  • Things have changed a fair bit more than I expected. Oil is no longer renewable. So that was my early power plan gone. I also have to figure out how to trash that base so we can stop worrying about attacks. That might take a little effort, I'm thinking cannon turrets are the way to go.

    You do get to know where they come from. First, you only have one fog base on that planet so they have to come from that, but more importantly if you look around at the horizon level, the attack circle is under the compass. As you spin around you can center it in your view and therefore know what direction they are coming from along with distance.

    Missiles combined with signal towers can reach the whole planet. You can set up you missiles towers inside your base and add a single signal tower near their base and the missiles will destroy them. Other: burn refined oil instead of petrol.
    Last: explosive units are throwable. And fun.

    Missiles only have the listed range for direct fire. Once you have more tech, the sensor net you can build allows them to engage targets anywhere on the planet or out to DISTANT orbit of the planet.

      I'm pretty sure he did on his last run, guess he forgot? Maybe he'll add them later.
      Or maybe they're too popular that a single line wouldn't be able to supply everything and it's more efficient to handle them individually.

    • @zanthrasw
      @zanthrasw 19 днів тому

      @@diante50 Iron is already too popular, so having the extra cog line actually reduces the bottleneck since you can produce the cogs from a separate iron source and send a full iron line to the mall.

    Polar solar panel setups are better than equator belts IMHO. The equator zone is the best place to set up factories, since its the largest space where the grid doesn't shift around. If you take all those solar panels and put them up by the poles, you get the same (possibly more) power, without wasting that precious equator real estate. Just my 2 cents 😀
    Edit: Its also easier to set up, since you usually don't need as much foundation.

    • @sinner5452
      @sinner5452 29 днів тому

      I actually use 4 belts right on the parralels where grid glitch occurs. You are not gonna use that line much, and it will separate areas where different blueprints should be used. You can integrate new energy tower there too - to create missile aim grid across all planet. And to do that, you probably could add equatorial belt with aim towers as well. Cmon, its only 3 tiles wide =)

    • @Phelix22
      @Phelix22 29 днів тому

      @@sinner5452 yeah, I remembered that later that I’m usually setting up shield/sensor towers on the equator anyway 😂 probably doesn’t matter much anymore. Just personal preference.

    You could put a storage on a splitter to automaticly insert it without an inserter. That was new to me when I started a new game after 3 years.
    And you could also change the splitter layout with pressing the tab key. I found those information very useful.

  • @berticus0001
    @berticus0001 29 днів тому +1

    Tips #2: During a raid the closest enemy unit is the dot at the top of the HUD, not super important right now as they will always go for the nearest energy producer (your solar belt) but bare in mind when expanding off world.. Battlefield buildings collect items dropped by enemies (including rares you cannot get anywhere else), they also have their own drones for repairing local buildings and rebuilding after destruction if it has any of that building in inventory or if you are close and have the destroyed building type on you (you can back-click in it's inventory to assign slots that it will ignore when connected to belts or adding a container plus fidget spinner bay to the top thus able to retain stock of and rebuild local building types.. They also help out massively when placing large blueprints and do a lot of the building for you.. Signal towers (the thing I couldn't remember the name of last vid, thanks to the comments) will allow ALL missile launchers on the entire planet to target anything in it's range, keep missile battery close-ish to reduce flight time and either place battlefield building or stay close to it to keep it (the signal tower) repaired. Destroying the enemy base will leave a hole in the ground you can fill (costs a LOT of soil but you do get a large pile when you destroy it) or place a magma power plant on it. The thing in the sky will remain there and occasionally rebuild it's base until plugged then will leave for a while before returning to place a new base 180 degrees from wherever you are standing at the time. Do not click the "Orbital" button on the missile launchers till ready to take on the space hive attacks.

  • @singingrazors
    @singingrazors 29 днів тому +2

    If you destroy the base on your planet, it does "anger" them, but it's barely anything. Think fly level annoying if you're on normal settings. The problem is they will come back to your planet in a new spot. Eventually, they will just move on to other planets in the same system, making getting to those planets more of a pain to access. But you can use the hole those bases leave behind to generate energy with the thermal plants. Or just fill it in. If there's an exposed opening, they will keep trying to set up a base there.

    puting solars on poles requires less panels and generates decent amout of energy. there is always polar day on one of them. It fluctuates a bit, but i imagine that ring around equator does the same :P And with enemies it should be easier to protect it. You just put one in very center of pole and then go in circles.

    Just a heads up, one thing they've changed is that once you have researched steel smelting you can place wind turbines on water. Meaning you can just chuck a ton of them in an ocean and get a bunch of power out of somewhere it would be annoying to build anyway. That's usually enough power for me to get off planet so I can mine the silicon instead of using the stone recipe.

  • @zanthrasw

    You should definitely look into solar sails as soon as possible, as they are a fantastic early game power source. Just with the research unlocking the solar sails, a single solar sail is worth between about 60 and 110 MJ over it's 90 minute lifetime depending on the continuous reception of the receiver. So launching 1/s gives 60-110 MW of power (about 6 launchers at 50% uptime and 8 ray receivers). This scales up with research into sail duration and reception efficiency very well, going to around 160MJ with all the yellow matrix upgrades, and around 250MJ with all the purple matrix upgrades. Receivers on the poles can get reliable 100% continuous reception quite easily.

    The last time I created a 'mall' in this game (was before Dark Fog was added) I made it at one of the poles. Think it was the first thicker line away from the very top, which left space for the logistics tower (the advanced inter-star-system one) at the very pole. Made expanding into other systems a lot easier, cos I'd feed the most advanced basics (belts, miners, splitters, etc) into it with some warp cores and take an advanced tower with me so that I can throw that down on the planet I happen to be on and get resupplied with whatever I need more of. The only annoying part was upgrading the mall each time I got a new level in something (e.g. when unlocking tier 3 belts).

    Crude oil is supposedly still infinite, it's just that the production rate keeps lowering until it reaches 0.1/s, according to some wiki comments. I don't know if the mining productivity research boosts that, but I suspect it does.

    I'm pretty sure I've been playing since the beginning, and I don't remember oil ever being infinite. Maybe a very brief time when it was first introduced? It becomes infinite once you get Vein Utilization to a high enough level. But your starter planet will be long out by then.

    • @KainYusanagi

    9:50 I'm kinda hurting.... placing a single solar panel, with more available..... I do hope FJ figures out the "drag'n drop" function for constructing buildings 😅 (edit: FJ did drag some panels later on. Maybe my eyes decieved me on having more panels earlier?) (one of the many quality of life implementations since FJ last had a YT series. Mini-blueprints is also a great one; place one building, set it's recipe, place sorters and belts, then copy the fully set up building, and drag'n drop. Makes building larger factories early game a breeze) (edit2: 20:40 showing exactly this. Woopwoop \○/ )
