I’ve been watching quite a few of these kinds of videos but yours is by far the most enjoyable, authentic and helpful one by a country mile! So thank you for that and keep on pushing!!
I remember the first time I did a 5minute run no stopping. I cried buckets there in the field. Started at 230 pounds now at 180! ITS POSSIBLE DONT GIVE UP.
@@9melissal I started in June 2022 completely cut sugar and focused on protein (calorie deficit), walked 20 minutes a day until I felt strong enough to run 30 seconds. also, I ran my first 10K last week! It's been the best few months.
I’m 16 and was 230 pounds. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and essentially my life consisted of eating and sleeping. As a child, I grew up with a rather harmful diet culture and this led to me developing bad eating habits and my whole relationship with food was incredibly guilty and negative. I am currently 159 pounds and still going strong! I’ve developed a much healthier, active life style and my relationship with food is slowly rebuilding into something much more positive. I’m starting jogging, (I can currently jog for around a maximum of 10 minutes) not the greatest, but I don’t need that number to be high to feel great! Before I couldn’t even jog for 30 seconds! My journey also started with walking! I started with 10,000 steps being my goal, then gradually I could clock in at around 20,000 steps a day! With the addition of running, I’m doing around 10,000 a day + my running routine, eating healthy and I’m still seeing the number on the scale go down! I’ve had so many wonderful moments of feeling something close to appreciation and love for my body (which I have NEVER felt before) and I’m developing muscles where I never previously had them! I’m not at my goal yet, but the prospect is exciting! Not daunting. I want to wish everyone well on their journey. And please remember, any progress; big or small is still progress and I’m immensely proud of you! 🫶
even though you commented this a year ago im very happy to have read this! i am 17 and around the same weight you were. my mom was a teen mom, very heavily influenced by the toxic diet cultures of the 2000s and pushed it on to me as a child which led to me developing 'binge eating disorder', im still healing my relationship with food. your story is very inspiring to me! thank you🫶
This is the most realistic running video I have ever watched. SO much truth. 30 seconds feels like forever to a non runner. I have tried C25K multiple times. Agree, after the first few weeks their running segments increase WAY too fast! Very very difficult to do that as a beginner. You found a much better way. Congratulations!!
I’m really happy you have enjoyed it and can relate too. I struggled so much and just couldn’t find others who seemed to have been through the same as me. I hope others see this and realise that if C25K doesn’t work for them, it’s not their fault. Running is still achievable! I really appreciate your comment, thank you! 😃🙌🏼
This is so refreshing to hear, I have tried c25k 6 times! Could never get past the first few weeks, and felt totally useless when my mum was able to do it no problem. I’ve avoided running for a couple of years now, maybe I need to try it again!
@@TheKotchykus , I just started and I don’t know you, but I’m doing it and it sucks, but I’m sticking with it. It’s getting better and better each time. You can do it too. Let’s get this done and remember the pain is only temporary.
So many times I got up to week 7 and just felt stuck there, I think it was more of a mental blockage than physical ability, but I’ve switched to NRC app and I did 8k recently ☺️
Well said Lucy. Just over 4 years ago I was a man who at 58 years of age weighed 18 stone and could also not slowly jog for more than a minute before stopping completely out of breath! Now at 62 years of age I have lost 70lbs and have run 5k in just over 20 mins, 10k in 42 mins, a half in under 1:35 and a marathon in 3:27. Never doubt yourself as I can promise you that if you perservere and do most of your runs at what seems an easy pace you will be surprised by what you can achieve, and more importantly you will feel so much better about yourself in so many ways.
Wow that's impressive Tony, thanks for sharing. I mean, I used to cycle nearly 40 miles a day in my 30s and did half marathons where blokes joked about struggling to overtake me (and couldn't). I just assumed all of this was in the past now, but maybe I shouldn't write myself off just yet. Your times are impressive!!!
So impressive 👏 I'm 39 and 70kilos and want to start jogging when school holidays are over no more lazy excuses for me... I need to push myself, change my mindset and not quit like she said .. I'm proud of you!
I’m 54, very unfit, knees hurt, can’t even manage a flight of steps. Really want to change but don’t know how to start. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
@@snapdragon2441 Start with something you can do and slightly push yourself to do more. Start by walking for a 1-5 minutes. Do it until you feel comfortable and slowly increase your time. Don't overdo it in the beginning but do it every day. Getting used to moving and starting the process is the hardest part. And then get in to a rythm. Don't expect changes over night and keep doing it even if you're progress is very slow. Maybe you need more than two months to take a flight of stairs without running out of breath. But as long as you are not overdoing it and keep doing it you will get there.
Over 4 years ago I did Couch to 5k, even 30 seconds of running was a struggle! Couch to 5k worked for me! My first 5k I ran in 40 mins now my 5k time is 26 mins and I ran my first half marathon this year with ease! Anything is possible! I remember running for 5 mins non stop for the first time, I just couldn't believe it was possible!
Ahh the beauty and real purpose of UA-cam. Lucy your video has found me 3 years after you posted it. I am 55, ex-Services and on the verge of giving up on myself after letting myeself go once I retired from the Navy after 33 years and you have inspired me to get on my treadmill TODAY and walk, to get fitter, lose weight and be around longer for my disabled daughter. Hope you are well and thanks for this post.
When I got pregnant with my daughter my doctor said I was in the obese BMI range. After my daughter was born I went on a mission to get healthy and lose weight and I started running, much like you did. I could barely run 10 feet and now I've lost 50 pounds and have a healthy BMI and running 4 days a week. I am so happy for you and I am right there with you.
Thank you for your awesome video. I started running so I can live. I have never looked overweight (a hidden curse) however I could feel how unhealthy I was inside. I am 38 with diagnosed high blood pressure at 34, I also work in the financial sector. This means I have a free membership to the heart attack club at the age of 45. I have decided to decline the offer and run from that club. Every other day I run, I'm running further from it and adding years to my life. Keep running Lucy and keep encouraging people to live healthy. Thank you to your husband for serving our country.
That is not a membership I would want either, run as far away from it as you can!! It really does sound like you are smashing it 🙌🏼 Well done! Thank you for such a lovely comment! 😀
This is honestly motivational! I've watched so many beginner running videos. And even when they are talking about how they first started it always seems to be, "I was a soccer player [or other intense sport] and hated running." It always seems to be people who were already fit but just not into running. This is a story I need to hear right now. I've been running 3+ times per week for 2 months. I'm 48 years old and need to lose 50lbs. Earlier this week I ran 40 minutes straight on the treadmill for a total of 4.8km! Only walking was my warm up. But when I started I was running 5minutes, walking two. I haven't lost a ton of weight but I'm keeping myself from worrying about that. For me, after more than a decade of failed weight loss and fitness attempts I went basic. I had three goals: 1. Run a minimum of 3 times per week 2. Get better at running. 3. Don't get hurt. Nowhere in there was lose weight, get strong, change my diet or anything like that. The reason why the last two months have been different is because for the first time *I* am in control of the success. Success isn't being judged by a scale or clothing fit or anything else that I can't control absolutely. Every day that I get up and out running... I've succeeded. I've now succeeded 8 weeks in a row! Thanks for posting this and being real about the challenges. Very appreciated!
As a runner for 30 years (and a coach as well), I'm thrilled by your strategy of slowly working your way up to longer distances! Most beginners go way too fast and too long too quickly, injure themselves and then say that running is a bad thing. Congrats to you, keep up the good work and don't feel bad for getting emotional - that's just a sign that you really love the sport 👍!
Started jogging by walking for a few minutes and then jogging as long as my lungs could bare (which were a few metres) i am now two month in and i can almost jog the whole course (i didn't change it up a lot) and i love it. Sometimes i stare in the mirror in the morning and i don't want to do it but when i push myself to do it, it ALWAYS feels worth it!
You’re smashing it!! It’s feels amazing when your start seeing results like this 🙌🏼 You should be proud of yourself. I love that mindset!! Always worth it! 😀
When I started running I couldn’t do more than 100meters at a time. Now I can do 4km. Please don’t give up because you think you can’t, I gave up time and time again and I’m so thankful for pushing through
Remember that feeling when you first realized you did a 5k and be just as proud of yourself when you finish your first marathon. You are doing amazing! You advice at the end was perfect and the best way to transform.💗
I really needed this right now. I'm currently 360lbs and a mum to two girls. Everything is a massive struggle and I really want to believe that I can make a change. Thank you for sharing your story x
i’m 15 and i’m 170 i gained 60 pounds in the mental hospital in 3-4 months and already hated myself and that didn’t help at all this is the most i’ve ever hated myself i’m trying to start working out i only can do 20-35 minutes walking on the treadmill on a incline i eat pretty heathy but when they released me from the mental hospital my sister had got killed the week before i got released so that didn’t help with my emotional eating but i’m getting back to working out more and trying new things now i have more time because i started online school but thank you for this video
You already know I’m such a huge fan of your running. I actually did start walking since your last video. I can do 3 miles in 1 hr 2 minutes. Thank you for the encouragement.
Oh that’s so good! I hope you feel a sense of achievement after, you are doing very well 🙌🏼 3 miles is not easy. You’re welcome angel! I believe in you!
“Do it quietly” Love this! To all those out there putting in miles (or km’s) I see you and you are changing yourself one step at a time. The race doesn’t go to the swift but the steady! Just looking up and seeing that I’ve been running for 20 years. #worthit
I do think I am a bit more fit than you were, though. I go on 45 minute - 1 hour walks now with relative ease. Obviously not as easy as if I were skinny, but still.
Great video! I also used to be obese (over 300 pounds) and started running a year and a half ago. My first 3-miler was SO hard but I pushed through thanks to support from a friend. I also got very emotional afterwards. Now I run multiple times a week and did my first half marathon last month! Running is so empowering no matter what the distance. Way to go!
So, I'm 251 lbs and I'm 38. I'm going to use this video as a starting point. I've saved it in my watch later so WHEN I jog my first 5k I can come back and comment 😊
I've been running every other day for two months. No weight loss, sadly but I'm not going to quit. I've also joined a running group and run 5K every Saturday. Your comment about seeing other ppl running and thinking it's easier for them is bang on. You are adorable and inspirational. You should be so proud, Lucy!
I just came across this video and I know it's a year old at this point but it's SO relatable! I've lost 52lbs this past year and went from super overweight and sitting on my butt to being able to run my first 5k the other weekend and my experience (minus the child) mirrors yours so much! Gonna keep pushing and hope to lose more weight and work my way up to half marathons! Thank you for this ❤️
Wow you have done amazing!! You should be so proud of yourself, what you have achieved is not easy 🙌🏼 I just know you will get to that half marathon distance because you’ve smashed it so far. I’m totally rooting for you ❤️
"Bought clothes just because they fit, not because I liked them." Bullseye! I feel this. I've done C25K with great success in the past, but I'm at my most unfit at the moment, and there's no way, I'd even be able to follow the 1st week suggestions. LOL You make such good points that it's going to be hard and you might even be miserable, but if you really want to do it, push through. I would add this: is that temporary discomfort worse than the daily, constant discomfort of being unhealthy? My body still hurts from the weight I've gained. My ankles and calves hurt. My back hurts. Constantly. So, what's a little extra temporary discomfort that's going to help me lose the weight causing the chronic issues? Thank you for the reminder!
Great video. 13 months ago I was a good 5k runner, and did couch to 5k a year previous. In 3 months I really went from couch potato to running for a full 30 minutes. That all changed Sep 21, when I was hammered my covid and pneumonia. I'm back to walking 30 - 45 minutes now, several days a week, but this technique may work for me. Its been such a hard return to exercise for me, 12 months ago I was unable to walk, 6 months ago, I needed a mobility scooter. Today, I can manage walking, but I suffer so much aches in my legs. The aches are improving, but i've never been as unfit as I am today! Thats what 3 months bed rest does to the body and I lost 60-90% of my muscle mass. I'm going to try your idea, thank you
Hi Lucy, this video appeared in my recommended videos and it came at just the right time. I'll try to make this quick. In 2017, my mom died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. That made me get off my bum and take care of myself. I lost 70 pounds and I became a runner. Then a year later, I had another tragedy and loss. This one hit me really hard and I stopped running. I gained some weight back and I fell into a deeper depression. It's taken me a few years to come out of it. I have had a tough go of it. I broke my foot last year, twice. I am just now able to get back to it and I had been hoping for some inspiration and motivation and boom, here's your video popping up right when I need it. I paused your video midway through and I got my gym bag packed to go after work (there's a gym at my office building, free to use anytime). So, thank you for sharing your journey and thank you for giving me the inspiration to start again!!
Hi 😀 Wow you have been through so much! Thank you for taking the time to share that with me. You sound like such a strong person and honestly you are inspiring!! I’m so happy my video popped up for you, we can thank UA-cam for that 🙌🏼😀 It’s all part of the journey and you have got this!!! 💪🏼 I hope you have a great workout after work, I’m rooting for you!!
Good for you, anyone who tries to improve themselves should be congratulated. i'm 68 and started running about 6 months ago. prior to that it was 40 plus years when I was in the service, stationed in Scotland I might add. I started running around my block which is just about 1 mile. Even though I had been walking regularly, it was surprising how exhausting that first run was. I was completely out of breath and felt like I was going to die, but I was determined to make it all the way and didn't stop. Two days later I went again and it much much easier, and has got easier each time I do it. I decided to go every other day for 3 days a week. I go right away in the morning first thing when I get up. Then I do 10 pushups after that. In the six months since I started I don't think I've missed a single day. By having a schedule of 3 days a week, it's made it much easier to stick to it.
I hope you read this! I just listened to this video while doing some dishes. I have been SO unmotivated to get fit lately. I have 3 kids under age 4, I’m tired, I’m overweight and I can only run for 2:30 minutes at a time. BUT this video totally changed my outlook. Oh my goodness, you are so motivational! I cannot wait to get outside and start running again, even if it is only a few minutes at a time, im so pumped now! Thank you for this! ❤
I was just telling my husband last night that Couch to 5k must have been written by runners for people who are already generally fit, but just don’t run long distances. 12 years ago I tried it for the first time and it was wayyyyy too much for me, I had just had my son 6-7 weeks earlier and wanted to get into shape. Yesterday I started with that same son (he’s probably 40 lbs over weight 😢 ) and we started with 30 second runs and 90 seconds of rest. That was very doable for us. He’s young so I’m hoping he’ll bounce into shape more quickly than a struggling adult. We’ll probably increase the running time 30 seconds each week for a couple of weeks and go from there.
I'm in tears. Thank you for this Lucy. I started walking, then running for 30 sec, then 1 min, then 5, then 10, then 1 hr. I discovered pre dynamic and post static stretches maximized my recovery. I fell off track and gained about 20lbs and are extremely unhappy with myself. Listening to his video gave me the motivation to start again. Thank you for your transparency and honesty.
Brilliant Lucy! 👍🏻 I so recognise your journey. I was clinically obese and very unfit 5 years ago. Last year I completed an Ironman, amongst other long distance races. It’s inspirational videos and stories such as yours that helped to get me there. Thank you for sharing. I needed a bit of inspiration this afternoon. I have a half marathon to do in training. Feel energised to get out and do it now. Cheers. 👍🏻
Hi Lucy, I just finished listening to your story. I found I relate to you even though I am a lot older. I am 76 years young and I too have the same issues that you did as far as "can I really do this?" Your story has helped me and I have decided to watch/listen to you daily until I accomplish my goal of "running a 5k non-stop". I live in North Carolina, USA so the weather here is about to get really humid (it's June 7, '23) but I can do it....With prayer, your story and honesty I CAN do it!!!!!!! Blessing! victoria
Doing it for myself changed my mind set. I used to do it for a special event like a friends wedding or a trip. Always failed, but doing it for myself and showing up myself has helped me drop 25 lbs in 4 months w/ strength training and walking. Now, trying to incorporate running! Thanks for the inspiration!
I’ve just watched this for the second time. I found this so inspiring that I bought a second hand treadmill three weeks ago and started walking. I’m noticing the difference already! I just walked my first 5k, with a few minutes of running here and there during it. For the first several days I could only walk for 10 minutes, but I’ve built the time up. I’ve watched again for ideas to build up further. I’m showing up for myself again after years of self-neglect. Thank you for showing that it’s possible ❤
Love this! I used to run daily and did a couple half marathons and then with the lockdowns and covid I stopped and gained a ton of weight. I'm documenting my journey to get fit....ish here too, and this video makes me want to find my love for running again! So thank you! Awesome job on your journey so far!
Wow wow this is amazing I love how you talk about your journey it’s extremely inspiring ❤ Im a 52 yr old ultra trail runner and I can so relate with what you say .. my running journey began when I became 40 and since then My life has completely changed .. it’s never about speed , it’s always about not stopping and keeps that heart racing ,, love your story thanks for sharing
Thank you for this. I am at my heaviest at just over 230 and I feel so discouraged and unhealthy. I totally know what you mean by wearing clothes because they fit and sweating just going out for a quick errand. Couch to 5k didn't work for me either and it's even more discouraging. I don't have anyone near me looking to do the same so my journey needs to be mostly self-motivated. I've been feeling pretty lost on where to start so hearing that you just started with walking then adding running slowly makes it feel possible.
I know exactly how you feel and it sucks. Always be kind to yourself because once I decided to become my own biggest supporter there was no stopping me. I just know you can do it. It is 100% possible 😀 Just one step at a time and a bit of patience and you will be out there running!! 🏃🏻♀️
You're awesome 🥰 I'm a bit different from you: used to be fit, now fat and old. Your encouragement struck home 150% more than the athletic UA-camrs who make me wish I could go back in time. thank you so much! xxxxx
Thank you so much! 😀 I’m happy my video helped. We can always write the next chapter to be just as (or more!) exciting as the last, no matter what. You got this! 🙌🏼 xxx
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing your story. I went out with my husband this morning and ran for 30 seconds and walked for 2 minutes for 20 minutes. My feet hurt so bad that I wasn't sure I wanted to try again. Thanks for the encouragement to push past the pain!
So inspiring!! One thing to note is that some of the pain could be improved, and the whole experience could be safer by doing stretches and strength training. Running is hard on the body and strength training during the whole process will make you stronger and help with the pain and prevent injury
This is so inspiring. I've walking every day for at least 1 hour and working to get my 1 mile time down each time. Just yesterday I was thinking that I'll probably want to start running soon...randomly seeing your video has just made me want to push harder (but also listen to my body!). Thank you and well done! It's also lovely to hear what a supportive husband you have
That’s so exciting that you can feel progress already and want to start running some of it 🙌🏼 You’ve got this!! 🏃🏻♀️💪🏼 Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind comment 😀
That “5K” realization moment happened for me, also! By chance, today itself, I cranked out an early morning 5K also as a newer runner! Congrats!!! It is a journey, all of us who are learning, or relearning in many cases, how to be “childlike” again, are enjoying playing basic games that any other child at heart person can recognize! Happy trails! :)
Also, COMPLETELY AGREE on the “if I’d started outside to begin with…” :) I rarely touch the treadmill now, but I’ve thought about it in these unusually H-O-T over 100 (for months now) temperatures!
I had been running for 10 years since 2010, completed many half and 1 full marathon, but had to pause due to medical reason. After pausing running for 2 years or so, i have gain some unwanted weight, i have knee pain due to the sedentary lifestyle i had. Now i am trying to get back and your story inspired me. Keep running and posting good inspiring videos.
C25k did it for me, it was a great fit for me and after years of trying to get into running I finally managed it with c25k. However, I did my progress slower than the program told me, I think it took me about twice as long. And I also was fairly fit going in. I walked a lot for years when I started c25k, so it wasn't even from couch at all. Your words are a good reminder that you can be a runner even if c25k isn't for you. I needed that because I think I tend to get quite preachy about it since it did wonders for me. This video is so inspiring! Today I had a run for the first time after being sick for a few weeks and it was really hard. I am proud though because I know I'm getting back into it after the break.
I think the main issue people have with is that it progresses too quickly. Going slower than the program is designed would counteract that. It's a complaint about the structure of the program, which seems like a reasonable thing, since you also noticed you needed more time. So the actual program would have been too fast for you and you recognised that and made it fit for you. You could say that that means the program itself as it was intented was not actually a good fit for you, if you follow my drift.
I just found your channel and I am here to stay. So happy to have found a relatable runner. I had a hard time finding someone who talked about how hard it is to even be fit enough to run more than 1 min. Such great content! Thank you for sharing your journey as inspiration for all of us who are just getting started!
I run a lot, don’t have weight issues but I’m glad this popped up on my feed among other running videos, I love hearing real fitness growth stories. Well done!
When she said "I could only manage 25 seconds..." I FELT that!!!😂😂😂😂 I decided to make a life change August 25th and at 256lbs tried to jump straight back on the treadmill at the gym at the speeds I used to do when I fitter. HA!!! Got humbled REAL quick. Yesterday I finally managed my first solid "push" 6 minute run. Listening to my body and giving myself grace was key. I love this video because it's true; some people need to ease into the improvements but even if you don't have a good workout or can't go as fast or far as you would like, slow it down, take a break and try again but - keep going!! 💪🏿💪🏿☺️
Thank you for speaking so honestly about your journey to health and well being. You're an inspiration, I am on the cusp of getting into running, after watching this I will be going slow and listening to my body. Thank you!
Cant sleep, asking God how do I start exercising back after 2 kids. Literally asking Him how to fit it into my schedule. My husband is also away in mission right now and I cant leave the house anytime I want with my toddler and baby. I begun to browse the internet and this is FIRST video suggestion. I said no way! Didn’t expect such a quick answer, neither did I expect running to be the answer. I had looked into different exercises and had not looked at running at all! I use to run, i actually like it. Anyways, just to say that your video was an answer to my prayers today. It was what I need to hear since I complicate things at times. I just need to start running instead of all these other exercises that I never begin or continue. You are very sweet, thank You!
I don't know why your video ended up in my feed however I'm so happy for you! Thanks for laying out your journey and keeping at it! Very inspirational.
I am working. Through this myself now. I am 230 pounds with my last child putting 60 pounds on me! I have never felt this heavy and out of shape in my life. But I got some running shoes and started walking/running and just focused on what I was comfortable doing and what didn’t make me feel like I was dying. I’m not even focused on my weight it’s just about how I feel in my body and if I feel healthy. Thank you for being so realistic and honest!
Thank you for this video I can’t find videos like this! I was never a runner and always thought I could never be a runner. I’ve started run/walking 3 min on and off. I can finally run 10 min straight which is huge for me. Can’t wait to see if I can run 30 min straight. That seems so unreal but I’m hoping I can!! This video gives me motivation🎉
I started as you did ❤ Showing up for myself i've walked myself 50lb lighter. Now i need to step up, having reached a plateau. My goal is to lose another 50lb. My dream is to run along the beach in summer. Your story is super motivating, so grateful. Thanks for sharing x
i'm an avid walker, happily will do a 10k on a free day, but I've never been able to get into running. I've been interested in it again recently, and have been watching videos to learn more and motivate myself (it takes me a while tostart things) and I gotta say, this is one of the most motivating videos out there! thank you for your practical and realistic delightful stories, and sharing it. i hope that you're well!
Aww I really needed this video tonight. I graduated c25k two weeks ago and have run two 5k’s since (had a week off for my bday!) and I just feel so slow and deflated. But you’re right, I’m showing up and doing it. I don’t want to stop now after pushing through those tough weeks. Slow and steady wins the race 😊
Thanks for the encouragement. Just got back from jogging for the first time in years and it absolutely wrecked me. I'll get back there again and not quit. Hell, I'm gonna do aerobics and then try to run tomorrow. Let's do this 💪
I have been trying to pick up running for the last two weeks. Right now I'm in the stage of my calfs hurting a lot. This video is incredibly inspirational for me. I can't even imagine myself running a half marathon, but right now I can run for five minutes to begin with. Lucy, your story is so important to me, and I will just keep doing it. Thanks!
This is a PERFECT message for people who want to lose weight or get in better shape. Believe in yourself! You can do it, take the time, no quick fix. But in time, you will be able to move more freely and feel better. Well done!
This is the perfect video for what I've been wanting to do this coming year...EXACTLY as you said...Go from walking to running and in less time!! THANK YOU for sharing your very, very encouraging video concerning one of the hardest workouts I feel there is...that dreadful run. It's hot, it gets sweaty, and your encouraging words are just what I needed to start and hopefully begin and end this year with such a great resolution in sight!! THANK YOU for sharing how absolutely obtainable our shared goal is!!
I am right around where you were when you started. I just finished my first 5k on Saturday. I couldn't help crying tears of joy as soon as I finished. I'm excited to keep going and see where it takes me...I'd say I walked about half of the time, and my "running" speed isn't much quicker than walking. Thank you for sharing your story!
Thank you so much for posting this!! I just had my 5th baby 7 weeks ago and I seriously can't believe my body. I feel ok mentally this time thank God. But I'm ready to feel strong again!! Taking it slow, because I don't have the bounce back in my head thinking I need to look like I was never pregnant. But also, I'm ready to feel strong again. I wanna be a strong, healthy, fit mom and play with my kiddos without getting outta breath. I told myself when he's 3 months old, I'm gonna go all in. And this was the perfect inspirational video to see. Knowing that all ppl who run and work out still struggle was a HUGE help for me mentally! I truly thought it's just so hard for me because I've let myself become so far gone, so what's the point. Even though I desperately WANT to change. So thank you so much!
I needed this video because I’m starting back up on my fitness. The hardest part is when you don’t have anyone to share your journey with or friends to run with. But it starts with me getting up and doing it. Yes I don’t need to share with no one and just do and show up and people will see the change because I’m afraid they judge me before I even start. Some people doubt you and put you down before you even start so I’m silently doing it in the background while watching videos like yours to keep me going. Thank you for sharing your journey. Inspiring.
This is literally me right now. Tried day 1 of couch to 5k, cried because of my inability. But going to keep at it one way or another so this video is really inspiring 💗
I started running a month ago. It was difficult. When i say difficult, i mean it was embarrassingly difficult to run. A month in, i can now run 2.5K without stopping. I've seen changes in my mood, my skin, my need to eat junk food, everything. I am sleeping so much better and i have started to see a change in my weight too. So, if anyone is reading this and feels that they cannot do it, you absolutely can. Remember, the first step in couch to 5k is getting up from the couch and doing something. If you can do that, you're already winning. You're getting better.
i think we started at the same time,,i started jan.2 just finished my 3rd week 6 runs per week. We have the same distance too i guess, maybe mine is 2.3k. :)
Thank you so much for your video. I needed this so much!!! I have just started the couch to 5k and I am finding it so hard. I loved hearing what you did and I think I will try your techniques. I am determine to achieve this. Today I went for a run and thought I was the only one who finds starting running hard. But now I know other people feel the same and I have to just keep going. Thanks again xx
Morning Lucy, I wanted to message to say THANK YOU 🎉 back in June I came across this video, and it really was the turning point for me. I downloaded C25K & here I am almost 6 months later running Parkrun weekly, +20km (usually) in the week. I am hooked. You're video really is inspiring and I have sent it to many people since. X
I watched your video while doing 10km on the treadmill alternating running for 5 minutes and walking for 2 minutes. You've given me hope for how much improvement I could potentially see in a year ❤
You are so inspirational! I want to be a runner. Currently weigh what you did. Started C25k but couldnt cope. Currently running 6 one minute runs with 3 minute walks inbetween. I feel stronger every week. I am listening to my body and slowly adding a minute at a time. Thank you for your video!❤
I just went for a walk after months of practically no activity (largely due to an injury), and I tried running. It was just from one mailbox to another, maybe twenty seconds of running, if that, but I did it, and it wasn’t bad at all! For the longest time I’ve felt like I can’t run, but I’ve always wanted to be able to, and you’ve inspired me, Lucy! In fact, this is the second time I’ve watched this video, and I wish I could give it another thumbs up! Thank you for your channel!
Your comment has put a huge smile on my face! I’m so happy you did it and felt like it wasn’t bad at all 🙌🏼 AND you believe in yourself to go further!! Yes! Yes you can! Thank you so much 😊 This is why I make the videos I do and I’m happy my channel found you ❤️
I’m a huge Disney fan so I’ve signed up for virtual Disney 5k’s. Right now, with this heat, even a mile outside is awful, but I did a search on UA-cam and this video popped up. I’m so glad I watched it. I hate running, mostly I think because it showed me every time how out of shape I was. Uncomfortable, out of breath. Sweating. But…I want those Disney medals more than I want to avoid those things. Your video here is so encouraging. You’ve given me so many ideas of ways to make it work without overdoing it and pushing too hard to where I’d quit. I just got new shoes and wore them yesterday. I got tips from my therapist actually (get body glide to avoid chafing! Put body glide in a Fanny pack on runs!) Thanks for posting this
This is the most realistic story of adult athletics I've ever seen on youtube!! There is SO much potential even in the most sedentary middle aged person, but the path to getting there is always going to look like this. And then you look back and it is hard to imagine you're the same person.
More or less how I started, I walked outdoors pushing my son in his stroller and then in May 2022 I started working in running intervals. Now (October 2022) I can run 4.5 miles. I haven't been losing weight much, but I haven't been trying. I started with strength training, so I gained muscle, dropped a size, and had no pain or injuries while running. I am thinking about losing some weight so I can run faster. But diet culture is so toxic and weight loss in a poor motivator in the long term. So I am trying to focus on fitness achievements instead.
I love your mindset! Weight loss was something I needed to do for my health and mental health. You’re right about it being toxic, it’s very easy to fall into trap but focusing on fitness made a huge difference and I’ve never been more confident now I have my fitness 😀 I’m sure you are going to absolutely smash it! Im rooting for you 🙌🏼
This is the video I really needed. I’m constantly stopping and starting. I push too much in the beginning then give up because I can’t stick to it. I’m going to try it your way. Just start by walking. You are amazing and your journey is amazing!
I don’t even know you and I am so SO proud of you! Starting to run when you already have a good level of fitness is hard let alone being overweight and not having done much exercise. Such a brilliant story and motivation! ❤
Thank you!! This is me. Couch to 5k programs have all been crazy to me- appreciate the perspective and find it motivating that someone like me can make this happen
I’m trying a couch to 5k plan now. So far, one of the big things I’ve been learning is to jog at a slower pace than I think I need to. I was getting out of breath easily. When I slow my pace more, I can keep up better, I’m currently on running three sets of 5-6.5 minutes for three sets with 3 minutes walking in between. The plan I printed out says to repeat a week if you need to and/or take extra rest days if needed. One downside to starting the couch to 5 is that I get a runny nose when I do the jogging/running. It’s very annoying and I have to try to remember to bring tissues with me. I also am still at the stage of having my calves hurt when running. My knees also bother me sometimes (some days I have to use an ACE bandage or knee brace on my left knee for extra support). My main workouts of choice are dancing, hula hooping, and walking. I enjoy swimming too, although don’t do it much. I’m trying to train for a 5k at the suggestion of one of my doctors, to try to help boost my mood and confidence more. Also, I do find running in place to be easier than running from point A to point B.
I love your story! It reminds me of my own. I was very fit before I became a mother, and for several years didn’t recognize myself. I’m getting back to what I was, but with my husband and little ones being fit again just Carrie’s so much more meaning. God bless you and yours, and keep running!
Your video was a great inspiration to me, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story! I’ve lost 125 lbs over the last three years by eating better, cycling, and walking. I started training for a Marathon. I was going to walk it. Due to time restrictions I was not allowed to complete the full marathon, but I did complete the half marathon. I decided the last four miles I would try running. I did it and I was amazed I had it in me. My goal is to try again next year and “run” the full marathon. Your story is a great encouragement and inspiration to me. I really appreciate it! 👍
I needed to hear this. Today was my first day, and it was SO HARD, but the small accomplishmentfelt so good. Thank you so much for the motivation and encouragement! I am going to keep going, even when it gets hard!
I love this video! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I start and then I stop because “running just ain’t for me”. Good for you for having the discipline to continue!
This is unbelievably inspiring! Thank you for this video! I think for me, starting on the treadmill would be helpful too. I would like to point out the difference between muscle soreness and repetitive use injuries like tendinitis, shin splints, plantar fasciitis. You can’t keep going through those - they will just get worse. As you get older, joints and tendons become more of a problem than muscle soreness.
Thank you. I'm 56 years old and I weigh 89.5 kilo. My knees are hurting a lot and I must lose weight. I've just bought a treadmill 1week ago and I love it. I'm not running now but I am walking. I hope one day i can run too. I will not give up.
This is what I needed to hear. I am extremely unfit, overweight, and generally want to lose weight and to get in shape again. However, I am not fit, have asthma, and find it hard to keep going when it’s hard. I’d love to become a runner. It’s harder in this heat, since it flares up my asthma, but I do have a treadmill that I need to make more accessible. Then, I can start walking on it, get used to walking. I’ve been solely thinking of my fitness and weight loss journey as a solely short-term goal, which is a mistake. It’s a long-term thing with many short-term goals within that. Walking is an easy first step, as even a mile in this heat has me out of breath and a sweaty mess. Diet is important too, but with my ADHD, exercise does help and. I need to make that a priority at least every other day, if not daily. So, thank you for helping me realize that and work towards a short-and-long-term list of goals fitting to this.
I just started running and had my first 10 min mile the other day which I know isn’t amazing but it’s the fast mile I’ve ever had so I’m hooked and needed to see someone else like me!
I’m overweight and am recovering from ankle surgery. I used to do a lot of running but can’t run anymore (surgeon’s instructions). I restarted intermittent fasting and my Keto heathy eating, I’ve also started 30 minute HIIT workouts on my exercise bike. I’m already down 12lb in 30 days and am feeling great! You are an inspiration and I’m so pleased to hear of your success. I’ll get back on my cross trainer in the next few weeks which is a bit like running. All exercise is positive . Thank you for sharing your journey 💕
Sounds like you’re doing a great job! Well done 🙌🏼 HIIT training is hard work!! I struggle with it 😆 Yes all exercise is definitely positive ❤️ Thank you for your kind comment.
So encouraging Lucy. Thank you for posting. I am 73, morbidly obese and I have a large kidney tumour, and severe sleep apnea, and lymphodaemia. I also had heart surgery three years ago, and just for good measure I have been totally blind in one eye for three years, and have a cataract in the other eye. Amazingly, thank the Lord, I am not in any pain, but going to sleep when I lie in bed is a problem because my nose gets blocked up, and I have to wear a CPaps mask to keep me breathing, which is not at all comfortable. My sister-in -law warned me that if I don't lose weight I may well have a stroke or a heart attack, and I know she's right. One of my problems with diet and exercise has been that I start enthusiastically but when I don't see results I get discouraged and disheartened after a few weeks. Your message about not quitting is a very strong one! Just what I needed to hear! Perseverance is the essential ingredient in the mix, and you have demonstrated that clearly! I shall, I promise you, be starting again today, and I shall be going for a walk this evening, and every evening from now on, till I lose the eight stone that have to come off! I shall also be saying goodbye to sugar, such as chocolate and cakes, and keeping the carbs low! I wish you and your husband and dear little one/s, and your lovely dog, many blessings from the Lord. You are a STAR!!!!
I’m so happy you found my video and it’s helped encourage you to start. Take it day by day and one step at a time. If you don’t get it right one day it doesn’t mean it’s a fail, it’s just part of the process 😀 I really wish you all the best! I believe in you and I’m rooting for you 🙌🏼 Thank you for your kind words!
@@lucyshawvlogs Lucy, I have saved your video to my Playlist. If I ever feel discouraged I will play it, and I know it will prevent me from giving up. I'll make a date in my diary and I will give you an update in six months (if the Lord hasn't taken me before then). Many thanks and many blessings to you and all your loved ones xxxx
aweee THANKYOUUUUUU I NEEDED THIS SO MUCH im about to start a weightloss fitness journey. I have a secret goal of being able to run a half or even a pipe dream of a full marathon. Currently out of breath walking for 5 minutes. so proud of you !!!
Wow! I just had to say THANK YOU! Thank you SO MUCH for this video! Your advice was awesome and inspiring to me. I've been wanting to get started on a running program for quite a while now been putting it off because of fears and personal insecurities, but I am lacing up my trainers now to go on my first run, thanks to you! 🙏
I’ve been watching quite a few of these kinds of videos but yours is by far the most enjoyable, authentic and helpful one by a country mile! So thank you for that and keep on pushing!!
That is such a lovely thing to say! I really appreciate it, thank you 🙌🏼😀
Agreed 100%! Very relatable and relaxed :)
@@lucyshawvlogslove your video ❤
I completely agree. I needed this
"You should work on yourself. Do it. Do it quietly. Don't be loud about it. Just do it in the background." THISSSSSS.
I remember the first time I did a 5minute run no stopping. I cried buckets there in the field.
Started at 230 pounds now at 180! ITS POSSIBLE DONT GIVE UP.
How long did it take you to get there?
@@9melissal I started in June 2022 completely cut sugar and focused on protein (calorie deficit), walked 20 minutes a day until I felt strong enough to run 30 seconds. also, I ran my first 10K last week!
It's been the best few months.
did your knees hurt a lot when you started? what did you do to recover?
good on you sweetie to cool proud of you keep going dont give up im on a weight loss journey too......its hard but im going to keep going God bless 😊
I cant run more than 2 minutes if i continue the speed would be so slow
Any suggestion?
"You just did a 5k" meant the world to a woman who wanted to be everything to her family. That IS emotional and it is also wonderful! Way to go lady!
even though you commented this a year ago im very happy to have read this! i am 17 and around the same weight you were. my mom was a teen mom, very heavily influenced by the toxic diet cultures of the 2000s and pushed it on to me as a child which led to me developing 'binge eating disorder', im still healing my relationship with food. your story is very inspiring to me! thank
you🫶
How’s it going now?
@@TheKotchykusI had the same experience and then found the None 2 Run program which is really great for beginners. I can highly recommend it.
You are an inspiration :D. Keep on rocking.
I’m watching this whilst on my treadmill 😊😊😊 I’m 250 lbs and have worked my way up to running 17 minutes it is possible! Thanks for the video
How you doing now??
I had three goals:
1. Run a minimum of 3 times per week
Please don’t give up because you think you can’t, I gave up time and time again and I’m so thankful for pushing through
Wow you have done amazing! Well done 💪🏼
How far you running now? Nice progress!
I just got to the point I can run 30 minutes straight. The progress is slow but present. You are so inspiring!
Remember that feeling when you first realized you did a 5k and be just as proud of yourself when you finish your first marathon. You are doing amazing! You advice at the end was perfect and the best way to transform.💗
I can not wait to experience finishing a marathon, I think I would cry! Haha. That you so much, you’re so kind 💕
You've told the story I need to hear. So honest. Thank you!
Well im not a runner but i can power walk almost 5 miles in an hour.
“Do it quietly” Love this! To all those out there putting in miles (or km’s) I see you and you are changing yourself one step at a time. The race doesn’t go to the swift but the steady! Just looking up and seeing that I’ve been running for 20 years. #worthit
Wow! I am 230 pounds right now and miss the feeling of running SO bad, so hearing someone who used to be my size did it is so inspiring!
I do think I am a bit more fit than you were, though. I go on 45 minute - 1 hour walks now with relative ease. Obviously not as easy as if I were skinny, but still.
That’s a great start! I started with walking and now I’m running marathons 🙌🏼 You’ve got this! I’m rooting for you 🏃🏻♀️
Great video!
Love that! Yes WHEN not if! Can’t wait for that comment 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I’m totally rooting for you ❤️
Keep going 🤗consistency is key to achievement
I'm going to try your idea, thank you
Sounds like you’ve had a tough time of it. Go steady and be patient, you will get there 😀🙌🏼
Hi Lucy, this video appeared in my recommended videos and it came at just the right time.
Cheers. 👍🏻
That's awesome! You sound really inspiring, an IronMan is insane! All the best with your training :)
Sounds like you have done amazing, well done 💪🏼 Thanks for your support 😀
Walking is hugely underrated.
I know exactly how you feel. I’ve found what works for me are UA-cam videos. There are dozens of beginner low impact exercises.
You're awesome 🥰
I'm a bit different from you: used to be fit, now fat and old.
This got me emotional. I love it so much. Thanks!
Also, COMPLETELY AGREE on the “if I’d started outside to begin with…” :)
I rarely touch the treadmill now, but I’ve thought about it in these unusually H-O-T over 100 (for months now) temperatures!
Well done!
When she said "I could only manage 25 seconds..." I FELT that!!!😂😂😂😂
I decided to make a life change August 25th and at 256lbs tried to jump straight back on the treadmill at the gym at the speeds I used to do when I fitter.
Where’s the fun in knowing you can do it!! It’s going to feel even more amazing when you do it 🥳 You got this!
Let's do this 💪
You’ve got this!! 💪🏼🙌🏼
Inspiring.
232lbs now... just bought a pair of running shoes today. I LOVED your story! It is the most relatable i've heard :) Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy your new trainers 🙌🏼🏃🏻♀️
This is literally me right now. Tried day 1 of couch to 5k, cried because of my inability. But going to keep at it one way or another so this video is really inspiring 💗
I have watched like 7 or 8 videos talking about how to start, and this is definitely the one I will come back to again. Thank you!
Thank you so much 😊 This is why I make the videos I do and I’m happy my channel found you ❤️
Your storytelling is amazing, you are absolutely an inspiration. I just started walking regularly and now want to start running.
This is the most relatable video I've ever watched about running. I'm starting this journey right now and it really helped. Thanks for that.
Put body glide in a Fanny pack on runs!)
Thanks for posting this
This is the most realistic story of adult athletics I've ever seen on youtube!!
You still did a half marathon distance, regardless of how much you walked and that's awesome! Well done on your weight loss too :)
I needed to hear this. Today was my first day, and it was SO HARD, but the small accomplishmentfelt so good. Thank you so much for the motivation and encouragement! I am going to keep going, even when it gets hard!
You're a rock star. Well done Lucy. What an inspirational woman you are. Thank you.
That’s so kind!! Thank you 😀😀
I love this video!
This is definitely the story I needed to hear! Thanks!
Happy it found you 😀🙌🏼
I’m overweight and am recovering from ankle surgery.
I’m so happy my video found you! That’s amazing that you’re getting out there and doing it. Go out there and smash it! 🙌🏼
I needed this video exactly. I'm currently 134kg, looking to run a half marathon in 11 months. Wish me luck!
Amazing! Good luck 🙌🏼💪🏼
