G Payne amen, the 350 was an aircraft AirBus didn't want to build, they felt forced into it. The 350's use of composites is dramatically different, they use sections fitting into aluminum framing just like the windows of a house, the 787 is one piece composition which takes longer and is more expensive to build, having 75% less seams. As far as noise I'm convinced the chevrons do cut back on the louder higher pitched sounds.
Airbus originally felt forced, but after a push from the airlines, Airbus turned the 350 into something a more feasible to build. Airlines complained that the original 350 was basically a modern version of the 330 with carbon fiber fuselage and new wings + engine. Airbus intended to keep both models in production. The current 350 is wider (hence XWB) and it's sized up to attack the larger 777s. Airbus also found that the 350 worked as a good replacement for the 340-500 and -600, which were unpopular because they used 4 engines. The 350 is a little more traditional in it's construction compared to the 787, but it helps keep its costs down. Boeing gambled really hard with lots of new tech for the 787 which resulted in massive delays and cost overruns. The 787 is basically a more economical version of the cancelled Sonic Cruiser, which would have travelled around Mach 1. The Sonic Cruiser was Boeing's replacement for the 747, flying less passengers at higher speeds -> more frequencies instead of more passengers at slower speeds -> fewer frequencies.
The Dreamliner sounds elegant and proud! Still not the same noise I'd like from a GE-90 or something, but it'll do. The A350, while not being MY personal favourite, seems to please a lot of passengers so I may aswell get comfortable with it around. A splendid video as usual, big like :D
Well, I wouldn't compare the A350 to a garbage disposal haha, I really love this airplane. But I agree with you, the 787 engines (RR at least) sound more elegant.
Brain salad surgeon, I didn't ask your opinion. Whatever part of Afghanistan you're from, I guarantee that Canadians AND Americans are more polite than how you portray your people. Check yourself
First of all, don't go calling people retards, second of all, I think the real "crap"liner is you. People's heart and souls went into making it, and robots made the A-3-shitty
Not a chance.Listen again RR on the 787 is much quieter, you can actually hear the rest of the engine. The engine on the 350 sounds a bit like the RR engine on the 757.
I don't like either one. I want a noisy plane. I snore when I sleep and a noisy plane hides it well. I've heard that in the A380 you can hear someone fart in first class while sitting in the last row on the main deck. Screw that.
Well the A380 engines are already quiet as is. Throw in the fact that they are pretty far from the fuselage, and since there are 4 of them that are smaller instead of 2 huge ones, they don't run at the higher power settings of say, a 777 and you get baby crying and annoy everyone on the plane levels of quiet.
True. However I prefer hearing a baby crying, than hearing both the engine sound and a baby crying for a hole flight. From a random passenger point of view at least, from an avgeek point of view engines may not be very annoying... But you're right
They both sound pretty awesome, but as an aviation enthusiast I do like a nice deep 'roar' so I have to say the A350 (my favourite over the two anyway) as the 787 didn't have that deep 'roar' sound. But they are both TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
I just flew to Europe on an a350 and it was such a beautiful, well-designed aircraft. I remarked like 5 times during the flight “This is such a nice plane”.
Gonna have 2 go w/the XWB, I just cant can't get enough of that classic RR engine growl. BTW, kudos 4 including the airline, origin & dest. in ur description, most people don't on these engine comps...Nate- Pittsburgh, PA
The A350 is the quietest aircraft I've ever flown with, it's actually surprising that the XWB-84 is able to produce 84k lbs of thrust with so little noise.
Let me preface this question by saying I am not an aviation expert - I prefer Amtrak and Cunard, if they are available. The question is, could a 787 be ordered with the GE90 engines? Or is it completely out of the question?
The thing is, engine manufacturers generally design engines models only for some specific airplanes and their specific needs. For example for the A350, there is only one engine available and its the RR Trent XWB. For the 787 there are two, from two different manufacturers, and they are the GEnx from and the RR Trent 1000. For this reason you will never see a 787 with the GE90 (designed for the 777) or the A350 with the Trent 900 (designed for the A380). Some engines would simply never fit or could never be installed because of their weight, sfc, thrust etc... . Hope it answers your question ;)
Gotta love that A350.. exceeding the range, dependability, fuel economy, room, and passenger count of any 787, and even the 777X. Also, if anyone has flown, after reaching cruising altitude, there is no noise from the motors.. all you hear is air.
That's a good question! I used exactly the same camera for both videos. Depends on the microphone that may be more sensible to some frequencies than others ;)
+Arthur Christmas - Apparently you don't realise the 787 transmits more sound due to the fact it contains a much higher amount of composite structure which is lighter, yet more rigid than the A350. Ever heard of carbon fiber? Lastly, be respectful, won't you? There was no cause for foul language due to this video. Right?
I've flown on a JAL 787 and thought the engine was super smooth and quiet. It's hard to judge the volume level from the videos, since the mic setup, and record levels may have been different. (There's nothing quite like an in person experience). I have an upcoming flight on an A350, and expect much the same. Smooth. Quiet. It's always kind of a shock to get off a 787 generation plane (or even an A380 or 777-300ER), and connect to flight on a domestic MD-80, or 767, to see how much the noise level, vibrations and cabins have changed for the better.
They both sound similar but I would give the nod to the Trent 1000. The XWB had just a bit more rumble but the differences are really so small it may come down the airframe.
maidenair that shouldn't even be an "or", there's no question that the airbus 787 dreamliner is better than the airbus 787-9 dreamliner. The 787-9 is extremely big and clunky, and honestly I would've preferred they went with the smaller 4 deck tall design than the 3 deck design, which is obviously the upgrade to the Airbus 7380NG.
Both sound ok, but neither powred off , which increaes noise for a while. Best sound is 777 with Trent 800s powering off after climb. Evil noise . You have to be in business class though to enjoy it, otherwise you aint far enough foward .
Prithvi Adhikary What aircraft do you think is powered by the Trent 800 then? The GE90 is only exclusive to 777-300ER, the rest has options to choose either Trent 800 or PW4000. It's probably the world's most overglorified engine in existence, it makes people think all 777s are powered by it.
The RR engines have a familiar high pitched whine and buzz in both planes. The whine in the 787 engine is much more bearable to my ears than that buzz in the A350, but that's just my opinion. I'd like to hear the GEnx-1B on the 787 compared to the RR on the A350. I just want to fly on them both lol
Trent XWB is noisy and sounds so bad 😂 i'd prefer 787 for quieter engine and 777 for it's sound 💗 even though 777 is noisy af, GE90 sounds so bautiful 💗💗💗
That's just wrong. Where did you hear that? The Airbus A350 XWB is the quieter airplane, and is probably only outperformed in that regard by the Airbus A380. The Author of this video even said that the A350 was noticeably quieter than the 787.
I wonder if anyone knows that both planes have the exact same engine. The 787 has an option for a Rolls Royce engine and the GEnX (the much better option). The 787 was equipped with the Rolls Royce engine (you can tell by the RR badge on the Nacelle). The A350 only has an option for the same RR engine. They have different names, but they're essentially the same. The only difference is that the 787 uses a bleedless system and the A350 uses the traditional bleed air system.
Does anybody know how often and how thoroughly by airlines standard schedules carbon fiber reinforced plastic parts are examined on these airplanes? Is an 8 years experience with these materials enough to be called safe?
Why do people have problems with airbus. Airbus A350-900XWB hands down. I love that roar! Also Airbus is much, much, much safer than Boing. Just my opinion.
I am currently doing my type rating on the 787. After 10+ years as a 777-300ER captain. I have to say, The 787 is absolutely magnificent. However, I still love the 777.
and now many 787s are grounded precisely because of that RR engine... in any case, it did strike me that the take off time was much shorter for the A350, which would seem to indicate that the A350 RR XWB engines are MORE powerful...
FlyingSpartan if RR engine were the only option, the 787 would not have been produced. Not in today's world. The L-1011 was an oddball for the fact that it only had foreign engines as the only choice.
Prefer the Trent 1000. The XWB sounds a bit rougher, the sound reminds me of a flight on a Fokker 100, think that it has RR Tay's on it? (may have been Nene's)
Interesting video. In my opinion 787's engine sounds smoother and sweeter,A350's sounds rawer and more metalic.I like them both.
Roar of 350 is better than 787 but 787 engine is melodious.
ahc2910 Aviation 😂😂I see what u did thre
@@sfbatraveler I too vote for the 787!.
There's no winner or loser because they're both Rolls Royce!
The engines are different and do not sound exactly the same ;)
ALi Ta I Care about the sound and many others too...
ALi Ta I'm sure most people here came for the sound
A350 of course
Jonathon Kearney Is different type of rolls royce
Well, from a Boeing 777-300 Captain. I would say the 787 is a magnificent aircraft. And I am currently doing my type rating for this amazing bird.
G Payne it's nice to read a comment from someone who actually KNOWS about the subject. Being from Seattle, we're very proud of Boeing!
G Payne amen, the 350 was an aircraft AirBus didn't want to build, they felt forced into it. G Payne aren't the type rating for the 777 and the 787 the same?
G Payne who do u word for
why have a roar battle whem the whole point of this new aircrafts is for them to be quiet
Probably while cruising it should be quiet
Both Rolls Royce engine's sound amazing but i have to go with the 787 because it sounds deeper
Samir 2 yeah lol 😆
I agree
yea good choice
Samir 2 yes I agree but I do think the a350 has the cool winglets but over all the 787 has a nicer/cooler wing flex.
Samir 2 same 🛩

Ken Bailey irl, 787 is soo fucking loud, A350 is way way way better
hey the first video is boeing 787 and the second video is a350 ok 787 is quite engine and a350 have the noise engine ok.
definitly A350!
Planespotting HAJ pi

I don't like either one. I want a noisy plane. I snore when I sleep and a noisy plane hides it well. I've heard that in the A380 you can hear someone fart in first class while sitting in the last row on the main deck. Screw that.
If you can hear someone fart in the A380, that must be a pretty powerful fart then haha

But you're right
1st class passengers farting? Sounds a bit steerage class behavior to me.
The XWB sounds like when my copier starts to malfunction. The 787 I couldn't even really hear.
The ideal plane would be the 787 with GEnx.
The sound from the XWB sounds like an GE90-115B
No.
A350 !!!
Im pretty sure the dreamliner also has GEnx engines am I right!
Rolls Royce Trent XWB from the a350 sounds way better.
thats because the GEnx is better than the trent 1000
They both sound pretty awesome, but as an aviation enthusiast I do like a nice deep 'roar' so I have to say the A350 (my favourite over the two anyway) as the 787 didn't have that deep 'roar' sound. But they are both TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
Completely agree with you ;)
5:03 listen to the retraction of the flaps/slats
Thought it was the same sound of the engine lol
Sounds like my Bosh washing machine dry mode 😅😂 I’m going to hell 🤦♂️😅😂
I just flew to Europe on an a350 and it was such a beautiful, well-designed aircraft. I remarked like 5 times during the flight “This is such a nice plane”.

Pmi Spotter 😂😂😂😂😂
Pmi Spotter when I listen to laundry machine it reminds me of the modern aircraft engines
Pmi Spotter fu.. airbus
Pmi Spotter haha it does
Pmi Spotter hahaha lol 😀😂
I think the Trent 1000 sounds in a very similar way to some of GE's engines. (GE90, GEnx, etc...), and the XWB to the Pratt & Whitney PW series.
Trent XWB wins in my opinion!
The Zirconium Element fully agreed!
It is a fact not an opinion because it is loud
787 doesnt even have a roar
The Boeing 777-300 man that engine is so amazing when it gets up it sounds amazing
DuckDetective that's because the 787 engines are silenced with the new design
It's not supposed to have a roar
Have to go to the archives if you want roar.
it does but its silence because 787 is supposed to be a luxuries aircraft
787 definitely
787 for the win!
Trent XWB quieter in fllight
in my opinion the a380 is better
Josh's Aviation Plane Spotting i hate a350. 787 ftw
better plane but not the engine
Gonna have 2 go w/the XWB, I just cant can't get enough of that classic RR engine growl. BTW, kudos 4 including the airline, origin & dest. in ur description, most people don't on these engine comps...Nate- Pittsburgh, PA
“If it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t goin’.”
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
It's so hard to decide as I love both aircraft and both RR variants!!!! However, I choose the Boeing 787 and its Trent 1000.
I love A350
i like b787
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Free Soul yeah I love A350!
I like the A350-900
Free Soul i
The A350 is WAY more powerful than the 787, so the A350 obviously wins
A350 .The quieter the better, might also have to do with aircraft phonic insulation.
uhh, the 787 was way quiter, A350 sounded like a jackhammer
Dave Gama In real life A350 is quieter than the 787. Just my personal experience though. No hate, both are amazing aircrafts.

The Eight Seven hands down !
Ahhh the A350 Trent XWB is Music to my ears luv it
Even though i'm american i personally like the a350 better. (I feel safer on Airbus Aircraft)
OceanBlue Boeing have had more crashes and have been exposed in their 787 production which showed poor quality,
WolfNugget125 You mean scarebus

787 by 1000000000000000000000. Great video!
"omgomg airbus copied boeing!111!" That's like saying all cars in the world are clones of the first car.
serious!!!
i wll choose airboe busing a780 dreamxwb
787 sounds much quieter
Actually from the inside the A350 was clearly quieter ;)
So why does it sound louder???
That's a good question! I used exactly the same camera for both videos. Depends on the microphone that may be more sensible to some frequencies than others ;)
Well, nevermind, it's an engine battle so theoretically it should be called RR Trent 1000 vs RR Trent XWB
I know it's a few months later, but you're right about the engine battle, and the quieter engine is the RR Trent 1000
Either way, these are amazing engineering feats!
Oh, and, go team 787!
ROAR?! Is Katy Perry 1000 noisier than Katy Perry XWB?!
I love you 787, A350, you takes even this battle Hands Down. You Rock
klm royal dutch airlines get a A350
I’ve always been a Boeing guy, but when it comes to luxury, I choose the A350. Great video!
Fact is XWB engine is quieter.
It sounds like shit.
I agree with Mr. Potvin, the 350 sounds like shit
Thanks for the support.
Right?
+Racer sorry bout the foul language. Really. I apologize. But, BTW the A350 is made of Carbon fibres to.
I've flown on a JAL 787 and thought the engine was super smooth and quiet. It's hard to judge the volume level from the videos, since the mic setup, and record levels may have been different. 787 is my favorite!!!!
They both sound similar but I would give the nod to the Trent 1000. The XWB had just a bit more rumble but the differences are really so small it may come down the airframe.
like if u choose
AIRBUS 787 Dreamliner😂😂
•IFSTTM• infinite flight Airbus 787 xwb dreamliner lmao
My favorite airplane is the airbus, made by 747. Like if u agree
maidenair that shouldn't even be an "or", there's no question that the airbus 787 dreamliner is better than the airbus 787-9 dreamliner. The 787-9 is extremely big and clunky, and honestly I would've preferred they went with the smaller 4 deck tall design than the 3 deck design, which is obviously the upgrade to the Airbus 7380NG.
•IFSTTM• infinite flight Thats boeing 787 dreamliner
I'd prefer Boieng md-11 myria nice one i think 😹
The both aircrafts are very modern and proud! They are future planes...I love their sound! :)
The a350 sounds better :)
My vote is with the R/R Trent 1000. It has a very unique sound, and -- in my opinion -- sounds real meaty.
Airbus A350
Best Roar have the Triple 7 :D
Airbus A350 engine.
Nice video. Btw, the engines always roaring which Airbus & Boeing claimed both 787 & A350 roar are the best.

Steve Dixon , 777s don't have Trent 800s. They have the GE-90s
Prithvi Adhikary not all 777s do

raykrislianggi - AniMusic the GE90 is obviously not exclusive to the 77W
The RR engines have a familiar high pitched whine and buzz in both planes. The whine in the 787 engine is much more bearable to my ears than that buzz in the A350, but that's just my opinion. I'd like to hear the GEnx-1B on the 787 compared to the RR on the A350. I just want to fly on them both lol
787
Close one, but by just a tiny bit I'm going to have to go 787. They're both amazing, though.
The two engines have wonderful sounds, but as I have to choose one, I'm going for the Boeing 787 of the Rolls Royce Trent 1000.
Trent XWB is noisy and sounds so bad 😂 i'd prefer 787 for quieter engine and 777 for it's sound 💗 even though 777 is noisy af, GE90 sounds so bautiful 💗💗💗
Insan Kamil do you even fly bro???? 😂
People who flew on the A350 say it's quieter during cruising than the 787. Also, 787 has very noisy hydraulics/electronic systems.
Insan Kamil buld a a380
The XWB sound like my washing machine at full power 😂😂😂

For some reason, Airbus planes (especially since the A340) are a lot quieter than Boeing aircraft.
Tachyon Particle actually the 787 has the quietist engines out of all the twin engine planes
Jonathon Horrox actually no
That's just wrong. Where did you hear that? The Airbus A350 XWB is the quieter airplane, and is probably only outperformed in that regard by the Airbus A380. The Author of this video even said that the A350 was noticeably quieter than the 787.
Definitely A350XWB! I always wanted to fly on one!
787 is best ö

Dream liner is superior. Sounds very confident and powerful. Something we all appreciate when landing and taking off.
Lets agree: Both planes are just awesome! :)
I'm simply undecided because I regard the two aircrafts engine sound amazing!
In real life they are pretty loud inside the plane but my favorite plane ✈️ is probably a 737-800
It’s a good plane but old and it’s has a lot of accident with their engine
I've done some nerdy shit in my time on earth, and watching this video is right up there on that list.

2nd was off the ground faster!👍 And quieter take off but buzzed in flight
nice video bro , thumbs up👍
Thank you very much!
A350 is just the way to go, perfect view and engine roar.

a350 cause it's finnair❤❤😍😘😘
Both aircraft uses the same RR engines...
The XWB is basically a T1000 -Ten with more advance turbines and compressors design.
The main reason why I like both planes, is because they sound very similar to my most favourite plane in the world, the Boeing 777-200ER.
