In the beginning spent 30 min looking through pawns and using advanced search. Later mid game, pick all female prettiest skimpiest in 3 min 😂 but do pick specific vocations for party mix

I just wish we could make gearset saves for different vocations so you don’t have to dig around in your storage every time you switch your pawns vocation.
being able to access and directly equip from storage would do wonders as well

You get Wayfarer later that allows you to switch between a different vocations on the fly in battle.
I've seen some pawns that were highly rated, but had terrible specs and gear. It seemed like "attractive" pawns in skimpy clothing tended to fall into this.
if you catch a pawn at the wrong time it's possible that they had just swapped vocations and haven't gotten back up to snuff yet

I'd say mage is sort of in its own category, as they are the only pawn class that can be pure support. Healing (including a ranged heal) Elemental buffs for your weapons, defensive buff that blocks attacks for the whole team, remove status effects, speed boosting and stamina regeneration. No other pawn class is team support like mage is.
Can never go wrong with having a mage in the party, even if you're playing one yourself. If they happen to share any spells with you or another mage/sorcerer pawn, they can and will join together to boost the casting speed and power. Celestial Paean is amazing to have for infinite stamina during its duration, allowing you and your other pawns to go wild with their costly skills.
I personally have a Calm inclination Main Pawn that started as mage, but I've since fully ranked all pawn vocations, before returning back to Mage so my pawn will have access to all available augments. Calm works decently for a mage as they prioritize self-preservation, keeping their distance yet still casting reliably. The only drawback is Anodyne, Celerity and Halidom with being a small aoe bubble around the mage itself. I'd recommend considering Argent Tonic/Succor to make sure they have a distant heal in their pocket rather than needing to either have your melee Arisen and pawns run their way over just to heal up. Kindhearted may have inherited Medicant and Guardian, so they'll likely heal you at a higher threshold than other inclinations, but I've had a few kindhearted mages that don't seem to heal outside of combat often unless I use the help command.

PSA FOR INCLINATIONS:
Kindhearted is best for Mage and good for Fighter.
Simple is best for Sorcerer and Archer.
Calm is good for Mage (non-support version) and Thief.
Straightforward is best for Warrior, Thief, and Fighter.
Kindhearted, stays near allies, prioritizes healing/buffs over doing damage.
Simple, focuses on attacking anything, uses skills regularly, doesnt help or follow other pawns too much. Archers seem to target weakspots more on this inclination.
Calm, focuses on staying out of harms way, sometimes spends a lot of time moving around or blocking instead of attacking. Prioritizes defensive skills(high palladium from mage is best here).
Straightforward, charges into danger, taunts a lot, prioritizes larger enemies, good climber, pins/pushes enemies often.

ive found calm pawns dotn actually make the best tanks, they very rarely engage a foe unless that foe is already cutting tou to ribbons. When i switched my warrior parn to straightforward, she started participating in fights more, used her roar more often, and really just started cleaning house in general, sometimes i switch to Theif, turn on Formless Feint and just watch her beat enemies black and blue like they owe her money
Mine kept running out too far and getting surrounded/stun locked. If you bring em back to you it doesn't matter as much, but thought I'd mention it

Me an a pal have been swaping our pawn to expiriment with what makes them effective and its funny how different they act even when using the same class lol
I dont put a helm on my pawn cuz cant see eyes or open visor. And have bright blue eyes. You wont get dragon plague till you get a pop up screen about it. Afterwards a few days later i noticed my pawn had red eyes after being borrowed so tossed in deep water brine and respawn at rift, then all good.
I wish that advanced search included pawn specializations. I can't stand pawns with logistician taking stuff from my inventory to craft items, especially if I needed those items for something specific

I only hire pawns that have Forager and Hawker👍 my pawn has the Woodlands trait to speak to elves.
I'm one level away from maxing out my pawn's vocations and will probably end up going back to Mage/Sorceror (or maybe Thief down the road). Didn't use it while my pawn was leveling her Mage vocation but a lot of secondary pawns have had Celerity and it's been so good for dps moments when you stagger or knock down a boss that I think it's a must-have for any kitted out Mage pawn.
BIG psa for dragonsplague:
If you somehow didn’t know, the pawn infected with it will take out every npc in whatever town you are staying at an Inn after a few days of the symptoms being obvious. You cannot stop this, it WILL happen unless you get rid of the infected pawn ASAP. If it is your main pawn that is infected they need to fully die and be resummoned at a rift crystal in order to reset them.

While technically true, your saves at inns also serve as your hard saves in the game for reloading back to. Camping rests don’t count for those. You also only get a report back from your main pawn if they’ve been hired by other players after an inn rest.
the symptoms of Dragonsplague seem to show outside of the Rift and the 'breaking' of saves is the "aftermath" of terminal dragonsplague. The unruly stuff is just a late onset symptom. Fever and red flickering eyes are early signs. Fever, as in they keep wiping their forehead. I kept an...eye...out when I hired pawns since I already knew of Dragonsplague, but when I hired a specific pawn that did not show symptoms yet in the rift, they did as soon as they were brought out of the rift, so obviously I had dismissed the afflicted pawn right away. I knew she had been sick since the tooltip first showed when she was hired. Thus being able to gather more info on the disease. So, like anything, with awareness it's highly preventable. I have been playing around with the Trickster vocation a bit and it tock a minute... or TBH an hour or two to figure out this class. But you really need 3 OP pawn builds that synergies to get this thing to work. But when it clicks you cant loose a fight ever. However this is best used when fighting a large crowed of monsters and not when you want to burn down a "boss" ASAP.
I like straightforward inclination for tanks
whats the best way to get pawns to help you with skill like spingboard etc more effectively at will?. i have a hell of a time trying to get them to do it when i want them too. they just stand there looking at me judgingly lol
you can try to hit the "go" command, especially if they commented about something in the other side of a gap
Your pawns will mention when a chest is high up as long as they “see it” and then you press “GO!” and they will use the skill. They don’t have the best positioning though so your results will vary. Same with mage/sorcerer pawns, they will mention sometimes they see a chest and offer to fly to it.
with dragon plague scare, don't choose a straightforward attitude or give pawn red eyes if you want your pawn hired. alot of people on forums are mistaking sassy attitude and appearance as stricken with plague
I've hired a few blind (eyes closed) pawns too.
Something I wish more people would do is get level 2 in fighter, warrior and mage. It takes 5 minutes (you literally peek your head out of vernsworth), and it makes your pawn (or Arisen) REALLY tanky.
I almost got my main pawn Dragon Plagued, but then I got into a fight with a Drake and they all fell off a bridge into the Brine 😅
The Dragonsplague stuck while I was staying at the Sacred Arbor for the first time. I had just brought back the elf sister and picked up a few items from the weapon dealer.
I only had one wake stone so I brought her back to like so I can Elvin upgrade my gear.
Don't the people respawn after a week or so? That's what I heard.
Thanks to me unlocking magick archer and i play more support based im going to add a sorcer to my team i do need to change my main pawn to straightforward thought so he can be more aggressive.
I swap out pawns often. In the Original game you might catch yourself having pawns that are 10 levels below you. In DD 2 they are everywhere. And most are pretty good.
I'm playing sorcerer with a fighter main pawn but I'm very tempted to respec them to mage and hire the fighter instead.
Maybe its just me but Ive grown super picky on what skills my mage has (palladium is 100% a must while halidom, solemnity, levin and tonic are preferable options). Fighter on the other hand I dont care as long as they wear armor and bonk their shields XD
My pawn has caught Dragonsplague so many damn times. lol
I have an eternal wakestone just in case I need it at least. It takes a pretty long time to progress though, so I haven't had my pawn go nuclear yet. If he starts getting mouthy I just toss him in the brine and resummon him. If the scars bother me I have access to the hot springs haha
What is really important are ofc spells, talents, pawn level and class level, but you forget Specialization that can be really helpful but even more "pawn attitude" if the pawn is calm and you want a tank... you will have a shitty tank.

What would be the best pawn attitude for an archer? I'm thinking it's either calm or kind-hearted...?
@WakingDreamer01 ive been testing this exact question for my pawn. Simple has done me the best. Calm seemed to spend a lot of time not attacking, or too much time shooting the closest thing to them. Kindhearted also spent too much time trying to stay near me (i sprint around like a maniac) i think this one is coded to not stray too far and try to assist you in fights. Straightforward did well, but i found them too aggressive and kept getting staggered because they were too close all the time.

I like my mages to have the halidom, succor, and either haste + cold or cold + fire weapon enchants
I look for Levin, Celestial Paeon, Halidom, Fire or Ice boon. I prefer Levin because it's what I want sorcerer pawns to have too.

That looks like the half plate armor. Hard to see with the cape on. You can buy it in the Nameless Village (east side of Vermund) fairly early in the game.
The brine cleanses dragonsplague. If your pawn gets unruly just take them to deep water and throw them in. Problem solved.
First thing I look for is to see if they have cherry-picked augments from other classes to max their damage abilities and/ or survivability (especially for Mage, Warrior and Fighter). Edit: Mage support give them subtlety from Thief, it is a great survivability augment for a support character.
especially since you don't want them getting their Celestial Paeon interrupted.

Do i need to give special arrow to archer pawn to use their skills?
i would say if you are hiring a tank pawn you would want em to be strait forward otherwise you'll be in the mix before they would ..calm tanks actually wait for you to get the threat before they jump in.
Nothing can make me hire a pawn with a voice THAT annoying. At least for a male pawn

My problem is that my pawn is a fighter but I dont like the voice and bluntness of straight forward inclination so I dont know what to do.
I know heads on most enemies are a weak spot.
But i behest try the nutpunch on male enemies. Its actually affective very affective. Bows swords magic.

Enemies fight dirty. You can to, it's all about surviving that fight and well. I drowned a colony of Saurians in a cave. Do the the shoot collapsed in cave and watet flushes out.
Apparently 10 different pawns i did that in front of said their ?(masters) Never did it.
10 Saurians and goblins stun locked me until I died. They deserved it.

I also used the exploding light. And blew up barrels and killed 20 enemies group up together.

Yes, but they typically only use them on big monsters.

They have unlimited normal ammo. However, there are specialty arrows that do status effects that you will have to find, buy or craft.
Yes you do, they’re relatively smart with them. If you don’t find the materials, arrows are pretty cheap to buy👍

They need to get rid of this dragon's plaque. It's totally useless and extremely annoying.
thing is the dev told us our pawns learn from us and i believe them. seeing streamer pawns jump into thier death nonstop etc. my guess is they copy thier master because in my 60h playtime my pawn jumped into his death only twice, my pawn can hold aggro etc.
so if that is true then you still can get a bad pawn even with all the usefull tips here.
I tend to find pawns go suicidal when they start shouting "I'M GOING TO TELL MY OWN MASTER ABOUT THIS!". They kind of fall behind the party and just disappear.
whats the best inclination for sorcerer pawn?
For any pawn you want to do dps, and not spend too much time doing anything else the order id reccomend is this: Simple > Calm > Straightforward > Kindhearted.
Simple pawns tend to just be attacking enemies. they dont spend too much time trying to position or charge in or follow you around.
Quick note on dragonsplague: you CANNOT see the red eyes when picking pawns in the rift. Only after you’ve taken them. Also the first signs of the illness is that they talk back at you when issuing pawn commands on your Dpad. If you see these things, throw them into the brine - I’m not kidding.
I tend to just dismiss them. That way, I can still rate them. It's kind of messed up to not give a rented pawn a rating, especially if it was actually a good one.

yeah but at the same time if they see everyone rating your pawn thy will not see their pawn id infected but if i get my apwn back a bunch of times and is always no rating or getting kill ill be suspicious of something@@Constellasian
It's hard for me to test now that I'm above all my friends but I think they took the free pawns for friends out? I'm fairly certain I had to pay for a friend's pawn before but the medusan bow helped me catch up

Difficulty and reliance on stats very much are influenced by yours/pawn vocation.
Thief is braindead.
Mage is braindead.

Fighter? Fighter needs some defense... dont play fighter.

I don't be.ieve dragonsplagueis visible before hiring. I finally encountered one but the easiest way to tell the first time is the popup when you hire a pawn 😂 instantly dismissed.
How do you find specific pawns based on your favorite streamers?
How can that one pawn be level 31 and have max vocation level for every class? Does the rift set others high level pawns to your current level to allow you to use them?
If you purely fight monsters, and dont get quest exp, its probably possible as long as you intentionally change them as soon as they max their vocation.
Im level 52 and my pawn doesnt have max everything, but he spent half my game as a fighter/warrior until i realized augments were usable by any class.
