Mark, you are correct! I was a session drummer back in the early 70's in 4 major studios in the tri state area, N.J., NYC, Boston, and one in California. I was about 22 at the time, and when the first album by them was being put together and the demo was passed to studios, all the producers couldn't handle their incredible talents and so they were rejected because they said the masses wouldn't get it and it would have knocked all the other music off the charts that they had invested in. The band I was doing drum tracks for was called Airborne, and we were at the House of Music in West Orange N.J. When the engineer put the 2" black reel on the deck and played it for us, we were so blown away hearing it on the big ass studio speakers, that the band I was recording with didn't even want to finish our album!. I have the original 1st album and will never give it up. I am 70 now and still play and write music, and when I mention Klaatu I always get the dear in the head lights look! hahahahaha......Just thought you might like a little of their history from another musician at that time.

I was touring as an actor and we were in Aberdeen and this whole album was played in the pub ... I was captivated and had to go out and track it down. Wonderful production and musicianship. Why this band never got the appreciation they deserved is beyond me! We should write a concept musical together and give them the platform they deserve!
The fact that I am listening NOW, august '19 to comfort me says to me: they have MY appreciation, they wont be forgotten as long as I live. First time I heard it I was 16, I'm almost 55 now and not the only one listening to this ;-)
@@sunnya.2665 Many of my school camarades talked to me about this LP, when it actually was released in the school yard where I lived in Sweden. I was in on Sweet, Sparks well allright Roxy Music. And had not even discovered Pink FLoyd, Genesis, ELP, Yes etc at that time in 1977. But It was Klaatus music that led me to my right progressive way to appriciate those wonderful kind of music. This is a fantastic LP, one of the best ever made studio album. In my view of course!

I think it might be because when they released their first album their was a lot of mystery around them and people thought they were the beatles due to the band members not being credited on the album. People were disheartened when they found out they weren't the beatles so probably shunned them out of sheer stupidity.
Contrary to Joseph below, as a musician, songwriter, and producer, I've always thought this song was absolutely brilliant, like a symphonic composition with multiple movements. Loony? Perhaps, but that was what made it so mind-blowing. You didn't know what was coming next!

A dash of Beatles, an ounce of Zeppelin, a reaspoon of Moody Blues,...but mostly a glorious seascape of Klaatu all through. A symphony....the kind of album you can just crank up and listen to all the way through!

I think the main reason Hope didn’t take off as it should’ve was because it simply came out at the wrong time. If hope came out a decade earlier, it would have been looked at as one of the greatest concept albums of all time. Sadly progressive rock was on is way out at the time of its release and harder rock was taking center stage
Good old Beatles story... We loved the idea back then. The approximate, the mists above... no one knows anything specific. But there was something fascinating about the thought. From the middle the piece has something almost classical, like Peter Gabriel with Genesis in 'Selling England by the Pound'. The volume is classic. In both pieces a whole orchestra throws its power!!! That really opens the ears and the mind. Klaatu may not be Peter Gabriel... but their sound also has its own goodness. ...And look for something like this today... Much luck
Thing is, they sound nothing like the Beatles... maybe John Woloschuk's vocals sound somewhat similar to a cross between Paul and George, but that can be said of many artists (for example Elliott Smith, or Alex Chilton when he was in Big Star, and it is said about my own music sometimes too)... other than that, I can't believe people thought they were the Beatles... listen to any of Dee Long's songs, and he sounds more like Marc Bolan imo That said, the way I found out about Klaatu was the UA-cam video about how they were mistaken for the Beatles, that was what led me to them (and possibly many other younger fans like myself), so it's not all bad

A true Beatles fan can definitely scout some deep resemblances to their vocals. English accents, listen to Klaatu Hope album!! Definitely sounds like George Harrison. These albums came out when all of those crazy new synthesizers came about. Even if it were the Beatles, they would not want that revealed, that may have been a huge point. There are many erie ties to song titles, album art and even sounds like Linda Mc Cartney in alot of these songs. To me, the Beatles were best at playing mind games with the media and they knew they could get away with it. I dont know for sure and im sure the only ones who do are the very ppl that created this music. I think its way too evolved for 3 Canadians and the London Orchestra is even in there. Just way too deep lol. Either way ppl will believe what they want to believe, also there has been known cover ups in the music industry and anyone could have been paid off to keep the secret or cover it up as an intention. I listened to this album because this band was secretly thought to be the Beatles. Personally I don't see it so far, but I've only listened to a couple songs. It's definitely unique, but mostly just weird and I say this as a musician. Lastly the song was interrupted in the middle for commercial. Couldn't commercial be done before the song or after? Why does UA-cam have to bust a song up in the middle. Absolutely no one on earth wants to listen to music This Way. It's a kin to your favorite song having the major section deleted in order to fit the three minute cookie cutter song.... Whoever put this commercial in the song is very disrespectful. They want you to hear and don't care how they do it.

As for commercials in the middle of songs, it hasn't occurred to you that the subscription format for virtually ALL streaming formats is akin to blackmail? In the 70s and 80s NO ONE would've tolerated these media marketing models. "Pay a subscription fee or we'll annoy the hell out of you!" And it's worse if you do a free trial and then don't subscribe. Their business models are punitive and consumers put up with it.

Bei beiden Stücken wirft da ein ganzes Orchester mit seiner Power!!! Das öffnet so richtig die Ohren und den Geist. JMO: The first two albums are perfect from first note to last with maybe a few not as good as the others. The rest of their albums have some very good songs but also quite a few forgettable ones. I think they were quite exceptional in having the two perfectos.
At their peak, honestly yes. This album is stronger than every Beatles record. I don't think there is a band that was as consistently great as the Beatles though.
I'd say the "Hope" album is far superior as an album, to any albums the Beatles ever released (perhaps the only contender would be the White Album, but that is still not as good as Hope)... but you can't deny the fact the Beatles pretty much influenced everything that came after them

I've been asking this since my brother bought this on Vinyl and I wore out the grooves listening to it.

All the albums except endangered species are good in my eyes
JMO: The first two albums are perfect from first note to last with maybe a few not as good as the others. The rest of their albums have some very good songs but also quite a few forgettable ones. I think they were quite exceptional in having the two perfectos.
Endangered species is their only weak album imo

At their peak, honestly yes. This album is stronger than every Beatles record. I don't think there is a band that was as consistently great as the Beatles though.
This album is better than half the beatles catalog
I'd say the "Hope" album is far superior as an album, to any albums the Beatles ever released (perhaps the only contender would be the White Album, but that is still not as good as Hope)... but you can't deny the fact the Beatles pretty much influenced everything that came after them
