Top 2 Metal albums of all time( who defined the genre )? 1) Iron Maiden-Number of The Beast 2) Judas Priest-Screaming For Vengeance Both released in 82 and in fact toured together on same bill. This is when Priest really broke big in the States, Of course many 60's and 70's bands gave birth and heavily influenced (Black Sabbath etc), though no one referred to them as metal at the time. In the States it was these two albums when the term was forever cemented into popular culture and became its own genre on a wide scale. At least in the States(Europe was ahead of the game). Neither get credit for it, and unlikely to ever see either band in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame. Both had a huge resurgence selling out Arena's(Maiden to this day).

"Wasted Years" has some epic bass playing. The lyrics are meaningful (I miss home and act the fool on the road). And it is very poppy, the closest to a radio single they've made. You should listen to it.

The first album with Bruce Dickinson, an absolute epic album. During the recording of the album unexplained phenomena occurred and producer Martin Burch was involved in accident with a mini van transporting a group of nuns, the repair bill he received was £666 pounds😂😂. You lads really need to check out some live stuff.
The two solo thing was their thing. They have two guitarists. Each one had his own style and it was always fun to figure out who was playing the different parts. Meanwhile the bass is carrying everyone without you even noticing.
Steve and Nicko do as good a job as anyone anchoring the bottom end and what I really love about Maiden (in addition to Harris's thundering, relentless,, blistering, galloping bass) is the guitar solo harmonies, not just the trading off like dueling banjos but soloing in harmony simultaneously. Not that other bands haven't done it. But nobody does it better than Murray and Smith. I might put Walsh and Felder up there with Hotel California.
A lot of Maiden songs have double solos because they have 2 (now 3) guitarists. If you react to live performances this would be a good band to do a live reaction for, they really shine live.

Peice of Mind is my favorite Maiden album . But Powerslave and Number of the Beast are a close second . The first Maiden tour I saw was Powerslave and it was PHENOMENAL !!!!!
Interesting Iron Maiden trivia -- Bruce is featured in a documentary on the Spitfire and the Battle of Britain. He actually owns and flies a friggin' Spitfire, one of the coolest airplanes ever built! "Aces High" is a serious banger about the Battle of Britain. You'll seriously dig it!!
Guys... play everything off of Piece of Mind... with songs like the Trooper and Die With Your Boots On sitting back to back this is a killer album that you need to hear!
I highly recommend "Revelations" and "The Prisoner". Actually you could do "22 Acacia Avenue", that's a straight banger too. But really you can't go wrong with anything they've done, these guys are metal masters.
Just go ahead listen to 22 Acacia Avenue. You got a tease already. Strong emotive vocals from Bruce, killer solos, driving drums, and a hell of a Harris baseline. Can't go wrong giving it a listen.
Absolutely agree. 22 Acacia Avenue (or "22, The Avenue" for short) is one of a trilogy of Iron Maiden songs about a prostitute named Charlotte, spanning albums from 1980 to 1992.
Haven’t even gotten into the song yet (Maiden is my favorite band and I’ve seen them live about 12 times so I’m stoked about this) but wanted to say I walked my dog yesterday for the first time in a while after having surgery to repair a broken hip two months ago.
Okay, old dude here. Never heard this one before, so first of all thanks for posting. Nice to expand my horizons. Next, man, I didn't hear any of the stuff you talked about. Not, that is, until you pointed it out. That opening scream? It was buried in the mix. (But, WOW!) The dual guitars? Didn't notice them either. That cool bass? Thanks for pointing that out, too. And finally, thanks for taking me through that double guitar solo, too. Very cool!
Bassist Steven Harris is the founding member of the band. It is his band. He is one of the fastest bass players around. Bruce Dickinson on vocals is also a licensed pilot. He flies the band in a Boeing 777 names "Eddie One"
Awesome! The Prisoner for sure. Still life, Revelations, 22Acacia Avenue, Powerslave....Or try Pre-Bruce Dickinson with Murders in the Rue Morgue, Killers, Wrathchild, can’t go wrong with anything from the first 5 albums
My very Southern Baptist Mom let me go to their concert when I was 15 or 16 (my friend thought Eddie was cool & their tunes, too.). I cannot remember the opening act, Twisted Sister or Quiet Riot. Mom was probably just glad I was in Lakeland for the evening. (You guys are in FL, or also from FL?) In the 80s, except for an outdoor sports arena, we always had to drive more than an hour from N ORL to get to the Lakeland arena (?).. General seating so lines, lines, lines! Hey, Journey's "Where Were You" is a hard-ish rocking, fast song from Journey you might like. I loved them since 8-tracks and always had all tapes/CDs from Infinity to Frontiers. They have a lot of good music but it's Journey, impressive stuff but no "bangers." I think you might enjoy this little gem from Departure, "Walks Like a Lady," is also good but kinda bluesy, I guess. I think this would be the 3rd album with Steve Perry on lead. They had 2 singers for Infinity, at least, maybe parts of Evolution. Great songs but they may seem too mellow. Some great vocals, of course. Reminds me of middle school to 18 when I traveled to PA & NJ with the harness race horses from Ben White Raceway. Lots of Journey, Boston & Elton (from my memory, there had to have been more though!) Pink Floyd had to be there, at least "Dark Side of the Moon!") Enjoy your weekend!
Alex, Andy?: 2 guitarists (the "dual guitar team" was it's "peak prevalence" in the 1980s (slightly arguably)-), so: EACH player gets their showcase. Dave Murray plays the first solo and Adrian Smith plays the second.
Suggestion; Early metal poll( 80-83). 1) Iron Maiden- The Flight of Icarus(83) 2) Judas Priest- Electric Eye (82) 3) Ozzy Ozbourne- I don't know(80) 4) Dio- Rainbow in The Dark(83) Approve? BTW chose I don't know because figured they've heard Crazy Train.
Saw them for the first time at the Iowa jam May 1982. Set list: Wrathchild Run to the Hills The Number of the Beast 22 Acacia Avenue Hallowed Be Thy Name Iron Maiden Encore: Drifter What a great day!
This does sound like Vincent Price, but it is actually British actor Barry Clayton. They tried to get Price to do the recoding, but he wanted too much money: 25,000 pounds or about 35,000 US dollars. Price did record the much longer spoken passage for Michael Jackson's Thriller, also recorded in 1982, for only 20,000 dollars, passing on an option for a percentage of album sales instead.
In 1982 they opened for Judas Priest. when they came back later that year Judas Priest opened for Iron Maiden. This concert still ranks in my top 5 of all time.
The twin lead guitarists are Dave Murray and Adrain Smith, that's the reason for the double solo. Like another commenter mentioned, it's a case of two lead guitarists swapping leads, not one guy deciding to take a second solo.
This whole album is killer from beginning to end. It is in my top 5 albums. Steve Harris (bassist) wrote the song based on a nightmare he’d had. In Flight of Icarus, Bruce holds a note towards the end for about 15 seconds. Pretty amazing. This is a supremely talented band with a very deep catalog. Powerslave, Aces High, Killers, Prowler, Phantom of the Opera, Public Enema Number One, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Clairvoyant, and Fear of the Dark are some of the highlights.
Such an amazing era fellas. Being your age in the mid-80s was the coolest thing that ever existed. Especially living in LA. Being old does have its upside. 🤗🤘🥃
I was fortunate enough to have seen Maiden with Judas Priest back in the mid 80's. Excellent show, but my ears rang for 10 days after the concert. Yes I was on the floor standing beside the speakers ☮️
They has two lead guitarists (now three as one left and was replaced, but returned and they kept everyone) and each took a solo. So it wasn't one guy twice. The poem was a Bible excerpt. Their third album and first with new singer Bruce Dickenson. The next album they upgraded on drums to Nico McBrain (from an excellent drummer).
Hmm what to do next?? Wasted Years, Aces High, Sing of the Cross or Fear of the Dark from the Rio show 2001. Many more where that came from! That poem intro has a massive impact live! You have to take that in to account with all Maiden songs imo!
Maybe this clears some questions up for you guys. Number of the Beast was track one, side two. 22 Acacia Ave wouldn’t have lead into in on vinyl when it came out. I suppose it would though on Cd. You usually get two guitar solos with Iron Maiden due to them having two guitarists. Enjoyed it today. Thanks!
Bruce Dickinson- Vocals Adrian Smith- Lead Guitar Dave Murray- Lead Guitar Steve Harris- Bass Clive Burr- Drums Classic Iron Maiden, All time! A few more classic Maiden tunes: 1. Where Eagles Dare 2. Powerslave 3. The Flight of Icarus 4. Iron Maiden 5. Killers 6. Running Free 7. Two Minutes to Midnight 8. Somewhere in Time 9. Wasted Years 10. Fear of The Dark 11. Hallowed be thy name I'll stop there for now.
Hey guys, it's worth mentioning that Iron Maiden has two prolific guitar players, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith, and they each played one of those two. The first solo is Dave Murray, and the second is Adrian Smith. When you listen to it again you'll pick up on the different guitar tones and styles.
I was 12 when this album came out. I had the opposite reaction to Alex. I thought the guitars kicked ass so much, I thought my head was going to explode. They have two guitarists, so each did a solo. My favorite Maiden tune. The first solo (Dave Murray), is stunning.
Check out: To “Tame A Land” The bass player is Steve Harris. Fun fact: When the singer (Bruce Dickenson) joined the band as their 2nd singer and went on (center) stage he found himself/often shoved aside by the bass player. Although they have one of the best singers in metal, they are a very musical band. Dickenson found that out quick.
I was a ZZ Top, Ted Nugent, Led Zeppelin kid back in high school - early eighties, and then a friend, "Harvey" gave me this album. That changed my life: I was all about Metal for about 10 years. I'm Okay now.
Yup, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was the game. Played the hell out of it back in the day. Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie, is an unlockable character in it. Cool stuff
I'm so glad this won in the poll. It's been a while since you did a Maiden tune. "Flight Of Icarus", next. Thanks A&A.🔥🤘

First time?!? Since you guys knew Maiden i figured you 2 would have heard this a few hundred times.
They have reacted to many in the past. First time this track.
@@jgsrhythm100 I'm aware.
Guys... play everything off of Piece of Mind... with songs like the Trooper and Die With Your Boots On sitting back to back this is a killer album that you need to hear!
Just listened to the entire Piece of Mind album this afternoon while I was mowing the lawns. (I have very large lawns!)
@@NZLatic best lawn mower music ever... your lawn may not look like much but you'll get done quicker.
Hard to listen to metal from this era and not think of Spinal Tap. "These ones go to 11."
this one goes to 666.
Yes. hokey and self-indulgent in the worst way imho, but also kind of funny while still being well executed.
Or Tenacious D
Hell Hole!
I still prefer Bruce Dickinson over Rob Halford better in my opinion.
Whoever's #2 is still phenominal.
Halford has better range.
Disagree
It's bruce for me too 😮
Someone once said that the definition of "heavy metal" is Steve Harris's right hand. I completely agree.
That was Scott Ian of Anthrax.
The bassist is Steve Harris. I rank him up with the very best in rock, including Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Chris Squire and Geezer Butler.
Well said. Wish I could give your comment 100 likes.
Awesome! The Prisoner for sure. Still life, Revelations, 22Acacia Avenue, Powerslave....Or try Pre-Bruce Dickinson with Murders in the Rue Morgue, Killers, Wrathchild, can’t go wrong with anything from the first 5 albums
The O'Keefe music foundation version of this is incredible. Its on UA-cam. High School kids crushing it.
I envy anyone that gets to listen to this album from beginning to end for the first time.
We were there just a long time ago 🤘
How have y'all never heard this before? It's one of the most quintessential metal songs of all time.
Well it's not exactly pop, lol
Alex, Andy?: 2 guitarists (the "dual guitar team" was it's "peak prevalence" in the 1980s (slightly arguably)-), so: EACH player gets their showcase. Dave Murray plays the first solo and Adrian Smith plays the second.
Suggestion; Early metal poll( 80-83).
1) Iron Maiden- The Flight of Icarus(83)
2) Judas Priest- Electric Eye (82)
3) Ozzy Ozbourne- I don't know(80)
4) Dio- Rainbow in The Dark(83)
Approve? BTW chose I don't know because figured they've heard Crazy Train.
Rainbow in the Dark is a lost classic - love it.
arguably the greatest heavy metal band forever in my metal opinion their best song in dozens of best songs 🤟🙂👍
This Song opens side two on the original LP.
Yes! Now we are doing a great song!
Would like to see you guys react to these as well
RUSH the Camera Eye or Jacob's Ladder
UFO Lights Out
Saw them for the first time at the Iowa jam May 1982. Set list: Wrathchild
Run to the Hills
The Number of the Beast
22 Acacia Avenue
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Iron Maiden
Encore: Drifter
What a great day!
Woe to you O Andy and Alex!
You have not seen a live performance until you have seen Iron Maiden perform live.
My six times can tell you.
The song that made me an Iron Maiden fan was the first one I heard ... Flight of Icarus ... great song based on the myth.
Do FLIGHT OF ICARUS!
Do POWER SLAVE!
Do ACES HIGH!
Do RHYME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER!
A couple of later 80s songs by them "Caught Somewhere In Time" and "The Evil That Men Do" are bangers.
Wrathchild with Paul off Killers but do IDES OF MARCH INTRO also. The build up is key. Favorite deep cuts: To Tame a Land & Phantom of the Opera.
Couldn't agree more. To Tame a Land in particular is incredibly underrated.
GOOOOOOOOOD MORNING A &A FAMILY!!!!
☮️♥️♾️
There it is! Good Morning
Good Morning!!!
Vincent Price does the intro. Famous horror movie actor.
Wrathchild is another banger by Iron Maiden.
Barry Clayton does intro
In 1982 they opened for Judas Priest. when they came back later that year Judas Priest opened for Iron Maiden. This concert still ranks in my top 5 of all time.
Been a fan of you guys for a year now. This one is right up your alley. A metal classic.
Don’t forget their first 2 albums with Paul Dianno as singer...they are great...
Murder in the rue morgue
Wrathchild
Prodigal son
Phantom of the opera
The twin lead guitarists are Dave Murray and Adrain Smith, that's the reason for the double solo. Like another commenter mentioned, it's a case of two lead guitarists swapping leads, not one guy deciding to take a second solo.
Facts: Iron Maiden gives you a history lesson and Metallica gives you a life's lesson 💯
FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! A classic masterpiece of metal musicianship.
You guys need do a review of some early iron maiden from their self-titled album or from the album killers.
First time listen to" The Maiden". Heavy metal for a Friday.... Just made my old ass heart happy. Definitely throw a AMAZING show!!!
I think Eddie will approve of what you said ❤
They have checked much Maiden previously. Just not this track.
Technically this song is the start of side 2. Remember it's from the days of vinyl.
You have got to do Last Child from the Aerosmith Rocks album.
Listening to this while walking my dogs, I’m one step ahead of you
Such an amazing era fellas.
Being your age in the mid-80s was the coolest thing that ever existed. Especially living in LA.
Being old does have its upside. 🤗🤘🥃
First solo DAVE MURRAY, Second solo ADRIAN SMITH both are great, you got listen to the album
At 9:21 p.m. tonight, it will be:
the 21st minute, of the 21st hour, of the 21st day, of the 21st week, of the 21st year, of the 21st century 😎
Nice! Can't wait for 21:21 and 21 seconds.
MORE IRON MAIDEN!
REVELATIONS, CAN I PLAY WITH MADNESS, WASTED YEARS
Check 22 Accacia Avenue from the same album...BANGER
The whole album is Banger City.
"Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" - it's a brain-melter boys, wear your anti-brain-melt gear.
Yes!
Hallowed Be Thy Name is the best Maiden song (IMO) and it's from the same album. I definetely recomend it.
Many agree with you. It is aways number one on lists of best Iron Maiden songs. They have already reacted to it.
Thanks!
Bruce Dickinson- Vocals
Adrian Smith- Lead Guitar
Dave Murray- Lead Guitar
Steve Harris- Bass
Clive Burr- Drums
Classic Iron Maiden, All time!
A few more classic Maiden tunes:
1. Where Eagles Dare
2. Powerslave
3. The Flight of Icarus
4. Iron Maiden
5. Killers
6. Running Free
7. Two Minutes to Midnight
8. Somewhere in Time
9. Wasted Years
10. Fear of The Dark
11. Hallowed be thy name
I'll stop there for now.
Even after all the years it timeless sounds great all time one the best
Check out: To “Tame A Land”
The bass player is Steve Harris.
Fun fact: When the singer (Bruce Dickenson) joined the band as their 2nd singer and went on (center) stage he found himself/often shoved aside by the bass player.
Although they have one of the best singers in metal, they are a very musical band. Dickenson found that out quick.
Great to see the enduring awesomeness, that is Iron Maiden, being appreciated. This song is just as great as when it was first released. 🇬🇧
I remember being at a local record store and this song came on and I was blown away. Maiden rules!
1st Solo: Dave Murray. 2nd Solo: Adrian Smith. Intro is from Revelation 12:12 and Revelation 13:18
I was a ZZ Top, Ted Nugent, Led Zeppelin kid back in high school - early eighties, and then a friend, "Harvey" gave me this album. That changed my life: I was all about Metal for about 10 years. I'm Okay now.
The album covers are as iconic as the songs. EDDIE!!!!!! 🤟🏼🔥
I think you should try "Killers" which was done with their first lead singer.
Yup, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was the game. Played the hell out of it back in the day. Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie, is an unlockable character in it. Cool stuff
