The Nothing Phone 2 has no shortage of personality, but some felt it a bit underwhelming upon its release. Now, one month later, has it improved after some updates? Let's find out.

Been using this phone for a week now and i'm still finding new features on this phone. For me this phone is great :)
Can you post some photo and video samples via a Google photos album?
How about the camera now?
It is not 8 gen 1... Its actually a 8+ gen 1 soc phone🤘
Yup! I misspoke, my bad.
There is a huge difference in two
@@MarkSpurrellbig difference pinned comment would be appreciated 🙏
Actually both are same ... both has same specs ..its just the fact that the 8 gen 1 is of Samsung's and 8+gen 1 is of TSMC s
Done! Same chip, but the plus model has higher clock speeds and better efficiency according to XDA.@@walid6329
*Slight correction:* The Nothing Phone 2 has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, not the regular 8 Gen 1. They are fundamentally the same chip, but the Plus version has faster clock speeds and better efficiency.
Source: XDA-Developers.
"They are fundamentally the same chip".
Everything but. They really are different chips. The 8 gen 1 is made by Samsung, the 8+ gen 1 by TSMC. Big difference in performance and huge difference in thermals and efficiency.
@MarkSpurrell Glad you mentioned about Canadian pricing. Almost anything we buy here in Canada has a bump in price when compared to US pricing after conversion which doesn't make any sense.
Nah man they're not the same. 8+ gen 1 is based on TSMC 4nm, making it much more efficient than the 8 gen 1. 8 gen 1 made by Samsung was plagued with heating and battery drain issues.
I feel like there's always a reason for someone to be mad about a phone. Sometimes justifiable, but the 8 + Gen 1 and design refinements make sense and are a great addition. Loving the video, Mark!
The pricing issue is the same in Europe. Officially it starts at 649€ (~706USD) for the 8/128GB version but that is not available anywhere. So you have to go with the 8/256GB model, which is 699€ (~760USD). Maybe I'll buy it when it's around 600€ but for now I'm sticking with my trusted Phone 1.
If you're a student, you can get 70€ discount at Unidays. That's why I decided to buy it anyways.
I remember i bought OnePlus 8 pro a few years back and it cost me whooping cad1600 whereas it was around USD 800.
I'd pay for a Nothing Phone if it had a dedicated telephoto zoom lens.
Good video ... like the simplicity
In India the pricing is lower. It's 45000 inr which translates to 541 dollars. Which is surprising coz most phones like Apple or Samsung are cheaper in us than in India.
Still every Indian youtuber says its very expensive it should have been 40k
@@pirateluffy01 Coz they are comparing with chinese brands who give better specs in lower prices. Also because of the brand is new. If you compare with one plus 11r. Both have similar specs but nothing offer some better qualities so the 5k rs more is good for the bonus things you get.
I noticed that, India actually got a banger deal on these phones. Carl Pei strategically priced it slightly lower I think because of the immense population.
@@pirateluffy01That's precisely why I postponed my purchase for the festive season discounts. 😄 TBH the 256GB version should have been launched at 45k.
i got it for 32k inr in flipkart sale after exchanging samsung m31.
Thank you for highlighting the video issues! That's something a lot of reviewers skip, but it matters because you can tell if an OEM cares enough to optimize the stuff that you can do with your phone. Stuttery video recording on Android (especially while panning) is one of those things that you don't think about up until you use it, and then the frustration sets in!
Hey mark we need more reviews . 🙏🙏
I love the design it definitely has its on loom
I got this phone today and i found the software boring. Speakers are OK, cameras need a lot of optimisation. Also, Nothing must introduce more customisations. Also, paying extra for the charger sucks. It takes 3-4 seconds for the selfie photo to be processed and viewed in the google photos app. Oh and speaking about the photos app, not having a default offline gallery app is also a bummer for me :/
How about the camera now?
How's the camera now after updates?
Hey Mark, can you share the wallpapers you're using in the video?
6:30 I want this phone, too! No wonder they didn't show any video stabilized footage. It is quite horrendous with the blurry bits.
wooow yeah the video stabilisation looks really bad whatt
If you look past the glyphs. It's really a solid phone. It checks all the boxes.
it's been pretty good after all that update😊
I don't get why people are mad about using last year flagship chipset for the price it's giving, it were to use the latest, it would be a higher price as Samsung and the difference is not that big, unless you're a mobile gamer who plays Genshin all day.
Some people keep comparing the NP2 to cheaper phones that clearly left out the "good software" department, which baffles me.
right! the chipset is still more than good enough to do what anyone wants and will still be powerful 3 years from now.
Chipset is good, but price is not, camera's are bad in low light, battery doesnt compare to flagships, why is this phone priced at a flagship phone cost? iphone is £799, galaxy is £799, this is £629 for a much worse experience, worse battery, worse performance, worse screen, worse support, all the big features of this phone are essentially gimmicks, nobody cares about the glyth, even after your first month with this phone you also won't care about it, so were is the value? you can buy £400 phone with this same chipset and same poor choices, but without the poor price. Software is extreemely boring as well, you are still boned by having to buy a charger like all flagships, no default offline gallery app, takes like 5 seconds for even a selfie to be processed in the photos app, speakers are meh, video stabilization is absolutely terrible, and i mean... Worse than some £200 phones.
The thing with the US price is that taxes are NOT included. they change depending on the state you live in. While in Europe and Canada (I believe), the VAT is included in the price.
Nope, tax is not included in Canada either. I'd pay $1,070 CAD after taxes for the base model.
@@MarkSpurrell oh shit well that doesn't look like a good deal all of a sudden...
Yeah. As much as I love the design, it's not a great deal for people outside of the US/India right now.
Would have loved to see indoor night photos with glyph lighting. Is It better than the standard LED that other phones have when it comes to lighting up the scene?
It is a softer light, however the CRI of the LED's aren't the best, so using the glyphs will sometimes give a greenish tint to some photos that have to be edited out. It is still better than the standard LED torch/flashlight though in terms of softness.
@@MarkSpurrell thanks for the reply! :)
No telephoto lens, no IP68 rating, no esim support , is it a good buy?
Customer service doesn't respond back to emails.. they have. Idea how to troubleshoot this phone , neither does the tech department.. they just say "do you wanna return the phone"?.. or exchange.. which by the way.. they make you send the phone back first before they send you a new one. Unlike other companies who do the opposite and give you a window to return it or your charges for the full price for the replacement.. company has no idea how to fix this phone
I didnt use the stock camera app for the np2, I am using AGC Gcam for NP2 with supporting file, and it is better than stock specially on lowlight setting.
What version of GCam are you on? Does it support the wide angle lens and video?
@@akshat2288 agc 8.8_v5.1 + ironheart v2 xml
yes it is supported. takes shots way 10x better than stock.
As many has commented already, the pricing is much worse in Europe. I really don't get why it's so much more here. I wanted to switch from my OP 10 Pro to this but that price just ruins it.
4:01 it's fine in my opinion because instead of gathering chargers from all phones maybe you can just buy a 100W or 67W PD charger and charge all your devices with it. It's a one time investment
Same here in Europe :/ the 599 dollars would amount to 549 Euros but its priced at 649 Euros so equal zo about 710 dollars. I feel at 100 Euros less it would be a way better deal especially considering the phone 1 is about 350 here
Unfortunate pricing.
It's called VAT tax...
S33 much better and same price
@@RodolphosTechchannel what is s33 ?
@@jakob9435Samsung, he's from the future
This phone looks really cool and it is certainly a breath of fresh air in a smartphone world that’s been gettin’ a little boring in the past two/three years. Regardless the full price seems to much considering camera quality and older chipset
When's the Z Flip 5 review dropping?
Would you buy & use this phone instead of an S23 Plus?? 🤔
you said 'Nothing phone 2 is a fun little phone with a lot of personality' 😄I think its a big phone
Can you check if the LTPO works cause when i enabled show FPS the screen stayed at 120hz even on AOD. If not please make a video on it
That happens with every phone when using that setting in developer mode afaik. I've tested that with numerous phones and the lowest I've seen it go is 60fps. It's not accurate.
@@MarkSpurrell someone said that it does go to 1hz on full brightness and it really do go to 1hz i just checked so afaik it's working fine
@@prateek1208 I heard that it goes to 10 or 1hz when the brightness is set to more than 60%.
I had to return mine after 3 days. Phone wouldn't receive notifications. Was disappointed as I really like the phone.
What's on my phone 2023 video???? btw great video brother🔥. Love from India 😊😁
It's even more insane on this side of the atlantic. 699 euros, which translates to 1029 Canadian, or 759 USD
Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone 1 can be obtained for around 350. So the 2 is twice as expansive, and I just don't think it's worth it.
Brutal!
$499 max
BUT europe pice is with VAT, while the US price is without ;)
Moto Edge 30 Ultra or NP2?
for me the pictures being good but not incredible is all that matters to me
i want a phone that takes pretty good pictures that i can snap real quick when i just want a nice photo of something that i saw
for the moments i really wanna capture in great detail i have a dlsr camera im learning to use
Take samsung s 23 ultra for camera but it's too costly dude
pixel 7 or 8 would be good for you
For us Canadians. Its makes zeeo sense to shell out $900 bucks.
The tax or is it inflated shipping costs ?
Now i see why folks lean on pixel 8 or iphone 15 instead as they know theyre paying premium for premium
I've seen other videos footage captures that look pretty good, I don't know what to believe! 😕
It depends on the lighting. Nothing phone 2 has trouble capturing videos, where there is a lot of light right next to a place that’s dimly lit but other than that it’s pretty good.
How is the speaker is it terrible
People complaining about the chip in the nothing phone 2 clearly have absolutely no idea! They have probably been watching too many UA-cam reviews. The chip is older than the latest Snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip. Yes on paper it gets lower benchmark scores. But what people don't realise is that bench scores at flagship levels are all a gimmick! Look at apples A bionic chip. It absolutely smashes all android chips. Yet android phones are faster , smoother and way more innovative than iPhone in every day to day activities. Which is what counts. Not benchmarks!! Folks the chip in this phone is absolutely way way way way way more than handling anything now and for the next few years. Other than demanding games there is no software that will remotely bring on a sweat on this chip. People stop paying attention to benchmarks!!!!! The founder of nothing is the brains behind OnePlus. They are the fastest, smoothest phones you can buy. He brought most of his coding team with him. I guarantee you that the nothing phone is taking off from where the OnePlus left off. I'm considering trading my s23 ultra in for the nothing phone 2. I love the speed, the flat screen, and the regular updates.
I think it is ovwrly hyped and the glyph interface has lost its shine (pun intended) after 1 year.
Pricing is not at all fair and I'd at least rather go for S23 on sale or Pixel 7 or OP 11R
funny story
even tho a lot of my friends have the latest iphone and Ultra samsung phones, my nothing phone 1 used to take better photos
later i realised that its cuz i am good at taking photos and its not the phone
although now upgraded to the phone 2 and now it actually takes good photos (shadows a little daker than i would prefer tho)
Agreed, photography is all down to lighting, composition and creativeness. Lots of people want what they think is the best camera , but they've no idea how to take a photo 😁
how about smart bird feeder?
Do a tech rewind of Galaxy Note 10 Plus
Indian units have iphone level stabilization....
Im not sure what problem in your unit
I would argue the 8+ Gen 1 puts it a step above the S22+ because of the superior power efficiency compared to the regular 8 Gen 1. It's not quite an 8 Gen 2, but I don't think you're losing much by getting the 8+ Gen 1 versus this years 8 Gen 2.
Nothing Phone 2 is a great phone if you can get it on sale.
I think I found out the reason the Canadian price seems so high, it's because they included the tax in the price
No. They don't.
You're probably the only reviewer who chose the stock android skin over Nothing skin.
Not really a fan of the nothing skin tbh
@@MarkSpurrell that's a first
But it's cool anyways.
It’s “Bose Revolve ll “ not ‘ Resolve ‘
What type of display it has LTPO OLED display or LTPO AMOLED display, and if it is a LTPO OLED display then why it's display specifications on amazon says LTPO AMOLED why???
Amoled is a OLED display made by Samsung specific. There's no other difference.
@@rahulofficial2855 thankyou so much ❤️
Overclock 🔥😎
Everything is good except for the selfie camera processing nothing needs to work a lot on camera processing
The camer was just holding me to not getting this phone .
Unfortunately nothing phone didnt play it correctly.
Soundcore X600 is genuinely one of the best small speakers I have ever used. It's amazing.
I would not buy this at full price, I thinks its just about gimmicks bout this phone, as a minimalist guy, I wouldn't want to attract attention with lights on my phone when there are notifications lol
NB! NO AUDIO PHONE! NOTHING ! :-) NB! wrong info in the video: 2:40 8+ gen 1 !
how is a fresh new "different" design a gimmick?? 🤷🏻♀️
With all the annoyances you've stated in this video. It's a hard pass for me.
Wldve bought if not for the glyphs
The glyphs are definitely a gimmick. Just for something to make the phone stand out. But it's still a solid phone. Good software, good battery life and a pretty good camera. I think it's $100 too expensive tho.
Love everything about the phone except the absolute trash speaker and over processed camera
you should get rid of this NSFW comments . there are a lot under age kids watches and reads comments
I do my best to remove them when I see them, but they are bots unfortunately and there are thousands of them.
@@MarkSpurrell I hope they stop doing this
me and everyone i know phone put phones down on its back like a normal person so idk why these gliff light even exist im not gonna put the other and give a Chance for display to get scrached 😂😂 also all these things can be done on AOD display so what even is the point of the dumb LEDs?? even sony tried these and stopped after S Series
6:30 bro if thats 60FPS GT 1030 can run Cyberpunk at 60Fps 😂😂
Camera is Shakey and video stabilization is unfortunately awful
👍
Ip54 is what bug me.
im pretty sure its ip68 but they aren't going to pay to have the certification done
@Jthall1990 really? If that's true then imo it's a near perfect phone!
@@angycucumber4319 I'm just assuming because that's what old OnePlus use to do. With Carl running nothing. It's probably safe to say he's still doing the same thing.
Good for 400$. But not for 700$
Camera and speakers suck, haptics are avg.
In india i got for $ 450
Its clearly overpriced. Carl wants to take money from us equal to an iPhone but he is not giving good features. The phone has a poor camera, very low speaker sound and is not waterproof. An iPhone or even a Pixel 7a has a much better camera. This phone is just not worth the money.
Go buy iPhone or pixel 😅😬😬Don't whine here
And iPhone is double the price lmao
lol how’s it overpriced from a tech start up? especially when they’re selling so low it’s barely profitable? i like the fact he does what i’ve always said kill the droid line , it’s so into new specs news specs that the phones are never perfect and everything else lacks. put all the new shit in and battery problems and bugs. instead of like apple slow modulation. you never see apple first with a feature sure let android fool around with it for a 5 years when we intergrate it , it’ll be flawless and a better experience
Have you even tried the phone yourself? You can’t judge stuff without even using it.
I agree that the pixel 7a has better cameras but speakers are twice as loud and much richer on the nothing phone 2
I still can't believe their CEO literally said the Pen in Samsung Phones [Ultra's] is just a gimmick, and yet calls the biggest gimmick in the smartphone industry to be a feature with God knows how much functionality and use and bla bla bla.
Nothing Phones look fugly af. Absolutely adore my black Pixel 7 Pro and S22 Ultra [Burgundy is just pure love]. Pixel 7 Pro is the most beautiful phone ever, after iPhone 4S, 5S, 6s Plus, 7 Plus & Samsung S7 Edge. IMO.
Don't get me wrong. I'm happy there's more competition in the market, and I'm no hater. Just expressed my opinions. And yes, I'm in love with Nothing OS 2.0. Looks damn better than OneUI ,that's for sure. A tie with Google I'd say.
I agree with you. Nothing phone is just a hype and they did not work on camera. Pixel , iphone and samsung has better cameras.
And displays dimming in Samsung and Pixel 7 pro are 4 times worse, 10% nothing vs 40% pulsation. OS is better in Nothings. You win some you lose some. No perfect phone, unfortunately.
Speakers are rubbish! At least give an honest review
