Way to go! I just ran my first at 55! It was really tough and my IT bands were protesting as well. It took me 5h.
Katie I wish your first marathon and the beginning of many.
My first marathon was 30 years ago. Today I am 51 years old and I still haven't stopped running. Damn addiction!!
Keep running!!
I'm training for my first marathon . This was such a great video. You did so amazing! Loved your attitude throughout the entire training process
awesome work on pushing yourself despite the IT band issue, I'm running my first marathon in a couple months in NYC so looking at videos like this to motivate me!
Well done, Katie! You did so amazingly well ♥ We just did our first ever half marathon mid-April, and we start training on Sunday (18 week plan) for an 8 hour running race we are doing in September (hoping to complete anywhere from 32 - 42 km, TBD). Thanks for this motivation!
Wow, This was a great video. I ran my first 10 at almost the exact same time as your 6 mile race about a week ago, and I cannot imagine running, 5 and a half hours (much less with just 18 weeks of training). This was extremely motivating for me
Well done! I ran my first marathon last Fall 2021, Chicago Marathon. I can't recommend that race enough. The crowd support and energy for that is amazing. If you are serious about it, try to get into the lottery for 2023 (or go the charity route). Lottery is of course a crap shoot. If you don't get picked, you can only join a charity. But with your youtube channel you have enough exposure to meet the charitable goals set. Im running my 2nd marathon on November 2022 in Indianapolis this fall.. as long as my achilles doesnt prevent me from doing it! Thanks for the video, good job!
Great job! Congrats on your first marathon! Fyi, the dirt pattern on your socks is probably caused by your left foot striking the inside of your right ankle (and vice versa) during your stride. A common occurrence especially when runners get fatigued. Cheers!
That makes sense! Thanks!
Great job! I dealt with a bad case of IT band syndrome in 2018. What really helped was doing some hip and glute strengthening exercises. Later leg raises (with band), clam shells (with band), 1 leg glute bridges, side steps (with band), and 1 leg stands (working up to 2 minutes per leg). It's been 4 years and the problem has never returned. Best wishes on your running journey!
I'm headed into my first (and most likely only) marathon in March (personal goal before a milestone bday) and the golf cart bit you mentioned is my worst nightmare. LOL! I've been training the best I can, but the recovery time after the long runs on the weekends have really affected my ability to run during the week for more than 3-4 miles at a time. I'm also worried about an overuse injury, so I'm hoping my modified approach gets me to the end. Congrats on your success!
Awesome work! I just did my first marathon after many half marathons too. Totally agree it's a surreal feeling and I hope to do one a year from here on out :)
That’s awesome!! Can’t wait for my next one as well!
Greetings from Dorset UK.
I love it when 'new' folk arrive in my youtube choices cos they are running a marathon and Mr UA-cam knows my interests include running!
You did so well! Of course you started off slim and fit and determined and with a training partner - very useful!
As you found out a marathon is definitely more than double a half marathon - training, time, body punishment, nutrition etc.
You were much better than me at doing the other training required! Core etc, congratulations on that!
One (2?) thoughts from me (not 'blowing my own trumpet' - I'm an 'ordinary' runner, not a member of a running club, solo runner who has run 100+ full and 50ish half... Marathons so I have some experience) you'll never have to go thru the same level of training again if you can enter another marathon fairly soon - I run them regularly its been 10 per year since my first and I can now run 1 adequately with a week or 2 notice. Of course that is a silly number! but 3...4..a year with other events (half marathons) you are fit enough to do! The other events are important - there's nothing like a race day for the real test of your fitness!
2nd tip: gels? I never use them. Nasty, sticky, expensive, inconvenient... if I want nutrition in a race I'll eat something tasty! Not melty chocolate.. but other bars of fat and carbs and taste! I'll worry about vitamins etc pre and post race.
I ran a half last Sunday in my new old-man's age (V65-69) category: went well.
This Sunday: a full marathon - nice and steady 8minute mile pace = 3.30...hopefully.
Happy days!
Whoa! Have you ever thought about running an ultra-marathon?
@@RickyPackers2010
Some of my marathons run are short(sic) ultras. However, tho I have the mental fortitude for 40(?) miles or so after that I become demoralised, grumpy and generally fed up quickly😀! So I am not an ultra runner?!
I loved watching this, thanks for sharing it 😊
Congratulations! Well done you.
Great time!!! Way to go!!! Inspiring!!!
Thank you!
I really liked your approach!
Congratulations on your marathon! I know this is an older video but I just stumbled across it. I'm not sure if anyone answered your question about the inside of your socks being dirty, but I used to have the same issue. It was from my feet coming across the midline during my stride (I'm sure there's a technical term for this) and my shoes rubbing against the inside of the ankle with that inward swinging motion. This may have been a contributing factor to your knee pain! You can train yourself to stride in a straighter path and it will help with the dirty socks and the achy knees 🙂
Thanks for the tip! I definitely need to work on my form
I'll be running my first marathon at Walt Disney World in January. I have ran numerous half marathons there, but never the full. I am excited, but extremely nervous as well.
I am so jealous!! That will be so much fun! For me the nerves went away once we started running but beforehand I was so nervous. You’ve got this!
hello :) congrats! 🎉🎉 i really enjoyed this video - would love to see the full copy of your non-running workouts you did throughout! thanks in advance!
Thanks!! I honestly put together random workouts I had saved on my phone, but I did one upper body and one lower body session per week.
Well done love the idea of doing the splits on the long run
Where can I find your marathon prep program
Congratulations! Huge deal
Congrats! That's fast! As for shoes, I run in Hoka because the Brooks I bought didn't feel great. Not bad just a little more achy. It's OK though because there are pro marathon groups in both Brooks (Michigan) and Hoka (Arizona) so they both must be good enough for runners far faster than me! I'm running my first marathon in October (wish me luck). Anyway great job! Inspiring.
Good luck!! I ended up putting different insoles in my hokas and they worked great
The dirt on your socks is from the inside back of your shoe clipping your ankle on the opposite foot, that’s why it’s on the inside and not the outside. You probably did it little enough for you not to realise during the marathon but enough to make the socks dirty. Great video and well done!
I love love this video, training for my first marathon at age 53, IT sympathy pain here! I’d love to know more about what all you ate during the day(not so much the running fuel)
Thank you! I didn’t follow any specific diet. I just tried to eat lots of protein and healthy fats plus more anti inflammatory foods at the end to help with my IT pain.
Amazing 🎉
ahhh I love your intro!
Thank you!
Hey Katie! Love the video. I recently ran my first too. It was an awesome experience! Wanted to ask, where did you get your purple/lavender top in week 14/15?
It’s under armour!
Congratulations! I did my first half marathon this year, and am hoping to move up to a full one next year. What training plan did you use? Was it one you came up with?
Thank you! I used Hal higdon novice 1
I will be running for first marathon in November that will be the Richmond Marathon .
can you share the workout sheet u being using
Super cool
Hey would you happen to know where you found the “ running “ program like the 18 week one you made
I’m waiting to run a marathon as well and want to get one , and I couldn’t find the full 18 week plan on the video that was stated clearly
I used the Hal higdon novice 1 calendar!
Amazing. I would like to knowhow many miles per week did you run in the months before official marathon training?
I wasn’t running regularly. I probably ran about 10 miles a month
@@katiejambor9145 Then it is even more amazing.
Congrats :) im just wondering what plan you followed? :)
I used Hal higdon marathon novice 1!
What up Katie, I'm Christopher's cousin!!
Hiii where is your hydration bag from?
It’s the Nathan QuickStart 1.5L
Hi, would you be willing to share the papers for your workout and running plans?
I think I deleted the strength training docs I made because I can’t find them, but I added the link to the running program we followed to the description of the video!
Excellent! When's the next one?
Probably 2023 honestly!
Are you related to Bean Jambor?
Do disney
I would love to! Hoping to sign up for 2024
Re the dirty insides of your socks. When you get tired your form goes and youre probably brushing or clipping your ankles with the inside of your other foot. The fact theyre both dirty is probs a good sign, Im obviously a bit lopsided when tired coz ive 'kicked' my left ankle so often its started bleeding, didnt notice though.
Thanks! Good luck!!
