
Gotta love this tune. Check out the new album from Riot City. Album of the year material...the vocals are Halford/Tate god-like. Paris Nights is a good listen.
Night Ranger is very underrated…T, you would like “You can still rock in America”….I have seen night Ranger a few times in concert and they always put on a great show. Brad Gillis, the lead guitar player, used to play with Ozzy and he rocks !!
I remember NR at their outset, when no one told them they loved them, and they were still rockin' in America. And then came the great softening and the release of Sister Christian, When You Close Your Eyes, and other middle-of-the-mainstream-bell-curve power ballads. And it was at that moment, experiencing Midnight Madness, that I looked back on Dawn Patrol and thought, "Damn! I miss original Night Ranger!" And I still do.
Saw ‘em live in 1984 on the campus of Central Michigan University and they blew the roof of that place. And during the 80s yes they were big time. The had a a duo of some of teh best guitarists on the planet.
Me and my lead guitarist Jay would sing this randomly to each other at practices on Sunday’s, he moved to Florida so the band is on hiatus but we have 4 songs professionally recorded to be released soon… man I miss the jam days T ❤🔥
One of my all-time favorites. Me and the buddies used to jam to these guys. They were absolutely everywhere in the early 80's around here. First two albums were off the chain. And yes they are now criminally underrated. Seen them in the late 80's without Jack Blades. Excellent performance, but sadly just not the same. Still, worth it. 'Touch of Madness',' (You Can Still) Rock In America', 'When You Close Your Eyes', and 'Sing Me Away' were my favorites. Lead singer Jack Blades was also in Damn Yankees with Tommy Shaw of Styx and Ted Nugent. Check out 'Come Again'.
The guitarist Brad Gillis played on Ozzy Osbourne’s “Speak of the Devil” tour and live album.. absolutely killed it! Amazing guitarist and band, very under rated.
Yes sir. He is very underrated that live album with Ozzy is freaking bad ass.
He had to try to fill Randy's shoes, with very little time, and he crushed it.
Yep saw that Ozzy tour in Portland that year and Night Ranger at Va Beach ampitheatre in '99 Both kick ass shows
Check out Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson at the NAMM Show 1986. 😎
This was my very first concert back in in 81-82 I was just 12 years old, they opened for KISS.. I was hooked ever since!!!😎🤘
More NIGHT RANGER!!!
@@maryellenazack4466 Absolutely!!!
Don't tell me you love me!!! 🤘
@deborahevans2398 You can still Rock in America!! 🤘😎... They're Just a Fun Band!!
My first live band also... Saw them open for a Pre-VanHagar Sammy @ the Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1982!
This reaction brightened up my day as Night Ranger was one of my favorite eighties hard rock bands and I have a lot of great memories to go along with this band. Night Ranger is so high energy and they totally bring their 100% when they perform. Dawn Patrol First night ranger album and yes I had it on cassette i've been into them since they started
Damn! Thanks for the trip back to 1983. I saw this tour, and these guys are still rocking in America. Glad you dug it.👍Cheers, my man.
Night Ranger = criminally underrated
Both Brad and Jeff are extremely underated. And with voices like Jack and Kerry they were badass
This song Rocks!!! My favorite song by them 👍
This band had a huge problem with their record company tellingl them to only release ballads, after " sister Christian" was so big. I blame MCA for inadvertently killing their career in 89. They haven't listened to record company demands since the 80s lol
I think Dawn Patrol is my favorite album of theirs. I have every studio album, an acoustic album, a live album.
I saw them last year and they're still awesome
Disagree about them being the greatest dual guitarist combo, but do love Eddie's Comin' Out Tonight.
I do love them! They came to Japan in October for concert. And they still rock. Their song "Night Ranger" is also good song!!
Night ranger is still playing and putting on a hell of a show
This was a great song to have blasting on your Walkman while snow skiing!
Dude playing that bass like he's a lead guitarist!!
This is crazy man... love it!

Peace ☮️ Out
I seen em later 80's and their whole show was like this!🤘🤘😎😎
Saw them multiple times 1st time in 83.

One of the best live bands ever . Choked full of super talented musicians
Night Ranger puts on an AWESOME live show!
For a banger try "Touch Of Madness."
For mainstream rock listen to "When You Close Your Eyes."
For another softer, sentimental vibe go with "Goodbye."
Those are my top 3
Night Ranger is still sounding great and very entertaining. Saw them in 2022 and can't wait to see them again! Entire band is so talented.🎉
Yeah, Jack Blades started out as a Night Ranger...
.
.
.
... but he turned out to be just another Damn Yankee.
You Can Still Rock In America & Eddie's Coming Out Tonight are two excellent jams!
Theyre still together, still touring and still making albums
Broke up, but got back together & toured a bunch into the 2000’s. Seen them 3 times, once in ‘85, twice in the 2000’s. AMAZING shows.
Saw them in I think 1982/83... outstanding performance!!!!
Probably one of the greatest guitars solos ever...
Jack Blades the bass player and lead singer also was a member of Dam Yankees you have reacted to before which formed in 1990!!
That 7 Wishes DVD is one of the best live concerts ever
I was 10 when MTV showed it. It's the 1st live performance I've seen by a hand (although not in oerson). This band and concert were very instrumental in my musical direction and love for live music.
They come to Cleveland and do shows at least once a year for a beloved person who passed in an accident. They're very much loved and appreciated
Thanks for covering this. Yes this is one of the most underrated bands ever along with Toto. Absolutely loved them in concert. Saw them twice.

"Just another" killer concert in the 80s. Some of the best musicians. Freaking killer band right there!!
Hey T........Night Ranger has been back together for many years now. They are still touring and recording new music. I saw them about 6 years ago and they still rock!!
And they still give that same performance energy today!
Night Ranger was a great band! Another reason the 80s were the best decade for Rock.(IMO) This brought back some great memories.
"You Can Still Rock in America" is my favorite of theirs.
Darn Right Gritty!!!! Blessed To See Them A Few Times at Their Majestic Height!!
Night Ranger singer, bassist Jack Blades and guitarist Brad Gillis both played in Rubicon before Night Ranger. Had never heard them live, I'm surprised how good they sound
It was very weird watching it for the first time. Was so sure at times that it wasn't _fully_ Live, and other times that I was sure it definitely was. I'm still freaked out about that.
They are still great live!
Wow, underrated? This song is awesome! Great licks on the guitar, great percussion!
Saw these guys 4 times in the 80's...always a great show!!! They did get back together and recorded new music on a regular basis and still tour to this day! Just released a new album not so long ago
Have you EVER seen a Bass player with so much energy??!!😂♥️Lead singer Jack Blades!
And that is what you call A Show!
They broke up in '89, but reformed years later, around '99-ish and I think are still going.
This was my favorite band in the mid 80's before i got into metal. I recorded this concert off MTV and watched it almost every day for a while.

I got the chance to see them in concert in the 80's, and they put on a hell of a show. The energy of the band, and crowd, was fantastic.
Yes, they are very underrated. This is my favorite NR song. That guitar solo is amazing, I love it!
Nice reaction, Brad Gillis played with Ozzy Osbourne for awhile, Jack Blades played with the Damn Yankees along with Ted Nugent and Tommy Shaw. They had lots of great hits, I have seen them 3 times always a great performance. Rock in America, Rumours in the Air, Sentimental Street, Sister Christian and more.
they played in the opening of Top Gun.💚

The solo section by Gillis and Watson is one of the best I have ever heard.
"Midnight Madness"!
Saw them not long after the debut album came out, small venue, 1,000-1,500 people. Tremendous energy, really fun show.
Great band live. Saw them twice at the time. Unique stage setup. Drums on one side Keyboards on the other. Lotta good songs. Big on MTV.
One of the best hard rock bands ever!!!
Check out, You still rock in America, Sing me away, 2 good bangers.
I saw them on the "7 Wishes" tour in Detroit... one of the best live bands ever!
🤘🤘🤘
They’re on tour right now. Two more shows in the US then off to Japan.

Teen age years great in the 70's to. I was there!!
@@markhaus2830 I had older brothers and they're the main ones that turned me on to good music. (RE: I used to borrow their LPs without asking 😅)
The first time I saw Ozzy on 1982 was right after Randy died and Brad Gillis was the guitarist. He tore it up.
My first concert.
40 years! 🎂 Great rocking song! 🤘🎸

Suggested songs: 1 Sister Christian 2 Sing Me Away.
@@mikenastasi8927I had limited space on my post 📫 Thanks 😊 for adding the details. 👍
You HAVE to do their song 'Night Ranger' it's a banger that I know you'll love
I remember NR at their outset, when no one told them they loved them, and they were still rockin' in America. And then came the great softening and the release of Sister Christian, When You Close Your Eyes, and other middle-of-the-mainstream-bell-curve power ballads.
And it was at that moment, experiencing Midnight Madness, that I looked back on Dawn Patrol and thought, "Damn! I miss original Night Ranger!" And I still do.
Seen them in Japan in 83 { i was in the Air Force} what a great show.
Thank you for your service.
Two of the best solos EVER!!
Kick Ass !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw these guys a couple times. They Rock!
This was my very first concert I ever went to... they played before KISS.. I was only 12 years old.. Blew my mind 😵
One of my most favorite bands ever!
Night Ranger and 38 Special and REO SpeedWagon were the bomb back in the day...
Both Jack Blades and Brad Gillis have extensive rock and roll resumes
They were really good in concert!
YES!!!!!
T. MTV aired this actual concert when I was 10. This began my fascination with live music.
Saw ‘em live in 1984 on the campus of Central Michigan University and they blew the roof of that place. And during the 80s yes they were big time. The had a a duo of some of teh best guitarists on the planet.
The smell of hairspray is strong with this one.
Give YOU CAN STILL ROCK IN AMERICA killer song !!!
Night ranger was a constant in the eighties they opened up for every major fan they were opening act for years
Me and my lead guitarist Jay would sing this randomly to each other at practices on Sunday’s, he moved to Florida so the band is on hiatus but we have 4 songs professionally recorded to be released soon… man I miss the jam days T ❤🔥
They’ve been back together for years!!🎸
The best concert I’ve ever been to
Love their first three albums hard rockers with melodic hooks.
Jack Blades rules!
Yes!!
