As a non-pilot enthusiast with many hours as “observer” or “ballast” I appreciate explanations of things like “actual”. Thanks for letting us ride along.
@William, if you are referencing the squarish area that has a bunch of things that look like buttons and switches on the top row, that is the circuit breaker panel. They all pop out if the circuit trips and the switches at the top control the exterior lighting, de-ice controls and a couple other minor things.
You are so right. You never get tired of it. I got my licence in 1958 and flew for nearley 60 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Now I'm working on my 83rd year and wish I was still in the cockpit. Keep up the great videos as they help to make an old mans day.
Really enjoyed this. My grandfather was a pilot from age 17 (WWII instructor) to age 71. He took me with him many times and this reminded me of those trips. He later flew Barons and last had a candy-apple red v-tail Bonanza (hot!) He could do it all in his sleep, but never swayed from the meticulous checks and process. You picking out the clouds that you like reminded me of him too. He would always say "Joel, look at these clouds. No one else will ever see what we are seeing right now." I loved that. Thanks again, beer(s) on me if you're ever in the Portland OR area.
Thanks for the feedback...I'll try to incorporate that some more. I just did a flight with a close up most of the flight to show instrument approaches and single engine autopilot work. :)
Agreed! That’s the only thing missing sometimes...what’s happening on the gauges. But love the videos and really appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
I have been watching the Raptor build and Elliot had requested the plane be moved to a different airport. Watching your departure, I completely understand the lay of the land now and why they want it taken to a different airport. I have been waiting to see this video that I was hoping you would post showing the area. Great job!! Knowing there was deer and terrain that is not suitable for test flying, that makes complete sense that they are moving the plane to a different location. Thanks Kevin for a great video!! Keep up the great work!!
You’ve got 100LL flowing through your veins, Kevin. When I was getting my instrument rating, my instructor told me, “If you want to go up, pull back ... if you want to go down, pull back some more“. It worked every time!!
I got my PPL in 1969 but only have about 100 hrs- things changed. But I love watching and hearing you showing how high performance (at least to me!) GA really works. Obviously I missed Jamie a LOT on this video, but the close-ups of the gauges and the explanations made up for it- somewhat---LOL. I felt much better when I found out that both you and Jamie are controllers- no wonder you are so natural. Coming from a small, uncontrolled field, I was a klutz at radio work. Keep up the good "work" and fly safe!
Keep the explanations coming, it's great information for all of us non pilots that love coming for the ride with you. I myself find blue interior lights to be calming and show everything.
Haven't commented for awhile but wanted to say how great your videos were with your sister. It's apparent you both care a great deal about each other and even though she is scared to death of flying she trust you. My wife watched for a little while and said the scenery was spectacular. She loves the clouds and after you explained the bumpy ones and the the ones that don't cause any rough rides she now points out as we drive our car that Kevin said those are big beautiful clouds but cause turbulence and the nice smooth clouds don't, ha! Thanks again for all your videos and keep them coming. Fly safe.
I’m not a pilot, I don’t play one on TV, and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...but I enjoy watching your adventures in the air. I drove a truck over the road for a few years, and I’ve been to many of the areas you fly to. Much different perspective from a few thousand feet. Thanks for sharing taxiing your sis back and forth.
Kevin, your commentaries are too funny for words. Will you ever lose that Southern Accident? Probably not! I am a former Alabama boy far removed . Moved north when I was 12. Never uttered another y’all until I visited my relatives in Birmingham. Really enjoyed living down South. I still have a lot of respect for Southern chivalry! Love your choice of words 1BC. You would make an excellent CPL Pilot after you retire from ATC. Love your channel and passion for aviation.
-- The nerdishness you profess is a simple reflection of the depth of understanding and love for the art of aviation. It's a pleasure to hear you report that you _never_ tire of what you so lovingly do.
So true about getting actual IFR experience when getting your training. I went real IMC for the first time ever... after I had my instrument rating...not recommended.
First, don’t apologize for needing out on all the flight lingo and airplane stuff!! Your audience is here because we love that stuff too!! Second, I love watching you guys! You are pretty much the only one that I continue to watch over time.
At around 4 minutes into the video, the shot outside looks amazing, the clouds moving, seeing the ground and the wing tips 😀 👌 🙌 you asked in the video so I answered. Looks great 👍 thanks for taking us on the flight ✈️ 👍
One of your best 310 Pilot ...sunset and night flying with a good landing...cameras worked great...sorry Jaime did not get to experience that...thanks and stay safe !
There was a show way back when, called 'Sky King'. He started with a Cessna T50 Bobcat, but changed to the 310 for most of the series. Thank you for all your good work.
You have to be all in if you really want to be good and not just good but solid, proficient, and safe. I greatly appreciate your videos. Keep up the great work!
That was an instructive flight back to Aurora, Illinois Airport. That also was a neat landing at night, with some sun way off to the west. Love seeing the trips you take and hope to keep watching. Kevin and Jaime I enjoy watching you both fly and work .
As I’m watching your video and you landed and started taxiing, here at my home a thunderstorm squall line was rapidly approaching during the same dusk like time and conditions. For a moment there I thought to myself, I hope you make it into the hangar before the rain hits. It took a moment until a smiled. It really goes to show how realistic the videos are, almost as if one is in the right seat! Great video Kevin!
Your vids are so awesome for an aviation fan who always dreamed of learning to fly. The nerd stuff helps me realize the precision and attention required and why the skies are safer without me navigating them.
Kevin loving every flight and the information you share with us. Yep also can't get enough of those puffy clouds in the air or on the ground. Just a night VFR pilot but training to read the instruments and not your senses was challenging and fun.
Being a grounded pilot due to underlying medical conditions, I love your content. Inspires me to fight the good fight and continue my training. keep them coming!!!
Kevin your radio work, as pointed out by @socialflight is the best part, and you have so many good parts! You run a tight ship, your use of checklists is impeccable, and you are such a great example to us all. The “nerd out” moments are spectacular. Thank you for all the time you put in. The paint? SUPER JEALOUS!
Nice flight Kevin...I couldn’t agree more about those Avidyne’s IFD’s! And those new LED landing lights really brighten that runway! I just installed new LED’s on my aircraft but haven’t flown them at night yet! Thanks for letting us ride along. Don/NE Ohio. 😊
That was fun to watch. Lots of good views out the cabin over the wings, I love that. As close to being there and looking out with my own eyes as you can make it. The new landing lights really work well. Major improvement.
Your comment about flying never gets old..... I've only experienced two things in my life that once I did, I knew each would be a part of my life forever.... one was my first plane ride at 7 years old and the other was the first time I ever kissed a pretty girl. Yep.... something about that! :-)
I love how the Tennessee river looks from the air, I’m blessed to call Tennessee home but I’m currently getting my private pilot’s license so I can adventure out in style. Maybe I’ll be in the right place at the right time to see 310 pilot in the sky:)
When you are passing through the Mt Vernon IL airport has a very good place to eat in the terminal ,you can park right in front. Not too sure of the hours during the wk. but have good smorgasbord on Sat & Sunday.
Good thing you were solo flying when you saw the deer (coyotes), you were calm and cool. I hope you can get those 1970's analog gauges replaced soon. Safe travels
Oh man, took me back to my 310 & Chieftain flying days & my favourite time aloft. Dusk with some cloud & then that final transition between EOD & darkness. Beautiful. Plus I never get tired of glancing Port & starboard glimpsing prop spinners & the coolest looking tip tanks. At night the red hot glowing exhaust manifold of the Chieftain was also as comforting as an old log fire.
Always enjoyed night flying. Smoother air and the lights make it feel like a different world up there. Neat video of how you were skimming the clouds. Keep waiting for the ball caps in the store to come available again.
Kevin...I’m a fan. Well done. Would be great if you would give the history of 1BC. Beginning 1973 birth to today. I owned a 340 and enjoyed flying her. 310 so similar. Give us 1BC history! Your film editing well done as well. Being a controller yourself is educational for FAA in flight communications. Keep your videos comin’!
Aviation nerd here too. VFR pilot, but fly IFR with friend in his Twin Cessna.. Lots to manage with fuel returns, heat, manifold pressure etc. Great Channel.
It was great riding along alone with you, having you ‘nerd out’, and explaining all of the stuff that might bore a regular passenger. Whenever you fly solo, a tour of some of the less-used functions of the RNAV and other instruments would be really interesting, even if you’ve covered them in other videos.
I enjoyed the night landing. I'm not a pilot but my ex-father in law had a V-Tail Bonanza and an Aeronca if I'm spelling that right. My ex didn't like flying but she'd go with us at times to spend more time with me. The twin Baron was one of my favorite planes because it's gorgeous and your new paint looks killer. I watched one of yours the other day about the approach to Sun and Fun and I know exactly why your wife hates it. We lived in Orlando at the time (Altamonte springs) and that race track holding around the lake was a trip because people weren't the most cautious. Enjoy the show and I'll stop and say hi if I'm ever at a show and see you two. I live in Nashville now. Take care! Chris
Kevin I hope you continue "nerding" out on aviation as much as possible because I absolutely LOVE it and never tire of listening to you talk about the little details of everything! I'm not a pilot but will be flying xplane 11 and the new ms flightsim 2020 when out. I took lessons when a young adult but never soloed, lots of money I didnt just have available but I should of made it work. Now I may never be able to due to medical issues that popped up, so I plan on doing alot of detailed flight swimming as I can and I got the 310 for xplane but different model I believe. Have to upgrade my PC before I can fly in VR which is the o ly way I want to go. I love your channel and you and your wife and family! Best of luck to you all always!
I use to fly in the mid-late 70's and loved doing it all the time. I started my commercial and wasn't patient enough to get that finished, loved the lazy eights etc. My wife made the mistake of asking what toy would you get if you get one and I said an airplane. I trained in the Cessna's, 150 182 and 182 constant speed prop, but always had a soft spot for the Piper 236. Thank you for your videos.
Nice round trip 2nd leg. One request: Takeoffs, approaches and landings are often the most interesting parts of the flight so feel free not to speed them up... Viewers can do that if they are bored. Thanks, Kevin! Keep them coming!
I think I heard you say in one of your other videos that you are a CFI. From the way you explained everything in this video, I think you would make an excellent instructor. If I were still flying, and we lived closer together, you would be my go to guy. Thanks for another great video.
Great videos Kevin. I live near ARR in Sugar Grove and watch you fly past my house on your videos when you land on 27. I took lessons on a PA-22 Piper Colt about 50 years ago was soloing but did not continue because of cold weather and them marriage and kids. Regret it now. Still an enthusiast and love simulations. My wife hates flying but, believe it or not, she loves your videos. Who knows, maybe she will change and let me get back to flying. Thanks.
Man I really enjoy your videos. I'm an aviation geek but never got my license. I've always been fascinated by flying. My dad back in the day owned a single engine Luscomb so I grew up listening to his stories. Anyways I'm a retired ARFF at MIA and truly appreciate your detailed explanations and point of views during your flights. Thanks and look fwd to your next video.
Thank you for the feedback/nice comment Jose! Even though you haven't dove into aviation personally (yet :) ) I'm really glad you're enjoying the channel.
I like that cabin width. I have spent a LOT of time in the right seat of a 58 Baron., That is pretty narrow, the pilot and I would stagger our seats a bit, so my shoulder would not be into his.
"1973 designed airplane?" Hey! I graduated high school in 1970! In 1973 I was full of vinegar and no fear of death! That plane is a strong, safe, and reliable classic!! Fly high my friend!
Great video, loved the cloud surfing and the in-depth explanations. Went on a Discovery flight a week ago! Planning on starting flight school later this year. 😎
Offer still on the table, if you ever need a copilot I'm always up for it! Need to stop by the hangar and check out the new paint at some point. Keep the videos coming!
Way to log that .001 hrs of actual, Kevin. Working getting more actual on my way to the IFR rating, for the reasons you mentioned. Good flight and great video. I didn’t know that Jaime is J.J. at the center. Lastly, I’m still envious of that panel! Hoping to get there some day!
I don’t know about older or other Skyhawks but the sp models i fly have a little pieces of fiber optic right up in front of the navs and strobes and they go into the tips and out the bottoms of the tips so you can see that they’re working
One hundred octane splash. When I was in the Navy stationed at Naval station Mayport , Florida one time , I had an experience with a JP-5 fuel truck hose bursting right at the connection under the wing of an F 4 Phantom . While waiting for the jet to be topped off ,I was about three feet from the connector when it let go. I was completely drenched in fuel. Then I had to run to the truck to shut the fuel off because I was the only one performing the fueling . I know the feeling. Not a good day. That particular fueling was under pressure . Like I said ,not a good day. So glad you weren't hurt or had a fire .Stay safe Kevin . Take care.......
My 21 year old son is a pilot an has turned me on to your channel we enjoy all your adventures thanks for your hard work on video’s god bless an keep on having fun 🇺🇸 later on 😎
I always enjoy conversations about IFR flight. About 20 years ago I put in about 25 hours of instrument training, including IMC, and I have boot marks on my butt because I didn't finish (life, ex-wife, kids, etc). The plan is to get back to it but the aircraft and instructor are both hard to come by where I fly.
Kevin, Another great video. I have always loved the views of the tip tanks. When I had my 310 that was the best view from the inside. I thought it was funny when you were talking about spatial disorientation (vertigo) and keeping the shiny side up (very important) but with your aircraft which side isn't shiny? LOL. Definitely a very important subject as many accidents have resulted from this. Nicely done. :). Great trip and, even with the throttle friction mentioned, good night landing (they are definitely more difficult than day time). Stay safe and looking forward to your next aviation adventure with 1BC. RL PS Just received my July issue of TTCF and lo and behold...great cover and article. Good for you. Very nice!
Kevin, You gained a subscriber today. I’ll have to play catch up on the videos but the ones I have watched are great. Love the destinations, the technical explanations and enjoy seeing the upgrades to the aircraft. Your channel has it all. 😎
Armchair pilot here! Really appreciate the explanations! Looking forward to finish my GA license some day, meantime getting excited for FlightSim 2020 to follow some of your flight plans! Keep up the Aviation nerding!
Looked like you did float quite a ways down runway 33 before touchdown, Kevin. Been there, done that! Usually when I was a little fast or a little late getting the power to idle with a resulting float, the touchdown was less than satisfying and I managed to use up too much runway, kind of a lose-lose. Last airplane I flew in the corporate world was a Gulfstream G-280. That airplane would float all the way down the runway if you weren't careful. A real clean airframe and the wing was very low to the ground aggravating ground effect. Now I'm a taildraggin pilot. Stinson guy.
As I watched it, I thought that seemed like a long touchdown point for that runway. Glad you pointed out the throttle cut/friction lock issue. Another great vid !!!!!!
Those of us who aren't pilots or aviation geeks don't understand the meaning of the terms y'all use. IFR VFR And many more..so any time you can explain them I enjoy it..
As a non-pilot enthusiast with many hours as “observer” or “ballast” I appreciate explanations of things like “actual”. Thanks for letting us ride along.
Glad you liked it Kent! I get comments sometimes asking for further explanations on things so I'll try to incorporate more of that in future videos.
@@310Pilot what's the panel by your left leg?
@William, if you are referencing the squarish area that has a bunch of things that look like buttons and switches on the top row, that is the circuit breaker panel. They all pop out if the circuit trips and the switches at the top control the exterior lighting, de-ice controls and a couple other minor things.
@@310Pilot ohh ok .
I really like the extreme close up of the gauges, amazing clarity.
Thanks for the feedback...I'll try to incorporate that some more. I just did a flight with a close up most of the flight to show instrument approaches and single engine autopilot work. :)

Nice round trip 2nd leg. One request: Takeoffs, approaches and landings are often the most interesting parts of the flight so feel free not to speed them up... Viewers can do that if they are bored. Thanks, Kevin! Keep them coming!
Those new landing lights really work well. Great upgrade.
‘73 was a particularly fine vintage but I am slightly biased. Great video Kevin.
I think I heard you say in one of your other videos that you are a CFI. From the way you explained everything in this video, I think you would make an excellent instructor. If I were still flying, and we lived closer together, you would be my go to guy. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for the nice compliment Paul! I do have my CFI/MEI but I'm not current with it right now. I do plan on dusting it off one of these days. :)
You guys need a vacation! I always get excited when your country intro turns to Caribbean music 😁
Amen!! We start a vacation run to a lake in Virginia on Friday's video. We for sure need some Caribbean in our lives soon hopefully! :)
Nice flight Kevin. You're right "It never gets old" when ya love flying! enjoyed the video as usual looking forward to the next one thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew and thank you for the feedback. Jaime and I head for her first trip to Virginia on tomorrow's video. :)
Sweet...enjoy the trip ..looking forward to the video!
I like that cabin width. I have spent a LOT of time in the right seat of a 58 Baron., That is pretty narrow, the pilot and I would stagger our seats a bit, so my shoulder would not be into his.
Love your videos. I’m going resume flying lessons when this is all over.
"1973 designed airplane?" Hey! I graduated high school in 1970! In 1973 I was full of vinegar and no fear of death! That plane is a strong, safe, and reliable classic!! Fly high my friend!
great vid Kevin ... shout out to the ATC who said he watches your channel ... Cheers for bringing us all along Kevin
Love the explanations for those of us who are non-pilots!
Love those new lights!!
Love the aviation geek stuff. I have my license but I live the pilot life thru UA-cam only at this time. So please keep the info flowing. 8-)
Thoroughly enjoy it when you nerd out.
I don’t know about older or other Skyhawks but the sp models i fly have a little pieces of fiber optic right up in front of the navs and strobes and they go into the tips and out the bottoms of the tips so you can see that they’re working
Very interesting video, Kevin. Thanks for the technical explanations! Looks like a tight fit in the hangar!
Your new landing lights are awesome - really lit up the runway!
Night footage turned out great. Keep up the good work and thanks for the explanations, for us non pilots, of aviation lingo and requirements. 👍
Beautiful night landing . I can't imagine what Christie would have thought seeing that fuel spill . Stay safe......
You always have such great information about flying, I've heard things that I never thought about since unfortunately, I'm not a pilot.
Thanks for the explanations, Kevin. And for the night flying footage. Very cool.
Armchair pilot here! Really appreciate the explanations! Looking forward to finish my GA license some day, meantime getting excited for FlightSim 2020 to follow some of your flight plans! Keep up the Aviation nerding!
Always a pleasure to watch! ~ From one Sky nerd to another
Just had my first night time experience this week getting my Private. What a different ball game it is... Great video!
Congrats on your first night flight Charlie! It's a different but fun world. :)
310 Pilot thank you!
The new landing lights look great on approach to landing.
I agree David. It was a great upgrade!
So much fun, thanks for taking the time. I know there is a lot involved putting these together.
You gotta avoid the built-in commercials! Love this channel.
Those of us who aren't pilots or aviation geeks don't understand the meaning of the terms y'all use. IFR VFR And many more..so any time you can explain them I enjoy it..
Always enjoy your videos, Kevin and this time I enjoyed your night time flying and the various explanations you gave during the flight.
Believe in your instruments! Love your new lights!
