Definitely one of my all time favorite droid designs, but I think the main appeal to me is how they constantly rotate their weapons after firing; just gives them a very dynamic effect that just looks cool to me As for their rarity I’m guessing it’s because they were very expensive. I like the tri droid cause it's more of an automated vehicle like the Snail droid. A much better armored unit than the AAT which had a big weakness, the crew.
Tri-droids being based on civilian models and having mini-warcrimes does have a bit of sense to it. They probably removed something and replaced it with a gas dispersal system that had some extra omph. Similar to the false surrender of the other side. Great video 👏🏻

A useful droid but at the same time rather impractical as it’s only real use would be in dire environments that would better protect it from stronger weapons where the enemy is limited on their ability to fight back
This would have been really good at picking out ranks. Though the plagued feature is usefull for taking out clones that kill it from its blind spot, combining it with what is essentially a sniper vehicle makes for a miserable application. Also the fact that it's so tall makes it an even bigger target.

Their price is always a good assumption on why certain CIS droids aren't used much, I mean, especially with the price for the viruses, and transportation. But also, I can see them being hard to just randomly deploy on the batlefield without preparations.
So, basically this is a Skakoan Robot Dog - with fricking laser beams? But I guess "War Crime Walkers" also has a ring to it. Not a nice one, but certainly one.
after I saw the rocket truthers variants it felt like they should have been the standard. it almost feels like these Droids are meant to be a paratrooper something the CIS seemed to lack.
Octuptarra tri droid, for all their manoeuvrability, massed deadly powerful weaponry and varied types they were able to deploy on the battlefield and able to react quickly to any threats. They are glaringly vulnerable to long ranged artillery, due to their massive size making them a prime target and to rocket propelled rockets or lightsabers when it came to taking out a leg and crippling it in one stroke.
No, I feel like rhe Octupara droid should replace the Homing Spider Droid as a whole. Homing Spider Droids are impractical as hell. The slightest breach in its armor will cause it to explode violently.
With their all terrain capabilities and a variety of load-outs, and the smaller versions, I could see these being used by clever commanders in rough terrain warfare against republic defence and clone forces. Or early imperial troops in the post-war conflicts. I wouldn't rate them on open terrain very well being so tall, probably makes them easy to pick off with AT-TE mass drivers. So perhaps a more niche tool for most battles over more standard walkers and hover tanks the setting tends to stick too.
