I have no good reason to watch this as I never intend to do this job on my vehicle, but I just like Eric's methodical way of doing things and his dad humor.
I know how to do and have done many many of the things I’ve watched Eric do. I watch because Eric has such a way about him, his methodical way of getting to the solution that I still have to watch. He has a wicked sense of humor and specializes in sarcasm. This beats watching tv hands down!
Daym. That Brit in the “Rent Me RV” is one dedicated SMA fan to cross the pond on a vaca and detour through Avoca PRNY just to say “Hey mate, Bob’s your Uncle”. 🧐🇬🇧💂♀️🍺 Hopefully you signed his SMA hoodie. 🤩
I love the way Eric O says "it has the big...engine." I laugh every time because they are never ever larger than 3.5 liters. In my youth I spent 6 months making sure that engine was properly dropped into the frame during final assembly at the Oldsmobile factory in Lansing. The "big" Rocket Engine was a 7.5 liter V8. Yes my children that is NOT a typo, it was 7.5 liters (455 cu in). It was rated at 370 hp at 5,200 RPM and 500-lb.ft. of torque at 3,600 RPM. In the Toronado it delivered 7.5 miles to the gallon. Ah those were the days.
I have the big 8.1 in my 2006 chevrolet! I know Eric O would love to see it, but he's not a fan of out of towners. I don't blame the guy, after all he has a business to run
Used to work at a dealership back in the 70s. On good days a mechanic would get into a place that was full of let's say, passion for the job! And talking back and forth to the mech in the next bay . It would sometimes sound like a romance novel. Well at some point it would spread all the way to the seventh bay . And then the whole shop would be going on about how deep sockets and long drives were used! That is what keeps you going back to work day in day out. If you listen and don't watch it can be a whole different video. Thanks Eric O. bringin' back to the days.
Great video! No 15 minute monologue about your childhood or other irrelevant information. To the point, no skipped steps, and entering! Great video! Now, I just hope the process is the same for a 2020 Encore GX 🤞
God bless you Eric. You are a wonderful family man, your wife and yourself get to spend your great and not so great days together. That’s a true blessing. You are an amazing technician with some added humor, we all love it brother. Keep up the videos, the wonderful work and being honest. There’s no one better.
Exactly. I'd said that to Eric O before. - He worries that the videos are boring but I had a vehicle that needed brakes and bearings - his detail was so great I was able to do it myself and saved over $1,300.00 bucks. It was a life-saver.
bought mine off my grandparents a lil less than a year ago, which they used to take it to someone to get this done. but i’m young and wanna learn, this video was perfect!
These videos have been great for me. I just bought a 2014 Buick Encore premium with only 40000 miles on it like 4 months ago. Never seen rear calipers like that so I'm looking forward to this video. Seriously thank you so much for all the videos you post. You and Ivan have literally saved me thousands of dollars over the years by sharing your experiences. Stay safe, God bless and NEVER grow up. Haha
Watching your brake job videos have helped me so much in getting better at doing my own brakes. No more scraping noises, and I’m always putting permatex on the places you do. I’ve also adopted the practice of using fluid film on the hub assembly. I’ve learned a lot from your wheel bearing videos as well, busting out my own version of big nasty to break her loose but I’ve had luck with a slide hammer so I didn’t have to employ the nut and bolt method. Thanks again Eric.
Eric, I'm glad I had to get out of the repair industry back in the mid nities. Watching techs having to spend a lot of time removing plastic parts / covers just to see the area they need to get to do the repair. I know now at my age I wouldn't have the patience things would. Be flying.
When you work in a shop environment you do what you have to. Get it done to fix the problem is what you are trying to achieve. You are way more thorough than other mechanics I've seen. I worked at a shop that was all about are you done yet I have another one.
Eric has the luxury of not working "flat-rate", that encourages most techs to slam through jobs with no cars about what it requires to do the invoiced job.
@@mattmanyam even in a flat rate environment you need to fix the problem. Not give the customer a bs reason that you can't figure it out. The shop I worked in got alot of jobs that other shops couldn't figure out because they didn't know what they were doing or just collected on so called diagnostic work.
@@CigarsnWhiskey that certainly wasn't intended as a "shot" at you, personally, and I apologize that you took it that way. I was just lashing out at my general contempt for that aspect of the industry. I should have made myself clearer.
@@mattmanyam apology accepted. It's hard to do the job at hand versus the shop you work for. There are good shops that want to help the the customer and bad ones that just want that diagnostic money.
thank you sir! i have a 2020 encore gx and its cheaper for me to replace them myself right now. this video helped a lot and one of my homies is gonna help me incase i get stuck. i love your style man made everything to follow along super easy!
So you were talking to a bloke from the UK about mushy peas, fish and chips and black pudding. I'm British and stuck in the Bahamas and would kill for some of that!! I really enjoy your channel
Must have been a northerner. Most southerners don't know what black pudding is, and those that do don't like it. (For our American readers, black pudding is essentially a sausage skin filled with dried blood and bits of fat. Delicious with bacon and eggs !! )
Someone mentioned you and I took a look and liked what I saw and heard to I liked and subscribed! I'll be watching more, thank you for the vid. and commentary, I will be watching more of your videos.
I thought the mini, non-reverse light issue was funny too... could see as soon as you started taking it out, that it was a fog light... small cars often have 1 reverse, 1 fog. I had no idea what you were planning to test, at one point I thought you were going to get the fog light working off the switch... 🤣 I do, however, learn a lot of other stuff from your videos... Some of it pretty useless, as I don't live in America or drive an American (or Japanese) car. A brake job's a brake job right enough. Very few differences when it comes to a lot of the basics. Especially with how rusty cars get in NY and here in Scotland.
'My love glove'.... Eric O always with the inueldo on any job. Then... Wait for it... After applying an ample amount of Super Lube using his Love Glove, he fumbles the part. Almost spit out my coffee on that one. So far, your one of few, that can make a simple brake job entertaining. Ya done good son.
Why do You make working on gm vehicles so easy, just about every repair I seen You do was almost identical to mine and not one has been as easy for Me.🤯 You are simply the best mechanic I have ever seen on daily drivers.
i was raised in mid Michigan and i was taught most things u do where u are i live in Arkansas now i still do same as you show on brakes here i feel it a good practice for every brake job
A one-time, tiny......persuasion of movement of that line is no problem. Anyone who has a problem with that technique just needs to consider that as "work hardening" that line. Great video.
From a rust belter service approved!! I have done spells, potions and some heat and that bleeder will always snap clean off. Never, never, never ever touch or even look at the bleeder. Beer me!
I knew a guy who left a caliper hanging by the brake hose when he went to lunch. When he came back, he quickly realized his mistake, and went back to the break room to get his last piece of pizza out of the microwave. He vowed never to make that mistake again.

I don't even own a car but I enjoy Eric's videos very much and watch them all.
I love to learn and really like his attitude.
Watching from Scotland, always appreciate a shout out to those of us on the other side of the pond.
You have created a new tourist spot in town.
Even though the bar for excellence has risen over the years, Eric's brake videos remain at the top. I never fail to learn just a little bit more.
That's cool that a traveler from the U.K. wanted to stop and visit with Eric O. And it was nice of Mr. O. to oblige.

And it weighed almost 3 tons.

Always along for a brake job! Surprised we haven't seen any AC services/Fixes lately given that it's summer time!
