It'd take time to sell it by yourself. Pawnshops won't give the exact amount it's worth as they need to resell it, etc. But they do give instant cash.
Orange it’s not that easy to sell something like this online. Yes it’s valuable and rare but in reality, how many people will actually want to spend $13k + for a map? Despite its historical valuable some people want instant cash instead of waiting. Unless you prefer to sell it in a museum which can also get more out of a pawnshop

@@JegErN0rsk the problem of eBay is that there are competitors to compete with. There is a possibility someone could be selling the same item at the lowest start bid or price

Finally an educated seller who knows exactly what he has, and Rick throws him one of the biggest lowball offers the show has ever seen. Even worse was the seller accepting it. Should not have accepted a penny less than $8500

You're incorrect, of course. Keystone is quite standard in the industry. IT'S A SALE TO A PAWN SHOP. He offered him $7,000 cash on an item he may sit on for years to retail, with a goal of $12,500. If the guy had put it into an auction, he'd wait six months and pay 25-40% in seller fees.
Thus, his offer was very fair.
I agree that $7000 was low - 2/3 of her valuation of $12500 would be fair in this situation; i.e. $8250 to $8500.
I’m trying to figure out why he lowballed so much. Did he just sense something in the guy that he would go that low? Normally Rick is really keen on this kind of American history stuff. This was One of the most off key negotiations I’ve seen on this show.

One of the challenges for Pawn Stars is that Rebecca hasn't lived in Las Vegas for some time (after moving to Philly in 2016, she now lives in Washington, DC area getting ready to open a rare book gallery next year). They can only film these segments about rare books when she travels to Las Vegas. I'm guessing that she continues to come to Vegas not just to visit her family but to continue to raise her profile, as the show has made her the most famous rare book expert in the world.
I'll trade the map for Rebecca's phone number!

Yah right come on man don’t be stupid , he got $7k that was a fair offer since Rebeca said it was worth , I’m sure he tried to sell it online and nobody would buy it , that’s why he came to pawn shop for a quick bucks ! Rick now has to frame it and make it look nice put it up for sale for $12500 and ever tries to buy it will offer him $10 to $11k they won’t pay full price , so he’ll end up making around $3k in this map ! But what if he sits on it for a while ? Or if it don’t sell at that price !?? Think about pawn shops like Hard corn pawn and if you seen their warehouse in the back , there was hundreds if not thousands of old TVs , DVD players , computers that nobody would take for free now and they paid money for all those items , now they can just toss it into trash. If any of you buy and sell stuff like this, than you would do the same thing unless u wanted to go broke sooner than later .
