Holy shit, what are the odds, your very first musical guest on your very first late night show, both are still at the top of their game and going strong.
Both showed up with poor reviews and unoriginality, but over time proved to be much better and are now considered some of the greatests of all-time within their respective fields.

How epic that this was Conan's first musical guest? Seriously...best band of the 90s!
They still are the best. They got better my dude if you have not heard any of their new stuff.
Wrong. Pavement is the best band of the ‘90s.
How about Nirvana
How about Hootie?
Not close to being the best band of the 90s.
I love that he changes the vocalization quite a bit every time he sings it! It's never static!
Creep being a very, I would say, "uncomfortable" song probably just works better when it's a little bit... unhinged. Thematically speaking. Same goes for the guitarist for example -the way he just shreds the strings angrily makes it all work in line with the song's subject.
@@axelolord That actually makes the song and sets the mood of angst and frustration. This song is so complex. Layers of really incredible artistry both lyrically and musically. I think that is why everybody loves it. I don't think thematically that anyone else has touched this theme of crushing on someone and the awkwardness of it all. Very relatable to everyone on the planet!
@@axelolord Thom and Johnny hate this song and Johnny's aggressive guitar playing was him trying to ruin the song so they wouldn't have to record or release it.
@@JaredAdamsMusic they specifically disliked it because they knew it was derivative of another song
He wants to have control
'Your skin makes me cry". The pain in that lyric is so deep and sad. Watched this dozens of times and just noticed how restrained and disciplined the bass and drums are. While the singing and guitars are going manic, they stay in their lane and provide a much needed balance to the song. That is truly great musicianship.

Radiohead may have hated playing this song... but I couldn't love it any more than I do. its so amazing.
It's because they don't get royalties for it. They were successfully sued for copyright infringement by the Hollies.
@@Fearzero nope, they hated it well before that
@@kevinb9n Is that a fact?
I don't think they hated it. They just hated that it threatened to make them a one hit wonder, as back then I believe it was the only song anyone asked about or wanted to hear. They wanted to be more than that, and so developed a disliking to playing the song live. These days they play it again, as they are a long way from a one hit wonder band now and so it does not threaten them.
From interviews with Thom, it has more to do with the fact that when he wrote the song he felt this way- he had a crush on a beautiful woman at his college, but felt he couldn't even talk to her. Later, with this song a huge hit, they played their college town & he spotted her up front singing along - she had no idea the song was about her. He said that he no longer felt the way he did when he wrote the song, so there was a period where he wasn't interested in playing it. It's also probably because this song is pretty uncharacteristic for them as a band, having that (Pixies) Nirvana feel of quiet/loud dynamics - when bands are starting out, producers and labels will push for that 'hit single' no matter what - and even when it is a hit, it may not be the band's favorite.
Who knew that only 4 years later those lads would release probably the greatest album of all time

I respect that Radiohead hates this song, but damn it is great. My favorite is "Just", don't know why but when I first saw that video on MTV, a switch flipped and I became a fan. Their entire catalog is gold, each album has something different to offer. Genius.

@@jessicafalcon00 they apparently just got sick of discussing it in every interview and playing it at every show. Look up the mtv beach house performance. Mtv made them do multiple takes and Thom was livid, you can see it in his delivery. He jumped in the pool in frustration with a hot mic and was almost electrocuted.
Probably because they dont make alot of money with it, came out and had the same exact chord progressions, timing, bpm...was so erriely accurate to the hollies song air that i breath...they had to shell out songwriting credits half of royalties and even money they made off the song in the 90s.
