Some possible feedback I would offer would be to have someone that is 5’ 10” or shorter sit in third row of any vehicle you review that has a third row. I am personally 510 and sit very comfortably in the third row of the new MDX. Majority of Americans are 5’10” or under and most people that will be sitting in a third row are guaranteed under 5’10”. I think this will provide a more realistic in their opinion on the third row of these types of vehicles. I love your videos.
What an engaging and entertaining review. It was just fun watching you thrash this MDX down a winding backcountry road. This was what I was hoping the Type S variant would be - a blast to drive while being composed. I could do without the gimmicky button transmission shifter but otherwise this looks like a win to me.
I’d love to buy this car and I’m seriously considering it. The price tag of these vehicles right now are just crazy though! I have the money to buy it and I’m still second guessing it.

If the halt is longer than that, then the driver must take anction to resume forward movement. This is the same procedure as on the regular MDX.
Great review, Ryan! Clearly you had some fun and explained all the systems very well. Now, all I have to do is convince my wife that the vehicle is comfortable, and order one! 👍🏻🔥
Interesting, the second row moves forwards and backwards. So if you move the second row forward a bit you might get and inch or two more legroom in the 3rd row. I do appreciate that it may still be tight for taller people.
Now imagine if the engineers actually did optimize the SH-AWD for a "Trail" soft-road mode. It would be the most well-rounded vehicle in this segment. Or any other segment, for that matter...
Two days ago I was at the Acura dealership ordering the options for my 2023 MDX type S. You can order a Tire and Rim plan that will cover anything happening to your tires or rims. I figure with prices always going up it's better to lock tire and rim cost now. Also to you can order a doughnut and or a full size spare. Granted there is no designated space for a full size spare but if you like me there are times when I have come home on a Friday and not leave the house again till Monday only to come out and find one of my tires on a flat. I had a full size spare right there in the garage to roll with. So I ordered both a doughnut and a full size spare, cause you just never know. Since my MDX has the off white leather seats I order the seat protection that if they cant get a stain out they will replace the seat.
I have always had a question to ask: how come most, if not all reviewers never mention the fact that you can slide the second row seats a little forward so that there is more room for the third row, so that it is more usable? It to me seems to be a really important feature. I know you mentioned the second row can be moved forward. But without indication that can be a solution to the limited third row knee space. Even better, you can adjust sitting position of both first and second row so that all passengers can have a pleasant longer trip.
Great review. I have a ‘22 MDX A-Spec that I’m trading in for a Type S Advance in a couple of weeks. Just waiting for it to come in. I’m like a kid at Christmas. I can’t wait!!!
So, what was wrong with the A-Spec? It has the tech pkg (because Acura wants you to buy two packages), so what is the A-Spec missing? Power? Sh-SWD? Given the market, you'll prob not lose on the trade assuming the markup on the Type-S isn't absurd.

Most of the reviews of the TLX Type S are positive, the complaints are the tight back seat, no 360 cam (in the US), it’s the heaviest and it’s the slowest in the segment. The MDX Type S is the best Acura on sale today and is packed with great luxury, tech and a lot of “Acura firsts.” There’s not much to dislike about the MDX.
You've done two reviews of the MDX and still haven't mentioned one of the coolest features... the middle fold down seat in the 2nd row is actually REMOVABLE converting it into Captain's chairs. (Unless they've changed something)
Ryan, I really enjoyed this review - the positivity absolutely transfers to the viewer :-) Question - why doesn't anyone but the German's put a moving map on the LCD gauge cluster? Or maybe someone else does? It seems like a no-brainer. Although I guess with the Heads Up display perhaps it's not entirely necessary. Thanks for an entertaining review!

Did your 0-60 of 5.8 seconds eliminate the 1ft roll-out time of 0.3 seconds, or is that a "raw" 5.8 seconds that would likely result in a 5.5 if measured at any dragstrip? Thank-you!
Can you make Apple CarPlay take up the entire infotainment display? Or are we always stuck with what's probably music track info on the right 1/3rd of the display?
I love the MDX Type-S; but, very hard to give up my 321hp 19 MDX hybrid for it. It was only $1500 to add the sport hybrid tech to the 17-20 MDX. I would pay an additional $1500 if Acura did the same for the MDX Type-S for +420hp, $420tq, and +21 mpg always.
It is very odd this 3.0t (or a slightly detuned/lower displacement turbo V6 variant) has not been paired to a hybrid drive system that Honda had proven with the MDX and RLX platforms, which were offshoots from the NSX system. Not sure why they have squandered this huge advantage away from the model lineup.
I don't suppose that there is a moving map on the MID? What vehicles besides Audi have this, and what is the big deal with not doing it? It just makes it that much safer to have the map right in front of me. Yes, I know, the turn-by-turn stuff can be on the head-up. Final question - can the artificial engine sound be turned off completely?
So...what makes this better then a Genesis GV80? Like the MDX very much, but at $72K, I'm questioning its value. Maybe a top of the line Telluride or Palisades is worth considering?
The Air Suspension is a big deal……..The GV80 does not have that. They both are similarly priced. An air suspension on a vehicle under $80K puts this vehicle ahead of the GV80. Not to mention the GV80 does not have wireless Apple CarPlay.
I’m glad to finally see the Silver/Blue interior combo, however, I’m very disappointed in the infotainment though and the fact that you can’t customize the screens with the menus such as navigation full screen and being able to switch between the main screen and tachometer screen like in Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. It’s like Acura is 10 years behind everyone else.
72K?? Wow!! Yes, here I go, lol That's Macan/SQ5/X4 M40i Money for me.. Reason why I say that is, I don't need a third row. Or a second row to be honest. (See: Empty Nester). In that price range, It should have another 25-50 hp. 0-60 in 5.85 seconds(Although numbers don't necessarily tell the whole story) is slow for a $70k vehicle. Exceptional review as always, Ryan.
Those cars does not even compete with this car. The closest one that the MDX Type S would compete with is The Porsche Cayenne and 3 rows X5 which will probably cost way more when it's similarly equipped. You wouldn't b cross Shopping a three-row SUV with a tiny little CUV, because if you are then you might as well compared it to a $70k Corvette.
@@tonychau1983 I do agree with you that it is not all that much faster than a Honda Pilot, especially for the price of you're paying. But I think there's more to it than just the speed alone when buying a cars like the MDX Type S. If you're looking for a 0-60 SUV Beast, I would say look at the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Otherwise you can also look at the BMW X5 M Competition for an all-around SUV. I believed the two vehicles that I just mentioned does not have a third-row option on the specific trim.
Great review. I enjoyed your presentation. I feel it was complete and well thought out. As far as my opinion on the vehicle, I test drove the 2023 Type-S Advance and I liked a lot about it. The items that I think they should change are the top speed limiter of 110 MPH. Other SUVs in this segment are 130-140 MPH. For a Type-S, that’s pretty disappointing and was a horrible decision on Acura’s part. The other iteam (which isn’t a deal breaker) is the middle seat fold down arm rest for the second row. Sitting back there, I noticed how low it was for my elbow. They should find a way to raise that to an even height for comfort. Side note, they should also offer an all gloss black wheel option. Outside of that, I think its a huge step forward for Acura. Let’s not talk about current interest rates of 5.5% at it’s lowest. Considering I have a GMC SUV at 2% and a Shelby at 2.5%, that’s horrible. I suppose we can thank the current administration.
So could you have scooted the second row seat forward to a point where you "would have" had comfortable leg room up there, and then had ample knee room in the third row???
Thank you for another great review. No available spare tire is a deal breaker for my parents who is in the market for a luxury suv. Thanks again for all the leg work.
Acura missed the mark with the non-touchscreen. Lexus customers was extremely dissatisfied with their non-touchscreen and received numerous criticism, that they finally brought back the touchscreen in their new models. Seems like Acura is a few years late with the touch pad. Bring back the touchscreen and move the screen closer to the driver. What a bummer.
It's fantastic and sooo much easier to use than the Lexus version. My wife has an RX350 and I literally can't use the trackpad, Acura's version is very easy and intuitive to use. I really thought that would be the thing that I didn't really like about this car, but I liked it after 5 minutes of playing with it. If you touch the track pad in the relative position of the icon you are trying to activate, you never even have to move your finger to use and you don't have to reach to hit the touchscreen.
It's called "kaizen".....which means the continuous cycle of improvement....that's why Japanese car manufacturers don't do sudden jump on design and engineering
Needs more HP. Really wanted to upgrade from my Explorer ST to this as we’ve had many acuras in the past. The $7-$12k premium over the ST could not be justified. Wish they would have made a true performance model and left the gimmicky lux features to a normal MDX (even more premium sound, air ride, etc)
Its luxury so thats why the air suspension plus the phenomenal sound system, massage seats. Id say go test drive it and see for yourself. I actually really like the look of the explorer st but these are two totally different class. There will be a tune foe it foe more hp if your into that.

acura is taking lessons from mazda, this looks a lot like the 2016 cx9, and the interior on the new intergra looks very similar to the design language on the mazda 3 from 2014.
The fuel economy is embarrassing considering a larger, les aerodynamic, more powerful Ford F-150 gets 23 mpg with its larger 3.5 ecoboost v6. Cmon Honda!!!!

@@AlaskanSnowLeopard trackhawk 100k? Me personally ill stick with a pilot and buy a gr86 for a toy car. Unless i have some Porsche money to play with
Where is this? The road is appealing, HWY name please?
Where was this filmed? Eburg?
I read the description, Napa. ;)
I’d add a lil change and get LX600 instead. True body on frame constructed beast
Hahahaha, starting at $87K plus, plus, plus. No way!
Those thin sidewall tires give me 😱
I got sidewall bubble for last 3 years.
I have to change my wheel from 17 inches to 16 inches ;(
Great review.
I want this car sooooo bad!!
So could you have scooted the second row seat forward to a point where you "would have" had comfortable leg room up there, and then had ample knee room in the third row???
No, it has to go back to "lock" into position.
Looks like you disabled the idle stop? It stopped the engine in traffic assist for me. Had to press throttle to get it to start and go.
I think we were still in Sport mode which disables it automatically. (IIRC)
What is the maximum ground clearance?
They built the NSX super car, and totally gave up the fancy sport hybrid AWD! What a pity…
They’re skipping hybrid and going straight to EVs
EVs
Had a bad experience with continental tires on a brand new Honda vehicle, at about 10k miles the tire was pealing...chuncks of tires just falling off
Do you think the Ridgeline will get this motor?
I love my mdx type s fun to drive
Thank you for another great review. No available spare tire is a deal breaker for my parents who is in the market for a luxury suv. Thanks again for all the leg work.
I believe it’s available, just not on the Type-S.
That's what roadside assistance is for.
Royalty free music to test the sound of those speakers
Very Luxury
ACC resumes on it's own when stopped less than 3 seconds, otherwise a little tap on the gas resumes it.
Those gas prices though.
It's called "kaizen".....which means the continuous cycle of improvement....that's why Japanese car manufacturers don't do sudden jump on design and engineering
Is that leather blue??
Yes!
👍🏻 Acura
Needs more HP. Really wanted to upgrade from my Explorer ST to this as we’ve had many acuras in the past. The $7-$12k premium over the ST could not be justified. Wish they would have made a true performance model and left the gimmicky lux features to a normal MDX (even more premium sound, air ride, etc)
Its luxury so thats why the air suspension plus the phenomenal sound system, massage seats. Id say go test drive it and see for yourself. I actually really like the look of the explorer st but these are two totally different class. There will be a tune foe it foe more hp if your into that.
Haha, Ford is nowhere close to the level of this type s.
I went from a Ford Explorer Sport and the Type S is much quicker and way more fun to drive.
Fit and finish is not even a question.
The seats look rather spartan compared to the ridiculous Infinity's leather interior. I prefer the MDX seats.
I wish the Azurite Blue make it to the other colors not just Lunar Silver and Tiger Eye
I'm tempted...
Who buys a type s for off roading ??? Who would buy a super sport suv amd not know this is a sport car in a suv. Like porsche etc.. i am shock you would have to say it..! Anyway.. i want one !!
Better than so-called Audi,Mercedes Benz SUV
Great looking car!
@23:00 "and that's okay" because I will buy a fully loaded MDX Type S Advance anyway.
Cool!
It's surprisingly not that fast. I was expecting 0-60 in the 4.8 - 5.2 second range.
$72,050 before destination & delivery.....good lord
acura is taking lessons from mazda, this looks a lot like the 2016 cx9, and the interior on the new intergra looks very similar to the design language on the mazda 3 from 2014.
They moved the battery for better weight distribution 🥴
Acura Super!!!!!
The fuel economy is embarrassing considering a larger, les aerodynamic, more powerful Ford F-150 gets 23 mpg with its larger 3.5 ecoboost v6. Cmon Honda!!!!
I want one.
