I fancy myself good at fixing things but I couldn't have done it without you. Excellent video and thank you very much for your detailed explanation!! As a previous viewer commented, putting the vacuum back together is key!!
Thank you so much!!! I had done the usual disassembly and cleaning, but after putting it back together, there seemed to be a lot of fine dust continuing to emanate from the cyclone and collecting in the bin, (which is a real drag after spending considerable time cleaning it). And I was thinking if only I knew how to open up the cyclone to see where the dust was coming from. And here you are! Very much appreciated!
Thank you so much for posting this!!! I got a free Dyson from someone in my neighborhood because they said it didn’t work. Followed your video and it works like new now!!
Hello, wanted to thank you for taking the time to make the video. My V8 smelled so bad I was almost ready to throw that out and buy a new one! Your video saved it! among all the youtube Dyson videos I found yours the most helpful and easy to follow. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video...I was just looking for cleaning the post motor filter, and then saw this, with how to remove the bin to wash it (which I had never known how to either!), and found I could clean the whole lot! We live on a dirt road - so much dirt and grit now no longer living in my machine! I am sure it will work so much better!! Thank you again.
thank you, your video gave our v8 a stay of execution.. A new battery, new filters, and thorough cleaning (dusting ) seemed to solve the pulsing though occasionally was still doing it .. not sure if a factor, but with an aftermarket rear filter, two I bought seemed that they were causing a pulsing, so pulled out a newish Dyson brand filter (we had three V8s) this is the last one standing,. The pulsing went away for a month or so, but returned,so watched your video, deep cleaned .. we shall see .. not buying Dysons again .. seems the lifespan is approximately 2-3 years, so we reverted to a cheap corded stick we brought for cabin, that and a built-in system.. one other thing, many buy new vac etc. for new houses or post renovation.. watch out, plaster and drywall gyprock dust kills vacuums.. especially if the forced air system was not cleaned out post handover ..
Thans very much for this awesome video. I almost thrown away my v8 and bought a new one. The suction was really degraded, until it became completely unusable. Thanks to your thorough video I was able to clean it and restore it to a new condition. Thanks again!
An excellent video. Thanks for making and posting it! An added bonus for me (with hearing difficulty) is that your video doesn't have rock music in the background and I can hearing every word you said!
The rest of the story: I called Dyson twice re my lid off of the cannister. Initially it was suggested I view a video they would send to me. It was useless. Second time: I was told that lid should NEVER come off & if it does the cannister needs to be replaced. As she interacted with the tech & returned with his clear answer that is could NOT be put back, I waited til she was finished. While on hold I fiddled, again, with this knowledge about the tabs that you pointed out. . Presto, it worked! After her dire news I shared how it is in & working. Wrong response! She did warn me that this was just temporary.
hey man, thanks for this vid i accidentally popped out the plastic waste catcher part of the vacuum and couldn’t get it back in and this helped me click it back into place 😅 saved me from my mom, thanks dude
Excellent video. I purchase Dysons at my local Goodwill when I can find them. Your videos have helped me clean them up so they are useable in my home. Even when I buy them without a charger, I use my existing charger to charge the compatible vacuums. The fact that you REassemble is key. I can take them apart, but I’m horrible and putting them back together. In some instances I write the screw size on the unit with a Sharpie to remind myself.
Thank you so much, I somehow dislodged the dust bin from the motor when emptying it, I watched your video and it just clicked back in after your suggestion on how to line it up
Oh my God I want to thank you so so much you are awesome. You’re amazing. I had taken mine apart and then I had to watch a video how to put it back. Thank you so much. It helped me tremendously and you made it so easy.
Many thanks. I got careless and sucked some water into my V8 Animal. It mixed with the accumulated dust and formed a paste that shut it down (made the pulsing you mentioned). I almost ordered a replacement vacuum but decided to do a little research and found this post. Very easy to follow, and I already had a set of torx bits, so I figured all I had to risk would be an hour of my time. All went well. I tore up the edge more than you did separating 5 clips between the inner and outer plastic housings, but it had no impact on function, and fortunately, that's as far as I needed to go.
Thank you so much for this! I recently purchased a used Dyson V8, and every time I used it it smelled AWFUL. Cleaning it out made such a big difference! Great video, very easy to follow along.
Oh my God I want to thank you so so much you are awesome. You’re amazing. I had taken mine apart and then I had to watch a video how to put it back. Thank you so much.
This was about as clean and straightforward as a tutorial can get - I wouldn't change a thing. Question for you, my V8 seems to hold most of the dirt in the cyclone area. I have pulled it apart and washed each piece with soap, water, and a pipe cleaner. Have you seen/fixed this issue before? My last resort will be to apply a spray-on wax to the disassembled parts to reduce friction. Keep up the great work.
Hey thank you for this! Great walkthrough - I had sucked up some rice and some water and then hadn’t emptied the bin and it had gotten all gunky and smelly inside, tearing this down to do a proper clean and reassembling - it’s all back to normal now!! Definitely found removing the cylindrical filter (wedging the flathead screwdriver around the edges) to be the toughest part, was scared of breaking it, but managed to eventually pry it off! Appreciate this and thank you!
Thank you very much! My unit was stinking to high heaven and it was quite non-obvious to me how the heck to take it apart. I’m not sure how many times I can take that screen off, but the rest of it I can see happening on a regular basis for years to come. I’m very careful to line up with the previous original thread when I put the screws back in, So that should last a long time. There’s only so much dog dander you can vacuum up before these things start to smell. I bet a lot of people just throw them away!
This was very valuable, mostly figured it out apart from the bit with clips. What you didn’t take apart is the bit with motor - that I would love to clean too
It’s a cost benefit analysis there. The time it takes and the dirt that’s possible to clean out is extremely unbalanced. I’ve found it to be a waste of time and effort. Thanks for the comment!
Helpful thanks. Didn’t have long enough screwdriver to release last pieces but apart from that it really helped me be able to clean the dust out from decorating. The bit with the flathead screwdriver didn’t come out at all result like yours so got a few jabs in the plastic 🙈. It’s now reassembled and charging 🤞it all works tomorrow 😁
Wow! Thank you so much.... I clean for a living and pretty much figured it out but I was afraid I’d break something. This gave me confidence I wasn’t going to mess up
Thank you soooo much for this tutorial it really helped me with putting my bin back in I thought I was going to have to eeturn it. Continue to do good work. God bless you!
Thank you for taking the time to create your amazing video! I thought I broke this unit when it dropped on the floor and came apart. Thank you fo r showing me how to put it back together. I’m so relieved!!
Thanks so much for this video. I just received a refurbished one from eBay and man was it dirty inside. So I wanted to make sure it was completely cleaned out.
Thank you. I think the hardest part is putting the cup back in. Mind you, I did not do a total strip down of this vac but I did take the 3 main parts apart. Couldn't get the darn cup back in. Very hepful!
Pro tip. Wear you some gloves. Vacuums pick up lots of things, many of them, like glass dust, don’t jive with skin. Thanks for the breakdown and reassembly tips!
Thanks! I’m not saying i won’t take you’re advice but I have also been not wearing gloves for most vacuum repairs for 15+ years. 😁. There are some I will definitely wear gloves on but sometimes it effects my ability to handle minute objects accurately. But thank you

Can you help? I have a Dyson V7 and the trigger switch quit working. It runs constantly. Weird thing is the light comes on when I pull the switch and goes out when I release it. However, the engine will not shut off. I had to pull the battery to finally turn it off.
For what purpose do you want to remove it? I’ve never found it necessary. But up inside I know there is a small Torx screw from the bottom of the red gasket. That’s probably the first step. Never taken one out because they clean up just fine without removing it.
@@MIKEYSREVIEWS I actually don't have one of those models in the shop right now to give you a certain answer. I will comment back once I've had a chance to take a closer look at one. Is there a particular reason you are wanting to remove that red part?
Sorry if there is some confusion on the differences between the V6/V7/V8. I honestly could have sworn that I have worked on some models that had V7 on them that were identical to the V6. Currently the V7 and V8 are identical in regards to the cyclone and dirt cup. If anyone has a V7 that is NOT identical to the one in this video I would love to know! :)
I would gladly pay you to help me with this problem I have the same machine you just tore down and it has a flapper that opens up and that’s where the debris falls out. It’s clear plastic flapper and it fell apart and I cannot get that clear plastic bottom the snap back in and I’m scared if I force it I’m gonna break off the plastic tooth that goes in a grooveof the canister part that holds all the junk and any suggestions
@@richardsvacuumcenter yes sir I have, I’ve tried 3 different attachments and checked resistances for the heads and all check good. Vacuum sucks good but none of the heads will spin.
@@leppertbowhunting8089 Ok. So. I have seen this issue before on a few occasions. Unfortunately what I found with others doing the same thing is that the board has failed somehow. My guess is that water caused the issue but there is no reason to go forward because you cannot get the board separate from the entire motor assembly. You'll probably have to replace the motor assembly.

Thank you!
thanks you saved me
Thank you........... You made my day
All good thanks.
Hi Can the small flap inside the suction spout be replaced or will I need to replace the whole bin?
I don’t think so.
@@richardsvacuumcenter so need a new bin assembly? Is the flap just to stop debris falling out when the vacuum is held vertically?
@@nicknicolaou8512 yes that is correct.
@@nicknicolaou8512 you only need a new bin if you want to replace it. If you are careful it will work find if you just remove the flap.
@@richardsvacuumcenter great so can do without the flap then. Thank you so much for your quick response. Have a good day and keep up the good work. 👍
v8 vs v11.. which one is better? in terms of longevity?
V8
this is crazy difficult! i’m not getting one. too many parts for me to handle. good luck to all of you ✌🏼
Ok
I would gladly pay you to help me with this problem I have the same machine you just tore down and it has a flapper that opens up and that’s where the debris falls out. It’s clear plastic flapper and it fell apart and I cannot get that clear plastic bottom the snap back in and I’m scared if I force it I’m gonna break off the plastic tooth that goes in a grooveof the canister part that holds all the junk and any suggestions

Hi! my v8 vacuum does not release the container to remove the garbage, it got stuck and could not release it, what can I do?
I’m not exactly sure. That’s a tough issue for me to help you on as there could be many things causing that.
Thanks you very much
Hello I’m currently working on a v8 Dyson fluffy and when I hook up the attachments the roller heads won’t spin but it’s sucks just fine, any ideas?
Have you checked to see if they will work directly connected (without the wand)?
@@richardsvacuumcenter yes sir I have, I’ve tried 3 different attachments and checked resistances for the heads and all check good. Vacuum sucks good but none of the heads will spin.
@@leppertbowhunting8089 Ok. So. I have seen this issue before on a few occasions. Unfortunately what I found with others doing the same thing is that the board has failed somehow. My guess is that water caused the issue but there is no reason to go forward because you cannot get the board separate from the entire motor assembly. You'll probably have to replace the motor assembly.
@@richardsvacuumcenter thank you for your time and the information, much appreciated
