  • This is a short video comparing the updated Halftrack to the old version. There are some features I think people will like and some features people will not like.
    One of the biggest updates is the Gassamer G Frame that has replaced the old flexible aluminum stays.

    Overall it looks like the updates are pretty good. And a nice looking pack, one that's on my short list.

    Hi,
    Thanx for your review. I got this rucksack and it’s kind of a mix between the old and the new one.
    I still got the rainflaps on all zippers as well as the new load bearing system and the internal molle but no aluminum ledges.
    I like it that way, wouldn’t go without the new lb system.
    I’m from Europe, maybe there’s another version for the North American market.
    Stay safe

      Thanks for the feedback. Another commenter mentioned having a Halftrack just like yours.

    Hey thanks for the video. The gossimer frame works fine. I've hiked through alpine conditions, bush, ascents, descents, rocks, rain, snow and it works great! Also curiously, my version seems to sit somewhere between the two packs you presented. Just like the new model but with the old school molle all through it, plus it has the rain flaps. (bought it from platatac in Melbourne. Australia.) cheers 👍

      lindsay 87 Thanks for comment. It’s encouraging to read how well it’s worked out for you. Also, your pack design is curious. Maybe it was a transitional design. First, go with the Gossamer frame then add the new PALS webbing later. IDK

    I really was looking forward to seeing ur pack reviews, great! ;-) I purchased Eberlestocks V90 Battleship like 6 months ago paid about 480,000 in Korean Won..I got the same narrow molle webbings on my pack I kinda like it in 2 ways for low profile and reducing weight. I might gonna cut some out cause I would never use em really..
    One thing stupid about their customer service is that they have never given out any information on these updates..they still got same old pictures of older versions on their website..

      what is the lowest form of currency in your country? nearly 500,000 for a backpack seems inefficient. instead of a house costing 200,000 it would be like 200,000,000,000,000,000?

    • @militarygearjunkie2522
      @militarygearjunkie2522 6 років тому

      Ivan Strong its about $480..pricey!!!

    • @ivanstrong6354
      @ivanstrong6354 6 років тому

      +Park James totally I get that. but why call it 480,000. I'm sure you see the simplicity of 480 vs 480,000 right? is the smallest denomination of currency 1,000?

    Another difference is the pass through behind the side pockets is no longer pass through and unfortunately does not even have a drain hole. I plan to correct that at some point on mine.

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  6 років тому

      Yes, I noticed that too after I made the video. For the moment I'm happy they closed up the pas through pocket, because it allows me to put an extra machete or similar tool there.

    Great vid! Thank you. Are the side pocket lids thinner? They look lighter.

      Good question. From my observation I think they're the same. In any event they are holding up fine. Right now I'm using the side pockets to hold my Vivitar 58 inch tripod and My Ecotat survival bivy. No issues with it.

    Mines has the rain flaps, zippers, molle, and stays of the old but the back padding and closed bottom behind the side pockets of the new. I guess it’s a tweener year.

      Do you have the openings on the bottom of the side tunnel pockets? I have the same "1.5" version

  • @josephlynn85

    The 10mm webbing... I think they didn’t put it through out because it’s such a radical idea it’ll take a little getting use to

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  4 роки тому +1

      I agree. I like the idea behind it and it does work but at the same time the pouches do move more because of it.

    I just bought one online paid about 220,000 in Korean won..I got confirmation from them it is the newest version like the one in the video. I'm pretty much curious how gossamer frame would work for heavy loads..I like the overall specs but load carring ability is the most important to consider..btw is that thing in military green? looks like kind of foliage green in the video.

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  6 років тому

      You got a great price on the Halftrack. It's military green.

    • @militarygearjunkie2522
      @militarygearjunkie2522 6 років тому +1

      rjhisle1973 yes pretty much satisfied with the price :)
      Talking about the gossamer frame, one of my friends call it much better high technology than aluminum bars..he said he's been using other gossamer frame packs out there and they have been comfortable and rigid enough to support loads. Combining two of these aluminum and gossamer polycarbonate could be good? I don't know..Eberlestocks thought gossamer frame sheet is enough?

    That so weird. I have a mix between the two. Any tips on how to fit a larger sleeping bag inside while saving as much space as possible? I am tempted to keep the sleeping bag hanging on the webbing underneath the bag near the raincover. Thoughts?

    • @yoinky
      @yoinky 3 роки тому

      There's a 1.5 version that resembles the old style but without the tunnel pockets opening at the bottom.its the superior version because it has the best of both versions

    I got a request! can u make a review video on the halftrack just like the one you made for FAC TRACK?

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  6 років тому +1

      Let me see what I can do. I've ben looking for some updated info on the FAC Track. From what I've seen EB has gone to the 10mm PALS webbing on the interior just like the Halftrack, and uses the same style of zippers w/o the extra nylon to cover the zipper from the elements.

    Hi. Thanks for sharing.
    I own the old model and it's absolutely comfortable.
    Could you tell me how much weight saving has Eberlestock achieved with this new model? Is it worth?
    Thank you so much

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  6 років тому

      The weight savings is just a few ounces. From my understanding the old version weighed 6'12oz vs 6'7oz. for the new version . To be honest, the weight savings is nice, but I wouldn't upgrade to the new version just on weight savings alone. So if your old version is still good to go, then you might want to stick with it.
      However, with the rain flaps gone zipping and unzipping is a little easier.

  • @bwo680
    @bwo680 5 років тому +2

    Can you please weigh both and post their weights? I ask since you mention weight savings with the new one

    • @rjhisle1973
      @rjhisle1973  5 років тому +1

      Hi,
      Great Question.
      I found some interesting results for you.
      I don't have the old design anymore so I’ll use EBerlestock’s official numbers.
      Old Design 6.7 Pounds
      New Design 6.7 Pounds
      Now with that said it had been mentioned in other postings, videos etc that one reason for the use of less nylon in the new packs was to reduce weight, however it appears the Gossamer frame replacing the original aluminum stays may not have been calculated.
      I hope that helps.

    Will the pack a large guy ? 6.3 240 lbs

    • @rjhisle1973

      It should easily. The harness will adjust to different heights and the hip belt is generous.
      I'm 5'11 and about 227 lbs and it fits me just fine.
