I've been drumming for like ten years, just rock stuff, and never ever mastered the double stroke. I can't get the hang of using the fingers, at all. Can't blast beat or anything - I'm all wrists and arms! This was a really great lesson, feel like it's the lesson I've been looking for for years. Cheers! Wish you were my teacher!
creating good doubles is indeed not easy and there are many people who explain how to do it through youtube, but there are few who explain it as well and simply as you! thanks i keep looking and as always your enthusiasm is very motivating
Great explanation Mike. I definitely related way more to your explanation than any other video I’ve watched. I do take lessons up here in the north but my teacher isn’t really covering stick technique yet and whilst I’m trying to run before I can walk in some ways, I’m finding that as a new very middle aged drummer I need a bit more help at an earlier stage with my wrists. I’ve got the wrist movement down ok and don’t use my elbows for stockings but it can hurt some so learning finger control a little earlier might help with that.
Thanks a lot for this! I've been trying to get the hang of this technique and there are a lot of videos out there that are like "I'm gonna show you once how to do this and get to exercises", your video let me finally understand what's actually supposed to be going on here :)
I’m a newbie both drummer and subscriber, so hello - I like your style. The single stroke roll is fine, I can do the paradiddle albeit it slowly but the double stroke roll is my nightmare - I drop the stick, I can use my fingers to snap up, I can reverse the stick up my arm. I practice on the pad and the snare but I can’t get that free bounce Mike. It just ends up as a speedy single roll. Only twelve weeks in, am I being too impatient? 🇦🇺✌️
Hey brother, I am a new drummer. I started playing about two years ago and I practice every single day. My doubles are stuck at a out 170pbm 16ths using push pull. Is there any advice you can give me for pushing the speeds?
Thanks Evgeny! Double stroke pad video is here: ua-cam.com/video/aExIbDQDGSs/v-deo.html And yes indeed, I agree about sound! - have improved this quite a bit in the last year since this was published - check out my more recent videos. Also TONS more improvements in production values soon as the channel grows thanks to you guys' support. Stay tuned! Mike :)

Hi Mike, is this the same technique as push n pull? I seem to be struggling with this particular my left hand.

Makes a change from Boris Becker/Bill Burr/Ed Sheeran/Hank Scorpio/Price Harry/Johnny Bairstow/any other ginger haired man. Thanks for watching :)
Best video out there, but you need to play on the pad and have a better mic to be in the top of UA-cam! 10/10 for the content.
Thanks Evgeny!
