I asked the lady at the boutique and she was like, "Oh, her name is Amy Winehouse" So shoot, I ran to buy her album. But when I seen she was white and from England. I had heard of Amy Winehouse before. Her name had often been in the media. I remember particularly when she died. I embarrassed to say I had just dismissed her as another drug involved singer. For some reason, i decided to listen to one of her songs two days ago, just to get better sense of why she was so popular. I was blown away, and i cannot stop listing to her music. She is captivating. Absolutely one of the most talented artists( both in performing and writing), that I have ever heard in my life. So sorry she's gone.

      my sentiments, exactly. from the tender age of 14...I felt this woman knew my soul. Perhaps she did. And she spoke to all that I would endure, for many years to come. And she created, so that I would forever be reminded that my triumphs and heartaches are not unique. Her gift was more than vocal. It was an innate ability to actualize an incredible spell of love, and life, and tenderness, and loneliness. Yes, I knew her soul as well. I vow that her legacy will forever live. My children's children will know just how this woman saved my life by engraining my experiences into song.

    In a live performance of Back to Black it's also visible she is crying. In her version of A Song For You it comes through just how much a true MAESTRO she is....Salaam was explaining how the song came about....they were moving recording equipment from the studio to Amy's house, just after finishing Amy grabbed her guitar and started singing A Song For You, unbeknownst to Amy one of the production technicians started recording. Salaam goes on to say that after awhile Amy became very emotional but continued singing and after awhile tears were flowing down her face.....mascara running down her cheeks. During so Amy was feeling her way through the cords, the result is what you hear when you listen to the song. He said by the end she was full on crying, afterwards he said she just came and sat on his lap. I ask...who is capable of doing such....this song is a testament to her GENIUS...Salaam said he wishes he would have video recorded it....there's no other PICASSO, no other REMBRANDT no other MICHAELANGELO and will never be another
    AMY WINEHOUSE.

    Can you imagine how much of a gift, and a curse it was of the success of Back to Black for her. The emotions it brings her performing songs like these when she's trying to move on, and writing those songs brought a sense of closure for her. It took everything in her to finish this performance of the song. You can see her clearly becoming emotional at about 0:44 into the song. By 1:50 she's holding back tears not only to finish, but also the fact that they were recording, and filming her as well.

    • @AnthonyChats
      @AnthonyChats 6 років тому +6

      I always had the same thought as you, especially after discovering her first album called Frank. She's still super edgy on the album, but it's from a place of power. Basically calling out the men in her life as little bitches. Back to Black is the opposite, where she's been defeated by a man. She was obviously in a dark place when she crafted it. Then one day, I actually did find a live performance here on UA-cam - that I've since lost - where she started talking before she sang. She was standing there with a bottle, drinking something, and says something along the lines of, "You know, you write these songs and you have to sing 'em over and over. It's depressing, man." I don't remember verbatim what she said, but I do remember her saying, "It's depressing." It really hit me because if confirmed my hypothesis that she was living in a vicious cycle. Blake and the drugs were the worst things in her life, but they also contributed to her greatest successes. She had to live in them. She could never really move on.

    She was everything. Everything. Amy, you gave this world everything you had within you. Laid your soul bare. It’s a very brave thing to walk through life so unarmored. Many laughed at it. I know the pain you endured was unimaginable and yet you continued to give so much despite of it. I will forever be thankful to you for that. You were the REAL thing. The love you had for your craft was so genuine. Never a sell-out. Never cheapened up. Every single thing you ever made had weight to it. I defended your name at 9, I defend it still at 24 (2020), and I’ll defend it till the day I die. Miss you forever. I love you forever. Thank you forever. Amy forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever
    and ever

    There are so many things that make Amy Winehouse the epic talent that she was and 4eva will be, but this time imma say this one. She never performed the vocal to a song the same way twice and every time she sang, you got 💯 of her real emotions and she'd bare her fckin soul in each note.

    Amy you put me in that place between sadness when I see you perform this (because I miss you so)...and not being able to turn away because you are so majestic, fragile, soulful. You were an angel borrowed from the heavens. I wish you were still here..you are loved madam.

    So terribly sad. No one really saw just how broken her heart was. Sometimes the heart can be so broken, along with all this fame, leading to a broken, lonely and empty soul, feeling worthless. She was truely so lonely.
    Her family and band members definitely let her down! They should have gotten her to a psychologist to deal with her emotions and fix her broken heart, and then she would have been been ready to heal. She would have been bigger than anyone if she was taken care of and still writing and singing music today. I honestly wonder how many grammys she would have had today, if she was still alive! She was one of a kind - so talented, but a broken heart - is what truely ruined her in the end!

    I don't know why so many people keep saying that Amy wasn't comparable to other members in the 27 Club. Of course, amy was new and the others were all super talented. No one can ever doubt Hendrix's mojo when it comes to guitar playing. But... Did Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison ever write lyrics as emotionally profound as this? I really don't think so

    Someone I know died of an overdose a couple days back, and I couldn’t help think of Amy. Another uniquely exceptional person hijacked and destroyed by drugs and alcohol. And then it hit me that I have lost more people to intoxicants than to anything else. I say this as a survivor myself. 7 months sober and wholeheartedly grateful. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to stay alive long enough to reach it.

    she reminds me that love has no limits, it does not have no definition, but we are sure at the end of the day, that, love hurts. especially, if you would do anything to have that moment, when everything is perfect, when everything makes sense. for a change, it makes sense.
