Those chimps should be relocated to a better environment. Then being kept inside indoor cages. Doesn't matter that she loves them. She's not able to take care of them properly. She doesn't have the training or anything to be able to take care of them properly. These chimps should be out in nature in sanctuaries enjoying the sky, trees, grass, etc not cooped up in indoor cages eating junk food.
I haven't watched the show, but my understanding is they were. Even Tonka. Whose death she faked to keep him.

I have a coworker that a had to shoot her pitbull when it attacked and tried to kill her spouse. She keeps pictures of it on her phone and talks about how it was "her baby and she's still heartbroke over it." Umm.... it tried to kill y'all???

It broke my heart in episode 3, where she was showing Tonka videos of his kids and other chimps, and he looked so depressed and sad. I do think it's sad he can't even go outside or be around other chimps. He is just all alone. I understand she wanted to save Tonka and I can see raising one like your kid being so close would break your heart if someone came and took it away. These chimps being enclosed and taken care of by humans daily, eating and drinking everything they want, and then being taken from all that they know and putting them in a strange place seems super sad too.

Y’all need to watch the series instead of commenting because a lot of your questions and concerns and suggestions are answered in it. The biggest issue y’all aren’t seeing is that people are allowed to do this to wild animals without a lot of money thrown at lawyers to save them, and even then it’s not enough. While it is obvious when animals are being abused, it’s not obvious that there is not enough action being taken against these abusers because the laws are often not strong enough, enforced enough, and it costs so much to try and enforce them. When they are enforced, like PETA tries to do with its legal team, the outcome can also be terrible, which is what you see in this docuseries. When they manage to save some animals from her, you see this woman simply buy more animals to abuse.
Thank god there was an order for her to hand them over. Those poor chimps. I pray they can recover and live better lives.

They do address this a bit in the most recent episode and they didn’t stay completely uninvolved, it was more of a determination of when and why

Anytime Peta is involved, I am definitely not on their side. When I was in college I gave them lots of money and I was so involved and then I realized they're just evil people... Seems like in this world you are forced to choose the lesser of evils or something.

What the filmmakers did may have been unethical or even a bit sleazy but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they did anything illegal. If the end result saved Tonka, so be it. Tonya did agree to be filmed and they surely had her sign a disclaimer, disclosure, etc. If she agreed to this and signed documents without consulting with an attorney, she won’t get anywhere by claiming that she didn’t understand what she signed or even based upon any oral assurances that were made to her before signing. It is likely that the filmmakers did consult with counsel to be sure they were on sound legal ground.
Filmmakers did NOT "do wrong" IN ANY SENSE, WAY OR MANNER ! Their actions were NOT "sleazy" in ANY WAY!

I would caveat this: there are reputable zoos and wildlife sanctuaries out there, and some species are being kept alive solely because they live in zoos. But aquariums that hi,d whales and large sharks are pretty terrible, I agree.
WRONG. If they can’t be rehabilitated back into the wild, it’s good to be in zoos and aquariums. We can learn from them. How they live and what they eat. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!
Accredited zoos and aquariums are a much different story than this. There, they get adequate space, enrichment, and food. Plus, the facilities most often help with important conservation work and research.

But it ensures that accredited zoos are giving the best possible care to captive animals while also researching and promoting conservation to the wild counterparts. Always research any animal facility before giving money or visiting because they're not all created equal!

I'd like to see an update on how the six chimpanzees that were relocated to that sanctuary that is like their wild habitat. She should've let Tonka go to that sanctuary with the other six because he's too old to put in the wild, but that sanctuary is outdoor with proper shelter...it's a heaven on earth the cages he's been stuck in his whole life cannot provide him. And these are SOCIAL animals, which the sanctuary would've given him companions as well. He already knew six of them! What is wrong with people?

You should watch the series. They're born in captivity, so it isn't "against their will" in the sense that they were taken from their wild habitat - it's all they've ever known. That doesn't make it right, but I think you should watch it just to educate yourself on the nuances of the exotic animal industry so you can be a better advocate against it. I learned a lot, personally.

Urban rescue ranch is a good example of someone that truly loves animals whereas this woman is just trying to justify her selfish and irresponsible actions.
The director told the truth in fact he hid his identity in order to get the truth otherwise these owners wouldn’t have shown how they actually treat these animals.

I watched the episodes and EVERYONE in the show are all nuts. Both "sides" if you will. The blonde lady Tonya really needs to be institualized. After her chimps were taken she went to another place with chimps and she let herself into an enclosure with an adult chimp. She "thought" she was an Expert and was immediately attacked and was mauled. Her arm was dislocated, one of her ears was bitten off, half of one of her fingers was bitten off, the Chim went after her genitals and got her upper thigh. She had more injuries that were somewhat visible but she would not discuss them.
She was hiding and downgrading the attack.
Even before this her mannerisms, speach, tone and general personality presentation shows there is something VERY off with her.
The PETA people are more disgusting.
First the PETA attorney says he hates "trophy hunters" but yet this guy has a wall of pictures, taken of the heads, HIS TROPHIES which are the pictures of his trophies.

Animals were not made to be kept in cages. I mean look at the orca whales. Those pools they are kept in are heartbreaking 💔compared to the whole ocean they have to swim in. Captivity for any kinda animal should be against the law and there needs to be severe consequences for people that break that law. I don't even crate my dog. That's not even a thing where i live in New Zealand

You can love animals all you want, but when you cross the line of identifying these wild animals as your child or children, you have a serious problem. Not only that but having them in the first place is just wrong. These types of people who do this always have this need that they are helping these animals rather than hurting them. It always comes at a cost to the animals at the end.
She doesn't love animals. Animals must be free in their own habitat. That's the way they are meant to be loved, not in cages eating the same garbage that we humans eat. Shame on her and shame on all the people who defend her.
watching this woman's phony fake crocodile tears as she perjured herself in front of a judge was infuriating. Happy all the chimps were relocated, including the one she had locked up in a cage in her basement. And now that they have an outdoor space and proper diet, they are all thriving. I haven't bothered to look up her fate yet, but I pray she was given jail time for perjury and contempt, and maybe she'll learn a little compassion for caged animals.
Exploiting another sick individual
She has no training no credentials no education and is keeping chimps in cages. Attention needs to be brought to what she is doing and the chimps in her care need to be sent to a professional large jungle sanctuary if they cannot be released to the jungle.

That's not surprising that they did that to her! Years ago I had a rescue center with big cats in Ashland Ohio and Alison Eastwood came out and filmed for a show she was doing and when I got to view the final cut, my facility was criticized by them that we weren't good people and they tried to get us to rehome all our cats to different places and that's what they wanted to film was all our cats leaving our facility! The cats we're taking care of very well! But yet tried to shed a negative light on our facility! We were given a $500 check which I tore up in her face! They wanted me to promote the show which I told them to shove it! Needless to say it flopped! That's what happens when you lie about people!
You said you HAD a rescue center, so what happened? Were you qualified to run this rescue center? I'm inclined to side with the filmmakers.

My family we sis care for them and every pet we've had, ut not everyone does. And now the reaukt is an epidemic of these lizards all over the country.
