I still have my physical library of games for my Sega Saturn and Dreamcast. If I do find a console at my local thrift shop, maybe I'll attempt this mod.
Saturn game prices are escalating every day. The SD is a good solution. Fenrir modchip is afordable and easy to install. Satiatoris expensive but even more easy to use, and it could be upgraded. I love my small collection of games but I will not pay 200-400 eur for a game . Thanks for the video!
I've have a remedy for scratched discs. I occasionally hand polish discs using microfibre cloths and all purpose house polish like Mr Sheen or Pledge. A thing that contributes a lot to the failing disc drives are bad PSU's. I've noticed it's a fairly common phenomenon with Saturns. I've already had to swap the laser a couple of times on mine. If you're using the original PSU it can be good to check the 5V and 12V rails from time to time, but a recap or a replacement PSU like the ReSaturn is probably the best futureproofing you can do.
I'm not sure if I'd heard of the Phoebe. When I got my Saturn last year, we recapped the machine and tuned the laser, but I opted to go with the mod chip so I can burn discs. So far it's working out but I'm thinking about getting a spare laser assembly. Not exactly as convenient as an ODE but I'm enjoying it and it was the cheaper option to get started.

So I think the Saturn is really good, especially the lasers of my Sega CD and Saturn work more than well, although the KOnsols really have many years under their belts. With my Dreamcast it looks unfortunately different, I had 5 pieces in the years, 4 have given up the ghost, but the 5 is an attic find bought from a friend who needed money^^ But my luck is rarely played with the laser apparently still being in very good condition, cleaning laser disk by running and now it plays pretty much everything I have in my collection J NTSC or Pal krin problem with the CD X disc. Can I play everything there is with it, even Chan Mue runs and that's the number 1 KIller for every old Sega Dreamcast^^
I've had to 3d print a lot of case caps for my Saturn game cases. I've replaced my laser once before, I was looking for if there was a cooling mod pre existing like the noctua fan mod for the Dreamcast but haven't found any. I guess applying heat spreaders to parts might improve the many chips that overheat. But finding a way to make a external power supply like the Dreamcast mod would be best way to do this but even that has issues.
