      As I enjoy making them. Sometimes I do miss being able to just settle in with one of the great machines and just enjoy it..but there always something new or an exciting prototype. At least I have the pleasure of only reviewing what I like and find interesting. If I get a machine, grinder or roaster etc.. that's not good, I simply don't waste my time reviewing it. :)

    How can you single dose with this grinder if popcorning is taking place? With popcorning you should be getting channeling and if you're not I suspect that's because of the pressure profiling (starting slow and ramp up)

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  7 років тому +2

      Popcorning is almost always a whole bean bouncing out of the grinder before properly engaging with the burrs. The burrs move very slowly, so it's not a problem. The are not bouncing out as broken pieces. The pressure profiling machine actually requires a much finer grind than a normal machine and it needs a really good to perform well...it doesn't make it easier. I think you need to be aware that the slow speed is part of the reason this grinder does so well and whole bean popcorning (not even entering the burrs)is not really an issue.
      Chanelling is cause by a poor grind, not necessarily popcorning.

    • @TheCoffeeField
      @TheCoffeeField 7 років тому

      Dave Corbey interesting point. So basically what you're saying here is a lower RPM grinder is more suitable for single dosing than a higher RPM one. I'll look further into that. Thanks

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  7 років тому +2

      With 1 caviat, as long as it's a conical, flat burrs can grind slowly, but below certain speeds you get problems with bean feed and very long grind times.

    • @TheCoffeeField
      @TheCoffeeField 7 років тому

    Is that a Ceado E37S next to the NICHE????? Did you buy that before or after the NICHE? Overall, Looking at Mark Buchmans assessment on the E37S .... It is near ZERO Retention just like the NICHE. The difference is price and your workflow is very smart for the NICHE. Gonna do the same with my setup once I get the NICHE and ECM Synchronika. I can't remember if the one in the vid was the prototype, but I moved to a US model for long term test almost 1 year before the grinder was released. • @DaveCorbey

      I do drink Americanos from a mug and I prefer less than a sip of espresso. The real limit is of course the portafilter basket. That particular single has a ridge which means you can use any less than 11g or the tamper bumps up against the ridge and it won't tamp properly. There is no hard and fast rule on dosing, but most people up-dose a bit. Mignon is a good entry level grinder.
