Why 100?! It would be less insulting to give them nothing
The concept of paying someone with experience/exposure is criminal and exploitive.
Yeah that don't pay the bills, or feed you, I'm actually disgusted he's that greedy it's crazy.
There are very few situations that it would even be worth it. But the thing is if you have the money you can afford to pay them atleast enough to pay their bills
For example if Joe Rogan offered for you to come on and you weren't getting paid it would definitely benefit you.
@@JacobDoe69 the benefit doesn’t justify exploiting some one. That’s slave owner rational.
Interviews aren’t jobs
Mike Redbar has changed the people’s minds about stand up comedians, finally!!!
What a dream come true 👌
FOOLS NOTICE
Only comedians who are JRE more than once are friends 😂
@ Agostinho Zinga The fact that Ari Shaffir, a comedian who has a reputation as being among the most disrespectful, and degenerates in the history of standup, has given back to it far more than most comics with a less troubled past: This is truly the definition of " Comedy! " like Mark Norman would say. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fact that Rogan has such influence that he got that Semitic hack considered funny is
I recall hearing when he left for his annual 2 month vacation in a foreign land, he offered anything from his apartment to new comedians in NYC. Ari is legitimately a nice dude -- from what I can tell.
You have a wild look and voice. I love it!
hahaha thank you!
The Regz are kings of comedy podcasts
Nah, Lemon Party is
I bet he learnt it from brendan shuab
he learned it from Ari Mannis - and it’s a joke….
I don’t see why they would be friends-if the west coast and east coast comedians differentiate themselves from each other, why wouldn’t they also be fragmented from comedians in the south?
Great take on this. I agree 💯
thank you
Good stuff
100 today that's equivalent to 20 back then. People need to ask for a percentage of the tickets sold, they need to use their social media presence as leverage if they got that. With the cost of everything, you'll be losing money traveling for a 100$ gig. They probably have other expenses that a 100 doesn't cover. People are desperate, have no backbone and are not paying lawyers to look over contracts. Demand a contract and read it. If it wasn't for Luis' messy ass, we wouldn't have that info.
nah i think percentage is more than fair, 1% over $100,000 made is more than fair. $100 is quite insulting given how much Theo stands to make for that weekend theatre show
The problem with that is, if you chose not to sign, someone else will happily take your place for even less. The buck does not stop with you. So trying to negotiate is pointless unless you fully intend on losing an opportunity for exposure
This is something that’s happening with Adult Swim’s writers and voice actors too. They get forced into predatory contracts early on, being told their show won’t last, then it gets famous, and the creators don’t see a dime, AND don’t have the copyright to use those characters. The guy who voiced Frylock in aquateen hunger force is homeless right now. Let that sink in
Soder has a massive head, not small hands, as far as I know
13:08 they don’t want the best of the best opening, as far as I’ve heard it’s very common for well known comics to take out someone who isn’t that great comparatively so they look even better in contrast
18:46 don’t forget merchandise too, probably clears 50 grand a night on that
Theo's spent too much time around Dana White
ahahahahahaha yeah, he learnt from the best
"on sticks" lolol crying
I know a comedian who is best friends with a decently famous comedian, one of Joe Rogan's friends. So he is 2 degrees of separation from Joe.
He can't get on JRE all these years. The other UA-cam comedians make fun of comedians on his level who perform on cruise ships.
Comedians know each other more or less and see their colleagues selling out arenas/theaters and starring in movies.
Of course, there is going to be some jealousy and resentment.
Especially when they don't help a brother out, with tours and movie roles.
Rogan constantly putting on his buddies is the reason his show is boring now, and all these podcasts in the rogansphere suck. Ole Rogies is the reason you only get access to comedians who do nothing but complain about cancel culture and not make you laugh for 20 minutes straight every single episode
It’s nepotism at its finest, and no, I don’t feel bad for people who are mad they don’t get a free ride from a celebrity. Be funny and earn it. I feel bad for comics who get ripped on for doing certain gigs, but that’s something every comic worth their salt has to deal with. What IM upset about is the fact that truly funny people are left by the wayside in order to make space for people like Bert being a fat baby
@@JLBxFTW Nothing funnier than the 1st 45 minutes of the Brady Roast for me. Funnier than most all specials and movies in years.
@@theojarome6108Yeah i gotta see that. I basically grew up on roasts. And yeah a lot of comics are putting out mid to low tier garbage just because they have an hours worth of material. Ian Fidance’s special was terrible
Here’s a few good recent specials on UA-cam for free tho:
Sam Tallent- The Toad’s Morale
Joe List- I Hate Myself
Big Jay Oakerson- Dog Belly
And of course, Shane Gillis- Live in Austin
I’ll try to remember a few later. I actually have a playlist of favorite standup specials if you wanna dig in, the ones I listed are on there as well
Wow so true. My coworkers at one of my jobs gave me a few bucks to look at his car . It’s helped me get started in doing side work on automobiles
honestly, shi like that really helps, more so when its coming from your friends/coworkers, they probably have no idea what youre going through privately, but sometimes, someone being nice and give you $50 for helping them move goes a really long way. thats why everyone as a rule should pay their friends for their time and effort. buying them a bottle of whiskey or a steak dinner is cool, but its not enough, cold hard cash is more dignified and allows the person to do what they want with the money given to them. its the only way imo
@@TAZS yeah your right. I got tipped by a stranger he gave me 20$ an it made me cry bc I needed it so bad
I hope this is confirmed because this could really fuck up theos reputation if it’s not true
I hate how people compare a comedian's stage time to an hourly wage. Comedians are constantly writing & rewriting material & doing free open mics to perfect their jokes. And this does not even account for travel time to & from each venue or doing all their own marketing, networking & social media. The way a comedian appears to spontaneously make up jokes & observations in the moment is part of the illusion of standup. But the truth is a good comedian works 40 hrs/wk off stage writing, practicing, promoting & perfecting their routine.
And creating a great one hour of comedy takes a comedian YEARS. Most good comedian who are actually funny & write their own material can create about 20 minutes of new jokes per year at the most. And creating that material involves a lot of time writing, rewriting & performing to add all the nuances & test on a variety of audiences. Its why good comedy ghost writers are paid very well. This doesn't even include the years it takes to learn how to maintain an audiences attention for longer routines. Learning how to construct a routine that can keep people engaged, listening, & laughing for an entire hour is an art form in itself.
That's why Louis CK has always been considered a great comedian b/c he could write a brand new 1 hr special every year that maintained the quality/humor level. Yes, these days you see lot of comedians constantly putting out new specials to chase Netflix money but this is why its never as funny as their early stuff (and they pay a lot for ghost joke writers).
Great assessment
Yeah you got to work hard if you want it can't cry for hands outs.
@@miketurner1908 Unless you are one of the 6 unfunny comedians Rogan is trying to push
@@amyk6319 you sound bitter
@@miketurner1908 no bitterness, but I should've said annoyed b/c hate is a strong word. I did some open mics yrs ago & enjoyed it greatly, but you have to really love standup, like spending most of your time driving & be OK w/being really poor for a long time to do it as a career.
Did anyone say Theo Von?.
Opener gets a 1/3 of a seat’s cost. Probably through 1090 contracted employee so he will still have to pay taxes. C’mon Theo
I didn't even think about taxes! Sweet Jesus that's insulting
Headliners don't even get 1/3 of the gate. That's crazy.
I don't wanna believe this! What happened to "The Golden Rule"?
Imagine what headliners got paid back in the day.
😢😢😢 especially before Joe Rogan became popular
Probably nothing
You should check put Bill Burr on Bill Maher’s podcast.. there’s a bit where Burr tries to say you can really treat your movie crew right by buying them lunch from a food truck once a week instead of the default catering.. which I noticed, and commented, is similar to office managers giving people a pizza party instead of a bonus… Burr didnt really get why Maher was laughing at it.
The whole podcast was very contentious. Lots of drama..
thanks for the heads up man, ill def check it out, thank you!!!
Theo von i reckon is a lot richer than he likes to perceive. I also can tell Theo is tight AF 😂
Uk music scene is sad because talent is strong but money is not there like America
Many UK artists are big in the rest of Europe and many in southern US too tho so gud money can be made out here but for the big bucks the US market is ideally broken too but to say OASIS for example ain't well off financially or the money wasn't there for them isn't accurate...
What are you on about? As long as an artist don't sign a slavery deal like the Stone Roses did with..Silverstone.. then there is millions and millions to be made in the UK. You don't even need hits in the UK to be extremely comfortable. I used to know a lot of bands and DJs. The coin is here and lots of it.
@@glenndouglas8822 only people like Fred again and Peggy are making big money . Most dj’s are struggling artists .
What? American clubs make bands pay to play sometimes, and you get pocket change if you’re lucky, unless you’re insanely good AND have a following
👏👏👏
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. I like the guy but he looks like a heck. It's in his blood to deceive 👀
This stems from Ari Mannis - someone who has been friends with and opened for Theo for years - JOKING that he is paid $200 a show. He joked about that at a Theo Show i’ve been to. It’s a fucking joke. What a waste of time.
oh shit for real?! 😂😂😂 oopsie
@@TAZS Yeah dude. The original r/StandUp post about it cited the same video, and drew a connection from it to Ari Mannis's joke in 2020. Its a joke taken literally for gossip channels to then hit Theo.
❤nice vid
merci 🙏🙏🙏
Ari mannis getting played
As a fellow chicken handed man, that hit deep
art design fashion ... you are wearing glasses and a bandana in every video, wot?
Realizing most of Theo's stories were made up was like realizing pro wrestling is fake
😢😢😢😢
It took me 4 episodes to realize he was full og sh*t… i feel sorry for people who watch he’s podcast without realizing
Theo fan boys crying right now 😂
nah i love Theo too and deep down i hope it’s not true
People are confusing stand up with podcasters Theo is a podcaster his stand up is dog shit but y’all want to lie and say he’s funny just because he’s likeable
Theo pays up and coming comedians $100 to open for him. That would be like the lottery paying me to buy a powerball ticket. Its crazy to think people would complain about getting paid to get a chance at getting noticed and blowing up.
It’s the principle. $100 is less than what you’d be paid doing some nobody venue with maybe 100 tickets sold.
@@JLBxFTW some nobody's shows don't do as well as a known comic that has already built a fan base. The nobody benefits from having people open for them more then the known comic. How do you even know they get paid more when opening for someone else?
I think it’s just them not pretending to be friends with Theo if they’re not friends. They know each other sure but not that well. Bapa meets someone and then says he’s best friends.
The openers do a 15 min set so they are getting exposure, room, board and air. Any young comic would take that deal. That being said, it should be at least a grand per performance.
but dont think you 'room and board' is standard? why should that be included in the fee calculations? seems a bit unfair that. tbh, i would much rather Theo dont pay them at all, and just pay for their flights and accommodation only, at least that way you know where you stand and theres no confusion. but $100 when he's EASILY making $200k EACH show during that weekend is very insulting imo. maybe i'm being a baby about it. but if i was an opener i would be pissed. so i hope its not true.
Now that I think about it, how are they supposed to pay their rent with 100.00. I stand corrected.

If it’s true Theo von is fkn lame
I've got to ask why do people wear these do-rags?
I've never seen ANYONE wear one that actually looked cool, i just don't get it??
I mean anything looks better, a hat, a beanie, literally anything else.
that dont sound true.
let’s hope it is cause i love Theo, cause it would be sad to find out if that’s true
Theo’s stand up is very average ,he’s funny on pods but
@syx4101

Well standup always feels forced there are few that are actually good at it
At first thought yeah $100 is low but for 15 minutes worth of work for $100 is better than what majority of people get. It’s 2024, all openers should have a pawldcast or something of the sort that gets them paid on the side.
i think that’s the wrong way to look at it, usually from what i understand theatre openers travel with the headline comedian, so that’s a lot of shows. but secondly, the headliner is making 100,000s of dollars, how he can’t break them off $1,000 each is pretty lame and greedy
Interest in podcasts is waning, so you can't assume that they would make enough, especially after advertising and equipment. Also, they shouldn't HAVE to do extra work AFTER working in order to make good money. That 15 minutes of stage time is probably 30 hours or so if writing/editing/ open mic nights, etc.
