During my first marathon I said to myself....nope this is it . I just want to finish a marathon so I can say "I've run a marathon" . Took me 6hr 23 min to complete. ..not long after finishing I decided to sign up for another....(my mind forget torture easily I guess 😆) ...so 10 months later I ran my 2nd marathon 5hrs 30min . It's an awesome feeling crossing that finish line! All the work that leads up to it.. you are right. YOU ARE ALREADY A WINNER AT THE START LINE! Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐
You definitely must forget torture easy! Haha. I didn’t book my second one for months and months because of how hard it was. I’ve got marathon number 2 booked for October coming! I want a success story like yours 🙏🏻🙌🏼
Thanks to the youtube algorithms for recommending this video to me. You are a star! Losing weight is difficult... and you are correct getting to the start line itself was a victory! Great running, you did so well. The imposter syndrome - I'm 64 years old and I have that feeling even now when I'm with 'adults' 🤠! Remember! You get the hang of marathons after the first 20 or so 🤔! I cried after my first marathon - I was 53 years old. I'm just starting to try and vlog a few runs. I've bought an insta360 go2 - tiny and easy to use!
Thank you! I guess I’ll have to get used the imposter syndrome then 😂🙌🏼 Oh my goodness, 20+ marathons to get the hang of it! 😩 That’s amazing, so glad not to be the only crier lol. That sounds perfect, I struggle with filming during a run.
Your videos are as much, if not more of an inspiration as all of the elite ultra runners I follow. I think it takes much more gumption to have started where you did than for someone who has always been a runner, or never had any weight or health issues. Big kudos to you.
Congratulations on completing your Marathon and receiving your beautiful medal! I really enjoy and am inspired by your videos. Thank you so much for making them. You are absolutely right about standing in line at the start line. The simple fact that you are there makes you a winner! Completing or not, does not change that! I did my first Marathon 2 weeks ago. There were 6 cut off check points. I missed the third check point by 10 minutes and they wouldn’t let me proceed and directed me to the finish line. I’d already gone over 17 miles. They offered the 26.2 medal but I refused it because I had not earned it. I was really upset at first but then I started thinking like you were at the start line. I made it out there and gave it all I had when so many others didn’t even try. That’s a winner! I did receive the 13.1 medal because I had definitely earned that. I had also learned so much from doing the Marathon. It was one of the greatest days of my life. I now consider myself an experienced Marathoner, I’m no longer a newbie! I immediately signed up for the next Marathon and two 10k’s prior to the Marathon. I’ve lost 125 lbs in the last 3 years and have 40 more lbs to go, which I will make it my mission to lose before the next Marathon. I will run and “complete” the next 26.2 Marathon! I will have that 26.2 medal just like you! 😎👍
I have EVERY faith in you! Experience can only help and it sounds like you are going to use it positively, which is awesome! You WILL have that medal and it will feel even more amazing after what you went through :) Also, wow on your weight loss that is amazing!!
I'm about to run my first 5K in like 2 weeks and I already feel this imposter syndrome thingy 😅 I'm overweight and out of shape but I'm pushing myself for so many reasons. You are amazing and I'm so impressed by your story 🙌
had you run any other races before the marathon? I had done a few 10ks and a half marathon before my first marathon. But yeah, being in the starting corrals is so spine tingling and exciting. I broke down and cried ugly like a baby at the end of my first half and when people were staring at me (or so I thought) I said out loud, "I've lost 60 pounds and now I just ran 13.1miles!!!!" It was incredible... and i get it on every level all of what you said YAY for you!!!
The only other races I had done before was 2 10k races. I skipped the half and went straight for the marathon 😂 Although I did run a couple halfs on my own in training. I always ugly cry when I’ve had a running achievement, so I’m with you there!! 🙌🏼 It makes me smile just thinking about how amazing that moment must have been for you! 🏃🏻♀️
I got into running during 2020 too! had my first marathon late last year. Congratulations on such an amazing accomplishment doing the marathon from where you started, so so can relate to the disbelief/imposter syndrome/excitement/anxiety/all of the above that happens leading up to the start line. You feel like everyone has a.roledex of everything they need to do and specific training area and all that and you're just sat there completely doubting all you did to prepare. Just subbed, happy to see you're still at it!
I’m tearing up watching this - I booked my first marathon and I’m so nervous, but watching you is so inspiring! Your bit about if you show up at the start line you already won really hit home for me. Thank you 🙏
Oh that’s awesome!! I remember I was sooooo nervous for it. Yes! That start line is a HUGE achievement and it hit me when I walking towards it. I wish you all the best for that marathon and I’m so rooting for you!! Thank you for your kind comment 😀
Just imagining storm being babysat by a 3 year old is so adorable 🤣 congratulations on the marathon(s), I've been watching several of your videos and you are an amazing inspiration.
What an inspiring person and moving speaker you are! That part about walking up to the start line made me all teary eyed! Love the humility and emotion! 😊🙌💪👏
You started this video saying "Wednesday 10th Feb" and that's my birthday! Good sign for me to keep watching to the end! Incredibly inspired by you and your runs Lucy. Thank you for sharing your journey. I'm working towards my first half and I am so nervous. I keep watching your videos to stay inspired and disciplined with my training. You are so relatable and real. Thank you Lucy x
Stumbled across your channel tonight.I ran my local marathon in April and was pleased with myself to have done that from not being able to run 100metres to that that in 28 months,to do it 10 months quicker is insane, well done.
Well you have just inspired me to enter a marathon! I’m doing a half marathon next weekend very unfit but I can definitely walk that far if needed 😂 You are right, just having the courage to get to the start line , you definitely have already won ! In the past I’ve always gotten emotional when I start and finish. The spectators always are so encouraging and you feel like you are at the Olympics ! 🏅 😊
Cried a little watching this. You are such an inspiration! And I can see how walking towards the starting line is such a huge accomplishment and acknowledgement of all the hard work!
Have found you! I have just started running for the first time in my life. I'm a 44 year old Mum and I PLOD. I mean, I went right to the start to watch your journey and watched all of your progress to this point. I can't tell you how emotional this video made me, and how much I giggled too! Well done, you are a massive inspiration... thank you so telling it like it is! Right... I'm off to carry on watching!
I just turned 43, and I decided to double down on the idea by buying a ton of "Sloth Running Team" merch, including a virtual race and medal, a mug, some stickers, a shirt and a sweatshirt, etc. That, in combination with the hundreds of videos I've watched on Zone 2 training, and Coach Bennett from the Nike Run Club constantly being in my ear about running EASY!, has helped me get moving and keep moving.
Well done indeed. I much prefer watching complete amaturs running in their first marathon than the elite runners videos, you get much more of a feel for what it really is like with all the honest feedback, the pain, agony and the unbridled joy at completing. Well done.
I cant think of the last time I commented on a youtube video - maybe never. I really want to thank you for this. I'm running my first 5k in just a couple of days, and I'm 30 lbs lighter from where I started. I appreciate your honest retelling of the journey of this marathon. It makes me feel like maybe I could work up to one too. You wanted to reach someone in a similar situation with your youtube channel? Youve done it. Thank you.
I am just getting into running and hearing your progression story is motivating me more than you know. You are truly an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your journey 😊
Returning to this one as I'm about to do my first running event as an adult! That speech about just being able to toe the start line means winning the game of life is just too good and true!
I've watched this video twice now and I know it's old but congratulations 🥳 I recently completed c25k and 2 runs later managed 5k in just under 39mins (im 45 and not in the best of shape). I already have 10k routes planned out and am even thinking a half marathon might be possible in the future. Every time I watch inspirational running videos like this I get teary as could be me one day too. Thank you for sharing xx
Thank you so much! 😀 That is awesome! You have done so well 🙌🏼 If you keep going there is no reason why you couldn’t be running half marathons in the future. It WILL be you one day 🏃🏻♀️🥳
Hi Lucy. Found my way back to this video again and thought i'd give an update since you are part of the inspiration that kept me going 😊 5k pb is now 31.04 and have done 2 half marathons..no medals yet as not official races. Have signed up for the London marathon ballot (slim chance ik) and am now thinking about other full marathons altho ultras seem more appealing xx
Getting to the START LINE IS LIFE …… totally and utterly understand what u mean …… It maybe the start of the marathon but it also marks the end of all the hard work you’ve done in order to get to the start …… it’s a v proud moment like you say pretty much on a par with actually finishing the bloody thing !! huge congratulations lucy ….. I would say what’s next but I already know as I started watching ur vlogs backwards 😅😅 xx
So relatable! Found your channel a few weeks ago and have been binge watching 😂 I’m doing my first marathon in 11 days so that was a great video to inspire me! 👌🏻 I can’t wait to cross the finish line but now I’m also going to take a second at the start line to be proud of just getting that far.
I have never been so proud of a UA-camr!!! Watching all your hard work pay of has been so fun. Can not wait to see what the future has for you! Congratulations💗
Hi Lucy Your video is a savior I am super emotional now. I use to look for women runners who are like me & was not into any physical activity & have started from "zero" Your content is relatable & super inspiring. I have just enrolled for "5miles" run & its next month. Wish me luck
Big Congrats on completing your first marathon. I'm currently starting the path to marathoning in hopes it will help me challenge myself and gain control of my mental and physical health. Your journey is so inspiring.
Thank you! Running has done exactly that for me so I know you have made a great decision to start 🙌🏼 I wish you all the best for your new running journey!
There's actually a marathon strategy of run walking that works well for a lot of people. There's no shame at all in walking and timewise, some people actually do better with that method.
I love this! I recently started entering races, and even though I've been running pretty much all of my adult life I totally get what you're saying about imposter syndrome. And about getting to the starting line: Totally, YES! As long as you came prepared, that's most of the race done!
The imposter syndrome came in strong the morning of that race 🙈 Very true! Once you are prepared for it then running it is just the last stretch 🙌🏼 Good luck with any races coming up!!
So inspiring! And I totally understand what you mean when you say being able to walk to the starting line is underrated. That in itself is a huge achievement.
I'm amazed at the quality of this video. Everything is so well put together, and I can see how much thought and effort went into it. Your journey to becoming a marathoner is incredibly inspiring to new runners like me and I hope to be able to get to where you are one day! Thank you for being such a great inspiration to other runners out there :)
Totally agree, felt the same on my first Oxford marathon at the start line after losing 60 pounds from running. Only an ex obese runner will understand ❤
Amazing 🤩 love your running journey!! Your so right… i can’t find any you tube channels like yours. As a runner I find your videos very inspiring. Thank you ❤️
You are so inspirational I’m a runner of many years also 5 Ironman races including qualifying for Kona I’ve always wanted my wife to run,but the normal response is I CANNOT RUN.I got her to watch one of your videos and she was so impressed that I thought sh Ed might give it a go .But No I’m going to pop one of your videos on now and then when she’s in the room and you never know Good on you your absolutely brilliant By the the way she will be 60 next year
Ah thank you so much! She’s got to really want to do it, it’s really hard to start with no fitness BUT it’s not impossible 🙌🏼 Maybe another couple videos might encourage her haha 😀 Thanks for such a kind comment.
Your explanation of walking to that start line made total sense. Massive congrats to you for your run and also all the training you did and your positively. Respect. 👏👏👏
Thankyou for doing the videos. So much of it speaks to me. I just managed a 5km run this evening with a couple of short breaks thanks for the inspiration for getting me started.
Keep up the good work, after seeing your progress managed a second 5km in two days today, and I fit nicely into the morbidly obese category…. Think tomorrow will be a rest day.
Good job You! I know exactly what you mean about Impostor Syndrome, but I know I am a "proper runner" even though I'm 60 and don't do high weekly miles. Thanks for posting, insecurities and all. You're fantastic.
I can't believe I missed this video! So happy for you! I actually teared up a bit when you showed off your medal at the end. Such an amazing accomplishment. Hoping I too can make that "starting line" one day.
I am embarrassingly early and I don't even care. I'm so proud of you! I might have even teared up. You are so incredibly inspiring and I couldn't be more proud of you. ❤🙂
So awesome Lucy. Its taken me an age to get around to watching this. You really inspire me but I won't be doing a marathon any time soon 🤣. I'm am training to do a 10k though. That's enough for x
Thank you for sharing your journey Lucy! Your story really inspires me! I’ve struggled with consistency training my entire adult life. This year I’m making some lifestyle changes and it seems like I finally found my rhythm 🎉 I’m now working on small running goals so I can teach my body endurance. I’m starting training for my first mile today, and your videos were just the motivation I needed to get over the fear of failing again. Thank you!
Consistency is the secret to be honest. Once you’re in the rhythm and sticking with it there will be absolutely no stopping you getting to any goal! 🙌🏼 You are going to feel amazing after that first mile. I wish I could experience it again lol. Thank you for such a lovely comment!
I have ran 3 marathons and 9 ultra marathons including a 50 miler in which i was first in my age group to finish and I felt imposter syndrome at the beginning and end of absolutely each of them 😂
Sorry if this question has already been asked before, but how often do you train? Do you run every day or every other day? I’m a beginner runner training for a 5K. Just wondering how often I should be training to make progress. And congrats on all your progress 👍🏼☺️ Awesome!!
Hi Lucy, love the video and the biggest congratulations for competing the marathon👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was wonderinf if you’d be so kind as ro do a video about your whole running journey? As in where you started, how long it took you to get to 5k, then 10k, half marathon and what exactly you did. I’m at the very start of my journey and it’s so hard to find relatable content as everywhere is just thin runners talking about their training plans or like tips for overweight runners but your story is so inspiring and I could use a bit of this motivation as it currently feels like I’m never going to get there.. anyways - no worries if you don’t fancy doing it, you’re still 100% awsome and thank you for your videos❤️
Thank you so much! I would love to make that video and go through everything from start to marathon. I haven’t so far because I worry it would be too long. But it may something I could do over a couple videos! I know how you feel, I truly do. That’s exactly why I wanted to make these videos because I struggled to find the relatable stuff. You’ll get there, just don’t give up on yourself!! You deserve it! ❤️
That's how I'm feeling today. It's the first "race day" of my life. I have no clue what I'm doing, at this point all I want to do is get to the finish line somehow. I feel like all my plans were great, but right now I don't remember any of them...guess I'll just run. 😁🤣
Oh I’m sure you’re going to do amazing!! Try and enjoy every moment and all you need to really do is keep putting one foot in front of the other 🏃🏻♀️ That finish line will come 😀
That’s amazing! Well done 🙌🏼 Oh no, i’ve been there I know how horrible the chaffing can be. My best advise is to get a proper fitting sports bra, that’s what helped me. I have bra that’s a bit too big for me and I just can’t run in it because I get very sore. Take some Vaseline for the race too and keep applying it through out the run. All the best for your first marathon!! I’m sure you will smash it!
That’s awesome! I was aiming for 6 hours but I did it in 5 and a half 🙌🏼 You’ll know what pace feels comfortable as you train, don’t worry about a time if you’re not sure. Some people just want to finish it 🏃🏻♀️
“If you run, you’re a runner”👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
💯🏃🏻♀️💪🏼😃
Okay, this comment 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
You should sell a t-shirt with this quote.
Your description of walking to the start brought tears to my eyes. I totally get it and you are amazing.
It was such a big moment for me 🙌🏼 Thank you! That’s so kind 😀
Me, too.

Hi Lucy
Your video is a savior
I am super emotional now.
I use to look for women runners who are like me & was not into any physical activity & have started from "zero"
Your content is relatable & super inspiring.
I have just enrolled for "5miles" run & its next month.
Wish me luck
Your absolute joy and inspiration Lucy 💜 congrats on getting to the START of the marathon!!!
Thank you so much! 😁
Great job Lucy, I will think of you when I do run my first Marathon. you are quite an inspiration.
Thank you for sharing! and I love how you showed off your Medal-- that's the reason we run, isn't it?!?!?! Brag on girl!

Good on you your absolutely brilliant
By the the way she will be 60 next year
Ah thank you so much! She’s got to really want to do it, it’s really hard to start with no fitness BUT it’s not impossible 🙌🏼 Maybe another couple videos might encourage her haha 😀 Thanks for such a kind comment.
Have you ever pooped your pants while running!?
I love listening to you and you inspire me to keep running ❤
Your explanation of walking to that start line made total sense. Massive congrats to you for your run and also all the training you did and your positively. Respect. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much 😊 🙌🏼
that footage of the car timelapsed is great i could watch that for hours
So inspiring. Tysm for sharing your journey with us ❤
Thankyou for doing the videos. So much of it speaks to me. I just managed a 5km run this evening with a couple of short breaks thanks for the inspiration for getting me started.
That’s great! Well done for getting out there 🙌🏼 I’m really happy my videos have helped 😀
@@lucyshawvlogs one question for you, do you ever run on a treadmill instead ?
I started running at home on the treadmill 🙂
Keep up the good work, after seeing your progress managed a second 5km in two days today, and I fit nicely into the morbidly obese category…. Think tomorrow will be a rest day.
Congratulations!!! So proud of you and your journey- so inspiring! Xoxo
Thank you so much!! 😀😀
You are a inspiration Lucy, thank you so much for these videos. It's really helping me
I’m so happy my videos have been able to help! Thank you for your support 😁
I can relate to your experience so much! Thanks for sharing. I m training for my first ever couch to half marathon.
Oh that’s so exciting! I wish you all the best for your training, you’ll smash it!
Loved this! You did an amazing job. I'm running my first marathon December 4th 😬
Thank you! Oh that’s amazing! Good luck for you’re first marathon! I’m sure you’re gonna smash it 🙌🏼
I am embarrassingly early and I don't even care. I'm so proud of you! I might have even teared up. You are so incredibly inspiring and I couldn't be more proud of you. ❤🙂
Kimberly that’s such a lovely comment, thank you so much! I really appreciate that and you’ve made me smile 😊 ❤️

Your so right I teared up at the start and not at the finish
I just couldn’t believe I was doing a marathon
And now I’m training for my second 👟👍🏾😅
All the best for marathon number 2!! 🙌🏼🏃🏻♀️

Thank you! 🙌🏼😀
So inspirational 😭😭 I hope I can do this one day!! Thank you for sharing !!
You can 100% do it! Thank you for taking the time to watch ☺️
🎉nice to see a runner on UA-cam that runs at paces similar to mine!
I have ran 3 marathons and 9 ultra marathons including a 50 miler in which i was first in my age group to finish and I felt imposter syndrome at the beginning and end of absolutely each of them 😂
Well done Congratulations 👏🏼
Sorry if this question has already been asked before, but how often do you train? Do you run every day or every other day? I’m a beginner runner training for a 5K. Just wondering how often I should be training to make progress. And congrats on all your progress 👍🏼☺️ Awesome!!
Thank you! This is inspiring
Well done you!
@@lucyshawvlogs thank you, you’re such an inspiration honestly 😊 I will keep running and I look forward to the videos ❤️
That's amazing! I definitely want to complete a marathon at some point. I'm a long way from it, but just keep going, right?
Thank you! Absolutely 🙌🏼 Keep going and keep believing you can. You got this 😀
Wonderful job!!
Thank you Sarah 🙌🏼
Excellent! A superb effort :)
Thank you!
Try and enjoy every moment and all you need to really do is keep putting one foot in front of the other 🏃🏻♀️ That finish line will come 😀
Brilliant. Well done. So inspiring. What are you signing up for next? 😀x
Thank you!! I have no idea but I’m excited for whatever it is 😀
Thank you for saying you felt imposer syndrome because I feel the same.❤
❤️❤️
running my first marathon tomorrow in manchester im super scared 😭
Hi
I’ve got the London marathon in October ! I’ve lost over 45 pounds
Still scared of my first marathon
Any tips as I’ve got bra chaffing issues
That’s amazing! Well done 🙌🏼 Oh no, i’ve been there I know how horrible the chaffing can be. My best advise is to get a proper fitting sports bra, that’s what helped me. I have bra that’s a bit too big for me and I just can’t run in it because I get very sore. Take some Vaseline for the race too and keep applying it through out the run. All the best for your first marathon!! I’m sure you will smash it!
I’m going to do my first marathon this year, what was your time ?? I have no idea what time to aim for
That’s awesome! I was aiming for 6 hours but I did it in 5 and a half 🙌🏼 You’ll know what pace feels comfortable as you train, don’t worry about a time if you’re not sure. Some people just want to finish it 🏃🏻♀️
what brand you are wearing? great video, well done
I’m wearing gymshark top and leggings and new balance trainers 😁
GOD MORNING cute Lucy meery Christmas god bless you I'm a runner from lukban province of Quezon Philippines
