14" Zildjian A New Beats vs. 14" Zildjian A Customs

- Опубліковано 20 тра 2016
- Both great sets of hats. New Beats have a larger difference between top hat and bottom hat weight. They also sit between the clean crispness of A Customs and the dark sizzley sound of the Ks.
New Beats for the win all day!!
Man, they just need to rename them classic beats. They’re so old school, have every you need, none can compete it’s ridiculous. Like a tailored black tux. It’s just something you have to have in your wardrobe.
I agree completely!👍
Simply great video. I can hear the difference so clearly!
I bet you can. You must be able to make out airplanes at 36'000 feet at night too.
@@TempoDrift1480 u can actually hear the difference tho
@@TempoDrift1480 goddamn, I can sense the douchebag energy radiating from this comment.
New Beat, by far!!!
I agree
Ditto!
I don't see where 1 is better. They both sound great. Just different. Some songs would be suited better for 1 and other songs suited better for the other. The New beats sounds like it would be better 8n a live setting and the other would definitely do better in a recording situation. The New Beat has more resonance for sure. So to someone unfamiliar with recording or studio settings or just not a lot of experience in musical sounds. That and putting together different sounds and resonance together for different situations might would assume 1 sounds better than the other. But that would be the same as saying a crash sounds better than a splash. However there is undesirable sounds like when you have very tin like sounds like on a very cheap symbol. So in that situation you could definitely say another sounds better. Those have a lot of unwanted vibrations and unwanted resonances that muddy the SQ. But if you have 2 quality symbols like in this situation 1 doesn't sound better than the other. It's just suited for different situations and music styles. But sound is also subjective. Like a lot of people who listen to headphones like Bass heavy headphones like Beats but these style of headphones are very muddy and a true audiophile wi pick up on that instantly. Those headphones sound great to most people. But audiophiles will notice the Bass is not true Bass and it tends to muddy the other mids and highs. But most people like the fake vibrating Bass that has been added with altercations. But then you have headphones like V-Moda that uses true Bass that is real punching hard Bass with no added vibrations and keeps the highs and miss and other instruments equal in the mix while still being desirable to Bass heads. If I was in a studio setting I would use the A if I was doing more songs that are not using much resonance from the hi hat. But if I was doing something more symbol forward like some musical or a song that had the treble forward or was doing more of a hip hop or R&B I would use the New Beat. Just my opinion though. There is no right or wrong way to like music. Some people like the sound of cheap symbols. Some bands made there living useing cheap instruments for there unique sounds. It's like cooking. Be creative and experiment and try your own stuff to be different. Some people try to learn by going by the rules and doing it by the book. When in reality it's ART! Be creative and don't be afraid to use whatever sounds good to you. Some people would be surprised if they threw all the books out the window and just made what they thought sounded good to them. I have a friend that does a lot of gigs in Nashville and plays in a few cover bands. He actually has a few drum sets that he mix matches brands. He will use a Tama Bass drum a pearl floor tom a Mapex floor tom then A tom from say DW and Yamaha Ludwig. He will throw together sets like this and even uses different styles of wood to get different sounds. That way he sounds like no other drummer. It actually sounds amazing.
Yeah there's no contest
@@buddybeavers2691 yeah your gonna have to shorten that if you want people to read it
New Beats are insane...I have a set of 15s and WOW.
I also have them in 15"! Love them!!
great comparison, you know how to compare two hats.
New beats = perfection
New Beats are just a classic sound ! great video - thanks !
When it comes to hats and especially crashes I think A custom Is 100 times better but I think most A custom rides lack a projective bell, nothing beats the A 21" sweet ride
the Brilliant finish 21’ sweet ride has the better bell by far.
I’m a Meinl guy and love my Meinl polyphonic ride but man I love my one and only zildjian cymbal which is the 21 inch A sweet ride.
@@andyham6094 Yes! I love that ride, perfect chrashability and it's such a musical ride as you get so many sounds depending on where and how you hit it. I've used it a lot the few times I've been in the studio and it's great to ride/crash on and pretty cutting bell if you hit it right.
Anything from Sabian does!
Best ride is the Paiste 20" signature dry ride. They don’t make them anymore so you might have a hard time getting one, but I definitely recommend listening to a demo of it on YT.
Exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks for the comparison vid!
A customs all day for me, I prefer the brighter tone.
New Beats and Plain K"s are the best sounding hats to me. For ride though its a 21 K sweet ride damn that is nice.
I am coming to that conclusion as well...that ride is a amazing!
This is how comparison videos should be done.
Yeah. With a phone camera that has gain overload? Are you kidding?
Well said ;)
I own about 4 pair of zildjian hats.and just picked up a set of near new 14 a custom hats.for a whopping 80 bucks.couldn't pass it up.Damn good deal.and I love the sound of them.I was gonna just resell them, but after playing them I'm going to be keeping them.and I can mix and match with my k mastersound hats too.
Mike Whitt Yeah, my pair in this video is a special pair, too. Got them in a set that had been used. The logos are fading and they have a ton of wear from use, but they just sound so good. I have sold off every other piece of that a custom set, but I'll keep these hats. They just have that "it" factor.
New Beat ftw
They are both great, but a more delicate stick on the open/close action would show the New Beats to be more musical and better for acoustic accompaniment. Still, the A Customs are a nice compromise for including corded instruments. I play in a lot of trios and quartets and the "less is more" way of playing favors the New Beats for lower volume. I use a very vintage (1966) set of Zildjian Avedis which are very thin with a pronounced bell and they sound very much like the New Beats. It would be nice to see different types of sticks and brushes in these hi hat demonstrations.
I prefer a customs 🤘🤘🤘
A Custom by a mile.
a custom is the best by far
I like the A custom hats a lot more. Mainly because they're a little more crisp and sound brighter.
A Zildjian series over the A Customs all day, e'ryday. My taste.
Danny 'Day - I completely agree.
Very nice comparison. Thanks!
New Beats! everything else dances around their concept. Kind of like the .30-06 cartridge.
love that comparison
I've got a pair of 70s new beats that i've been using for years. i rotate them out with some meinl byzance darks but for most situations i stick with the new beats. very versatile.
A set of 14" New Beats, a 16" and 18" Medium-Thin A Crash, and a 21" A Sweet Ride and you're ready for just about any rock gig. For heavier stuff upgrade to 15" New Beats, a 22" A Medium Ride, and add a 20" Medium-Thin Crash, and you're in like Flynn. Zildjian As are incredibly versatile.
New beats. Without a doubt.
Both sound amazing, but I think I prefer the New Beats
wooo, first one! right on! the a customs are my favorite out of these two. actually i think they're my favorite in the whole zildjian brand. well, those and maybe the a series mastersound. thanks for the video man, good job.
skwark56 thanks for the comment. I love my a customs. I have yet to play a set of a mastersound hats.
really helpful. thanks dude
New beats every day, I've tried them against loads of others , still prefer new beats
The first pair of new beats that I’ve heard that aren’t tanky and brassy sounding.
A custom hats hands down
New Beats! Classic.
I own 3 pairs of Zildjian hi hats. 1x 14" Z custom master sound, 1x 13" A series master sound, and 1x 13" K/Z special.
Bradley Harbin - Awesome! Can never have too many! 😉
@@RazeTheWeak Definitely. Especially when playing different styles of music
Sabian AAX Stage Hats for the win.
New Beats
I'm a bassist but I love this
I’ll be buying the customs
Both sound good
New beats just win by a small amount
I have both. I like the new beats a lot better then the custom A’s which sound like gongs. They’re too stiff. Both sets are very expensive.
This is the best comparison . 👍
They sound very very similar. Any of them is a good choice IMO.
Alhamdulillah, ada kemanisan dc2 tuan.
Mantiaeppp 👍
Hats I have are 14in A custom master sound 18in A custom armor crash 10in A custom splash 20in Planet Z ride all Zildjian sounds great
man's voice shook my table
New Beats for me!
A Customs for me!
New Beats Fo Sho!!!!
New Beats 💜!
Both sounded real good to me...
I've got 15" new beats - unmatched sizzle.
Vladimir Poutine I have 15s too. I like my 14s a bit more, but I haven't had an opportunity to play the 15s enough to make an accurate judgement. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I had the 14's previously but found the 15's had more character - Bigger high hats are more about preference though.
Vladimir Poutine I agree. I have some 15 k Lights that are my go to hats.
Customs still sound brighter, i would say the customs are closer to a paiste 2002 sound edge without the wash.
New beat sounds darker than the a
A Customs. The A Customs are usually the more recorded hi hats, and have the best studio sound.
Um... No. New Beats were around 50 years before A customs. Is today opposite day or something?
The A Customs have more of a brighter tone compared to the Zildjian A's.
new beat
O Custum tem uma sonaridade incrível
new beats i got them myself as well super defined
13 A Mastersound ☺️
Is the custom in the left? If so New Beat.
Electric guitar player here and new to drums. So the new beats I imagine are thicker? Sound darker? more suitable for rock and heavy rock and almost everything else? The A customs sound thin and light so more suitable for Jazz? My 8 year old son plays U2, Coldplay, GNR, MJ. So I'm guessing New Beat would be better for that application?
They are both extremely versatile. I almost get the feeling that the a custom model is a replica of the new beat, but with finer lathing and a brilliant finish. I think the a customs are great, but nothing beats the new beat sound. They are the most popular hi hat ever made for that very reason.
Well, it's always a matter of taste but I wouldn't say the A customs are jazz oriented at all. The New Beats though, are been used by jazz drummers for a while. They were in fact designed by Louis Bellson/Zildjian, but they result so versatile that they can perfectly suit for a wide variety of genres, including most of rock styles and variations. However it ain't frequent a jazz drummer playing with A Custom hats, they're quite bright, even harsh sometimes, and that's something jazzers don't usually like so much, so they're mostly used for rock and other styles that requires some "cut".
But it's all a matter of preferences at the end of the day; I play mostly rock and my favourite hi hat is being the 15" K light for some years now... To be honest, I like A custom crashes but not the hi hats or rides at all.
well, now i know which one to get... both.
Hey nice video...anyone ever try a new beat top and an a custom bottom? Might sound like k / z ' s but a little quieter perhaps?!
What about A custom mastersounds OMG
is Phil Ansepmo talking?
Zildjian A best
New beat. Has more of a frizzy sound.I wish they would start offering regular A in the Brilliant finish again. A sound with A custom finish.
They sound a little different when they're brilliant.
This man sounds like a robot!
I guess I don't see the point in doing this with a phone camera. It just sounds like everything is under water. Is there an official audio track for the video? I understand the process of recording so that's why I ask.
Honestly, I initially filmed them just for myself. Didn’t have any recording equipment, nor did I know anything about how to go about doing it any other way than besides my phone. Since then I have accumulated many more cymbals as well as upgrading to a professional recording setup. I have been tossing around the idea of redoing these comparisons, but as you might understand, it’s a lot of work and a huge time commitment. Maybe one day. Until then, maybe someone can benefit from these. Cheers!
New beat is dry and sharp ... The custom is very full and shiny.
the a customs are more for rock and the new beats are better for metal
New beat is THE HI HAT
How strange...The A Customs are clearly a darker sounding set of hats in all uses, except the chick. The Chick of the A Custom is actually brighter than the New Beat. Wild.
Wow !!!!!
I prefer the New Beats
the A being so close to the wall
New beat
The newbeats are better in my opinion, but what I'd love to hear is this man narrate a nature documentary
Traditional cymbals or brilliant?
I like the New Beats better.
New beat but i do like a custom crashes
New Beat.
👍👍👍👍👍
Paiste 2002 Sound Edge 🙂
He sound like a higher voice corpse
A custom sounds much better!
But why zildjian
Me gusta más el New Beats.
A customs
Customs sound better here, not as bonky, but neither of them hold a candle to Ks in my opinion. Ks are the best cymbals on the market to me.
00:41 pokemon
New beats by far but ill take 2002 paist sound edge sorry my opinion
I love the advedis ones better I have a advedis a custom flat ride 20 inch and it’s dope
Quick beats
My 1st pair of hi hats were new beats....I didn't like them. Clangy when opened up a little. Bark was soft....A customs by far.
really? this is like, comparing apples to .....slightly shinier apples from 30 feet , they be indistinguishable
Left one ıs better
Screw zodiac signs witch one you pickin
bro you must have 2 left feet!
Not much in it. Beats are a little darker.
New beats by a country mile. The A customs sounded too tinny and lacked any body.
Expensive hihats? So why cheapo..naf clutches..
