One of the best looking and sounding cars of all time. Absolute bucket list item for every Audi enthusiast. But you really need an aftermarket exhaust, it's crazy not to get one.
I hankered after the b7 rs4 as it was the only Audi of its time to do the 60:40 split torsen differential to make the handling characteristics more rearward led, unlike the haldex systems Audi offered in the golf sized cars such as the a3/s3/tts/ttrs. Unfortunately back in 07 when they cam out i was driving an evo and couldnt afford a rs4. I think theyre a classy, well made car which is understated. I was hankering after a v8 and with the launch of the c63 in 2008 i was drooling over that untill i could eventually afford one back in 2012. I have to say ther Merc is a lot more lairy, has more torque, and is a bit more of a muscle car than the rs4. It suits me perfectly and i can forgive its 18 mpg avg when i hear the v8 warbling down the road and the speedo climbing up well past one hundred and beyond with ease. 520 brake and 480 ft lb of torque seems enough but i'm now used to the speed and am thinking of going down the supercharger route. I think it will be a car to keep till i die and will get something else as a DD=. I would still love a drive in a rs4, hopefully i get the honour to do so, it would be an interesting comparison to the high revving c63.. Enjoy!
Thank you for this video, I've been following one RS4 for about a year now, and its been on sale since. I guess noone has the funds to maintain such a beast. When it comes to fuel and registration, it's something you can only dream about here where I live.
It's not so much that nobody can afford it. It's more that most people want turbo cars that are easy to maintain and have the latest gadgets. The RS4 is for us true enthusiasts!
Really good advice for anyone thinking about buying one of these. I had a B7 RS4 for 4 years and loved it. One thing to ask a seller that was not covered in this video is "what is the oil consumption of this car like?" Many B7 RS4's drink a lot of oil - like 1ltr per 1000 miles - some don't drink any at all and go from service to service with levels intact. Also watch out for remapped versions as this might invalidate your insurance if you are not aware of it having been done (its sooo worth it though ;). Finally, clutch judder when cold can be a thing in higher mileage examples - bank on a couple of grand to replace. Otherwise, they are an AWESOME car. Traded mine in for the B8 version which is good but lacks some thing this version has in spades - personality.
Im driving mine for 3 years now and own a whatsappgroup of 25 members, most of us stopped with the oil consumption from changing 5W-30 LL which was normally inside to 5W50 Mobil1. Milltek is rusting after a few years but the still replace it with a brand new one if you send it in.
Fair point but anything German the likes to rev drinks oil... It's like a some point in the chase for power they just decided to ignore tolerances within the oil change...
I own a B6 1.8T Avant, unfortunately, Audi never made the RS4 in the B6 only B5 & B7 and to purchase one of these even now there fetching big money 15K plus and that’s for a half decent one! The one you have will be worth a mint as it’s in mint condition, great review there. Subscribed 👍🏻
Thanks VERY much for this video- I'm rather unfamiliar with RS models and, have an opportunity to pick up a saloon for 20k. My issue was I had ZERO clue what RS specific items to check- now I know. Query: What sort of maintenance history should I look for in a 2007 model with 95k on it? Timing belts or chains on the 4.2L RS engine? Excellent video for we RS noobs! Cheers!
Thank you thank you for the in depth video. Couple of things I think should have been covered. 1.) I would have liked that you open the fuel cap so that we can see what fuel must be put in the car. 2.) Also the issue of the spare wheel because this car doesn't come with one. What is the best way to come around this problem? Because driving it without a spare wheel is quite risky. Waiting for your response thanks.
Be sure when purchasing tires you get "run flats" they have a thicker sidewall that will allow you to drive a certain number of miles at a certain speed. Down side is these tires can be upwards of 400 a tire
Hi do you think this car is worth buying as an investment, I.e enjoying it for 3- 4 years then selling it on for a bit more than bought for? And also is it worth getting the Cabriolet it will mainly be a weekend or 3 day a week car
Great video! very useful tips- looking forward to more videos in the future. On a side note I don't know if it was just me but i found it pretty hard to hear the difference in the exhaust note when it was in sports mode lol
Glad you enjoyed the video Asim. The difference between Sport and not Sport is subtle, it's a bit like listening to your favorite song and turning the bass up but leaving the volume as it is. Thanks for the comment!
One of the best cars I’ve ever owned the b7 sprint blue avant unfortunately I’ve sold mine a while ago as there was the wrong attention on it. Nearly got nicked
You clearly know your cars, I thought that was a good comparison when you made reference to the mk2 16 valver - which is all about performance at the higher rev range in comparison to the 8 valve.
I seem to recall the 8v always feeling really torquey and the valver was a revvier beast. Another car i hankered after, a big bumper oak green 16v with the rare option of a/c. I think in fact the ultimate VW of that era for me was the Corrado - possibly vws finest coupe, in that blackberry colour and that stonking 2.9 offset il6. They are a 5 star car in evo's 'data' in the back of the mag..
Thank you for excellent info I'm looking for one in Europe. Im based in France. One in Germany is described as having had the intake manifold cleaned as far as i glean. Do you have any input about why that is needed? Carboned up by an egr?
It's carboned up as the direct injection doesn't clean the inlet track like an indirect injection system. On newer direct injection systems, direct and indirect injectors are used to alleviate this. Not all cars suffer so I wouldn't worry too much.
One of the nicest driving ones I've sold had done over 100k miles so I wouldn't rule it out but condition and history are still very important. B5 models are still worth good money over 100k miles so it wont be a problem to sell on as they get older.
I know what you mean and no they don't. I like the S4 but that rattle is just terrible. Must be a fix but never looked into, just went and bought an RS4!
Thanks , that's a good enough excuse for to ditch my S4 and upgrade , had minor rattle on my s4 , only has 60k on the clock , now lost oil pressure and multiple misfires , thinking tensioner has gone and chain slipped. Rather buy a RS4 than throw money at S4
@@2nsane2005 the b7 rs4 and all R8's with the 4.2 dont have any of the chain related problems because they have the metal chain guides instead of the plastic ones. Easiest way to identify is the 4.2 with an output of 340hp will have to chain issues unless its been fixed before. The 420hp cars from factory will not have the issue.
In my 2009 c63 amg the side bolsters are broken on both seats. They will not go in or out. I am pretty sure that the wire has been shorted due to the box being below the seat and the way it moves back and fourth there must be an issue. Ive already checked the fuses no such luck. Any thoughts?
volkswizard is that mpg even possible with this car? How did you cope with it especially considering it doesn't come with a spare wheel? Based on this video you made me realise that I have to thoroughly inspect it before purchasing. Thanks
It rarely saw below 20 mpg but rarely over 25 mpg. It was slightly worse than my 2.7 V6 B5 RS4. I drive a lot of cars without spare wheels, just keep a regular eye on tyre pressures (the TPMS system helps but make sure previous owners haven't deactivated it) and make sure you have breakdown cover!

Hey dagnut, thanks for commenting. Feedback appreciated, this was a 2017 film when my productions skills were a bit clunky. Things have improved with my later vids although you may still dislike some of the music!
@@mikessmith5177 Thats not really true is it, the engine is iconic. Sure the build quality isnt the same its a cheap way into v8 motoring but theyre not bags of shit ls3 engines are tunable and sound like a proper v8. Audi has a better finish and build quality but if you want and cant afford the audi the american engined vxr is a contendor imo.
Why did you completely ruin this potentially very informative video with really horribel sound quality? Wind noises, humming sounds, hardly understandable what you say. What a pitty! Retake the sound with a proper microphone in a quiet room afterwards and improve the video please. And listen to what you have made before uploading it to UA-cam helps too. Love the car though! Would love to know what you have to tell about it.
Thanks for your comment. I've made progress with audio in newer videos, I am constantly learning but can only put so much time/effort/funds into videos. I think this one still gets the message over clearly enough but I am sorry you don't agree.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for your video.
I shall be buying an RS4 B7, with your help and detailed video, I shall be prepared.
