Working small or with non-precise tools is very freeing I find. Love your portraits and the gorgeous colors of these crayons and your enthusiasm and love for teaching. Thank you!
I wonder if you have time to look at comments. Sigh. Those of us who admire you and enjoy your optimistic work in journals can't help but want to at least acknowledge that we are inspired and finding joy in your work. Even though I didn't watch this until a month later. I do follow your blog and then I spin off and watch your videos too. Always fun. Thanks for doing this and we all want you to know that we indeed are watching and sketching along.
I’ve started doodling pics of my friends, so this is a great companion video. Would love to try portraits using crayons as you have here. Agree, drawing faces is very fun and addictive. I’ll be sure to keep a sketchbook nearby for the next Zoom call. Thanks for your videos!
How delightful! I am doing this today with my class - "class portraits"! I teach neurodiverse adults, Hope Center for the Arts, who are remarkably talented! Still "Zoom-ing" it is the perfect platform to draw each other. Thank you!
@@juliefordreister I never hear of anything to help neurodiverse adults. Glad to hear there is something out there. Is everyone officially diagnosed or are some self-diagnosed? Seems like everything is geared to children
What a great start to the morning. I love your DTTs. This idea is so entrancing and, to be honest, I haven't used crayons since I was in primary school. I'm going to buy some today 😁🖍🖍🖍
The cheap ones are great fun, but if you want really bright colors and a ‘buttery’ feeling on the page, then look into the Caran d’Ache Neocolor wax crayons. They have a line of water resistant ones and a line of watersoluble crayons.
I hate oil pastels, but after seeing your work, I might give it another try. Thanks for sharing. Just a point though, doesn't sharpening the crayons lose a lot of the crayon.
Hi, Koosje! I'm so glad I found your channel! I admire your work at Sketchbook School and UA-cam has indicated this video - of course now Im a new follower! :D Big hugs from Italy! :D XOXO Marcelo
Neocolor crayons from Caran d’Ache have brighter colors and feel “greasier” than crayolas. Neocolor I are water resistant, Neocolor II are watersoluble and come in many more colors.
More videos like this :) the portraits are amazing, i also liked those landscapes you showed.
I love how you use the minimal amount of lines and create so much character in each of these.

Thank you Ginny! I really appreciate it. I indeed take time to look at comments - and respond! Great to know you feel inspired and enjoy my work.
Wonderful! Great fun - thank you Koosje (love your hair style at the moment btw).
This is truly cool fun! Thanks for the video👍
Glad you enjoyed it!

Crayons! Yaaay!
Great ideas of specifically looking up “eccentric portrait” and going through the family photo album.
Thanks for all you do
I love all those little faces! In my head, each one has there own voice
I’m going to try this with my watercolour pencils :)
Have fun!
So talented!
I have the NeoColor II crayons and they mostly sit in a drawer but now you’ve given me a super fun reason to bust them out, thank you!
Maybe I will even use some water w them for added effect since they are water soluble!
Have fun!

You can also not sharpen your crayon if you prefer so.
I love it! Did you show your characters to your collegues in the meeting? Hartstikke leuk Koosje, dank je!
I could and would have, if it would have been appropriate but it wasn’t so I didn’t.

Thank you for following!!
If that was what art is like I wouldn't have to put in any effort.
That IS what art is like.
For those of you who have tried it, how do neo 2 crayons compare to old fashioned Crayola crayons?
Neocolor crayons from Caran d’Ache have brighter colors and feel “greasier” than crayolas.
Neocolor I are water resistant, Neocolor II are watersoluble and come in many more colors.
Having said that: just have fun with the crayons you have!
