Robin Williams playing with Koko a giant gorilla is the most wholesome thing I’ve ever seen. I hope that wherever they are they can see one another. Also this looks like it was filmed on the set of trailer park boys.
I believe it was the only time Robin Williams seem to have left this world while simultaneously stayed in the world. It was pure and only others who have even for a minute have left earth while never going anywhere will understand what that means.
For me, there is no doubt that animals have emotions. They know love and grief. I had two cats, Toby and Teddy, that were brothers and it seemed to me that they loved each other, always curling up together, sleeping together and licking each others heads, playing, etc. When Toby died I put him in a box and covered him with a towel before burying him. I wanted Teddy to know his brother had died so he would not wonder and look for him later, so I put him by Toby's box. Teddy sniffed a bit, then climbed into the box and laid on top of his dead brother while he made weak, coarse meows for an hour. It was an eerie sound I had never heard before. When I couldn't take it any more I went to take Teddy out of the box. He hissed at me. In 19 years Teddy had never once hissed, even when I gave him a bath or he got shots at the vet. I cried because I knew the meows and hissing were Teddies cries for his brother. I cried more for Teddy's loss than I did for my own. He eventually came to sit in my lap, and was especially insistent on hugs, and excessively licked my face and hands. He did not eat for two days. He would sometimes sit very still and make those same eerie sounds before going to sleep. If that is not grief, I don't know what is. Eventually Teddy returned to being himself. He died two years later and was buried next to his brother Toby, separated only by a bag of cat treats and a fuzzy mouse.
This is awesome. Could you imagine if Koko was able to birth children and SHE would be able to teach them how to sign? Then so on and so on creating specific dialects.
@@gayvagina7353 No, she didnt. She was taught to make signs with her hands based on vocal cues or other signals. But she never understood the meaning of them. It'd probably be a good thing if we taught more gorillas among other apes how to talk to us, that way they could communicate to us their thoughts and feelings, as well as, over time, get the general population to think of them more highly.
Chimpanzees who were taught sign language then released into a chimp sanctuary did teach it to the wild chimps. The amazing thing is that with words, the level of violence went down in the whole community because they could say what was bothering them and work things out. I found that amazing.

I wasn’t sad when they said koko died. The amount she was able to accomplish and prove was more than a lot of humans. In her 40 years I think she had more of a life than a lot of us. What an awesome story.
In response to the question about her recognizing Robin Williams, I believe she did. Koko is one of the few animals to pass the mirror test . The mirror test, for those who don't know, is a test to see if an animal can recognize their reflection and since she knows what a picture it I believe it is fair to say that she recognized Robin on the movie cover.
But what's so sad. Koko can pass the mirror text whereas some humans can not. Now that's something to worry about. A Gorilla smarter than some humans. Dame!
@TGM He's pretty stupid to think a gorilla is smarter than him. Koko was a scam, she never understood the meaning of the signs she was taught. She performed them based on cues. Not once had koko in her life held an actual conversation with a human, it's simply not possible.
Animals are not that dumb, I talk to my pets all the time and in their own way they talk too. This is just an example that they can learn foreign languages too. That last part made me cry.
no one said they were dumb, but you have to be dumb yourself to believe koko actually learned a foreign language. She performed signs based on cues. That is all. She never understood the meaning behind the signs, and she certainly could not make sentences out of them. That is why the video is edited so many times when she is saying man dumb, fix earth.
@@molamolamola5588 Simple things such as seeing an apple and being able to make the sign for 'apple' do not constitute an understanding of communicating through language. She is not capable of making a string of signs that forms the sentence "I like apples because they are juicy and crunchy." Unless she is specifically taught how to do that, even if you taught her each individual sign to form that sentence she would not know how to put them together, because she simply knows what sign correlates to what cue. She can not communicate with our language. The signs are simply like a dog learning "sit" for a treat, there is nothing more to this.

I doubt we could do well without them.....obviously we haven't taken proper care of earth. Yet, animals, without our interference, did just fine b4 we came along. We've much to learn from animals, not just about them. HUGS2U ❤️
Many of us seem to forget that people are ‘animals’, too. Our existence is just more complicated with modern creations, but our raw, simple emotions aren’t any more sophisticated than other animals. Yes, we have complicated lives with work and entertainment, but don’t the so-called ‘lower’ animals lead complicated lives, too? Every day they must struggle for survival, hunt for their food, protect their young, build nests to shelter in, and imagine how critical every single choice is that they make. Surely it is miraculous that these other animals continue to survive despite our ‘intervention’ in their world, not because of it. The purity of their existence is enviable in many ways, and their intelligence is staggering.

No, this work couldn't even be called a study. It was Penny pretending Koko could communicate ONLY through her interpretations of what Koko was "saying." Koko was completely unable to actually communicate with anyone without Penny present because Koko couldn't communicate.
@@linamarie84Um, no, they didn't. Every person who interviewed Koko did so with Penny acting as the interpreter because "only she understood Koko well enough to do it." Koko would use completely unrelated words and Penny would claim she was making "rhymes" which can't even exist in sign language, or she meant so sign something similar so it was "a spelling error." Penny refused to release her documentary tapes to other researchers so that they could verify if Koko could in fact understand what Penny claimed she could. No independent studies were able to verify any of Penny's claims.
The short term memory of a gorilla is something almost unbelievable. They can almost photographically remember complex patterns at just a glance. Absolutely amazing.
I believed Koko really learned sign language. And even if she’s a gorilla, they are not dumb animals, and it would certainly not be out of the question for them to learn sign language.

I realized exactly when he said it
For me, there is no doubt that animals have emotions.
Sorry for your loss. That's a really sweet story tho 💖💖

Dame!

no one said they were dumb, but you have to be dumb yourself to believe koko actually learned a foreign language. She performed signs based on cues. That is all. She never understood the meaning behind the signs, and she certainly could not make sentences out of them. That is why the video is edited so many times when she is saying man dumb, fix earth.
@@yuunpaan580 sign for Apple she dont understand Apple?
@@molamolamola5588 Simple things such as seeing an apple and being able to make the sign for 'apple' do not constitute an understanding of communicating through language. She is not capable of making a string of signs that forms the sentence "I like apples because they are juicy and crunchy." Unless she is specifically taught how to do that, even if you taught her each individual sign to form that sentence she would not know how to put them together, because she simply knows what sign correlates to what cue. She can not communicate with our language. The signs are simply like a dog learning "sit" for a treat, there is nothing more to this.
