@@Jenny-ls7hf I sadly agree that he is one chimpanzee, among probably a few but definitely not the majority, who would benefit more from positive human contact than he will from the absence of human interaction. He was formed into a chimpanzee who loves and cherishes true human affection, and he can never go back or become a chimpanzee who only needs or wants affectionate play with other chimps. Of course he DOES need that with his new chimp friends, but he also needs that positive, healthy human contact that he's known, cherished and depended on for literally his entire life.
Seeing Tonka integrated into a group and socializing like a normal chimp is absolutely incredible! THIS is the retirement this beautiful primate deserves!! Thank you to the countless people who helped get him to this facility. He looks healthy and extremely happy.
I hope videos like this can help people better understand the difference in quality of life between captivity and sanctuary. It’s the difference between giving what you can give vs giving what they need.
To think Tonka was gonna be put down due to Tonya saying that his health is not well. She lied. Now he's with his son and is given the best of care. God bless you guys
@@clay1504 They rescued two other chimps from similar situations around the same time as Tonka - Jacob & Cayleb. They then introduced Tonka, Jacob and Cayleb to each other, and they all got along great! And then they found out Cayleb is actually Tonka's son! It's so heartwarming
Me too! That show made me heart break for Tonka and the 2 males that were killed due to being grossly mishandled by woman that were clearly mentally unstable.
This is amazing. After watching the documentary and seeing the conditions he lived in I'm so happy to see him finally living as he always should have. People should not own chimps!!
I just finished the series about Tonka "Crazy Chimp". I can't believe that US have not banned the propriety of a chimp or any primate as pets. It's a very sad situation.
Thank you so much for saving Tonka, and all the other animals that you fight for. It must be a double edged sword- some you can save and give a wonderful life to, sadly others you can’t help. The positive is that with more exposure, more donations will come in.❤
Loved seeing Tonka in a happy place with other chimps and his son! Watched Chimp crazy last weekend and was appalled at the behaviors of the people that keep chimps for their own selfish reasons! All of the women featured in the documentary have some issues, even though their hearts seemed to be in the right place. Captive chimps should be kept in natural environments not in cages or basements and not fed junk food!!
Haddix still doesn’t see it. She recently commented saying that she knows Tonka would get back in his cage and go back home with her. So delusional. Chimps are social animals and deserve to roam and be part of a group of fellow chimps. Tonka apparently has a son in the same facility that he fathered while held by a former owner.
@@WJHDetroit It's obvious people like Haddix and anyone who treats an animal like that but feels they 'love' them is deeply mentally ill. It comes across as some desperate form of surrogacy for children, where they think just because the animal can't verbally complain that they must be doing something right...
Exotic pet owners are a different breed, they are not like normal people. They have no actual compassion for these animals, they see them as literal property to do with as they please. They think it's their god-given right to own exotic, endangered wildlife whom they would basically never even have the chance of encountering under natural circumstances. They would kill these animals tomorrow if they decided they no longer had a need for them and they literally express all these exact thoughts for themselves in many of the interviews they've done. These people are just as crazy as hardcore 2nd amendment activists and there's almost always an overlap there. They don't see being in a sanctuary as the best option because they don't give a shit what's best for the animal, they care about having ownership over them and that's it.
So glad to see this. Chimps need to be with their own kind, not held in solitary confinement in someone's basement, being fed junk food and Gatorade, and being deprived of proper medical care.
Soooo happy for Tonka and the other chimps were rescued!!! I’m so happy to see him thriving , this place looks beautiful and so great for them to live out there life ❤️
I'm so thankful to God for this organization, and for the safety and happiness of every chimpanzee they have saved and provided a better life for. I also want to say that Tonia Haddix IS NOT a bad person in any way, shape, or form. She's a human being like everyone else with infinite faults and flaws like every single other person, and she also happens to have a heart full of love, which NOT every other person does. Yes she made terrible choices and dug herself a deep hole. Yes she acted selfishly. Yes, she broke the law and acted in her own best interests. But most of the time she genuinely believed she was acting in Tonka's best interests, even though that wasn't true. I believe she is the most relieved out of anyone that Tonka is doing well at Save the Chimps.
We do plan on planting more trees. We planted over twenty trees on Air Force island (home to Late's family) and plan to continue that to the other islands.
Chimpanzees are intelligent and cautious animals, so they often recognize and avoid these threats. It's even said that the ONLY THING you can do if a chimp attacks you is jump into some water.
I’m well aware and those are not answers to what I asked. But thank you. One could easily be snatched while going to the waters edge to drink some water. You act as if the only way to be taken by an alligator or crocodile is to be unintelligent and unaware of your surroundings.
We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. Other Nations And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.
