Other than the fact that this scene tears you to pieces, something else just occurred to me. Remember the night before at the dinner table she said that he would have to make the final decision because she couldn't? Well, he actually ended up doing that. When they were at that red light and it finally turned green, she made up her mind, yes, BUT he made it totally final when he turned LEFT rather than continuing on straight toward where she lived. Just something that hit me the last time I saw this gorgeous movie and, in particular, this gut wrenching scene.
No, I disagree. He was waiting for her to say yes. And she waited too long, so he believed her decision to be no. He did the only thing he could, which was to let her go.
The love, longing and regret in this scene is unbearable. She's looking at Robert but also at the new life waiting for her. But life and circumstance prevent her from getting out of the car. An unforgettable scene.

Just watched this again today, first saw it years ago and I read the book years ago. Very emotional 😢 I believe she loved her husband and her children very much, but there was oviously something missing in her marriage, passion, something she found with Robert Kincaid and even though they only spent 4 days together, when they parted ways , they knew they would always feel something. If she had gone with Robert then that would have devastated her family and her love for Robert may have been different. The music in it gets me every time. Maybe it’s about wanting what you cannot have ? She and Robert had a strong connection , but we’re never meant to be. Lovely movie, one of my favorites ❤💯‼
I think men cheat way more than women ever know about, and have to make the same decision, to stay. But per the statistics, at least half of people leave. Even in my own family, the siblings have hit the national average of divorces. Some were smart enough to break up with what would have been a disastrous marriage, before it started.
It may be hard or seem like the wrong thing to do getting divorced..... but when you find the love of your life... never let them go.... be free and live the one life you have happy with the one true love.... because at then end it will all be worth it

There are all kinds of abuse, and at least in some churches, couples are not to stay together if there is abuse. It is better to end it, before getting involved with someone else. In that case, you are no longer married, so there is no adultery. I think that was what she was trying to say to her children.

This .... oh my gosh, ♥️💔♥️ Oh how I loved you Kevin Scot Williams.our first trip to the theatre and we see this .Precious memories, how they linger . RIP PAP
Have you read the second book to this story?
Do you feel so fondly when it’s men who are cheating on their families?
I think men cheat way more than women ever know about, and have to make the same decision, to stay. But per the statistics, at least half of people leave. Even in my own family, the siblings have hit the national average of divorces. Some were smart enough to break up with what would have been a disastrous marriage, before it started.
@@JourneyDestination But men mostly leave, whereas women see the bigger picture!
@@dirkandi Elaborate
It's a rare thing when no words are exchanged, yet it says so much.
NOW this scene is purely heartbreaking. But for me, she made a very sound choice.
It may be hard or seem like the wrong thing to do getting divorced..... but when you find the love of your life... never let them go.... be free and live the one life you have happy with the one true love.... because at then end it will all be worth it
What about the fact that you would be committing adultery? If you are a Christian, this isn't an option, that is, if you intend to keep God's word and live by it.
Yes, absolutely!!
@@Sealust50Yes, in her case, she knew it would be wrong. Some people, however, should not be together. There are all kinds of abuse, and at least in some churches, couples are not to stay together if there is abuse. It is better to end it, before getting involved with someone else. In that case, you are no longer married, so there is no adultery. I think that was what she was trying to say to her children.
Makes me cry every time.
Most beautiful clip in a movie ever.
The scene in Age of Innocence, the very last scene where Newland realizes that his true love and longing for a shared life with a woman was taken from him, leaving him with nothing but memories, of her. He simply gets up from his bench and walks away slowly while the movie fades out.
Tragic.
He decided to keep it in his memory instead of going up to see her. Can't imagine the strength it takes to do that. Beautiful book
Got a headache because I cried so hard at this ending. 😭 What a wallop!
I still struggle. Life imitates Art.
Still heart shaking for this scene. So so sad and emotional. 😢😢
This scene reminds me of the love l have for my husband that l lost nearly 3 years ago to cancer. So hard to lose someone you love so much. That love never goes away.
I’m sorry for your loss. Your husband was a lucky man to have such love. While in your heat, he will never be far from you.
@@Paulco67 Thanks. You're right. He never is.
FOREVER LOVE
My mom made me watch this when I was 20 and had my heart broken by my first boyfriend of 5 years. I hated it at first then I got soooo invested and crying so much at this scene like everyone else ❤️
It woukd have never worked out for them. Divorce, scandal, guilt, children or shame. It would have never left them.
Its an idiot's game to commit adulterous affairs if your married, even if its a passionateless one.
this scene make me cry
I defy you to watch this and not shed a tear.
What a powerful, moving scene. The last time they see each other and have to end their relationship.
Heart beating pulse racing I'm sure some of us can relate.
When he nods. His. Head. He. Knows the. Answer. So sad she was tied. By loyalty. Lovely. Film.
Esta cena é muito linda e inesquecível!!! Filme maravilhoso....
I love, love, love this movie and book!
one of my favorite movies of all time, I just love Meryl in it
I just done watching this right now..flooding in tears..😥😥😥😥😥very touchable, romantic ,Great!
Sometimes real love needs to sacrifice .MOVIE moral lesson is being inlove and to be loved is the best thing but we must not be selfish in love especially if there some out there who got involved and we could hurt .
It's so hard to find true love. To let it go... it's even harder.
one of the best romantic movie all the time
I will never get over this.
Music was fantastic for every scene
I'm 67 Blk female and when I watch this movie I cry. This movie makes my heart ache. She never stoppef loving her husband..she hung in there..that is what real love is all about..she made a sacrifice but in the end she wins..such a cold movie but heart warming
Wow! this scene...the rain , the pain...
The scene where he opens the door of his truck and she takes the handle in hers is anthology, when the first time it makes your heart accelerate to 100
