Switching the modes directly on the handle is a definite improvement. I don't use the mimo app because using bluetooth with the app on my iphone SE2 will deplete the phone battery very fast. I'm still using my OM4 for the past year and am still happy with it. Thanks for the detailed review, you do reviews better than all the other tech channels
Was thinking of getting the Om5 for some recording at our next trip to Disneyland, however with the extension I believe it would be prohibited. Disney banned selfie sticks so that was my worry. Om4 se looks impressive and should fit the bill.

In regards to the “low shots” with the OM 4 SE, couldn’t you just hold gimbal inverted? The camera will orient right side up anyway. You can get as low as you can without hitting the ground.
Have they bothered to fix the gimbals so they can be used by a left hander? The OSMO 2 was the last one that was left hander friendly allowing to under sling for low shots. Nothing new though, most of the world forgets about left handers.
Correct me if i am wrong, but surprised you didn’t mention battery life. The OM 4 offers up to 15 hours, where as the OM 5 only has 6.4 hours. The cheaper price and battery life is why I’ll be purchasing the OM 4, the OM 5 doesn’t have enough extra benefit.

I had a Hohem gimbal ($100 beginner model) and it got in the way of itself while in portrait mode. I kept seeing it in my iPhones lense. It really ruined my day of content creation. Do you think either OSMO can handle that as well as the weight of my 13 Pro? TIA
Yes, the OM5 has been designed with the iPhone 13 Pro in mind, the OM4 SE will also handle it perfectly well. You shouldn’t have any issues with either of these gimbals.
Hmmmm, great question! Both are good options but I would personally go for the Pocket 2. I love that camera system, it is nice to have a dedicated camera system with a bunch of modes and filming options. The 3 axis gimbal is significantly better on the Pocket 2 in my opinion and it is a discreet camera system for when you’re filming in public 📷
It will be my first gimbal, which one do you advise me to buy? I'm from Brazil. I'm in doubt between 4 and 5. It would be for me to improve the capitation of the videos
They are both great gimbals, I would recommend the OM5 - I like the extension rod and the ability to capture lower angle shots with the adjustable head on the gimbal.

I thought the same about the screen but it does an awesome job for such a small screen. I prefer the stabilisation, camera quality and shooting modes from the Osmo Pocket over the options that the Osmo Mobile and my smartphone can offer me. Your experience with the Osmo Mobile will depend entirely on the phone that you’re using.

You can still use the default camera app but the buttons on the Osmo won’t work - the quality from the DJI app is great, the better the camera, the better the video quality. Can you go into an electronics store and see if you can use the demo model with your phone 📱?
I haven't seen this answered before, can you use the telescopic extended selfie stick upside down? So instead of breaking my back leaning down to take video can I just stand upright and use the extended handle to take video near ground level?
Yes, you can. This is why I like the OM5, you can angle the head of the gimbal up to the sky so you can stand more upright and not bend down to get low shots.
I returned my om 4 se because the memo app would make my iPhone 13 pro overheat very quickly to where I couldn't see my screen then give the overheating warning. any tips?

It does offer a unique filming perspective and more opportunities for filmmakers to capture footage on their own (I can use a table and the extension rod to set this up as a tripod). You can’t do that with the OM4 SE, you would have to carry a tripod around.
You can still use the software from your phone but it might not interface with the buttons on the gimbal. You can still record videos/take photos while the gimbal (hardware) is working.

Yes, I’m sure you can. The gimbals can be used to control the direction of the phone and then you can use Filmic Pro for the recording. You might need to use the touchscreen to record as I don’t think the record button on the gimbals will be mapped to third party apps, I might be wrong though. Try contacting Filmic Pro directly?
The om4 se is the perfect one imo there’s no point paying an extra $50-80 for just a few more hours of battery and a magnet when there’s plenty of battery life already and there’s still a magnet in there
If you want to do anything beyond filming slow subjects and holding it steadily at eye level it’s fine. But if not, DO NOT buy either. The om4 is a truly terrible gimbal. A gimbal is supposed to enable you to be creative with your filming angles and make it easy for you. The om4 and 5 does anything but that: 1) the vertical tilt is embarrassing. It only tilts up and down by 30 degrees (incredibly, on the om5 it’s even less). This means when you hold it at waist level, the handle design naturally tilts it downward, so when you try to tilt up, you can’t. All you get is ground shots. Like he said, the low angle shots are terrible. The most BASIC shot you can do with a gimbal is low to high shots or in reverse. They both fail in this regard and do not make it easy for you. 2) you constantly have to recenter it. There are cheaper gimbals that recenter perfectly snd this just doesnt. Try using follow mode, move about a bit by turn left, right up and down, then return to your start position. The gimbal will not be where it started and you constantly have to recenter it. NOT good and a nightmare when you’re filming in motion. 3) tracking insanity: when it loses track of a subject its following with tracking mode, instead of going back to follow mode (like any sensibly designed gimbal should), it just foes beserk and the footage gets ruined. 4) stability. The shots when running are not smooth compared to other gimbals. Apparently you have to turn off your iphones stabilisation for it to work but the other don’t have this issue and really it should not be this difficult. Point 1 alone is enough to not buy either. To me, it’s embarrasing that they fail in such simple requirements for a functional gimbal. The nice app and packaging and other features don’t mean a thing if you don’t have freedom in all 3 axes. Let alone the recentering nightmare or tracking or stabilisation issues - these three should be simple software fixes. What were DJI thinking when they designed them? The Zhiyun smooth 5 and Feiyutech g6 max are far superior gimbals because they let you do all of the above without you constantly having to either contort yourself or manually readjust every error.
Yes, I experienced a few of these limitations. Smartphone gimbals are very basic and limited in comparison to high end gimbals but for their target audience (everyday consumers), they do the job.
@@DansTubeTV the hohem i steady + is almost half the price and does everything properly. I think the om4 is genuinely a terrible gimbal. Theyre supposed to make your life easier right? What good is it if the gimbal cannot do a low to high shot or cannot follow and always ends up being out of whack after just a few turns in follow mode? It fails in its most basic functions. That’s what makes it a poor gimbal.

I would recommend going into a DJI store or retailer to see if they have a test unit that you can use. I don’t believe that the clamp accommodates for phone cases but there is another attachment piece in the box that you might be able to use. I just remove my phone from the case.
I found stark difference in battery capacity... and especially if I plan to take while heading to mountains 6 hours battery backup vs 14 in Om4Se .. is 6 hours enough for intermittent recording ?
I just got the om 5 and if you double tap to level and aim straight it doesn’t work well unless the handle is almost straight up and down. Even a slight angle and the camera view aims toward the ground. Does the 4se do that too?
This is not a review it’s a commercial for DJI. If this was an actual review he should have noticed that DJI made a gimbal that as of today does not officially support iPhone 13’s! Also, a gimbal that struggles with the weight of an iPhone 12 Pro Max let alone a 13 Pro Max or Samsung 20/21 vibrating, motors going into protection mode and even when “working” a slight breeze or brisk walk unnerves the gimbal and causes visible shake in your video. A gimbal whose key “features” are 100% software based such as Active Track 4.0 and ShotGuides which are purposefully withheld from the OM4 by DJI to try and sell OM5’s. The selfie stick, neat sure except when you extended it the gimbal becomes even more unstable. Because, you know physics. Let’s talk Mimo app. Why are phones native camera app features NOT supported. Slow motion locked to one speed, Dolby Digital missing and even worse on Android. If your going to review, REVIEW and don’t be yet another UA-cam shill for manufacturers.
Hey Jorge, I shared my honest opinion, I mentioned that wind impacts on the motors and makes the footage unstable. I also talk about how the motors can struggle to capture smooth footage in certain situations. I even talk about how smartphone gimbals aren’t my preference and how I would prefer high end gimbals. I don’t think so but I wouldn’t be recording for long enough to let it become a problem. Battery life was never an issue for me 🔋

isnt the tilt range really bad for the om5. also it doesnt support filmic pro either.
The tilt range can be bad but you can adjust the head of the gimbal to accomodate for that. I can’t comment on Filmic Pro, I’ve never tested it.

In my opinion, smartphone gimbals don’t improve drastically between new versions. The OM5 will be fine 📱
the price difference is too large imo ,in england the 4 is £80, which i just bought and the 5 is £140, thats almost twice as expensive..

Just a matter of interest Dan. If you walk straight ahead, do you still get a bouncy affect and not smooth.
If you walk normally then yes, you have to do a ninja 🥷 walk to get buttery smooth footage, or you could fix it up in post production.

SO i cannot use the Gimbal without the software? What if i rather use my pixel 6 pro's software? Which gimbal is good then?
You can still use the software from your phone but it might not interface with the buttons on the gimbal. You can still record videos/take photos while the gimbal (hardware) is working.

Yes, I’m sure you can. The gimbals can be used to control the direction of the phone and then you can use Filmic Pro for the recording. You might need to use the touchscreen to record as I don’t think the record button on the gimbals will be mapped to third party apps, I might be wrong though. Try contacting Filmic Pro directly?

The om4 se is the perfect one imo there’s no point paying an extra $50-80 for just a few more hours of battery and a magnet when there’s plenty of battery life already and there’s still a magnet in there
What about the extension rod? Do you find that useful or more of a gimmick?

The average person will not need the extra battery life. They both give you enough battery life for typical use.

If you want to do anything beyond filming slow subjects and holding it steadily at eye level it’s fine. But if not, DO NOT buy either.
The om4 is a truly terrible gimbal. A gimbal is supposed to enable you to be creative with your filming angles and make it easy for you. The om4 and 5 does anything but that:
1) the vertical tilt is embarrassing. It only tilts up and down by 30 degrees (incredibly, on the om5 it’s even less). This means when you hold it at waist level, the handle design naturally tilts it downward, so when you try to tilt up, you can’t. All you get is ground shots. Like he said, the low angle shots are terrible. The most BASIC shot you can do with a gimbal is low to high shots or in reverse. They both fail in this regard and do not make it easy for you.
2) you constantly have to recenter it. There are cheaper gimbals that recenter perfectly snd this just doesnt. Try using follow mode, move about a bit by turn left, right up and down, then return to your start position. The gimbal will not be where it started and you constantly have to recenter it. NOT good and a nightmare when you’re filming in motion.
3) tracking insanity: when it loses track of a subject its following with tracking mode, instead of going back to follow mode (like any sensibly designed gimbal should), it just foes beserk and the footage gets ruined.
4) stability. The shots when running are not smooth compared to other gimbals. Apparently you have to turn off your iphones stabilisation for it to work but the other don’t have this issue and really it should not be this difficult.
Point 1 alone is enough to not buy either. To me, it’s embarrasing that they fail in such simple requirements for a functional gimbal. The nice app and packaging and other features don’t mean a thing if you don’t have freedom in all 3 axes. Let alone the recentering nightmare or tracking or stabilisation issues - these three should be simple software fixes. What were DJI thinking when they designed them?
The Zhiyun smooth 5 and Feiyutech g6 max are far superior gimbals because they let you do all of the above without you constantly having to either contort yourself or manually readjust every error.

Yes, I experienced a few of these limitations. Smartphone gimbals are very basic and limited in comparison to high end gimbals but for their target audience (everyday consumers), they do the job.
@@DansTubeTV the hohem i steady + is almost half the price and does everything properly. I think the om4 is genuinely a terrible gimbal.
Theyre supposed to make your life easier right? What good is it if the gimbal cannot do a low to high shot or cannot follow and always ends up being out of whack after just a few turns in follow mode?
It fails in its most basic functions. That’s what makes it a poor gimbal.

I would recommend going into a DJI store or retailer to see if they have a test unit that you can use. I don’t believe that the clamp accommodates for phone cases but there is another attachment piece in the box that you might be able to use. I just remove my phone from the case.

I found stark difference in battery capacity... and especially if I plan to take while heading to mountains 6 hours battery backup vs 14 in Om4Se .. is 6 hours enough for intermittent recording ?

The 4SE is great, I haven’t used the other gimbal so I can’t comment on that one.

Nice 👍 what makes you say that?
I just got the om 5 and if you double tap to level and aim straight it doesn’t work well unless the handle is almost straight up and down. Even a slight angle and the camera view aims toward the ground. Does the 4se do that too?
I noticed that as well, I extend the pole of the OM5 and then angle the head of the pole upwards so that issue you’re describing doesn’t happen.
No om 4 is much better, has better angles and stronger motors I got both and om5 is disappointing especially with the price difference
Which one would you suggest for 2022? Is smooth good over osmo? Please suggest for about 100-150 USD

Yeah, but that is awkward and starts to get uncomfortable very quickly.
This is not a review it’s a commercial for DJI.
If this was an actual review he should have noticed that DJI made a gimbal that as of today does not officially support iPhone 13’s! Also, a gimbal that struggles with the weight of an iPhone 12 Pro Max let alone a 13 Pro Max or Samsung 20/21 vibrating, motors going into protection mode and even when “working” a slight breeze or brisk walk unnerves the gimbal and causes visible shake in your video. A gimbal whose key “features” are 100% software based such as Active Track 4.0 and ShotGuides which are purposefully withheld from the OM4 by DJI to try and sell OM5’s. The selfie stick, neat sure except when you extended it the gimbal becomes even more unstable. Because, you know physics.
Let’s talk Mimo app. Why are phones native camera app features NOT supported. Slow motion locked to one speed, Dolby Digital missing and even worse on Android.
If your going to review, REVIEW and don’t be yet another UA-cam shill for manufacturers.

I shared my honest opinion, I mentioned that wind impacts on the motors and makes the footage unstable. I also talk about how the motors can struggle to capture smooth footage in certain situations. I even talk about how smartphone gimbals aren’t my preference and how I would prefer high end gimbals. I appreciate your comment though! It is great to let people know that smartphone gimbals have limitations.

It always depends on your needs and budget. Get the OM5 if you can justify the price, otherwise the OM4 SE will do the job 😁
The clip part which holds the phone, are they identical pieces on both devices or is the 5 a different size to the 4?
They are the same size, I have used them interchangeably on the 5 and 4 SE.

The osmo 5 has a slightly larger phone clip than the osmo 4. Better for phones in cases. The part that attaches to the gimbal is the same size.
