@Sean Savage I'm further away from owning one than I've ever been, considering the current economic climate and my personal debt situation. Appreciate the response though, good to see my priorities were in the right place in 2009

@@LimeGuy101 Oh no.. I was hoping to hear something better. But yes, the economy is brutal and that makes it tough to get things like a dream car. My parents had a 69 in red..it was only the 318, but my brother and I used to watch Dukes of Hazzard and then play in it... made dad mad when we climbed in through the window. I wish you all the best brother...things will come back around.

I grew up with those cars. VERY few cars were produced in the late 60's and 70's with six cylinder engines. Gas was so cheap, no one cared about "fuel economy". The US government in the 70's REQUIRED that a certain number of "econo" models were on the lot for every large V8 on the lot. That's a fact. There were many reasons that US auto sales declined, but government medeling was part of the equation.

@VladBlok28 Ford is now called Ford Global. It is a multinational company, it would really be a stretch to call it an American Company now. Ford owns many foreign car companies now like Volvo, Saab, Jaguar, land rover. They buy and sell divisions often so they probably have bought some other companies and dumped some since I last read.

@label1877 Well... your half right. SAE did change the horse power calcutions, no question. How they did it wasn't by measuring rear wheel horse power. SAE Net is still done at the flywheel, except it requires all engine driven accessories to be attached, an air filter and a full exhaust system. In the old gross HP days, they didn't even have to run the water pump!! Open exhaust! Open air filter! Yea, SAE Net changed everything.

not that obvious, I don't agree at all. What's different between 1969 and 2009 is that Detroit is trying to compete with car companies that have drastically reduced labor costs. Korean cars weren't even available in the USA before 1985. Detroit can't compete with cheap labor rates of the pacific rim. The Chargers and Camaros and Mustangs weren't a big segment of the car market, they were Halo cars, designed to get people into the showrooms to buy Falcons, Novas and Darts

I still disagree with your overall premise of the US government forcing car companies to sell econoboxes. Look at the numbers, ever since the late 50's The Big Four Manufactures big sellers and were subcompacts, compacts and intermediate sized vehicles. Rambler was the third best selling brand, even ahead of Plymouth and Buick in 1960. Economy has be an issue for years. Full sized cars sales dwindled for years and muscle cars were merely a fad.

My 1971 Super Bee, stock except for mufflers and having a 440 automatic, I get 5.8. Someone claiming 4 seconds for these cars stock is lying, and someone claiming 7 or 8 seconds has a badly tuned or worn out car.

@dobadriver - I would ask for time slips, because otherwise, it doesn't math out. Unless you were running a Demon 2bbl and a modified 383. Stock 383s just didn't have the balls. They were truck engines, really. All torque and no revs. Add in that most cars from the 60s were seriously traction limited... So, put slicks on a mildly modified 383, yea, it would those numbers. My 92 Vette does 0-60 in 5.4 or so and the quarter in 13.2.

This is a Dodge Charger automobile commercial which employs a voiceover while cartoon figures and actual film footage of a moving Charger sell the automobile at a discount price. The Charger was a fairly large sporty automobile which was featured prominently in the hit TV series entitled, “Dukes of Hazard.” While the show was not particularly intellectually challenging, it was funny and enjoyed a long run on television. It featured two brothers and a beautiful sister who lived at home with a grandfather who gave his tacit approval to the boys’ exploitation of the local traffic laws. A corrupt but harmless local sheriff added to the hijinks by constantly and unsuccessfully hunting them down. The automobile was an orange 1969 Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag painted on the roof and called the “General Lee.” Today the show is not considered to be politically correct because the break-away Confederate army supported the institution of slavery and was defeated by the Union army.

Sorry you have no idea what the hell you are talking about Josh
You say cars are going for 6 figures, yeah only the retards buy cars that cost that much, you can get fully restored 440 chargers for less than 60k on ebay, Not to mention that have been professionally restored and are straighter than they came off the production line.
UN restored cars that sort of run with at least a 383 can be had for as little as 7k but usually 10k is where they sit, the more you spend the nicer the car.

B body is the platform Chrysler used for the Charger, Coronet, Plymouth Satellite/Roadrunner/GTX, etc. A engine probably means LA motor, Chrysler's small block. Almost certainly a 318 LA series V8. I got one so I should know lol!

Rich Fahsbender i just bought a 69 charger myself for 5K with a rebuilt engine and trans, body is rough but about 2 grand will make it a great running driving car, however its gonna be like another 10k to deal with all the rust on the rest of the body.

thelasthallow that's an awesome price! I got a 1968 with the 318/a904, and it needs bodywork too, but should be driveable for about $3k bodywork
