I'm autistic and I'm a girl. I am weird and my sensory issues and social skills affects the way I look and feel. People think I'm trans. I'm not. I'm a girl who has short hair, is only able to wear athletic shorts and t shirts, and hangs out with boys. My aitism contributes to all of this.

Autism is a thing that varies completely between everyone who has it, no two autistic people actually have the same disorder, it’s a spectrum that has infinite differences. A lot of people share some similarities but that’s because they’re common factors. There will always be different things like sensory preferences. So what this means is that autism makes someone different from one another the same way someone with a neurotypical mind is different to other neurotypical people. It technically has an effect on if you end up as trans or not. But the same argument can be made for someone who doesn’t have autism, or literally any other mental illnesses/disorders and whatnot. I’m autistic myself and I’m rather happy being a heterosexual sis male. And I’m happy with myself this way. It’s different for others because others are just always different, autistic or not.

I think the people who say that really mean “How do you know that once you deal with your autism symptoms that you’ll still feel like you’re trans?” You don’t. There are people who have said that once they managed their autism they realized it basically cleared up the idea that they were trans. I don’t see a problem with that at all. In fact, I think people with actual gender dysphoria would love to find ANY way to not have that feeling anymore (thus why they go through altering their bodies entirely). Thus, if you’re unwilling to manage your autism to possibly mitigate feelings of gender dysphoria, then perhaps you don’t have actual gender dysphoria? Point is, it does make sense why it matters.

Exactly. Like it's nice if we can learn more about this potential connection to better understand both being autistic and being trans, but it shouldn't influence how you treat a person. Autism or not people should still respect a person's gender identity, no reason to assume it's suddenly not real.

    THANK YOU!
My therapist specializes in autism; and she said she was going to a conference where they were potentially going to be discussing this very topic - high rates of gender dysphoria among autistic patients. She asked me my opinion.
I said, “WHO CARES? What, because they're autistic, does that suddenly make them NOT trans? Are autistic people incapable of knowing themselves?” (Later she said she quoted me in her talk at the conference, hahahaha.)
    But ya, it's PURE ablism.

I am autistic, gifted and identify as alexigender.
Yes, there is high rates of both alexithymia and self-perception/self-referential deficits in autism. And these overlap with transgenderism.
Also, it's part of a biologically healthy brain to have a certain degree of dependence on the social enviroment when differentiating your personality specially from your father and mother, and autistic individuals will not only be less influenced by their fathers and mothers which implicates in not learning social skills culturally mediated but also will not acquire the social skills in adolescence from friends which will help autistic individuals confront their parents and become aligned with adulthood.

I agree, and it seems logical that the people that are both on the spectrum and trans don't care. But still I feel like it is an interesting correlation, that could help us further understand things about both autism and being trans.

autism is one thing but I fucking hate it when people try to say its caused by trauma.

But it does happen sometimes, of course. It shouldn’t be ignored entirely. Many women have come forward saying they transitioned because they were sexually assaulted as children or teens and they felt their bodies weren’t theirs anymore, like they didn’t want the parts that made them attractive to men. It’s entirely valid and entirely valid to try and make sure that you’re not transitioning because of things like this.
