This week, I created this solid granny square vest. Getting these huge granny squares to contour my body was a difficult process, but I'm hapy I did it :)

The final product doesn't have to he perfect but the pattern, absolutely! I basically rework it until I get a feel for what the best pattern would be :)

Romi, to save yourself time and a lot of extra work you can crochet over your tails of every color change row except for the very last which has to be sewn over. I usually leave myself a little bit longer tail than usual so it gives more stability. This method saves quite a bit of time and hassle from sewing in tons of loose tails.
Hi, kevin. Thank you! I usually do this, with the exception of the magic loop tail, which i haven't figured out how to neatly tuck away as i go.

The vest is gorgeous. I can see momma cooks good. I live in Chicago too. I'm going to be 68 this year. I'm a man that loves to crochet. I'm completing a baby blanket for my pastors at church. I used the corner to corner Stitch.

I like that you did the project with more affordable yarn! Personally I prefer to cough up the extra money for more premium yarn I hate the sound/feel synthetic yarns make when I work with them. Like nails on a chalkboard
It did make a super squeaky sound, and it's a bit scratchy. Will be back to my nice yarns for my next projects :)

I'm gonna be on your side from the get-go; I've been fully into making garments lately and have like exclusively used cotton and have tried a multitude of different cottons, and WATG Shiny Happy Cotton completely one of my faves! K+C from Joann is probably my tied 2nd with Hobbi's Friends 8/4. Both well priced, great quality, and accessible.
K and C would probably me my #1 if they had more colors. It's amazing for the pricepoint. Cotton rules!

This is so cool! I kind of wonder if it would be possible to adapt the pattern to accommodate extra space in parts of the front - not so much a women's version with more room in the chest (I'm sure those patterns exist!), but more how it might be adapted for men with a large gut but not as much fat in the chest or back, since that's relatively common in older men
You would just have to add two more rows of squares to the front (to keep everything centered) near the sleeve holes. That would widen the sleeves while keeping a similar neckline. I write up a pattern that shows how to adjust square placement for longer and wider bodies, since it can be pretty complicated with diagonals

Al hacer las mangas, puedes probar terminando con uno o dos puntos deslizados, (en lugar de punto bajo), eso hará que quede más justo al brazo, así lo he hecho también en el cuello de algunos sueters, puedes probarlo y me cuentas :)

Honestly don’t mind criticism of your fiber choices. You’re making wearables so the priority is how you feel with them next to your skin. People can be responsible for making use of their own stashes and fibers instead of dictating yours

I lost the label but it was something like super saver at joanns! Its a bit scratchy but love the amount. All my yarn balls from this project are still half unused!

Yeah self-taught but I've been told my patterns are good, which makes me super happy! I'm making a vid on how to design patterns soon :)

Slightly off topic, but I LOVE working with cotton yarn. I'm using Lion Brand Coboo for a project right now, and it's perfect. Some cottons break down pretty quickly with friction (I have a lanyard that isn't in fabulous condition...) but I still love using it. I say bring on the cotton! Woo!
Also, I haven't tried linen yarn yet, but I want to. I'd love some testing or recommendations if that's your thing. :)
Cotton rocks! Sure, I've never done a testing video because before because I'm scared that if i buy ten balls from different companies but don't like any that I'll be left with a bunch of yarn with no purpose. I'd love to do a "find the best cotton yarn" or something :)

looks 👍🏼. You keep calling them diagonal squares or half granny squares- they look like Granny triangles.
There's diff kinds of granny triangles so I am specifying so folks know it's a diagonal and not the more common equilateral.

@@NSynCreatively if you start as a rectangle it ends as such. Start on the edges and go back an forth. More info in the pattern :)
How were you allowed scissors on the flight?
If they are under i think 3inches long you can bring them!
