@@mohamedelhediissa289 I mean, sort of. He didn't know of the direct truth, but gave up his life for someone who also has a dream and will found out for him. It is kinda sad.
Currently my single favorite anime scene, and considering we're through most of the good stuff now with the anime it'll remain I'm sure (manga reader am I)
Eren's hatred towards the Titans was due to the belief that they were at fault for humanity being behind bars, and that the death of the Titans would lead to freedom. But that isn't the truth. It was never the Titans, it was the world itself. His target has changed, but the goal has not: the eradication of the enemy. And I feel like that's why Eren is a brilliant character. He grows, changes, and swaps beliefs; but he doesn't. Merely the target of his hatred does. His character isn't contradicted.
exactly. Eren has always been like this, just look at what he did to those human traffickers-he was always capable of cruelty. his ultimate goal is freedom. even if he has to destroy the entire world to get that, and alienate his loved ones in the process.
His character and his nature are still exactly the same. Only this time, Eren has become stronger than ever, even Levi or Zeke Yeager are nowhere near his level. Even though i prefer Levi more, i still can't deny that this Eren Yeager has become more interested than ever
I haven't read the manga yet, but seeing how season 3 ended, I'm really looking forward to the character development Eren will receive in season 4. Homie's whole life has been a lie.
Not really he isn't a stupid brat anymore who is controlled by his anger. He keeps moving forward and destroying his enemies not because he wants to but because that's the only answer he thinks he has.
What makes the sea scene so sad for me is that it's a summary of what has happened to the main trio. In order to get there they had to change as people, and Eren's words made me suddenly realize that the kids from the beginning of the story, or even one or two arcs ago, are no longer there. Just like their idea of the sea, they have been contaminated by the world
It's weird, because Armin is probably the biggest influencer in Eren's decision making. Him showing Eren the sea made Eren want to explore the outside world, him telling him that lie is what Eren took to heart and became the person he needed to be. Even when Eren's life was on the line, he allowed Armin to make the ultimate decision on how to move forward in Season 1 episode 9. Unfortunately, we see what happened in the end...
AoT is like a long metaphor for the fight against nihilism in life. The horizon is a great example of delusion being discovered, and then the melancholy and maturity in Eren as to where to go from there.
Wait... Some people really think like that ? Do they just not want to analyse and have empathy ; like damn, Eren's character development is stunning and hear shattering to say the least.
@@jawrex28 I wouldn’t generalize them, I don’t think it’s fair It’s just a lack of thinking and empathy. Could also be the type of watchers that don’t like to over analyze things and would prefer a typical shônen protag Thing is, Eren started as that typical MC, don’t give up, hard work and teamwork Usually in shônen this trope works and the MC just gets stronger too But AOT is closer to a Seinen with its realistic view of the world they live in : There’s no answer to anything, we don’t know who the enemy truly is, even if you do your best it doesn’t mean things will turn out the way you want, sometimes we’re hopeless... His character development is only logical and is fantastic
@@Aleczandxr Great Video Also, until you pointed it out that they were child soldiers, that never really crossed my mind. I think it would be really cool if you could do a video on Mrs, Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, K-on or Made in Abyss.
They realized that the light at the end of the tunnel was actually a freight train coming their way. That beach episode was such a brutal emotional gut-punch for me.
Perfectly sums up why that ending scene made me cry; it was _so_ powerful. Eren looks so tired and defeated, unable to enjoy the sea at all or see reaching it as a victory, something they'd worked so _hard_ for, now that he knows that their fight is nowhere near over even with all the titans on their island being gone. The distance between him and Armin now - physically and metaphorically - is so heartbreaking, because Armin is still so excited by the sea even at this point, but Eren just can't care anymore; it's clear how much he's changed and spiraled downwards, how he's getting further and further away from his two friends, after everything he's been through and learned. I didn't care for Eren much originally, but now he's become one of my favorite protagonists of all time. His development is so fascinating and so sad, and I look forward to and utterly dread seeing how unhinged he becomes in season 4. Great video
@@taetm8868 she was a ordinary girl, a slave from some lord. She had dreams of freedom and tried to free some sheeps(she was just a kid) sentenced to death and when fleeing found the source of life. After that she was used by the same king who senteced her saying "she was still his slave" and used her to build his kingdom(it kinda looks like the birth of rome) after he used her to kill other kingdoms, when she was murdered the king he ordered his three children to eat ymir, every part so that his power was passed on, that later sprouted the 9 maing titans. @@alilweeb7684 just goes to show that the source of all the evil goes beyond what we imagine. Sometimes, it can be as simple as the imperfection of humanity.
My theory is that at that point he had seen himself killing dozens in Marley so that's why he asked if he killed them all whether or not he'd be free. He didn't fully understand the enemy at this point, but he knew they were there and that he'd kill them.
@@djehuty7771 Honestly at this point seeing his development up to chapter 133, I can be almost 100% sure that he's depressed and just wants to be over with it all. I mean, since that moment he connected with his dad's memories in S3 and even before that at the end of S1 with Mikasa he's said things that makes me believe he doesn't even want to be alive, but he has to keep going. Spoiler chapter 133 I agree with Reiner's perspective, Eren wants them to stop him ; since he knows the future and we don't, and seeing how he feels in chapter 131, I can say he doesn't want to be alive by the end of this and he also wishes for peace. We just don't know the extent of what he knows and why exactly he's going by such a drastic plan. Eren is in pain, I'm sure of it, he must be in such pain. If Reiner's theory is correct (as well as mine because that's also what I've been thinking) then he must be in such pain that he wants them to hate him and kill him. Of course even if he wants them to kill him, doesn't mean he doesn't have a reason why the act of being killed would change something.
If we kill all of our enemies beyond the sea will we finally be free ? Such a deep question about what dose the freedom really means in a way it reminds me of aritoria,s speech at sea in episode 3 of fate zero

To draw a parallel with the real world: to stop Hitler they also had to pay a lot of Innocent Germans who might not be involved or hated Hitler, through a necessary evil to stop him: war.
I don’t know if my comment got posted cuz it vanished on my screen Bro, that ending bit after “Thanks for watching” was powerful. I absolutely adore Attack on Titan & I can’t wait for Marley to be animated
Dude, when Eren looked at the sea, it was like in MHA when Endeavor saw the real All Might. The realization that everything you did was crushed by your knowledge of what it all truly was. Truth hurts is an understatement. Eren saw the world as Bertholdt did before his final transformation. Perhaps it was the day Eren became that man in the final arc
@@benl.4577 for sure, Endeavor's moment with All Might was definitely a big reality check that made him reconsider his goals, but with Eren his entire world was upended and all that was left was a depressing realization that potentially the only way to gain freedom for himself and his loved ones was to become a devil and commit mass murder.
As usual, you amazingly express a very specific aspect of the narrative that this exceptional season captures so incredibly well...the loss of Eren's idealism, the motif of the sea, of freedom, encapsulated in the closure of the story pre-time jump/Marley arc, that beautifully poignant scene at the sea, and the inherent melancholy within what this scene meant for Eren's characterization and the arc's resolution. I really could not have put it better myself, and in fact, as usual, you capture my feelings on the matter so well and crystallize it further by explaining it wonderfully! The realism that infringes upon the idealism of Eren's outlook on the freedom of the sea is one of the most vital thematic points of this season, and that final scene's significance is what you present so well here. It really was a false horizon, what a fitting way of putting it, well done! Armin's idealism, represented by the sea, that expanse, that horizon evoking hope and peace, is salvaged for him by his survival. Eren, however, with the memories of his father coursing through his mind after the discovery of the contents of the basement, erode his own hope in what the symbol of the sea represented. I think a scene you very easily could have included in this video to help bolster your point is during the final episode, when Eren is trying to console Armin about him being chosen to survive after Floch's criticism (before the ceremony), and as he tries to argue that they will now get to go to the ocean....a flashback of Faye, Grisha's sister (his aunt!), torn apart by the dogs in Marley....makes him pause, horror-struck at the epiphany that the very ideal they clung to, reaching that sea to be free, is a fallacy. The fact that Armin was not at the basement reveal actually adds to that point as well, his hope is maintained, but Eren's ideal has been compromised. Of course, this is because, as that final scene shows, beyond the sea are enemies....and to truly be free, to end the cycle that has been perpetuated for 2,000 years, it needs to be continued one more time, and resolved by the very horrors of war that feed the suffering of this world steeped in pessimism, violence, warfare, segregation and despair. From here, we hit a milestone of the narrative as a whole, a structural end to the Paradis reality, and the story sets up the dive into a wider, far more morally, ethically, and socially complex world and tale. As a springboard to this, what you describe in the video is a truly effective thematic point that resonates what is to come, and I'm so glad you touched on that so damn well! Magnificent video as usual, I'm very happy you did one about AoT, it's genuinely probably my favorite ongoing anime story right now (and the manga has been absolutely incredible from Marley onwards, the recent developments have just gotten better and better narratively, chapter 122 was crazy! The conclusion of the story will be a big factor in deciding how great AoT truly ends up being, though, as expected, and we are definitely getting closer). If the anime continues to produce an adaptation like this, with this last season literally surpassing the source material in so many ways, what comes next in AoT, this final season, has the potential to genuinely be one of the very best animes I've ever seen, it's already up there after S3 Part 2, but the Marley arc is truly exceptional, and I hope they really can continue this impeccable, in fact transcendent, adaptation. Brilliant job, I would love to see more on AoT, I'm glad we continue to share interests in similar stories/works of art and analyze them in very similar ways!
Thanks as always for sharing your extensive thoughts on the topic mate! Definitely super glad that you enjoyed. It's such an amazing story, with unrivalled foreshadowing and plotting, and a mythos that just deepens, recontextualizes and expands upon itself with each new manga revelation. I totally agree, if S4 adapts Marley well then it'll become a top 10 anime for me without a doubt (it's already top 15, mind..), and that's at the very least. As for more AoT content - I'd definitely love to do more but most of the topics I'd be interested in occur during Marley and on, so it'll probably have to wait until S4 is animated (assuming I'm still making videos by then, lol)
@@Aleczandxr I've just recently found ur videos and Im just flabbergasted on finding someone that see anime in the light that I see it as man. I can't stop watching your videos bro, keep up the good work 🤗🤗😃👊
It's crazy: in the first season, there was so much drama, nihilism and suffering yet I couldn't feel a thing. Then two seasons later, with the world being given a chance to breathe, and the characters to develop, while simultaneously pushing the plot forward in crazy ways, I won't deny, I didn't cry, but I got fucking emotional in this ending scene. Coupled with the beautiful visuals, contrasting with Eren's VA superb line delivery, and the emotional score, this was easily one of the most bittersweet scenes I've ever watched in an anime.
Eren is a genius character constructed figure. He is initially hated , then understood and now , you can only consider whether you were even right to judge him so early on. The reason people hated Eren as a bratty kid is because there are a lot of shades of Eren within all of us, just that we dont want to accept it. I am really excited to find out what Eren will end up turning into , at the finale
So great to finally see an AoT video on this channel! Season 3 has really brought many back to the series. Glad you didn't insult season 1 to make the current season look better, as everyone else seems to do. It's all part of a whole and season 1 is even better in retrospect. I know this doesn't have much to do with this video, but it's just rare to not see constant backhanded comments about the show. Especially the "action spectacle" statement, which really discredits all that AoT is about. Eren really is the character who embodies the theme of freedom, more than any other character i've seen. The evolution of this show and it's characters, is just amazing! When you think it's peeked, it just continous to impress. The ocean scene reflects how vast their conflict is. That this is real war and they haven't even seen the people they're up against. Eren's determination to survive, developing more as time goes on. I really hope the series can wrap everything together and give a satisfying ending. We'll just have to wait and see. So far the manga is just getting better with each chapter!
I started watching your HunterxHunter analysis videos, and I found all of them awesome and very thought-provoking. Here, this video demonstrates the sad reality Eren faces and the childlike innocence shattered upon realizing that his freedom did not come when he made it to the outside of the walls. In a way, it reflects the maliciousness and the cycle of death that Eren will continue to follow all in the name of freedom. To me, it somewhat reflects Erwin's journey where he had to abandon his humanity and all the lives lost in order to seek freedom. But for Eren's journey, the path is filled with much more blood and hostility than ever before, and whether or not it is for the better, there is no answer, nor will there ever be. Fantastic job as always, Aleczandxr!
Also: (Manga spoilers) Remember, at the early stage of the series, Eren, Sasha, and some other recruits were standing at the top of the Wall. Sasha had stolen a piece of meat and she justified herself talking about all the meat they will eat after they regain Wall Maria and after they will finally have space for cultivating the earth and rising domestic animals. By the end of the Clash of Titans arc, Eldians regained not only Wall Maria but basically the entire Island. Yet there is no peace in that 'victory'. Eren knows, that no earth they will cultivate nor no animals they will rise will be safe from the Enemy. Sasha's dream will not truly come true unless the threat disappears completely. In that ruthlessly complex world, even such a simple dream as wanting to provide food to yourself and your people is crashing with this cruel reality - no one, not you, not your friends will be safe unless the Enemy is gone. Every status quo or treaty would be delaying the inevitable, would be just another "false peace". It would be like going back to the time where Eldians lived in a cage made of Walls and Titans, awaiting their doom. As long as the possibility of the attack exists, there can be no true peace, only a brief pause between wars. How can someone leave the country to the children, knowing that it will destine them to fight 'till their dying breath or 'till the dying breath of their enemies? Doing something like that and hoping for peace would be the same thing Eren Kruger and Grishna Yeager and Xavier did - before dying, implanting their ideals into their 'students' and having them continue the battle in the endless cycle. If such act is cruel, and the only other alternative - Rumbling - is cruel as well, then it is such because the world is cruel. If the world is cruel, then to change it one has to become crueler than the world. I think that is why Eren cried so maniacally after Sasha died - after all, she was so simple and her desires were so pure, but no see them come true they had to fight again. Even if she didn't come to Liberio; if one does not commit violence, it is only because others commit violence on their behalf; in other words - it would not change anything. Of course, perhaps a fan-favorite character would still live with her fiancee, but the reality would not change. Violence has to be committed, by one or by the other. To overcome violence one needs ultimate violence. Kenny falls before Uri, even though he was (arguable) the most powerful human, but the strength of the titan was from the other dimension. Just like the invasion of Marlay on Paradise is like Kenny throwing a dagger at Uri and Eren's Rumbling is like Uri transforming into the Founding Titan - the scales of these two actions are completely different. Fear is something learned. Just like if you hit your dog when it does a bad thing, you can train any animal or even human. This process also works on a grand scale. One can change the psyche of the entire nation by simply providing a powerful enough experience. Look at what happened culturally to the United States through the influence of early rock and roll music (and few other things, but mainly that). Look at what happened to the imagination of the people after the crimes of Nazis became known. In the Middle Ages, at one point the nation of Poland fall apart. After hundreds of years of the process of Christianisation (converting pagans to the Holy Church), the demise of the King, pillaging of the states, and death of many governing nobles - all of that in the blink of the eye transformed the society that just a few dozen months before was devoted to Jesus Christ. Long story short, the peasants and even some nobles were running around the country burning every church they found and murdering every priest (in quite fantastic (from the Berserk fan point of view) ways). There were other events similar to that one in the world, but this one was special because for the next few decades the pagan Slavic believes were overnight resurrected in Poland. Most of the current knowledge of this pagan deities is today known only because of that situation - the forgotten tales being recalled and remade after their eradication during the Christianisation hundreds of years before. . Basically - society, human species, world, individual: all of these things can change, but their nature remains the same, still, they can act and react differently. Now Marley fears Eldians and wants to eradicate them. Of course, Marley could make peace and start making babies with Eldians, but that's very (100%) unlikely because the reason for their fear (titans) remains. But Marley could perhaps start fearing Eldians like ancient people feared Ocean or how kids fear the darkness. As something that can not be approached, a taboo, something that will destroy us unless we keep our feet, hands and minds away from it. Instead of provoking and taunting, to teach Marley to keep it's head down - that is possible. From the perspective of history, Rumbling is more than a reasonable move. From the perspective of this story, Rumbling is a tragic crowning to the incredible character of Eren Yeager. From my perspective, I just hope that we get to see something never seen before - the bad (or maybe dark is the better word) ending where the protagonist (Eren) wins, but that victory is the worst act in the entire story. Not a heroic triumph against the evil overlord, but rather a finale without compromises, beyond the modern trope of the hero becoming the villain. By the way: great video as usual. Do you plan on doing something on Vagabond (way of the samurai in the times of samura's end), webtoon Tower of God (hero complex, being special and being mediocre) or Ghost Eyes (highly recommend; mental illness (all kinds), demons (both imaginary and real (I think???), Christianity in fanatical edition (basically a super weird cult), children as the main heroes (the main character is I think 12 years old))? Cheers
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW what a fantastic video dude. I literally think about this shit in my down time and find myself in disbelief at how good this story is. I can't believe how well Isayama paced his story and how well it translated into the anime. The animation is superb, the music is perfect, and the acting is fucking superb. Thank you for talking about this
"nothing less than evil will be capable of ending the evil of this cycle of misery" is the equivalent of "you have to fight fire with fire". Floch, upon dragging the near-death body of Erwin to Levi: "I thought to myself that he ought to taste more of this hell... The only one who can lay waste to the titans is a devil!" At this point, I assumed they would be pragmatic and go with the approach you yourself suppose that Eren will adopt in the future war. Levi, when choosing between Armin and Erwin: "Can you forgive him. He had no choice but to become a demon. We're the ones who forced him to do it." They could only get as far as they did through Erwin's decisions to sacrifice the many scouts before (awesome frame of erwin on his fallen comrades). Yet in the end, Levi yields to his better judgement and opts to wage humanity on the shoulders of Armin and hence 'hope'. As an anime-only, I'm sure there will be more bloodshed and tears, but I hope, if peace is eventually achieved at the end of the series, that it is done based on the principles that define Armin. Great video :)
I just finished season 3 a couple days ago and if anything is gonna convince me so start reading aot its gonna be a combo of cliffhangers and videos like this
I read it just a couple of days ago. I was really hesitant to read the manga at first because i love the anime so much. But reading it was beyond my expectations, and i had already attack on titan as my second favorite series even before the marley arc...
You know i always recommend people to stay anime only as it hits hard when you firdt discover it in anime without getting spoiled or already having expectations. That's why s2 ead my fav. And since s4 is not that far away i will say it will be worth to wait.
just like the characters, we all have our walls, oceans and horizons... life, however, is not so generous and a significant number of us never get the chance to see past those walls... to reach our oceans... and make way towards our horizons... the handful that do see success, at least in my observation, are completely changed by their journeys... they are no longer wide-eyed and idealistic... in their own ways, they transformed, grew, improved and learned... one way or another, they became part of the same oceans and horizons they saw back when they were gazing from the walls...
A simple video, but it encapsulates what happens well, and you contributed your own observation of our romanticization of the unknown, without going too into it. A good short and sweet video, with a very nice tease at the end. Dang, I wish they left in Eren's tears when he arrived at the ocean...
I just want to say this, before watching the video, really loved the FMA videos and in the mean time I have discovered AoT (which blew my mind) and went back to check if you had any AoT related videos and you did not and now you have made one, thank you, I know it will be a good one.
It's almost human nature to want to see the world in a much more peaceful light and hope for a better future. Especially in the world of attack on titan where it is extremely cutthroat brutal and even borderline nihilistic in how people are discarded for the sake of a supposed greater good. I'm not really a huge fan of the series and I never caught on to it but this show definitely has its character growth and although Eren has become a person that he had initially despised at the beginning due to his black and white morality he matures and steels himself to do evil to counteract evil in the same way that the royalist tried to do when they sent hundreds of thousands of civilians to go fight the titans in an attempt to thin the population. He knows that he isn't a good person and that he'll most likely suffer some serious backlash and hatred for what hes done but it's what the world needs in order for him to save it.
I love how AOT really dives into what freedom can be interpreted as and how ideas of freedom can affect people.espicially if that idea of freedom is based off of ignorance... I can't wait to see Eren in season 4... The manga going crazy rn 😆❤️
A lot of people were dissapointed with the twist, and I can sort of understand why. But it's so thematically perfect for Attack on Titan that I cannot fault it.
I haven't read the manga yet, but seeing how season 3 ended, I'm really looking forward to the character development Eren will receive in season 4. His whole life has been filled with lies and hatred and now that he's reached his supposed "goal" where he's supposed to be happy, he has to prepare himself for more hatred and an even bigger war.
I love this video and S3 so much. The sheer hopelessness conveyed during the ocean scene was incredible and gut-wrenching. I really think you captured that feeling in the video, and that’s part of why I love AOT so much! It gets you to understand the nature of war and the motives of characters in such a visceral, real way, and nobody is on the side of light-it’s mindblowing, to be honest.
Anime only here. My opinion up to the end of S3: Eren might have taken Armin’s dream more literal, as his goal is liberating themselves from oppression, freeing them from dangers and ending conflict forever. Eren's goal of striving for freedom is admirable, but his wish for practically never to fight for or against anything is a bit naïve. Armin’s wish and motivation is more intangible and is more in synch with Mikasa’s observation which is : this a cruel yet beautiful world. The sea for me perpresents mystery, danger, unknown yet equal amount of indescribable beauty and something that makes all the blood, sweat and grinding worthwhile. Eren is probably already spoiled with all the memories of his Dad, but Armin can enjoy the moment of victory. They, against all odds, did get to the sea, a few years earlier it was unsure if they’ll live the next day. All of these characters did the unimaginable and reached the sea. If you think about our real world and our real lives, anyone can come to the conclusion this is terrible, painful, full of never ending challenge and cruelty, make so sense and there is a the spoiler of everyone dies. But equally can anyone come to the conclusion this is beautiful, uplifting and despite all the pain and sacrifice it’s worthwhile. I’ll take the side I always take, which is Armin’s side.
When you after reading chapter 121 realise that eren meant something else when they got to the sea and he said it's just like he saw in his dad's memories
Coming back to this after watching what we have of season 4 so far (the most recent episode as of me posting this being episode 66: Assault), hits different. Eren has completely steeled himself for this fight like you said. You can see through his actions in the most recent episodes that he is acting solely based on his duty of killing his enemies, to achieve freedom. He obviously seemed like your typical, angry anime protagonist in the beginning, but it’s this sort of change that makes him one of my favorites.
Excellent work, as always!!! When I watch season 3 I caught a glimpse of everything you have talked about, but the deep way you explore those ideas always catch my whole attention. I really appreciate you took in consideration the anime-only viewers and I found your predictions at the end quite interesting wheter they turn to be more or less accurate! I enjoy your videos so much that it makes me consider watching every anime you talk about only to be able to follow up your thoughts. I would like to create content like you do, in such a clear and appealing way. Even more, I hope you keep producing such well done analyzes!
Eren vaguely reminds me of Captain Ahab, mostly in the context of being held prisoner by their own perceptions of the world and of their own duties that must be completed in it. Also gud vid luv ur stuff.

Attack on Titan Season 2 got me genuinely enjoying the series and Season 3 Part 2 made me consider it one of the greatest anime of all time. As Aleczandxr has covered in his video Isayama is impeccable at making such a masterfully crafted and intricate story, effective at symbolism (as seen by the sea example) as well as using that symbolism to help mark character development (as seen by how the sea has changed in meaning for Eren). I definitely look forward to the next season of Attack on Titan, it will be one hell of a wild ride.

"To surpass monsters, you must be willing to abandon your humanity."
Eren still seems to be following what Armin told him way back then.
Too Bad Armin Didnt Learned That Lesson From Himself

I wouldn’t generalize them, I don’t think it’s fair
It’s just a lack of thinking and empathy.
Could also be the type of watchers that don’t like to over analyze things and would prefer a typical shônen protag
Thing is, Eren started as that typical MC, don’t give up, hard work and teamwork
Usually in shônen this trope works and the MC just gets stronger too
But AOT is closer to a Seinen with its realistic view of the world they live in :
There’s no answer to anything, we don’t know who the enemy truly is, even if you do your best it doesn’t mean things will turn out the way you want, sometimes we’re hopeless...

Also, until you pointed it out that they were child soldiers, that never really crossed my mind. I think it would be really cool if you could do a video on Mrs, Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, K-on or Made in Abyss.
@@alfreddrewes9362 Sorry mate but I don't take requests from comments. But thanks!
Great video
Thank you!
The scene of Eren crying, telling Levi about the sea and what Armin wants always makes me cry

I wonder how much he actually saw
It's actually quite amazing he didn't break up and lose his mind completely, I would have fallen into depression.
My theory is that at that point he had seen himself killing dozens in Marley so that's why he asked if he killed them all whether or not he'd be free. He didn't fully understand the enemy at this point, but he knew they were there and that he'd kill them.
@@maxhydekyle2425 that's a fair theory
Chapter 120 and 130 shows you what he saw.
Spoiler chapter 133
I agree with Reiner's perspective, Eren wants them to stop him ; since he knows the future and we don't, and seeing how he feels in chapter 131, I can say he doesn't want to be alive by the end of this and he also wishes for peace.
I can't believe how much I've grown to love this story. Favourite manga.

As much as I love MHA, Eren's realization here is far more soul crushing than Endeavor's.
"Nothing less than evil will be capable of ending the evil of this cycle of misery."

Oh man just you wait 😁
My favorite thing about Eren is how he goes from a Shounen MC to a Seinin MC
I just wish Eren had got his memories after they reached the sea so that he could have enjoyed it for at least a little bit

Thanks so much!
There was so much weight in that last moment of the season, and you video essay put words to it. Thank you

(Manga spoilers)
Remember, at the early stage of the series, Eren, Sasha, and some other recruits were standing at the top of the Wall.
Cheers

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind
"nothing less than evil will be capable of ending the evil of this cycle of misery" is the equivalent of "you have to fight fire with fire".
Floch, upon dragging the near-death body of Erwin to Levi:
"I thought to myself that he ought to taste more of this hell... The only one who can lay waste to the titans is a devil!"
At this point, I assumed they would be pragmatic and go with the approach you yourself suppose that Eren will adopt in the future war.
Levi, when choosing between Armin and Erwin:
"Can you forgive him. He had no choice but to become a demon. We're the ones who forced him to do it."
They could only get as far as they did through Erwin's decisions to sacrifice the many scouts before (awesome frame of erwin on his fallen comrades).
Yet in the end, Levi yields to his better judgement and opts to wage humanity on the shoulders of Armin and hence 'hope'. As an anime-only, I'm sure there will be more bloodshed and tears, but I hope, if peace is eventually achieved at the end of the series, that it is done based on the principles that define Armin.

just like the characters, we all have our walls, oceans and horizons... life, however, is not so generous and a significant number of us never get the chance to see past those walls... to reach our oceans... and make way towards our horizons... the handful that do see success, at least in my observation, are completely changed by their journeys... they are no longer wide-eyed and idealistic... in their own ways, they transformed, grew, improved and learned... one way or another, they became part of the same oceans and horizons they saw back when they were gazing from the walls...

I haven't read the manga yet, but seeing how season 3 ended, I'm really looking forward to the character development Eren will receive in season 4. Eren might have taken Armin’s dream more literal, as his goal is liberating themselves from oppression, freeing them from dangers and ending conflict forever.
Eren:""If violence does not help - need more violence"
His Friends: no, thanks
When you after reading chapter 121 realise that eren meant something else when they got to the sea and he said it's just like he saw in his dad's memories
Coming back to this after watching what we have of season 4 so far (the most recent episode as of me posting this being episode 66: Assault), hits different. Eren has completely steeled himself for this fight like you said. You can see through his actions in the most recent episodes that he is acting solely based on his duty of killing his enemies, to achieve freedom. He obviously seemed like your typical, angry anime protagonist in the beginning, but it’s this sort of change that makes him one of my favorites.
You and soul make the best anime/ manga analysis videos great job as always .
Edit: that kruger quote at the ending gave me chills .
Thanks!
Great video, incredibly well written
Been watching this every day for motivation
Excellent work, as always!!! When I watch season 3 I caught a glimpse of everything you have talked about, but the deep way you explore those ideas always catch my whole attention. I really appreciate you took in consideration the anime-only viewers and I found your predictions at the end quite interesting wheter they turn to be more or less accurate! I enjoy your videos so much that it makes me consider watching every anime you talk about only to be able to follow up your thoughts. I would like to create content like you do, in such a clear and appealing way. Even more, I hope you keep producing such well done analyzes!
Thanks very much!
Gotta love that Witcher 3 music.
Eren vaguely reminds me of Captain Ahab, mostly in the context of being held prisoner by their own perceptions of the world and of their own duties that must be completed in it. Also gud vid luv ur stuff.
Any chance you would make an Aleczandxr style vid on Ahab?
@@misters6749 nope, but if you haven't heard of him already, Plagueofgripes made a villains video that summarizes him very well
@@DripDrakenguard Actually I am quite familiar with Plague from the Dragonball Videos + that Naruto video.
Imma look for that video.
Do you know the title of it or it named something obvious like Moby Dick analysis?
Yay! I was waiting for you to do an Attack on Titan analysis video, on account of you praising it on Twitter and all.
Love it! Can't wait to see how the series wraps up
This story is something beyond comprehension for these Young Warriors & Soldiers.......until they are not
Bruh wtf man, you got me in tears :'\
Its a shame that this video didn't do so well because I think it is really good.
It was demonetized so UA-cam didn’t spread it around. Kinda too bad, but it’s not a big deal. Thanks!
Something I just noticed is that if you pause and look closely at reiner and Berthold's faces when they are shifting to titan forms, you can see the face of their titan forms for a split second, showing the duality they had to take on for their country and their families
After guts and lelouch , in S4 We'll see another legend in all animes :
Eren Yeager ...
As a student graduating under covid this summer, the opening statement of this video really resonated with me.
Attack on Titan is number 4 on my greatest anime of all time list. But when the story finally finishes, its gonna be number 3.
What's your top 3 now?
@@feshin6959 Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, and Dragon Ball. I made a video about my favorite anime if you want to check it out ua-cam.com/video/Vq7LDlwctpQ/v-deo.html
I recommend you to read BERSERK then
@@GILGAMESH069 it's on my list to read
it may even go higher
Fantastic video. You never fail to provide.
Thank you!
Every single freaking upload makes my brain evolve, like who can just casually think on this level💀🧠

I'm a simple man, i see aleczandxr i click.
This is such a beautiful video essay. My only regret is not watching it right when it came out.
Thank you!
it is funny how AOT helps in understanding modern politics
Attack on Titan Season 2 got me genuinely enjoying the series and Season 3 Part 2 made me consider it one of the greatest anime of all time. As Aleczandxr has covered in his video Isayama is impeccable at making such a masterfully crafted and intricate story, effective at symbolism (as seen by the sea example) as well as using that symbolism to help mark character development (as seen by how the sea has changed in meaning for Eren). I definitely look forward to the next season of Attack on Titan, it will be one hell of a wild ride.
Beach episodes in other anime: "Let's make this fun and fill it with fan service!"
Aot: "lmao depression go brrrr"
Rest In Peace grandpa kitchen
