Thanks for the video. When I ordered a oil filter for my Buick I ordered what was listed in the owners manual. My Buick is like yours and needs the 2263 oil filter not the one listed in the manual. Thanks again for taking the time to point that out. I think that is important information that should be listed in the manual. The manual does not mention the difference between the two types oil filters and caps or how to tell the difference. Great job....
You are such an angel! Wiping the cap with rag to reveal "UFI" was critical. I could not see the UFI logo without wiping it. Then I took a digital photo with a flashlight aimed at the cap. THEN, was I able to confirm clearly it is UFI. Whew 😅. You are hilarious about your favorite part is getting under.... 🤣🤣🤣. Also greatly appreciated showing the manual was wrong.... 🤔 Glad I didn't read the manual first.... Would have been totally confused. Ordered the UFI filter on Amazon, will keep to show future oil change technicians if they don't have the right one.... Thank you for explaining and filming this so well. 💐
Thank you so much! I got a used one of these and needed to figure out how to change the oil after changing the oil on a Chevy for years. Thanks a million!
I just enjoy the entire video, literally you showed me how to perform the oil and filter change on my buick encore, very well explained, detailed, super helpful, awesome introduction, jajaj you got me on that jajaja, thank you so much brother 1000%
Thank you like you said not all oil change places know the difference my wife experienced it was leaking oil the owner of the shop saved the spring and made it right I've decided that I not paying $100.00 bucks for a oil change Thanks again
The oil changes on our 2019 Buick Encore were around $100 but I started doing them myself over a year and a half ago. My 2017 Toyota Highlander had the first 2 years of oil service included and the next few were under $90 ( 5.5 litres of synthetic a filter and the checked fluids tires, visual brake check etc. ). The next two times I went, the price had jumped to $150- $175 so I started doing it myself. My wife got a 2024 Toyota Rav 4 and oil changes for the first two years aren’t included plus they charge over $220 for and oil change.
My Encore also shows the wrong filter in the manual. Worse yet, is that I took it to a garage for the previous oil change. This garage used the wrong filter without the check valve. This is one reason why I always prefer to do my own oil changes.
So I'm just changing my mom's oil in her 2018 Encore. The dealer has done the past few oil changes. I had researched prior and found the info on the oil filter and ordered the right one for the UFI. Just pulled the old filter and found it to be the Hengst without the spring on top, so of course I'm thinking I ordered the wrong one. Pull up this vid and I definitely got the right one. So the Buick dealer put the wrong one in before, probably each time! They also had over filled her oil one time, thankfully she didn't make it too far before it died. They supposedly checked it all over when they redid her oil change but now I question everything. So word to the wise, do your own oil changes!
I am thinking that the one housing has the bypass valve built into it and the other relies on the filter valve and spring. I think (of course this is my opinion) that if the oil changes are done and filter does not get plugged to need the bypass you would be ok. Also, the wrong filter does not seem to fit 100 % and has a tendency to get crushed a little which could mean a small amount of unfiltered oil may pass through. It’s of my opinion it should be fine. Mine has had the wrong filter installed in the past and the engine suffered no noticeable damage. Thanks for the question!
Check the alphabetical section on the last few pages of the owner’s manual. Look under C for capacities. I have the LUV engine and mine uses the other filter ( the on3 without the spring loaded top. How confusing is that? Mine’s a 2019 so maybe that’s something different they did.
You're right. It is super confusing. The only way to know what filter you have is by the cap on the oil filter housing. Not in a book or a service manual. It's kinda crazy!
You know what,,,,, I’m not even sure that the dealer used the right oil filter during the “ first two years of free included oil changes”. When I started doing it myself I bought the oil filter at a GM dealership and they gave me the one without the anti drain back valve. The one I took out matched but that was put in by the dealership when they did the previous “ free” oil change. So your oil cap said UFI ??? On it and that’s the one with the spring loaded valve? So if mine says Hengst on it I’ve been using right filter ( the one with no valve ) and if the cap says UFI the dealership on the first 3 oil changes and myself on the last 3 ( first two filters bought from the dealership ) have been using the wrong filter? Great a $29,000 “ mistake “ if this thing is screwed up.
Very informative video!! Quick question my wife's vehicle has 35,000 should I use 5w-30 or different grade. Also what happens when the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles what type of oil should I use?
Thanks for watching. I personally would not switch the grade of oil in this particular engine regardless of mileage. Especially if you're still under the factory powertrain warranty. My suggestion, stay with what is known for the vehicle.
I just did the oil change very easy following your instructions thank you so much! Also I noticed the dealership used the wrong oil filter.. Lastly... after how many millage do you replace the oil ?
I would strongly discourage this however, I would think it’s a direct replacement part but personally would probably not venture down that path unless there are other factors I’m not aware of. It appears from the catalogue listing to be interchangeable if purchased from the dealer and comes with everything that would be required. Thanks for asking the question!!
I’m not entirely sure but my thought is the seal of the filter in the housing and the cap is so tight towards the end of the threads that it twists the filter a bit at the end. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video the dealership put the wrong filter in! So i have the ufi and got the right filter drained it filled it put filter in and now when i stop it says low oil pressure? Any ideas i mean it has 26k miles on it
Whoa!! Something is very wrong there and I would definitely not drive it like that. If this only started after you did the oil change, something is not right. Filter brand, filter not snapped into the cap properly, wrong filter in the box, cap not seated correctly, wrong grade of oil, low on oil, major oil leak, filter got twisted during install and may be in by pass mode now….So many factors here. If you have verified all the above and still have factory powertrain warranty I would get it to the dealer ASAP.
ours has no cap or canister. ours takes a fully contained metal spin on filter. it is accessed from the bottom of the engine. 2016 1.4 liter encore. ??
Yes it is possible to have a spin on oil filter on the 2016 model. Rare but possible. There are 3 different engine codes for your model. GM classifies them by RPO code. Your engine would be the LE2. The ones like mine that takes the cartridge filter are the LUJ and LUV. Thanks for watching.
@@truthteller8274 we had really liked ours. What is it about your experience that makes you not like it. I’m curious. Is it was the brakes we had issues with.

My theory is that it was a last minute change for states with different emissions requirements.

Right on!!! Now I can tell my wife I AM helpful lol. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you for the video. From the looks of the oil, every 5000 or 5 months would be a good cycle.
More changes can’t hurt. Thanks for watching ! :)
That video was so good. You make everything look so easy. Great job filming and editing.
Thanks for this great video. The parts at the dealership was no help at all. Love the close ups and the explaination.

This happens all the time. My first oil change they out the wrong filter in mine as well.

How stupid is it, that it could be 1 of 3 filters???? Thanks for the info.
It’s nuts. Thanks for the comment.
Some have black and brown caps.
I have seen a brown cap recent. More like a light brown.
Don’t cover the text people need to read with your thumb.
