(I also covered this in videos 18 & 19). The manufacturers set their own standards. As a result, there is no way for you to know what you're getting, and there's no way for you to find out more facts. I don't push any products or act as a sponsor for any company. There is no way to know. The vitamin & mineral industry is regulated by it's own manufacturers. There is no oversight. I'll cover this in video 124 (again, as I've already presented it somewhat in videos 18 & 19).
Iron has no specific benefit for menopause. If it didm I would have put it on the list. You are taking it for other benefits, but not specifically for menopause.

Estrogen or a SERM (Videos 34 & 35). You see, learning these facts can make all the difference in the world for the rest of your life. Both bone quantity AND bone quality are important. The problem is that most women think that they can prevent osteoporosis with calcium. That's not true. Calcium only addresses your bone quality. This is why I tell you to watch these videos in order .I've covered this in numerous videos. PLEASE, please, don't shoot yourself in the foot by skipping around in the order. I want soooo badly to help you.
Remember, I'm presenting the minerals that are specifically important for menopause. Iron is for building blood cells. It's specifically important when you're losing blood (ie. with your periods). The fact that you stop having periods at post-menopause makes iron less important than it was during your reproductive life.
I eat a whole food plant-based diet so I'm a big fan of T. Colin Campbell, author of "The China Study". In his more recent book, "Whole", he talks about the danger of isolating vitamins and minerals and taking them in supplement form - rather than getting them through our food. I try to eat an excellent diet with lots of fruits, veggie (including the leafies), legumes and whole grains. I do worry about getting osteoporosis because I'm a thin, white woman but I exercise daily and eat plant strong. Do I still need to supplement with calcium?
Laurie, yes Whole is focused more on "reductionism." It is absolutely true that the vitamins you get in food are better used by your body than vitamins that are isolated and put into a bottle. When you ask about osteoporosis in relation to calcium, I wonder if you've been watching my videos in order. Please, please, do not fall for the met that calcium can prevent osteoporosis. It can't. As I've explained in numerous videos, you must understand the difference between estrogen and calcium with regard to your bones. Estrogen prevents bone loss. It's all about bone QUANTITY. Calcium prevents bone weakening. It's all about bone QUALITY. You can have very strong bone and still lose it. So, estrogen and calcium are both important BUT they accomplish two completely different things. I cannot cunt the huge numbers of women who get osteoporosis, and say, "But I was taking calcium." That's like getting gray hair and saying, "But I had regular haircuts." In other words, don't confuse the benefits of estrogen (or a SERM - Vides 34 & 35) with the benefits of calcium. So, I do not know how to answer your question. You need to do whatever it takes to prevent bone loss. AND you need to keep your bones strong. Most post-menopausal women need 1500 mg of calcium daily. But your body can only absorb 500 mg at a time. That means you need to take it in divided doses (morning noon, & night).
There isn't a "minimum." The big key to potassium is really the ration of potassium to sodium. The desired ratio is potassium : sodium = 5 : 1. But, osteoporosis women hav an average ration of 1: 2 . And that's because of all the fast food. So, look at labels to see the Recommended Daily Intake. And take that quality. But more importantly, decrease your sodium.

It is completely untrue to state that you don't get calcium from dairy products. You need to eat six times the amount of leafy greens to consume the same quantity of calcium in one glass of milk.
Indeed dairy contains calcium, however unfortunately it is bound up in animal protein which is both acidifying and inflammatory. So although you get calcium, it is now thought tgat your body releases calcium from your bones to neutralise the acid to maintain homeostasis. Therefore dairy is useless and detrimental. Yes you do need to eat lots of greens just like our herbivorous mammalian cousins do. Greens contain not just calcium but many phytonutrients essential for health. Remeber, we have only been consuming milk for around 9000 years, which in evoloutionary terms is a drop in the ocean. Many people are lactose intolerant, thought to be as many as 60-70% globally. This can cause digestive, sinus and skin issues to name just a few outward signs. Before dairy, humans had a diet rich in plants, nuts and berries. The countries consuming the most dairy have the highest rates of bone fractures. Look it up because it is an interesting subject.
@@ajayray8814 This ridiculous nonsense was funded by the vegetarian society. I am an organic farmer with degrees in science and nutrition and can tell you have only read popular papers and not peer related, large scale data studies.
I know of know relationship between the two. But, remember "dementia" is a general term that includes about a dozen different diseases. Calcium certainly does not play a role in reducing your risk for dementia. But it does not increase it, either.

Hi, Dr. Barbie...what is the minimum amount in mg of potassium women needs to take to prevent heart attacks? 3500 mg or more ? 🙄
The pink is so beautiful! I went to this endo in my search for an endo and I didn't ever go back but she told me I had to eat cheese 3 times a day and I had to keep a chart to tell her what I ate Plus she ONLY gives Prolia to any patient that comes in most likely getting some money or perks from Prolia.I knew she was wrong but the thing is her office is known to be one of the cop endos in NYC. I assume she wanted her patients to eat cheese so they will keep needing to come back to her and get that Prolia shot! I cut out all sodium when I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis. Thank you for your hard work in bring us this education!
You are so close to being all caught up on these videos! You're on video 121, and this week, I'll air video 125! What will you do when you have to wait a whole week for the next one?
@@MenopauseTaylor I will go into withdrawal. :) I told someone about you today and it is my first time dealign with the denial you talked about. She is 57 years old and still had her period and says she will never go into menopause. I don't do well with people who are in denial! I hope she makes it here! Another one whose mom has Alzheimers and she said I hope I don't get it. I told her about your channel and encouraged her to watch. She said no my menopause is fine I just hope I don't get Alzheimer's. I said you can prevent it watch the channel she said goodnight!I guess she is in denial too.You deal with this all the time but it is my first time dealing with menopause denial. Really weird! Then there was my lesbian friend who got mad at me for suggesting she watch even though she has many of the symptoms she says she can be in menopause she is a lesbian. I don't even know what she is thinking or what that means. But I give her a pass she has had a hard life! Anyway thanks for your hard work!
The more you talk to women, the more you'll see this. It's really sad because these women are setting the stage for a miserable or short future.
That’s crazy that this dr told you to eat cheese three times a day. As Dr Taylor mentions, dairy is fat.
Dairy is torture and murder.
@@kellyjostad4900 Vegans are delusional and dangerous.
@@lf7065 Where do you find this ridiculous anti-science nonsense??
@@ajayray8814 This ridiculous nonsense was funded by the vegetarian society. I am an organic farmer with degrees in science and nutrition and can tell you have only read popular papers and not peer related, large scale data studies.
What are your thoughts about calcium supplements and dementia? Thank you for your work!!! xoxo
I know of know relationship between the two. But, remember "dementia" is a general term that includes about a dozen different diseases. Calcium certainly does not play a role in reducing your risk for dementia. But it does not increase it, either.
Sad fact of life--fruits and veggies are more expensive than food that's not good for you. They also spoil faster.
Exactly, and so convoluted.
You better eat them fast!
I drink a lot of soy milk.
😀😀😀
Barbie , I love you 😍😍
Well, it's mutual, my dear. I love helping you.
u r so wonderful and fun wish I was your friend in real life
Well, thank you, my dear. I wish the same.
