2006 Audi RS4 B7 Avant review - the best Audi ever made?

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 8 сер 2024
  • The 2006 Audi RS4 (that's the B7 for all you geeks) was a high point for Audi's car design. With a manual gearbox, 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 and a slinky estate body style, it has ticks so many petrolhead boxes. But how does it hold up in the 2020s? Could you use one as a family car? Join me for a walkaround and a bit of bleary-eyed nostalgia with Audi's phenomenal RS4.

I've had my mugello blue avant for 6 years now. There's no way I'd I've ever sell it. I sorn it during the winter but then I have withdrawal symptoms 😁. Standard ones are great but I'm sure audi limited the power in the first 3 gears. Mine is mrc stage 2 tuned and its a totally different car from standard. The power delivery in all gears is relentless. A future classic for sure. Great vid 👌

@@jerryx2000 The biggest bill was when the front diff went in the gearbox. I sourced a 2nd hand box. It was Just over 3k for the box and labour to fit it,also a new clutch was fitted.
You just have to keep on top of the maintenance and a carbon clean does these the world of good. The injectors can be pricey to replace but it Is what it is. The actual engine is so strong and has never let me down.
They are old cars now but the parts are still expensive, replacing the drc Is pricey but luckily mine was on coilovers when I bought it.
I only use mine during the summer and I'm starting to get itchy feet now every time I open the garage door and see it sat there😁.

Nice review, absolutely love mine, sadly in not quite such good condition as this Audi owned example. The only thing I have to take issue with, is the stem of the gear change feeling plasticky. On mine at least, I love the way the stem of the gear change stays cool (even when things get hot and messy) as I assume it is crafted from a solid lump of metal. Maybe an odd thing to pull out of the review but as soon as the words fell out of your mouth my mind flashed to this standout, for me, detail.

My 1999 B5 S4 (Ming Blue) will pull away from a standstill without touching the throttle and, using the clutch peddle only, you can progress through the gears until you reach 6th. Thats the benefit of torque. Additionally, when parking the S4 wagon next to a modern SUV box you realise just how compact an older estate car is. Love my S4 and after 19 years ownership and 302k miles I have no intention of selling it.

if ppl manage to understand that they cannot have a cocktail pair of shoes that are good for running a marathon, how can they not understand that crossovers cannot be that car that does it all.

Generally, yes. I think it was an actuator that moved the flaps or a potentiometer that measured their position. To fix it, I was told by three mechanics that I had to buy everything, including the cast piece.
I also had trouble buying stock rotors. They were on back order for 4 months. I eventually bought after market parts for those.
Other than the parts issues, I absolutely loved the car.

After 5 previous audi A4, I bought my wife another A4-newest model and it is a terrible car. I have S8 V10 2008 - best car audi ever made just like that RS4, S6 and RS6. After these models of that era which audi made best that the knew, today they are chasing co2, ecology, not killing dolphins - whales and similar crap because of idiots in greenpeace. And that sound - puts a smile on my face even after all these long years of owning. And I am not a huge car guy and even I can see a diference between good old enginering and a new bullshit of todays cars.

Hmmm you see the question mark after "the best Audi ever made?????" That means he was asking a question, it doesn't mean he said it is the best Audi ever made, he doesn't need education my friend..... You do 😉
Btw stock for stock the b7 is way ahead of the b5 in every department, and I love the b5 but I would never trade my b7 for a b5 but that's just my opinion
