Mr Barnes, Sir....you are wonderful...I really enjoy your videos, your optimism, your passion and your wisdom....I too really wish there'd been this resource (youtube) when I was a kid ,learning...I think what you do here is just great 👌🏽if I'd had access to all this when I was first playing (long long time ago) I'd be a much better player by now, for sure! Thank you for sharing your passion so openly....keep up the good work, bro! Rock on! ✊🏽👌🏽🤓🙏🏽
My favorite video! Starting slow & explaining how that " improvement zone"Seeing feels. When I get discouraged I refer to this! The example of someone as good as you showing your limits & having fun to boot! 😄❤️
What an incredible video. Two amazing things about this. Firstly, the expression: Struggling - that's what improving feels like!! Flipping gold! Secondly, your attitude and approach to teaching is incredibly inspiring.
Brilliant teaching as usual .... I actually managed to " keep up" til the 140 BPM ...not bad for me as a self taught grade 3/4 ..love the way you make learning the drums soooo much fun ❤😅 thank you
Hey man loved this video. Got a quick question, I have a fill I am trying to get fast at, I can play it at the “ improvement zone “ for 30 seconds straight, is that ok and should I move the tempo up or stay there?
Hi Tom, not sure! But It's just one exercise that can be useful for building speed that can then be used in a musical context. It's not an olympic event! Or an end in itself. Cheers man, hope you're doing well.
Thanks, I love your lesson series! I have a lot of problems getting the first fill at speed with the Proud Mary song of Ike & Tina Turner. And because I know, and see all band members looking at me every time we arrive at that part, it becomes a big psychological issue as well. Just before the fill I tense up, and that way it never works and becomes a selffulfilling prophecy over and over again. Hope your tips will help. Thanks again for all the support, your tutorials are very inspiring! 👍🥁😀
Ah thanks Richard, lovely message. And yes I know that feeling exactly! 3 rules:keep going, keep going and keep going! The more you work on the right stuff the better you'll get. This type of exercise works wonders if you stick at it - get in that improvement zone and stay there and the speed and smoothness will build. Cheers and thanks so much for watching, really pleased if vids are helpful :)
Tanks! I will not give up and keep on pushing! I wanted to support you through www.buymeacoffee.com/mikebarn... but unfortunately there is no possibility using paypall. Don't think you can make money nowadays without it, just my feedback ;-) I do not have my credit card with me right now, will take care of it later. Cheers!

Like the man says: stay loose! ✌🏽
200 bpm is slow for a death metal drummer, 240 bpm is medium, 280 bpm is fast
