I had a heater core replace in my 97 Dodge Dakota. The brake light switch wire was broke. And the heater box is not put back together properly. $400 job. I'm watching your video because now I must take everything apart and make everything right. Yours was the best video so far.
I just want to tell you that the way you break down the steps as you do them is just fantastic and awesome 👍. I'm a single female working on my 99 Dakota Sport V8-315 manual 4wd and although the issues were different getting to the place was so much less frustrating because of knowing what you said, especially in this video. My turn signals will not turn on and my heater isn't getting hot. So I'm driving in behind the dash now. Thank You
Awesome 👍, I had to replace my heater core on my last RT about ten years ago, ugh what a job. Dodge service told me when it was originally installed, they tie a rope around the heater core and build the truck around it! Lol😄
Not as bad as i thought it would be to remove. I have to remove mine from a 99 to do the heater core and repair the blend door. Sucks only having air coming out the defroster. Nice job.👍👍
This is awesome. Now the custom work begins, welding or cutting/bolting new brackets for placement, fitting and measuring, measuring and fitting. After this you could engineer and new truck concept but then again this is going to be a prototype itself. Take notes, measurements :) You got this John
Good info ! i need to take my dash off as well. Need 'plug' in 4 wheel drive switch !.....i got lucky getting the switch ( discontinued by Mopar)..found one at Wreckers yard !
My 2002 dodge truck needs a replacement 4 wheel drive switch.....your dash looks abit different to mine ( not in a big way) I hope i can get to the broken switch and just plug that in?
Your Dakota projects are awesome & inspiring.. I really love the Viper Eng.Swap.. My 2003 Dakota [3.9] was approaching its 20th Birthday, so I just started to dump a lot of money into it. I want to do the big engine swap, but not yet (too much$) I was rebuilding the front suspension (Brakes, hubs, tie rods, drag links..) and not even 24hrs later, Meth heads stole my Dakota, then recked it (all rear end damage) fried the ECM.. thrashed the once immaculate interior ...8 months later Im removing the dashboard to find the "Chrysler Collision Detection module" WTF?
I have a 93 dodge dakota sport.. currently rebuilding the whole truck and removing my dash also having trouble removing the harness from my steering column..would you have any suggestions??
I've had the dash out of my '01 dakota a few times. Looking at your pre-facelift dash, it's very similar. You could have left most of the stuff on it that you removed. Dodge made it really simple by having the bottom portioned "hinged" on the lower bolts. All you really have to disconnect in terms of wiring are the grounds, antenna, and the large connector up by the brake booster. In your case, that large connector at the base of the windshield is the blower motor resistor And yes, to replace the heater core you must completely remove the dash and pull out the entire heater box. The top half comes off the box with like 30 screws or whatever. Download the factory service manual and take a look at how easy some of this stuff can be.
I was thinking the same thing. You know they don’t spent that much time on the assembly line installing a dash. It’s pretty much one piece when it goes in and just some screws and some connections, maybe snap the trim on. They don’t take hours to install it so it shouldn’t take hours to remove it.
I'm loving your videos my 2004 dakota needs a heater core I'm told. It blows an antifreeze smell into the cab whenever heat or defrost is turned on, fogs the windshield and chokes us to death. I'm hoping I can do this myself but boy this looks like a lot. Is that whole giant piece the heater core? If so how is it you said you may not need to take the whole dash apart but just swing a part out if place? I'll watch again, thanks so much. Sorry I only know the basics of auto repair but can't afford the labor to replace this core.
I've got occasional rat crap in my 2000 dakota that I drive daily. I don't the time or ability to take the dash out. Any idea where they could be getting in from under the hood?
Sick i might have to do this to replace my heater core soon. this was helpful thanks jon. Also look for a Team BMS getting tagged in a insta post with my truck soon.
Not here to follow the build, but man your video was a life saver, as I have a 98 and need to replace the blower motor resistor block (the thing the giant connector connects to at 8:11). Thank you
Hi! My God Son, I see your memory is still sharp as a tack! Was here to see how you got the point where one could slide in a new radio. My burning question is, why doesn't the Air Bag deploy when you mess with or remove or plug back in that switch nearby? Is it because you have the battery disconnected or because your truck actually needs to hit something at 5 miles per hour (or me bumping into it with my fat asse)? Your Thoughts please.
Whoa lol down to the bones eh 😉 looking good.... at least it's a clean slate👍 i hope she goes in without to much modification 🤞 shit cant be that easy tho lol Id crap if it did 😁
I'm always surprised at how many clips and such actually hold the dash together, and some main screws to hold it in. Doesn't make it any easier to take out unfortunately, especially when you've got Hay all up in your space 🤣 (if you actually found a fossilized rodent, I would have died). Looking forward to seeing the hellcat engine in her new home!
How can Chrysler do this to consumers and sleep at night? Message to Chrysler and other manufacturers: heater cores break down and need replacing. Design them to be easily accessible.
It isn't just Chrysler, all auto manufacturers do the same type of poor engineering. In 45 years of doing auto repair I have seen most of it. Sometimes after encountering a particular model you may find a cheat or two. Most you just have to drudge through.
I think this video is great. I can't help asking what stupid engineer designed the truck putting someone through all this to replace a heater core. Perhaps this engineering never heard of a heater core not working properly or may be they figured the truck should be scrapped for a new one when the heater stopped working. This design is so stupid that I can't find the right words to describe it.

@ 7:58 in the video that was the calling card of rodents. You don't have to be on a farm. What tool did you use to disconnect the gear selector clip ? I was told It's easy to break. I have a 99 Ram 2500 I've been working on removing to repair.

One of the best videos I've seen on removing the dash in a Dakota. I looked around but couldn't find what year your Dakota is...?
Thanks Nathan! 99
Oh man, this project is certainly the biggest and most exciting Dakota project. Keep strong ^^
I am so impressed with this build! Keep up the great work!
This video was a good one. Straight to the point and not too much talking. 👍
Haven’t been around in a long time

Is there a video of the install of the new dash?
I know this is an old video but on your Dodge Dakota did you have water intrusion when it rained ?

I can’t either I want to see them! I wanna know do you have to have the motor to have the dash in your car 🤔
@@Twinshiesty22I hope not. Just would be hard to figure out for the gauges to read correctly. Time and wiring diagram wouldn’t the trick.
awesome progress....i see some dakota parts going for sale lol....
Yeah once everything is finalized and my idea with the new dash works there will definitely be a sale lol
Can you post the details for the dash and seats that you put in?

How do you bypass the factory amp?
