    Hey Erin! Can't even begin to tell you how incredibly EASY your instructions are to follow (even though, and I confess, I watched twice before I "figured out" that I had to use the scroll bar slider to navigate the the landing page). I don't exactly know how it was that my Google search for help ended up on your tutorial, but I sure am glad I found it!

    This is terrifically helpful. I had no idea how to do this, and it was a no-nonsense way to get links into my document at first attempt!
    I also discovered that in order to go to the page you want to link to, you can type in the page number and press enter, rather than scrolling down, and the target will appear. You can then click "Set Link" and continue as usual.

    Dear Erin, thanks for the tutorial. I have a question, I would like to create link to headings, but having "inherit zoom" activated so keeping the document at the zoom stage that the reader is currently on. I realize that you can either link to a location as you show it, which will, however, also save the zoom stage that you were on when creating the link. This can be potentially annoying to readers if they read the document e.g. on a small laptop or a big screen, and when clicking on a link the zoom stage is always changing to the one that you had when creating the link. I figured that the link can be also set to "inherit zoom", but then what happens is that the link is no more pointing to the text where you set it, but links to the top of the page, which could also be annoying if your headings are at the lower part of the page, and when zoomed in you don't even see the heading. I would be glad if you know a way to overcome this issue! Thanks a lot! Linda

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  2 роки тому

      Hello, Linda. That is a very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don't have a workable solution. The behavior you describe (going to the top of the page rather than a page view) while in Inherit Zoom seems to be a known issue. Fingers crossed, it will be corrected in future software updates. I wish you all the best with your PDF project!

    • @geoffking1434
      @geoffking1434 2 роки тому

      Hi Linda, great to see I am not the only person having the exact issue you've mentioned before. It seems so odd that Adobe do not appear to have a way around this. I have been scouring the internet for days now trying to find a solution It's frustrating that for some reason when using "inherit zoom' it takes you to the top of the page rather than to a specific jump point within that page. Really odd that there does not seem to be a work around for this. I have also tried the Adobe community website with not much luck. If I manage to find a solution I'll keep you posted.

    I was wondering if you can take a one page pdf document and create a kind of "path" for items that need to be filled out based on the type of action taking place. Can you click on a button, let's say "New Hire" and have all the field names of the document that need populated to appear as highlighted field names so people know what information areas need populated on the document?

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  2 роки тому

      Thank you for watching! I have a separate tutorial showing how to create a button to a specific place in your PDF: ua-cam.com/video/SrPaJ16-hlk/v-deo.html. You could have that button lead to a form specifically for new hires. (However, it won't highlight specific fields.) I wish you all the best!

    Thanks, Erin. I'm wondering if there is a way to do the same, but instead of linking to a part of the document, linking to an attached file. Every time I try to do it, it asks me to select a file from my pc, and links to it, but that's not what I want. I want it to link an attached one, since it is actually part of the document itself, and will be there wherever I open this document.
    Thank you!

    Erin, thanks for that tutorial. Do you know of a way to have the text and link both joined/grouped together so that as I mode things around the page, they move together ? Right now I have to realign them on every small adjustment in text placement....

      Thank you for watching my video. When I move anchor text in my version of Adobe Adobe Pro, the links do move with anchor text. However, I don't think there is a way to automatically move the internal link destinations because PDF internal links attach to page locations rather than text. I'm really sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

    Thank you. I have a series of documents (huge brief) of separate pdfs. The documents are not publicly accessible (i.e. not on the web) so linking to a website isn't an option. Is there a way to do what this tutorial does to non-publicly accessible documents?

      Thank you for watching my video! If you want to link between your PDFs, you can choose "Open a file" in the Link Action section of the Create Link dialog box. Best of luck!

    Hi Erin, I followed the instructions and it seemed to work fine. Thanks. Unfortunately, I want to upload the document to my website, but when I did that, the internal link seemed to take reader to wrong place in the document. It went to the correct page, but not to the right place on the page. Also, the underline wasn't visible once the document had been uploaded. But that's not too serious, I can work around that problem I think. Do you have any suggestions or comments? Maybe I'm trying to do something that's not possible?

      Thank you so much for watching! Acrobat's behaviors work best within the Adobe environment, so I'm afraid I can't identify what is causing that unfortunate issue once your PDF is uploaded to your website. Is it possible to just link to the PDF in cloud storage from the website? I wish you all the best in finding a solution!

    Hello, Erin, I have an excel file with different tabs. I am going to PDF the whole book. I will have a table of contents as well. One tab will be a summary tab and then the other tab would be the detail for the summary tab. I want to link the Summary tab to the detail. It there a way to link internally.
    Thank you

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  3 роки тому

      Thank you for watching! If you have both tabs open, you can follow the normal process to create the link as shown in this tutorial. However, when the Set Page View dialog box appears, switch to the other tab before setting the link. Please note that this can create awkward situations with the original tab closing, though. A better option may be to combine all the files into one PDF and use bookmarks instead of links or create a portfolio. I have tutorials on bookmarks (ua-cam.com/video/OkmZxW2Bdws/v-deo.html), combing files (ua-cam.com/video/5c2gSgBrRj0/v-deo.html) and portfolios (ua-cam.com/video/5c2gSgBrRj0/v-deo.html). Best of luck!

    Can you create a FOOTER link back to the table of contents? Thanks!

    • @erinwrightwriting
      @erinwrightwriting  2 роки тому

      That is a great question! Acrobat doesn't offer a way to add a traditional link that will be duplicated on every page footer. However, you can position a page view button in the footer area (and format it to look like a regular link) and then duplicate it across all pages. I have an older tutorial on page view buttons that you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/SrPaJ16-hlk/v-deo.html. Thank you for watching!

    Hi Erin, thanks for the informative video. The links work great, and has sorted out an eBook issue I was having. One question, when I click on the link I created to take me to another page, the pdf page size drops down to 51%. Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

      Hello, Steve. Thank you for watching my video. It sounds like you may be having a problem with your zoom. To adjust it, right-click the link > Edit Link > Actions > Edit > and then change the option in the Zoom menu to the choice you think will be most appropriate for your readers. Best of luck!

    Thanks Erin...I am trying to create Hyperlinks in PDF where they toggle from one part of the document and back again For example I am in the TOC and I click hyperlink Figure 4, once I click the verbiage Figure 4 which is a hyperlink it takes me to Figure 4. Once I have finished looking at Figure 4 I click the verbiage Figure 4 which is also a hyperlink and it takes me back to TOC where I see the original Figure 4 I dont know what this is called but I have a document and I need to create those hperlinks that toggle

      Hi, Greta. Thank you for watching my video! I haven't used the technique you mention so I'm afraid I can't offer any advice, but I think you might be looking for action buttons, which can look like links. If you google "toggle buttons in PDFs" quite a bit of info pops up. I'm going to do some research myself because this seems like a very useful technique. Best of luck!
