This was probably the best explanation of both the moeller technique and the finger technique that I’ve seen. I especially appreciate how you talked about in real-world practice, these are not strictly separate techniques but are blended together. One problem I am having when using the finger technique is I can’t seem to get both hands to work properly when I start to offset one hand to perform a “true” two handed single stroke roll. Individually, I can do the technique quite fast, and when I play with both hands in unison I can also play fast, but when I offset one hand to perform a real roll my hands fall apart. Do you have any suggestions for working through this problem?
Brilliant!! Never thought about the shoe thing. I've been trying to think how I could practice in my office here at work and a pad wouldn't work out but the shoe thing will!
Thanks for emphasizing how much practice and time this requires to learn! I watched a handful of videos and thought I could get used to this in a day or two, by simply knowing the mechanics involved. Not so! I was starting to worry that maybe drumming just wasn't for me. I've been at it for about a week, and only now is it starting to feel like a comfortable motion. Speed & uniformity is still under construction, though!
Hi Mike, thanks for the clearly explained techniques on Moeller and finger control! In the song by System of a down “Jet Pilot” in the verse do you think John is using the moeller technique to play the eighth note pattern?
Not really a different grip IMO, just a slightly different rotation of the hand. Nothing against it at all, always just slightly found the stick comes down at more of an angle in that position which I felt I didn't want/wasn't helpful. Great if it works for you though. Cheers.

Ha yeah one of my favourites, it's so true! Thanks for watching :)
Brilliant explanation...liked your statement " practice till your hands fall off ! 😊"

Another great lesson, Mike! Thanks. Makes me realize how week my left hand is when I attempt to do things as they should be done.

Cheers, yes - the accent pattern is more varied than the simple down/up shown here though.
Can you show me how to play war Lowrider
Mike have you got any recommendations for cajons which is cheap and good thankyou🥁
Hi man, yes I'm using the Meinl Headliner Snare Cajon, love it!

I use the drum stool as a practise pad lol
Do I need a practise pad?
Just found you Mike watching your videos, really good. Could someone tell the drums he’s playing is it a Roland 50?
Hey man, kit tour here: ua-cam.com/video/G9M85FEHrb0/v-deo.html
Practice pad I'm playing is a Roland Rhythm Coach. Cheers for watching!
How about the American Grip?
