Thank you! The massage seats are great, but the ELS audio system can be had in lower trims. Normal people do fine with a 290 hp MDX, and some, not all will value the 355 hp version. However, all law-abiding Citizens need access to the AR15. Acura benchmarks their Type-S against their base models. Both versions will keep selling like hotcakes. For the few demanding more can turn to the aftermarket mods available.
My 2011 MDX has 300HP, with SH-AWD and may i remind you i bought a base model cause anything else was a waste of money given the GPS-Radio-CD unit it had as an upgrade. My MDX is a fun car to drive, sure its a gas guzzler, ut it requires basic maintenance perhaps becauae it was build in Japan at that time. I test drove a 2023 Advance model and it felt sluggish and the brake felt sloppy. Type S, as a used car, i would consider but new, there are better options out there
I’m comparing this with the Genesis GV80 3.5L prestige, same price, Acura is almost there, genesis has way less plastic, more wood, glass and metal from the glass gear shifter, metal buttons, and ample wood trim on the center console. Genesis 3D digital gauges are super crisp. Again for the same price you also get soft close doors, suede headliner, power rear sunshades, rear passenger heated/cooled and power rear seats Both have the ambient. Wish GV80 had MDX air suspension. MDX also has massage both front seats where the GV80 only has driver basic lumbar stretch massage which is not like a roller massage. It seems like the GV80 is pure luxury and MDX is pure sport, can make the decision hard, plus the GV80 3.5L prestige doesn’t have a 3rd row, can have 3rd row on lower trims. I still want both cars in the garage, 1 down 1 to go. Warranty also to take in consideration, genesis power train 10year 100k mile, Acura: 6yr 70k miles
I’d probably lean towards the GV80 myself. I’m not convinced that the suspension difference between the two would be all that noticeable from a seat of the pants perspective, and the GV does a better job feeling special inside. The MDX build quality is excellent, but it lacks a few of the GV’s wow factors. (Even though lots of that stuff is for show, at luxury prices I think consumers are entitled to a little show.) Acura loves to brag on the audio system, but again, I’m not convinced most normal humans will care where their podcasts are coming from. Tough call, but I think I’d pick the GV. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Both are good vehicles...GV80 has more tech...but sometimes it boils down to how a vehicle makes you feel. The GV80 made me feel older and the exterior was a bit busy for me. I like more clean uncluttered lines. I am definitely in love with the left and right turn camera of the GV80...I have that in my Accord which I hate that they stopped including. Acura also has that history of reliability, which I am sure Genesis is working towards.
Yeah 😂 they prices is too much still the MDX is very stylish interior and exterior 😅 wise because I 💕 my 2015 MDX tech like a baby and yeah 👍 nice 🤠 review
Good review. I agree with a lot, but also maybe disagree with some. Equally equipped, a German SUV is going to be 80-90K. the BMW X5, technically a 2 row, comparably trimmed out is $10K more. Mercedes would be even more. The audi doesn't even get cool until you spend close to $100K. You could get a Premier trim tahoe, like you said. But the quality and finish is kinda crap (saying that as someone that currently owns a Chevy). Plus that thing is a monster and not that fun to drive. The 6.2L V8 is an option but should be the standard in something that size. On the other end, I'd pay $20K more not to drive a telluride or highlander. Plus, like you mentioned, the model you tested was only $14K more than the A-spec. But $5K of that is the "advanced" package that brings different seats, heads up display, and a few other things (some of which should be standard at that price). Also, on the performance. I think the performance has gotten out of control. Most people can't use, shouldn't use, or don't know how to use something producing 600 HP. Although I wish the performance numbers were closer to 400 for HP and TQ, it has enough power to be fun and even a 41 year old accountant can fully put there foot into without fear of losing control.
I've actually been torn on this review more than almost any other in the past year. Upon reflection, I've actually found myself warming to the idea of the Type S more than when I was initially sticker shocked by it. Maybe it's the insane prices of new cars these days, but I think I might need to revisit this one... Thanks for watching!
I'm asking myself the same question about this Type S w/Advance package at $75k. I guess this is bigger than the X5 but smaller than the X7? And the price of this vs. the X5 is about equal the way I configure the BMW. So the X7 is way more. But I was kind of hoping for something in the 60k range - even the high 60k range. But to be fair, it has air suspension and massaging seats, and the front passenger gets the same seat as the driver. But the engine is turned the wrong way in the engine bay! So paying over 70k for a front wheel drive-based vehicle just rubs me wrong. So what will a Lexus TX (much larger) with the Hybrid Max powertrain cost? Probably in the same ballpark. I guess we'll see.
I think the TX will max out in that range fully loaded, but probably a bit cheaper. You’re getting a lot more space, though, which is far more usable to families than sports sedan performance.
The MDX advance should have had at least the option to get air suspension, since it has been the top trim for as ling as i can remember. Piano black, its a look that is out of style. My 2011 MDX has all the beautiwood trim and that is timeless, best car i owned besides owning an Acura legend 91 which was bought used.
@@jax1079 bought used with 45k miles, great car! My neighbor at the time sold it and bought a 1992 acura sedan, wow, it was a beautiful car. Too bad the Legend was one of the models Acura terminated so quickly.
So I'm supposed to speak in formal english just because I taught it...? Uh-oh, I started an independent clause with a coordinating conjunction. My whole life is a lie.
76,000 is a lot of money I mean a Camaro ZL1 is about the same price I believe but I do like the mdx my dad drives one and I’ve driven it as well . But still is a lot of money.
I agree that the brake pedal feel is less than desirable to state it mildly. I Love the rich feel of the cabin. However the grab handle is totally unnecessary and the price point of the Type S is about 7,000 above what it should be n my opinion. Hopefully Acura will correct the brake pedal feel, subpar power for the price point, and the undesirable infotainment system in the next generation MDX.
I agree. I think a lot of people felt as if I was being overly harsh. I really like the Type S, and I’d love to see Acura move upmarket, but it just needs a few more tweaks to command $70k or more. My opinion: brake feel, 400+ hp, and upgraded infotainment and I’d totally be down with a $75k price tag.
I concur with the price...it is way too pricey....the car is beauriful but to have an Advanced TL type S at 72000 is somewhat outpricing the value that Acura always use to acheive.
I have to admit: I am reconsidering how critical I was. I stand by $72k being a lot, but when compared directly against the German competition it is cheaper and lower to maintain over time.
JAX why don't you tell us how you really feel about this vehicle? 😛 I think that you are an artist with keen eyes 👀 for painting a clear picture, and that is why I'm not going put this vehicle on my list of maybies!
I always try to be honest. It’s a great SUV… at about $6k less. That’s just too much competition above $70k giving people a lot more of something. The Type S lacks a killer standout attribute to separate itself from what people will possibly cross shop. Thanks for watching!

LOL, congrats on your GX, but the MDX type S definitely doesn't look like a soccer-mom car! For starters, have you even seen the exhaust tips?? It's a med-large aggressive-sporty looking SUV, nothing at all that resembles a bland minivan soccer-mom mobile.

This is the way. And I think the dealer experience is rapidly improving. Kia knows what they have. They’re playing the long game. Poor dealer experiences are going to become less and less tolerable (at all levels) post pandemic. I’ve heard nothing but positives from most of the dealers in metro Atlanta (but admittedly a small sample size). Comparing them to Lexus (or Acura) will never be equal, but is it $20k deficient? I don’t think so. That’s what I’m getting at.
Very true. As an all-in-one, I kind of get it. But if you have a two-car household, there's no reason you can't have a more capable car as your second choice.
Both are SUVs, and at the same price, consumers might consider prioritizing quite a bit more space in their SUV package over the ride/handling balance of the Type S. For many families, practical considerations might win out given similar enough vehicles. It's not like a Tahoe is unappealing, and it has FAR more space and superior infotainment, two things buyers value.
@@jax1079But are they in the same class? That’s what every vehicle is judged by…the competition in their class. No one watching this is debating between a Tahoe or an MDX.
It's a very reliable, really nice luxurious SUV, I love the interior, but the 72 k price is a bit munch, they need to dial it back, 65k Max.
I think $65k would be a nice price for this
You get what you pay for.
@@Snookynibbles , no you don't, look at Mercedes and especially BMW their garbage.
@@jax1079 prices are nuts! It blows my mind. Keep up the good work!

Nope! That stuff bugs me so I would definitely have pointed it out. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Absolutely, whole every penny!
Glad you think so. If it works for you, it works. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Where I live price tag of 2022 of this car is less expensive than fully loaded Mercedes GLC, not BMW X5, not even X5 base!!
Something to consider for sure. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
If you had a 91 Acura Legend... hats off to you! That was an amazing vehicle.
@@jax1079 bought used with 45k miles, great car! My neighbor at the time sold it and bought a 1992 acura sedan, wow, it was a beautiful car. Too bad the Legend was one of the models Acura terminated so quickly.

This is true. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
He is complaining at the end about having a button for the camera system it’s actually there located on the top of the system for the windshield wipers
Which might literally be the dumbest spot for something you’d use that often.
I agree that at $72k it’s a tough sell. $65k seems more reasonable. But with this crazy market, what do I know?
Haha! What do any of us know at this point? Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
The Aspec trim type s is around 65k I think
@@jcwatts5000 It's not. I reviewed an A spec a little while back. It was $58k. Big difference in price, but not much of a difference in perception.

It looks good but I just take base MDX. This should compete only with Lexus RX. Neither of them should try anything performance related. Better option yet the new to come Pilot which is cleaner inside.
Echelon = League = Tier = Class
He's the tallest and yummiest of the YT car reviewers :)
I don’t know about that. Mark and Jack from Savage Geese are the blueprint for peak male performance.
Oh, and $72k is ridiculous for a “wanna be” sports car that in reality is a 3-row family hauler. I wouldn’t go any higher than the A-Spec for $58-62k.
Very true. As an all-in-one, I kind of get it. But if you have a two-car household, there's no reason you can't have a more capable car as your second choice.
Too bad the prices are crazy. Yeah this should go for $60k max but we live in crazy times.
I'm happy with my 2023 RDX A-Spec Adv Package. The prize of this MDX is totally overrated.
A Spec is a good middle ground for sure
Too expensive. Great vehicle. There’s a camera button. At this price point that engine got to do 400 hp. I’d get the BMW 5 or the Lexus 500h.
That 500h is mighty tempting…
For this money I get a Tahoe RST with 6.2 liter engine.
But your Tahoe will also break sooner. All Chevys do. From transmission, water pump, brakes fading etc.
Problem with Kia is dealer experience man. Be serious.
Problem with Kia is that it’s a Kia, a Korean vehicle (compared to a Tier 1 Japanese vehicle).
I am going to bet the MDX Type S will be gone after this year or next year.
Nice SUV but guessing it will sell as bad as the ZDX.
Gentlemen’s bet Jax?
Hahaha! I think they’ll keep it around as a “halo” car as the NSX rides into the sunset. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

@@jax1079Us "normal people" like fast cars and defending ourselves.
You lost credibility when you started comparing this to a Tahoe for cargo room. Yeah, no shit a Tahoe has more…so does a Sprinter van.
