There is no quit in those kind of guys. but Vancouver never takes them, and if and when they do, they muck it up.. eg: Trading away Neely and before that, Vaive
I remember draft day and it was all about whether Brent would slip down far enough for the Islanders to grab him. It was way different in those days, especially in the US. No TV coverage, only the Hockey News preview to know who the available players were, and looking in the agate buried in the sports pages the day after the draft to see where the players were going and somehow Brent Sutter slipped to the Islanders and you knew they won the draft that day.
Sad to watch this as I remember him when I was a kid . Now he’s older and I’m older it’s all a memory of his greatness . You don’t appreciate it till it’s gone
Great video - awesome dynasty team ! Was fortunate to play some of my high school games at the coliseum before Islander games - pretty cool to play on pro ice , and then get to stay and watch them play . Great memories- rip to all the greats that have passed .
Congrats Well deserved Watched him play at 15 with Red Deer Rustlers thinking how did this kid make the team ? Best player by the end of year. 1987 Canada Cup I thought in final game , Canada down 3-0 , that Sutter "never quit attitude " got the team back in the game . Centennial Cup Memorial Cup Red Deer Rebels World Juniors , 2 Stanley Cups Todd Michalezki
There's been no other team like the isles of the early 80s, they had it all, offense, defense and toughness ! They stood up for each other ! The isles have the blueprint, they just haven't used it !
Here is exactly what the NHL is missing these days, strong combination of grit, class and respect.
Congratulations, Brent Sutter. You deserve to have your number #21 hanging in the rafters.
A family of hard working, hockey playing farm boys from small town Alberta. Congratulations! 🎉

We had Brian Sutter for the Blues ..one of the Greats
Happy days 😊
Salute to the NYI for a great piece on Brent. Not near enough of "Sutter like" players today.
The Sutter boys sure made tiny Viking AB proud.
Western Canada tough
In Vancouver we had Ritchie for a while. Quin TRADED him for a pick that turned into Sean Antoski. HUGE mistake
Great player. Congrats Mr. Sutter!
Congrats Brent, the pic of him and Broten at the end is my pic. Thanks
Congratulations Brent.
I was a huge Islanders fan when they were in their dynasty years and Bret Sutter deserves to be in the HHOF. Congratulations Bret.
Congratulations Brent 🎉
long island loves you forever Brent and the whole Sutter family.
Congratulations, Mr. Sutter! You are and were an Islanders icon!
All you boys were awesome. Loved every minute watching the Sutters play hockey!!
We had Darryl in Chicago. Great hockey family.
Very under rated player. he worked his butt off and was gold, on the dots
Congrats Brent. Very well deserved.
Brent was a badass! Love you Brent!
Thank you Pup. For all of it. Everything. Because you gave us everything on the ice.
so humble, so refreshing
As a Ranger fan, Brent Sutter was an Isle MAINSTAY and a real pain!

great, one of the most beautiful ones.,he could score, check, underrated player 👏
Thanks for the memories as part of the Islander machine.
Back then, the Islanders drafted team-first, hockey players.
Outstanding player and a hell of a coach as well. A Memorial Cup and a pair of World Junior Golds to go with his two Stanley Cup wins.

The best team of it's era....
I like he was made by the farm and he made it to the top, but he comes back to the farm
U gotta love that.

how respected was brent? he was voted by the players to replace potvin as captain in 1987 over such isles legends as trottier and bossy

Um........well there's been a few more .........just saying
@ actually, there hasn't ! The isles were the last team to win 4 cups in a row, numerous other teams have won 2 in a row on multiple occasions.
@@25yrsotj so you're just going on how many in a row? Wow
@@charlesbey8636 what did you expect ? No other team has done it since the isles or the Canadians. 🤷♂️
I love the Islanders. I wish Bill Torrey and Al Arbour had written book on how they worked and built the Islanders organization.
