Keto diet and intermittent fasting made a HUGE difference in my menopause management and my overall health (and my husband's as well) I am talking about better blood test results on every single aspect, more energy more focus and better health altogether. I have never felt and functioned that good even when I was a vegetarian in my twenties.
Still, I find your tutorials on menopause management very useful and informative, and thank you! But as you frequently say this is my way and works well *for me* 😉

Each woman has to discover how to best manage HER menopause HER way. Comparing yourself to someone else or assuming that we should all be doing the same things are the biggest mistakes of all.

That was my lifestyle for 2 years and it worked great for me as well. Moderate protein, high vegetables, mostly organic, a small amount of berries, and nuts but I missed my favorite fruits.

Great video! I must confess I belong to the group of that 3% of woman, and yes, it helps a lot! It has improved my quality of life in the past and it continues to do it, specially now that I am a perimenopausal woman. This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. Please schedule one if you'd like to understand everything. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

This was great! I enjoyed you sharing that you are a vegan and that it's ok if we choose not to. I appreciate that because there are so many different ways to eat like keto, paleo, Mediterranean, low carb, vegan, whole 30, etc. Each of course state their way is the best without taking into consideration that each person is created differently. Our microbiome is different and what works for me may not work for you. I truly enjoy your openmindness and explanation that we need to figure out what is best for me.
I lost the majority of my menopausal weight gain doing intermittent fasting and a keto-ish/low-carb way of eating.
I wonder what your thoughts are on intermittent fasting?
I read some of your comments about it throughout the comments but there are a lot of comments here.
I have started changing my intermittent fasting about a week ago because I started noticing weight gain. My weight gain is also due to my vaginal vault prolapse and my inactivity because it is uncomfortable and hurts when I am active. I need to have the operation to fix it permanently but until then, I got a pessary after my urogynocologist measured me. I have not tried it yet. I bought it online....
Enjoying these videos. You are such a pleasure to learn from.
    Thank you Menopause Barbie. 😘

      Maggie,
I'm an odd ball ... always have been, always will be. I look at the "normal" way of doing things (in medicine, in teaching, and in life) and have concluded that most of what people do doesn't work very well. So I've always devised different ways of doing things that work better. No one can accuse me of being a conformist. My former patients have a terrible time finding a physician. They say I "spoiled" them. Many of them still consult me for explanations about everything they go through.
Know that you deserve better, but that the norm doesn't give you what you deserve. But you have me, and I'll do everything I can to help you from afar.

I needed this today!! I do all of the 4 things you listed except for staying at a healthy maintained weight. It vacillates up and down. I eat ovo pescatarian. No dairy, no other meats. Lived in Bella Italia for years. Lovvvvveeee a crudités like no one else....but....always with olive oil to dip and red wine and friends. The red wine demo you did SLAPPED me in the forehead... no wonder I’ve gained 15 lbs this year. No estrogen, covid closed gym, shop and yard workouts and spinning at home and doing video tabatas and emoms not exactly the same but getting better, and wine every night. I moved to sunny Temecula California last year from Denver. My house is in Temecula WINE COUNTRY. I moved to a Vinyard property. Getting very real watching this.

I'm a new subscriber . I have been vegan since age 17 . I'm 55 now . I had a hard time when I turned 50 ( was still having regular periods every three weeks ). Out of the blue a dr told me to have a Ultra Sound , when the results came back it showed a ovarian cyst , the transvaginal US showed this was most probably hormone related and not cancerous. Well, instead of just removing the cyst, they took out the whole left ovary which then caused my FSH to go from 7.2 to over 100 in a month and my periods stopped for over a year . It was so bad I was put on disability for 4 months . After my periods came back ( which I never thought would happen ) I ended up having them for another year and a half until they stopped. I'm upset because I was told that when you have a ovary removed , it causes a earlier menopause then normal . I really wanted to know the correct age that I would stop . Also the emotional stuff this menopause has caused is beyond repair. The wild rages I went through , the depression, I lost jobs, my fiancée of 7 years . None of this I can get back. Now I'm pretty much dealing with the worse depression ever since losing my fiancée and job. I've never smoked, drank or anything . I drink a kale and spinach smoothie for breakfast and will not and have not touched meat or dairy for at least 38 years . I did not know after raising my kids and taking such good care of them that I was going to end up like this feeling hopeless and depressed . I cannot take meds As I have bad reactions to everything so I'm left to wonder if this is how I'm going to feel forever . I'm glad I found your channel . Thank you !

@@MenopauseTaylor It is a great training program, and your comments are spot on. I am watching from the first video, and enjoying getting to know you. I like you! I have one question now, but not exactly related to health. How do you manage to move every year? I mean, that's a lot of activity unless you and George have everything pared down and rent furnished apartments? What created that desire? I'm curious... maybe you do answer this later on in the series, so just know I'll watch if that's the case. Thanks for answering and caring so much!

When it comes to your heart, keto is fine (in the long-term) if you do it with plant products, but not so fine if you do it with animal products.

Dietary modifications, e.g., reducing alcohol, sugar, and caffeine intake drastically reduced my hotflashes and improved my quality of life. I formerly had upwards of 35 hot flashes per day, fed up with my situation, I did some research and found out there may be a correlation between type 2 diabetes and hot flashes. I tracked my normal diet (and menopause symptoms) for six weeks and then reduced sugar, alcohol, and caffeine intake (below 25 grams of sugar - difficult but it can be done), tracked symptoms again, for six weeks.
The improvement was astounding; by week four/five, my hot flashes were drastically reduced to less than 10 per day. I'm not on hormone therapy, at some point, I'm certain that will change.

You are right about what works as I have really been counting carbs which means I haven’t been consuming as many fibers. I have also not been eating as often because I wasn’t hungry. Of course you have guessed I have put on a small amount of weight so that isn’t working. I am going back to counting calories and paying close attention to more veggies. • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 років тому +1

      Let's go back to basics:
Menopause causes your metabolism to slow down ... waaaaay down. That alone causes you to gain weight at menopause.
But that’s not all that happens.
In addition to a slower metabolism, your body distributes fat differently. It packs it on in your midline ... in your abdomen. Even women who are not overweight will tell you that their waist isn’t as small as it used to be. That hourglass figure becomes boxy.
And your fat cells produce a different kind of estrogen, called estrone, that is unhealthy. It increases your risk for heart attack.
So, there are many forces working against that girly figure once you become post-menopausal.
It takes much more to accomplish the same goals ... at a time when you’re more fatigued & more likely to hurt yourself. Just knowing this can make a huge difference in your expectations & approach.
One of the biggest mistakes is dieting. You should eat more frequently not less frequently. And, of course, it’s the perfect time to a cleaner, healthier way of eating.
Your body is very smart. Its goal is survival. So, it adjusts your metabolism to accommodate how often you feed yourself.
If you eat frequently, your body gobbles up the food because it knows it will get fed again soon. That's constitutes a fast metabolism.
If you don't eat frequently, your body holds onto as much as it can as fat because it doesn't know when it will get fed again. That constitutes a slow metabolism.
Fasting makes absolutely no sense at all. All it does is slow down your metabolism. That's the opposite of what you want.
No diet that has a beginning and an end will do any good. The effects will be temporary ... just like the diet itself. The best thing you can do is to adopt eating habits that you can maintain forever.

Barbie, I switched to ketone-based diet about four months ago and feel much better. My digestive processes are much improved, no more GERD, losing weight although my primary motivation is generally better health. It seems they low--carb is the opposite of Cavan, but both can have good results. I think it might be because both approaches severely limit sugar and processed foods. Thoughts?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  8 років тому +9

You are exactly right. Both diets teach you to eat more healthy, less processed foods. And if you do nothing but that, you're on your way to a much healthier lifestyle. You'll find that you "train" your taste buds. If you don't eat sugar, you won't want sugar. If you don't eat fat, you won't want fat. With time, all your choices are "cleaner."
Thanks for watching Linda. I really appreciate it.

Well, something doesn’t add up. I am 54, 1 year post-menopausal and for the last 25 years I followed the eat breakfast & every 2 hours pattern and I have gained 50 pounds. I make most of our food from scratch, avoid processed food, and we don’t eat out much. I have a wheat allergy, so that cuts out a lot of foods. I am usually hungry all afternoon and evening even if we have the most beautifully assembled, healthy lunch & dinner. We aren’t vegan, but 2/3-3/4 of our diet is fruit, vegetables, nuts (mostly veg). For several years I have been adding more protein & reducing the starchy carbs but my husband LOVES rice & beans (oh and by the way, he is 5’ 11”, 160 lb). Frankly, no matter what pattern I follow, the weight won’t budge!

There is so much more to weight gain at menopause than you could possibly imagine. If you want help with understanding everything that plays into the picture, schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I won't get tp the unit on weight gain in these videos for quite some time because I'm covering all the disease associated with menopause first.

I eat 2 x a day I feel better than snacking all day as your stomach is always digesting. 1-2 meals a day is better for aging

I always say, "Listen to your body." We're all different. The most basic message of this education is to do what's right FOR YOU.

Your videos are getting better and better! Thank you!
Great to know you are vegan. I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and for the past year I've noticed that eating cheese has not been an easy thing...

Remember when I told you that your brain and your body may not agree? The same is true for your brain and your digestive tract. Simply put your dietary needs will change over time. Good for you for paying attention.
As for the videos, it's a learning curve (as is everything else in life)! It's been a real challenging to shoot the videos in foreign countries, different apartments, etc. I’m working on making them even better.

Another fab video. I find hard to believe that people eat so badly.
I stopped eating meat when I was sixteen, then ten years ago went vegan. It works for me. I understand it doesn't for most people.
One thing I was surprised to see was that water bottle. If one drinks from plastic there is no getting away from estrogen mimikers, consuming micro plastics, exposure to all kinds of toxins linked to higher rates of disease not to mention chromosomal abnormalities , developmental problems in children, decreased fertility in men and women. In fact bottled water is les safe than tap water which contain traces of phthalates, mold, microbes, arsenic and thousands of other contaminates.
And too, it's killing marine life.
I cannot stress how terrible plastic is all around. Berkey makes great filters, even for traveling.
    Again, wonderful video.

There's no way you can avoid all the dangers this world places before you. People have different priorities as to which ones are most significant for them.

Could you possibly do a video on fibroids and uterine polyps? Specifically what is the best treatment for them as far as nutrition, surgery or is it possible that they will shrink on their own? I have had them for years and am really uncomfortable and at a loss about what to do. So far, the doctors either want to give me hormones or take everything out or they just shrug their shoulders. Please help.

I'll be giving you tutorials on this, but not for a very long time. I can tell that you need help now. I am happy to have a private consultation with you, during which I'll teach you everything you need to know. I'll pull out props and models, draw pictures, and do anything else for you to understand this fully. You deserve a complete education and complete peace of mind on this.
If you'd like to have a consultation with me in person or on Skype, just go to my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME. You can schedule it there. I want to help you.
