    This set is in great shape and the previous owner said they only had light duties. There are a few little blemishes here and there but they are in great soaps overall.
    Quality - 7.0
    This is well built set of speakers, especially considering the low price. A couple gripes are the sharp edges and how the wood grain vinyl meets on corners. Feels like they might delaminate over time and the grills feel like they might break, if you don’t use two hands to remove them.
    Sound - 8.0
    For the prices these could be had when new, this might have been a top performance/cost winner.
    I was very impressed with the sound these inexpensive speakers put out. Nice clear highs, excellent dynamics and seem pretty easy to drive loudly.
    MSRP Rating - 9.0
    Top marks here. You would be hard pressed to find better speakers in this price range and even slight above.
    Aesthetics - 6.0
    These aren’t going to knock your socks off in the looks department but they have a pretty simple and attractive design. I like the curved cabinets and the size of the speakers.
    Price Paid Value - 6.0
    $275 is a great price for this set and they will make someone happy for many years to come. I’ve just had some pretty remarkable deals over the years so these didn’t score as highly as they could have.

      I think your going to be in for a real treat, especially considering the amount invested. Just make sure you spend a good amount of time getting it all setup correctly, especially the subs.
      I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in someone’s house, with amazing equipment and walked out disappointed.
      Setup is key.

      I actually have 4 of the Atmos bookshelf speakers sitting about 6’ from me at the moment.
      I should be reviewing them in a week or so. I’ve just been putting this review off, as I will need to dismantle my system AGAIN and run additional wires for the Atmos modules.
      Still pretty excited to try Atmos in my little place for the first time!

    Fun fact: if you want to take this system a few levels up, the klipsch rp250c blends perfectly without correction needed and brings an even better movie and music experience than the stellar center channel in this system.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  3 роки тому

      That center is definitely a step up from this center. Only problem is that you’ll likely want to upgrade your L/R once you’ve upgraded to the RP-250C:)

      @@blazermdx so true story, I ordered an elac c6.2 and wow. Much better quality build, and much better quality sound than the rp250c. It also blends even better, to the point where the c5.2 or c6.2 is a must have for any pioneer Andrew jones setup. It Actually makes me look forward to many more years of enjoyment. 👍

    I dunno why I am commenting on this just now.
    Anyway about the horrible grills + brightness... Andrew Jones designed this to be used with the grills with no toe-in. He was assuming the most common use case for a starter setup. So the brightness was to account for the losses caused by the plastic cage/grill (yes it is quite horrible) and no-toe in use.
    Weird but I actually like the brightness of these. I use it with toe-in but with the cage/grills. What I noticed is it sounds bright but not shrill. So I dunno what frequencies it was designed to intentionally have a dip it but it gives a good balance between being exciting enough but being okay to have long listening sessions with.
    Looks-wise I like the curve but hate the grill. I don't exactly like the pill shape but I am still too scared to use it without the grill.
    Also, the curve makes wall mounting them as rear speakers a bit more difficult compared to most speakers. This is for clamp type wall mounts for rear speakers (or should we call them side speakers? Whichever).
    De-lamination isn't a problem unless you use strong adhesives like 3M mounting tape to stick them on speaker stands. Yes mine have de-laminated at the bottom because of that. My bad. Otherwise it won't de-laminate.
    For the price these are one of the best deals, even in second-hand market. As long as they are cheap you can't go wrong.
    The floorstanders ones are pretty good too... :)

    Looks like Dennis Murphy came out with a tweeter/crossover mod for the BS22/C22, involving a swap to a Peerless by Tymphany/Vifa BC25TG15-04 tweeter, simple crossover mod is to add a 3.9uF cap in series for the BS22 and 2R2 resistor/3.9uF for the center channel

    I believe these are around 83 dB sensitivity-which is pretty low. Andrew Jones seems to design low sensitivity speakers. He feels they perform better overall than those with higher sensitivity.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 роки тому +2

      I was doing some research last night and it appears that 83db is around what people have been reporting. That’s the lowest sensitivity I have come across in a while.
      With that said, seemed pretty easy to drive to extreme levels, off my Marantz. I am sure my Denon would have been able to do the same.

    Would you have gave it a better score if you had the Pioneer floor standing L/R speakers that actually come in the 5.1 system?

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 роки тому +2

      I don’t think I would have rated them higher with the towers, but I don’t really know for sure as I haven’t owned them.
      I would take a bookshelf system with a subwoofer over a tower system without a subwoofer any day.
      With that said, I would take a tower system with a subwoofer over a bookshelf system with subwoofer.
      It really depends on the room and listening habits though. Larger rooms and higher volumes, these bookshelf speakers might not have enough oomph.
      Properly integrated subwoofer/subwoofers can eliminate quite a bit of strain on your speakers, allow them to play louder and provide deep bass towers just can’t accomplish.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 роки тому +1

      I think that center sounds just fine. It obviously isn’t going to complete with the bigger, more expensive center channels out there but that isn’t this center channel’s mission.
      With that said, the dialogue sounded nice and clear and the male voices had some “weight” to them, which is required for quality audio out of a center.
      The Andrew Jones, Pioneer speakers are pretty well regarded, especially when you are including the pricing. These are known to perform well above their MSRP prices would suggest.
      Many people online just think their brand of speakers is better than other brands of speakers and they are quick to share their biased opinions on gear they’ve never owned. I have even been known to do this when I’m not paying attention.
      What center are you using now, so I can try to help guide you to see if this the right center for you.

      @@blazermdx I have one those old Polk kits sold over 15 years ago. Im older, and my hearing is not perfect anymore so Im thinking of getting better speakers with a bit of money. I have been eyeing the BS22 and even the FS52, they do sound very impressive but the reports about the center speaker are not very good especially with voices which is exactly what the center is for. Theres alot of reviews for the front speakers but curiously enough not a whole lot for the sp-c22.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 роки тому +1

      This is where many factors and some subjectivity comes into play.
      My room is small and I was powering that “little” SP-C22 center with some clean power from my Marantz amp.
      There’s really only so much someone can expect out of a center with 4” woofers and sized cabinet (not small not large). I found at reasonable sound levels, with the center bumped up slightly like I almost always do, the dialogue was clear and had some depth. Would it complete with the Klipsch RC-62 or Paradigm Studio centers? No, but it will perform well above the price you can grab these for.
      I did have them crossed over at 80hz though, because the set came with the matching subwoofer. The speakers had a much “easier” life than most out there.
      It’s will meet and beat most people’s expectations, given it’s low cost, especially on the used market. ~ $60

      I need to invest in a better microphone but this channel is already taking up time and some money. Trying to hit a couple subscriber milestones and then treat my self to some audio and video goodies. Just hoping to hit the milestones first:)
      People will still complain that UA-cam videos don’t offer an accurate representation of how a system actually sounds. After all, we are using a microphone to record the audio, sending that audio to who knows what source where the sound goes through an unknown sound producer into someone’s ears and everyone has slightly different opinions on what sounds good. Who’s to say they’re wrong? With that said, I still love watching home theater or home audio gear videos, like many of the weirdos like us who like watching home audio videos😆
      I just want the sound I am offering my subscribers, or anyone just stopping by to check out some cool audio gear, the best (within reason) audio I can provide.
      I truly appreciate the idea! Center channel shootout has a nice ring to it..

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 роки тому +1

      Is there a particular reason you want to give these speakers more power than that Denon provides? These are efficient little speakers and that Denon should have plenty of power to drive those speakers near their volume limits, comfortably.
      I just looked up that Crown amp and it is a beast, just seems like massive overkill for these speakers. Some might not agree with me here so hopefully someone will chime in, with feeding these speakers that much power.
      It will work just fine, since it appears that Denon has pre-outs. And I bet it would sound fine, I just don’t believe it’s necessary.
