    Dave, I just got an Niche Zero to go with my Lelit Elizabeth and your videos have helped me with both products so much. I so appreciate your methodical approach and the care you take to research and explain things clearly. You are an oasis of calm and knowledge and that has given me such confidence. Thank you so very much.

    Great video Dave - nice to see how easy it is to remove the burrs

    Have you got a comparison to another grinder aimed at the same market segment. I use a modified RR45 at home, it probably retains a couple of grams! Which reminds me I need to clean it again.

    Hi Dave, thank you for this informative video. I have some trouble getting the inner burr out. It might be due to build up of coffee grinds / potentially hardened grinds. Wondering if you have any tips in getting the inner burr out? Thank you in advance!

    Hi Dave thanks for your review. Can you tell me what material the sweep arms are made from and do they rub against the base of the chamber? thanks

      I think they were some kind of highly polished aluminium alloy.

    Hi Dave, do you lubricate the threads of the hopper? If so, do you have a recommended product and would you be able to detail the best way to apply it?
    Mine is getting a tad resistant and feel like turning it is almost continuing the damage, though, I'd also be a little concerned about the propensity for the lubricant to attract, stick and build coffee fines over time...

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 роки тому

      Just a light smear of silicone lube, or a foodsafe ptfe dry lube.

    Hi Dave, I've seen many Niche user videos refer to a "breast pump" plunger they use as a bellows on the Niche. I believe it is actually a "palm chest percussion cup" to help loosen phlegm for infants. Have you seen that and what are your thoughts?

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 роки тому +1

      I think if it makes them feel better fair enough...as probably less than 0.3g of coffee exchanges each time you grind...which is about 1 coffee bean..it's sort of pointless and once you start doing it, you probably feel you want to keep doing it. Just using the Niche as the manufacturer intended works perfectly well, and you won't taste the difference.

    Mine is having this weird issue where the outter bur is scraping against the wall of the grinder isnt the metal part. I can tell its doing this because the color is scraped off on the inner bur and I hear a this weird slight sound when I turn off the grinder. It recently starting doing this!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 роки тому

      I don't think the power down noise is anything to be worried about. The outer burr has to touch the inner wall at some point and when the grind is made coarser or finer a witness mark will be left on the wall of the grinder. If this is what you mean I don't believe you have a problem. If you are still concerned I suggest you contact Niche and see what they say and also if you want reassurance about the noise. Don't forget to include some audio or video for them.

      Dave Corbey You told me exactly what Niche said. Thank you Dave! They told me that’s normal.

    i missed the start of the video, and feel a bit ill (that time of year), was the retention of 0.x grams for one day? or like several months

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  Рік тому

      It's a long time ago, but probably 2 weeks. Retention peaks after around 3 or 4 grinds, so really won't increase after weeks or months.

    I just cleaned Niche grinder and I was at 15 now at 22 setting after cleaning. Is this normal? I did calibrate the grinder. Espresso results are 18grams and 35 grams out in 26 seconds.

    interesting to see your left foot all the time -(( --- and what kind brush do you use, only to avoid the same brush;-(( and: what watch do you wear, also not to fail with the same watch model;-)))

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 місяці тому

      I like my left foot, almost as much as the right. The brush was whatever my hands first came upon, it's actually an oil painting brush. The watch is 24 years old now and is a Casio Tough Solar Waveceptor, never let me down, never been opened, still waterproof and has been all over the world with me. Best £40 I ever spent.. The fact I never have to set it, because it uses the atomic clock for date, time and location is a huge bonus, because I can't remember how and it has a 53 page user manual. I do have a few other watches, but this is my go to and on my wrist as I am typing this.

    I just got mine and i wasn't able to take the top burr off with my fingers. I thought i maybe needed to unscrew the nut thingy in the middle. I tried to with the tool i have available and it just looked like i was just turning the burrs underneath 😓 i hope i am not ruining it!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  4 роки тому +1

      Turning the burrs with the nut won't ruin anything. Once the silver funnel is removed the top burr simply lifts out. It can be hard to get a grip on it. I put 2 fingers in and apply outward pressure to grip the inside of the top burr, then pull it out.

      @@DaveCorbey Hi Dave. Things are going pretty well with my Niche. I installed the disc and it works even better. There's one thing I am nervous about, which is that I accidentally turned it on while it was practically on calibrate. It was only for a few moments. I haven't noticed any issues but I guess I am just looking for a bit more reassurance from an expert. Would there be any problem if this happens once or twice briefly? Also, how much past 0 can one go/how close to calibrated is okay? Mostly just curious at this point but would be nice to know I haven't damaged my Niche with my incompetence. Thanks for your patience in reading my questions! Kind regards.

      @@excellerateurbreath it will be fine don't worry. As for calibration, it's just to help you get the numbers shown for you grind level similar to others and get u started.

    This is a very different experience to mine where I am getting *far* more coffee retained than this even after 5-10 doses :(

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 роки тому

      I have no idea why that would be, unless you're using really oily beans. If not, try reaching out to Niche.

    With the amount of agitation going on during grinding there is no way of knowing if there is coffee exchanging in the niches, forgive the pun.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  4 роки тому

      You need to read my review of the grinder. I was able to test retention and exchange and come up with accurate figures.

    I love how anal everyone here is about retention.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  Рік тому

      I guess once you become aware of the effects and cost of wasted coffee, it's easy to understand why it's important. Even other manufacturers have started worrying about retention. Before we simply got scaled down versions of the commercial offerings, which were generally unsuitable for the prosumer user at home.
